The scene in which Ash tries to shoot himself is one of the most shocking, tragic and romantic things ever ! Ash would rather not exist than live in a world where Eiji does not exist.
he pulled the trigger with no hesitation…my heart aches
It’s sad when you see that as a protagonist Ash has no self-serving ambitions or dreams. Because no matter how intelligent he is, he’s been so conditioned by his upbringing and trauma that there is no real future he can see for himself where he’s completely cut off from this violence and destruction. It seems like a faraway dream or a wish. To Ash, living has always been - and will always be - about survival.
That’s why the scene where he doesn't hesitate to shoot himself doesn’t just reveal his loyalty to Eiji, but emphasizes how tenuous his connection to living is. His words from a previous episode also highlight this - “I’m not afraid of death…at times death looks sweet, peaceful and unbearingly enticing”.
To Ash (who sees himself as a monster, and sees living as an ongoing nightmare) making this sacrifice for Eiji, the only “pure” and “good” thing in his life, is as simple as flipping a switch. To him his own death is barely a loss.
And this is what shocks Yut Lung. Because despite him thinking that he and Ash are similar, his traumatic upbringing has made him the exact opposite. Yut Lung seeks ONLY his own desires; everything he does is for himself and his ambitions. So in their world of constant violence, greed, and deception, he honestly doesn’t understand what it means to be self-sacrificing, or to value someone's life above his own. Which is essentially just as tragic as Ash not knowing how to value himself at all.

This episode was so intense and emotional and I love your reaction!
Blanca is a fascinating character in this, saying one thing while he internally goes on just as much of a journey as our other characters have. But he's such an impressive threat in two episodes, making our seemingly invincible Ash crumble.
But Ash being ready to take his own life in a heartbeat to save Eiji and Yut Lung's reaction is just SO GOOD and SO HEARTBREAKING. I love how confused and irritated Yut Lung becomes in these scenes.
I love your theorizing with where the show is going to go in the last 6 episodes -- there are so many possibilities, but I honestly had NO idea it would take the turns it did...and I can't wait to see your reaction to the twists and turns Banana Fish still has in store!
This entire episode was an emotional rollercoaster but what broke me was max telling ash to go save his friend.
This episode is a rollercoaster! The Ash/Eiji domesticity/married couple energy, the encroaching threat of Yut-Lung, Blanca & Dino, the "Gizmo/Izumo", "Come to Japan with me" discussion, Eiji getting grazed, the ultimatum, Ash & Blanca's fight ... it's a lot. 😵💫
This is generally the episode where everyone (character in the story and the audience) realizes how much Ash has changed. This story is generally so fast-paced that you don't really realize how much character development has happened until it smacks you in the face. That moment of zero hesitation will always make me flinch.
It's not just much Ash has changed, it's how well other characters know him know. Eiji knowing Ash's tells - that he gets super calm with lying - and Max knowing immediately the reason for Ash's "double-cross". Everyone's changed (and will continue to change).
"Come to Japan with me." has the same pain as "Come back to Gusu with me." 😭

Well said! Ash will finally let himself go to Japan only once he can become a free bird because right now it's like carrying a shadow towards the paradise. He needs to kill his physical demons first, which will also definitely help in killing his mental demons.
Blanca is a great element in the story! It brings really great conversations like the one after they fought.
I love how you want YutLung to change sides so much. Relatable feelings everywhere. He is another great character, oof
Next episode is the one that hurt me the most, Ash living with Golzine... it's a nightmare.
Also this ep, that gun scene... Jesus Christ. I was not okay
Yea I had to step away after ash's breakdown & him saying he's there toilet omfg I could not stop crying. It's still one of the hardest scenes to rewatch but then again the whole journey is tbh lol love this story so much but PAIN.
@@Nyjae8God, same. I specifically remember the episode number because I genuinely had never felt so, so bad for a character that I literally said "Just kys at this point..." cause literally I wanted it to end for him. But he can't even do that either, for Eiji. Lordddd
I've been busy the past days but I couldn't wait to see your reaction! This is definitely one of the most emotional episodes in my opinion. To see Ash begging, eyes full of tears, is heartbreaking. And this isn't even the most breaking we'll get.

Blanca is actually a very complex and deep character that understands Ash and his love for Eiji better than anyone ! I think you will love him for the rest of this show
And oh that scene of Ash, the gun and the way he shows how blessed he feels to be loved just for being himself T_T Ash would do anything for Eiji to be in this world and be happy, his life doesn't matter if Eiji isn't there because it's Eiji who gives importance to Ash as a person, if he is not there, Ash would not be a person, he wouldnt have a reason to live, and that is the reason for everything hes doing, because no matter what happens to him, as long as he knows that Eiji is okay he will still have a little peace and harmony in his heart
Also, since we're near the end, I would just like to beg you to *_please react to the epilogue - Garden of Light, and maybe some clips of New York Sense too._* I swear it gives some kind of closure. Pleaseee 🙇🏻♀️🙏🏻
New York Sense is Eiji's photography book. It's really nice, seeing there's official illustrations AND real life photos of their life in NYC.
I'm not sure how he has changed
he gave his gun up immediately when skip and Eiji were kidnapped he's not going to let anyone innocent going to die because of him.absolutely needed. everyone was shocked when Ash started taking revenge and he started hating himself

. Despite being popular because of his looks I can't just like him because for me he exacerbated Ash's trauma and depression that led to his death. Also he could've tried saving Ash when he was younger. They built him up with this OP skills but he didn't try to save him and even drag him back to his abuser. Abusers are hated because they are abusers but for people who stood by, I feel we don't hold other people accountable for ignoring and letting abuse happen if they could do something about it.

Idk y yall think Yut lung can switch sides cz it's pretty clear he hates Eiji and the face he made when Ash shot himself was a face of confusion and annoyance as to y Ash is willing to go so far for someone like Eiji, it wasn't a face of thinking abt switching sides
Aaaand shit hits the fan TTATT. And it'll be MESSY. It's absolutely sad how much Eiji means to Ash. Sure, it's kinda "romantic", but having to live a life where you lost all meaning to your existence without ONE person, that's just tragic.
