How to Photograph Couples With Height Difference

So far I've covered the basics of posing anyone. But, when it comes to photographing a couple that is noticeably different height-wise, you can end up with some images that accidentally accentuate this fact. Also, it can affect the overall composition.
This video will give you my tricks, that I've developed over the last 20 years as a pro photographer. This ensures that the couple looks great, your composition looks great, and, when you look at the image you aren't distracted by gaping holes left by a height difference.
Posing is one of the main things I think photographers forget to learn about and I'm here to help. Enjoy!

Awesome and very helpful content, as always. I just want to point out that there is some kind of mix up during the editing since parts of the video are repeated midway through and sometimes the wrong photo is shown.

I understand you shoot with F4. Distancing the models differently to the sensor pulls one of them out of focus. This brougt me to a genereal question: How do you set focus (and aperture) for Couples or Groups? I'd rather not comebine two shots with different focus in post. On the other hand "I do like sharp objects". Thanks for all the great advisory.

Thank you for these fantastic videos. I hope you will keep them coming. It's so easy to implement these techniques and the excellent results are repeatable. Its a confidence booster and I have gotten many compliments. Also, I've found, as you've said, men actually appreciate posing guidance. It creates a more balanced situation when its not only the female being posed.

Very useful advices. I have done people and portrait photography in the past and am still learning a lot. Sometimes, I found it a bit challenging photographing plus size people. Often times i noticed that they were not happy how they see themselves. Do you have any advice on how to do that in a way that they see themselves as good looking in their own body?

I’ve read that 5’4 is actually the average height for a woman. At least in North America I think it is. I would never call a 5’5 woman short.
You would. 5'5 is a fixed length but short has no set length. When we say something is short, it is always in comparison to something else. So if you are comparing a 5'5 woman to the average height of women in North America, you'd never call her short. If you see that see same woman playing on a professional basketball team, then when you're comparing her to her teammates, odds are, she'll seem short to you.

@@Smithpolly yeah but that’s not what people do. You base it on what’s average. Of course you wouldn’t compare her to a female basketball team. You compare them with all other people, not a select group. That’s why I say 5’5 isn’t “short” for a woman. 🤨

If there's a catwalk where all the models are 6' and the 5'5 designer comes out for applause at the end of the show with the models standing behind her , i don't people think : "She looks about the average size of a woman in North America." They think : "She's very short" because they're comparing her to models standing behind her.

I don't know what I'm doing here. I'm single, I hate being photographed and I never take pictures. The only thing I now know is how awful the wedding photograph of my brother really was and I now can judge from pictures if the photographer is a yay or nay 😂

If he's 6'0", then she has to be about 5'1" or 5'2" because even if he is wearing shoes, the height difference is more than 7 inches.

i actually think the height difference add a perspective in that u can take the to people so long as there both handsome and beautifull capture there real dimentions in there most natrtruly cool poses together how ever it is ..then take many other photos where u bring them closer with simple things like lowering one leg and bring the camera closer as long as the guys not a stiff goofy dude it is actually just more dimensions where as if the dudes the same height and u want to add a head over head shot she has to bend or he has to get on top of something so the taller male height shouldn't be much issue so long as the mans not a goof ball and the photographers not dumb!! like these to look absolutly cool with there height differance to me HES A MAN hes not a female he just need to look manly and cool in the picture most of all so depending on the clothing warn and vibes is where hed compinsate hieght bc men are sports and ruff and tuff beings much more so then woman so to give off"im alot bigger then she" can actually be very cool if shes looking somewhat "|my hero ish" in the shot but most important is how well the photagrapher can understand the energy so in some cases like this take 10000000 photos till u get the idea that u have FORGET PERFECTION ITS FOOLISH WHEN IT COME TO HUMANS TO CHASE IT BC U LOOSE ALL THE OTHER ASPECTS
