The journey for revenge is a symbol for how he had spent his own life after they split. Angry, bitter and becoming someone he didn't recognize. Hence, pouring it all into this story he had sent her. He never remarried, never had children so killing off the character in the end was symbolic of how he felt in his life after their child was taken from him and he had lost her. Like he had died himself and knew that his weaknesses were part of the reason he had lost them both.... And a way of telling her that this was how he had felt over how she had left him.....he was helpless, lost and weak......
Actually, in my opinion, only the weak Tony/Edward died. The feeling of their child (as well as their future as a couple) taken away from him was expressed in the red couch scene with the two corpses. In the meantime, a new Edward was born, a successful writer and finally able to leave her for good.
May be it is not about revenge but about pain and how you go on with life when someone has broken you into million pieces and you can never get them back together... Not everyone who has been hurt is after revenge! The book became his only way to keep himself on track with life, the only letter to her, who broke him in the first place!

This movie IS really, in fact, cheappy camouflaged revenge heist, but its a opinion after a few seansees. At first, it lapidates you with tragedy stiched with this trembling violins. So you, @iamsunnystream, liked Dark OST too. How about....theese: Institute Benjamenta, Pianoturner of Earthquakes, Phillip Glass's Metamorphosis.
When you think of that opening sequence without this music, the director would have been crucified for something so grotesque, insulting, morbidly comedic. But the music alone lifts the sequence to a piece of art, majestic, hauntingly beautiful music. It changes it all. That's the power of film music.

Really, I do not know. This is the first thing in my life I feel this. I watched the movie 5 times and listened to the music... I do not know how many times, around 100 times. I feel sorry for Edward, he did not deserve all what happened to him. I know that these things happened in life, since there is good deeds there will be bad and evil deeds as well. 2016 was a crazy good year for film scores. Moonlight, La La Land, Jackie all were incredible. But I personally think that the other two nominations Lion and Passengers should have been replaced with Nocturnal Animals, The Neon Demon, and/or Arrival.

I watch this movie with my brother/ I didn't what to expect but I expected my brother's reaction in the first minute or so, he was bored and looked at me like a freak, "come on dude thoses movie taste you have" then the kidpnaping scene happen, and he was in a shock state, litteraly out of breath.

I SAW IT NOW ON NETFLIX. the thematic music is engaging. The entire shoot of the film was nocturnal, both in the novel and in the main picture there is no contrast in human behaviour on any plane, either hardcore criminals or sophisticated relationships.
