My favorite too bro. You should check out the fan edits where they edit all the deleted scenes in. Grievous killing shaak Ti at the beginning. It's stellar
The first time I seen ROTS was at the midnight showing in 2005. I was seven then. ROTS was the thing to make me a hardcore Star Wars fan. Prior I was just a fan. It was the first film I went to see like fifteen times in theaters. I fell in-love with Star Wars through that film and the Prequel Trilogy as a whole.
Execute Order 66 from start to finish with the heartbreaking Anakin's Betrayal music hits me every time. And watching the big fights, especially Obi Wan and Yoda near the end, always gives me a thrill. Wow. 2005 was an amazing time to be a star wars fan
Always loved the sunset scene before Anakin attacks the Jedi Temple, always viewed it as his last Sunset as Anakin Skywalker. Turns out that it's actually called "The Sunfall of Anakin Skywalker" so it was great when I make that connection myself.
Also it’s a direct mirroring of Binary Sunset, the context of Luke starring at the twin suns was his desire to leave and to be someone out there. In ROTS we have a man worried to lose what he loves and his desire to desperately save her with the knowledge that he will lose himself if he does. Like Lucas always said, he loves telling the same story elements and twist it enough for you to not really notice upon the first viewing.
One of my biggest issues with revenge of the sith is the final act. It feels like the movies about to be over and you still have like 20 to 30 minutes left. I feel like that time could have been used a lot better because if you just watch the movies and completely skip any of the war outside them Anakin's fall feels rather abrupt. He went from wanting to kill the chancellor to then kill the entire Jedi order in just too short time
This will always be my favorite Star wars film. The light saber fights are the best in the series hands down. The fall of Anakin and rise of Vader. Obi-Won is my favorite starcwars character and i love him in this film ( Ewan is goat )
I’m glad to see you revisiting these and still loving them. I, also, love the prequels. I will say, while I agree that the sequels were messy in storytelling and lack of vision, a lot of the series and stories that take place between the films are top tier Star Wars. Especially the animated stuff. The Clone Wars and Rebels feature some of the best Star Wars ever put to screen.
Revenge of the Sith is my all time favorite Star Wars movie, especially the 3rd act. It somehow simultaneously feels like its high stakes, but you also know whats going to happen if that makes sense. The duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan - the score accompanying, the choreography, its so incredible. I adore this movie front to back. I also cant be the only one who played the original Lego Star Wars game before ROTS came to theaters and my 9 year old dumbass brain was upset by spoilers.
There’s also The Siege of Mandalore clone wars finale that’s an extension for revenge of the Sith that came out for its 15th anniversary back in 2020 it is excellent I have an extremely rare copy of this extended version made a fan called madman’s knowledge it’s honestly my favorite version of this movie
I remember going to see ROTS when I was in middle school. The BEST thing was watching the Clone Wars miniseries from Gennedy Tartakovsky leading up to the battle over Coruscant, and the transition from the ending if that to the beginning of the movie was SO amazing. I felt like the smartest kid in the theater cause I saw how everything lead up to the moments in the movie.
I remember the huge hype surrounding the release of this film. Didn't watch it at the premiere because back then I went to cinema only with my class and our teacher unfortunately didn't take us to watch it. After almost 20 years I consider this film to be really amazing and iconic because man, the final fight with Obi-Wan and Anaking was brilliant and "It's over Anakin, I have the high ground" is just legendary line. It sums up the prequels perfectly and while I think that Anakin switching to the dark side was done too quickly because it truly happens in just one scene (Anakin kills Windu by accident and then suddenly starts serving Palpatine with no hesitation to kill even young Jedi) it's still a great film.
The non clashing was so funny until you understand you watching two people that know eachothers moves makes it more like damn they really tryna fight but sparring on accident lol
I worked at the biggest movie theatre in my city, my first job, when RotS came out. I watched this movie SOOOO MANY TIMES on the big screen. I love the original trilogy. The prequels are definitely *MY* Star Wars.
Out of the first six Star Wars films, Revenge of the Sith was the film I had seen the least often, even though I actually didn't see it in its entirety for the first time until April 11 of 2009. Being that I didn't own any of them at that point, most of the series (apart from "A New Hope") I had first seen during April of the year before that on what was then known as the "Spike Network" (Today known as Paramount Network). I would later receive a "thin-shell" DVD box set of the Prequel Trilogy alongside a standalone copy of Return of the Jedi for my 12th birthday in July of '09, though the copy of Episode III that was included didn't come with the standard second disc with Yoda on it. It instead came with a different bonus disc titled "The Story of Star Wars" even though I don't ever remember checking it out.
Dude, they aired Genndy Tartakovsky's two parter Clone Wars animated series( not to be confused by the 3D series a few years after the movie was released) before Episode 3 which introduced General Grievous showing how intimidating he is. They also showed how Palpatine was kidnapped and no Jedi was a match for Grevious. You're probably too young for that and missed it. Those animated shorts greatly enhanced our viewing pleasure for Episode 3.
I’m so fucking glad you feel the same way I do about Episode III. I saw it in theaters too and I’ve had the same love for it ever since. The music is incredible and the last act is so heartbreaking.
I remember just jow much marketing this film had. It was everywhere. My mom would take us to burger King so we could try and get the watches and toys. Truly was the last part of my childhood.
I watched in the home theater a few days ago and it’s still a goddamn masterpiece. Borderline 10/10 idgaf what anyone says. The legos, figures, music, characters, story, creativity. Incredible.
Watched the phantom menace 25 year anniversary with my grandfather last Tuesday in theaters and I bought the next two movies 😂 wow after the latest trilogy I am growing in the middle trilogy!! ❤️❤️
Totally agree on all points. This is my favorite Star Wars movie. I saw the OG trilogy when it released in theaters for the special edition and watched them a hundred times on VHS but the prequels were “my” Star Wars. I was 8 when The Phantom Menace came to theaters and seeing each movie as I grew up when they came out was an unforgettable experience. Revenge of the Sith IS Star Wars to me. It’s everything I love and it’s such a tragic, beautiful film.
Prequel trilogy better represents Lucas’s vision for Star Wars than the original trilogy even if they are not as well executed. Episode 3 is the conclusion of the backstory, so it is the best part of that story.
I remember I was 6 going on 7 and watched it a few times in cinemas and loving recreating the battle of Mustafar with lightsaber disks with friends Great times!
Ah yes the one Star Wars film i grew up with, lot's of nostalgia for this one Matty, i'm looking forward to what you have to say about it, keep being awesome man :)
I can admit that I love Ep. I & II largely due to nostalgia, but I contend Ep. III is fucking awesome unironically. Seeing it in the theatre as a kid was magical.
I loved this film on its own merits the first time I saw it, but with the added context that's been added through the various games, series, comics, and novels makes it even better. If you have time, I'd recommend reading the novelization of RotS by Matthew Stover his descriptions of the fight scenes are phenomenal. If not, you owe it to yourself to make the time to at least read the introduction. If you can read all the way through that without feeling some feels, you should probably head back to the Institute because Father needs to do some more work.
Ahh back when lightsabers actually killed people in the lore good times. In Disney star wars you can be gut shot by a lightsaber and good to go in the next scene lol
I remember at the time where I wasn’t a really big of Star Wars until about 2004 i was about 4 years old i absolutely hated star wars until they started teasing episodes 3 changed my freaking mind in 2005
The prequels had the opportunity to be the best trilogy ever. I think the weakness of ROTS is all the hard carrying it had to do for the other two movies. Episode three had to finish all these story lines and if some of it was fleshed out like showing a little more of the jedi and showing Grevious as a general and that Anakin’s turn was a little more natural. But everytime i watch this movie i hope for a happy ending even though Ive seen the movie many times.
See my mule don't like people laughing, gets the crazy idea that you're laughing at him, now if you all apologize like i know you're going to, i might convince him that you really didn't mean it (man what a classic trilogy)
Today is George Lucas's 80th birthday. It's funny that matty would post a video about Episode 3 on his birthday. The prequel trilogy will always be better than the sequel trilogy, PERIOD.
Saw phantom menace theaters and watched thru all again for millionth time rest. prequels peak, ogs more peak(my peak),(both look dated and corny but still greatness) and idgaf awakens and last jedi(3rd watchthru) not terrible, leia using force is peak cry more. Finishing now and rise after. At least we can all agree better than harry potter(slightly) lol
I like phantom menace the most of all the prequels. A more consistent film with a vision not subconsciously influenced by the backlash of the previous films. Just unfiltered creativity and innocence. Not to mention it was shot on actual 35mm film that matches with the originals and ultimately holds more detail
Did I miss something or did you actually just completely leave put talking about anakin and obiwans final scene where he screams I hate you and that whole dialogue? That's a sin
i can't stand the battle droid voices the pregnant dream and a lot of the cringe dialogue so I like 2 and 1 more. A fan edit that mutes the battle droids, reduce some of the bad dialogue, then the movie will be a lot better.
I don't care much for your video titles. The way you dare to insinuate that Revenge of the Sith is difficult to watch with that "Try" word you got up there.
I agree, I almost turned away from his Attack of the Clones vid, me thinking that he was just gonna bash the movie but ended up being the exact opposite. Overall solid vid with only a misleading title “do or do not l, there is no try.”
Just watched these again in honor of May the Fourth and they do hold up in some pretty interesting ways pretty well. But man I just absolutely cannot get over how awful the writing and the acting are. Almost consistently. The whole film just feels flat. Like soda that’s been sitting out a little too long. Order 66 in more capable hands could have been one of the greatest moments in sci-fi. Instead it just feels so inconsequential lol.
I know its an unpopular opinion but i think the obi wan show compliments this VERY well. loved it so much i bought the 4k steelbook to put on my star wars continuity shelf
Out of the three I like this one the least. And that all comes down to Anakin's portrayal that does not work for me. But I acknownlegde it works for most fans. And as bad as the sequel trilogy is with different writers... the older I get the more apparent it is this was the deal for every movie. Even in the original they never bothered to write it all out ahead of time and Lucas claiming he wrote 9 movies is a blatent lie. You see him struggling to complete a script every time. He just had random ideas.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but ROTS will always be my favorite Star Wars movie 👍🏻
Not unpopular at all. Rots is goated
I think episode 2-3 back to back is peak Star Wars
I love Phantom Menace but 90 percent of my bias is based on how awesome Darth Mauls design was
Within anyone who grew up with the prequels or saw those first, I would say it’s a popular take .
My favorite too bro. You should check out the fan edits where they edit all the deleted scenes in. Grievous killing shaak Ti at the beginning. It's stellar
Its the goat, will never change my mind
The first time I seen ROTS was at the midnight showing in 2005. I was seven then.

LSM content idea: Colin and Matty debate over the prequels 😂
This will always be my favorite Star wars film. The light saber fights are the best in the series hands down. The fall of Anakin and rise of Vader. Obi-Won is my favorite starcwars character and i love him in this film ( Ewan is goat )
Matty we have the same taste. Feel this movie highly influenced mine as well. Dark story telling > light
I love the Anakin vs Dooku scene and how it mirrors the Luke vs Vader scene.
I’m glad to see you revisiting these and still loving them. I, also, love the prequels. I will say, while I agree that the sequels were messy in storytelling and lack of vision, a lot of the series and stories that take place between the films are top tier Star Wars. I felt a massive sense of emptiness after Rebels ended until The Mandalorian.
@ Agreed!
Revenge of the Sith is my all time favorite Star Wars movie, especially the 3rd act. It somehow simultaneously feels like its high stakes, but you also know whats going to happen if that makes sense. To this day! nothing has ever topped the obi vs ani fight! What a choreographical (not sure if thats even a word) masterpiece.
*Chefs kiss to Lucas*
Happy birthday to George Lucas as well
Nick Gillard is badly needed for disney star wars.
@@ridensroom6957 Nick has said that Disney never bothered contacting him.
Duel of the Fates is way better and not as long
@@gamingdevil800Good reason too. His fights became TOO ridiculous.

The non clashing was so funny until you understand you watching two people that know eachothers moves makes it more like damn they really tryna fight but sparring on accident lol
I saw ROTS opening weekend. It was so epic. I was 9 years old when it came out. I don’t think the hype will ever be more real than it was back then
Peak Star Wars right here
Isn't it crazy how the 3 prequels are pretty much Masterpieces compared to the past few years of Star Wars movies?
nah, i would not go that far. Maybe revenge of the sith, definetly not the other 2 movies.
Absolutely killing it with the content lately between Retro Rebound/Rewind and MMP. Keep it up, Matty!
I worked at the biggest movie theatre in my city, my first job, when RotS came out. I watched this movie SOOOO MANY TIMES on the big screen. I love the original trilogy. The prequels are definitely *MY* Star Wars.

I hate that obiwan line "Only Siths deal in absolutes". Are you absolutly sure Obiwan? So you are either sith or talking nonsense.
