って思った瞬間刺されて放心した。
穏やかな顔で逝けたのがせめてもの救い、、
そしてシンが英二に「また会おうって言ってた」って嘘ついたのが本当にいい奴すぎてそこも泣けた。

アッシュはきっと英二と一緒に飛行機に乗って日本へ行ったんだ。たとえ魂だけだったとしても、英二の言葉通り、二人は魂で寄り添いあってるんだって......。そうじゃないとやりきれない
たまに英二の夢にアッシュがひょっこり出てきて、二人で楽しいお話をして、人生を満喫した後は地獄で罪を償って、そして来世では二人もショーターもスキップも、みんな幸せに生きてほしいな。
感傷に浸ってこんなポエムみたいなことを書いちゃうくらいにはほんとにダメージが大きいんだけど、今まで見てきた中で一番素敵なアニメだった。みんなに幸あれ！！！！！！

見たのは最近だけど、結果を知らずに見て心に穴が開きました…
私はこういうのはどうせハッピーエンドで終わるんでしょみたいななんの根拠もない自信があって、アッシュが走り出した時きっと間に合うんだって心の底から思った瞬間刺された…

アニメの登場人物にここまで感情移入するのは初めてでした…

感情移入しすぎて話が進むごとに寿命縮みました。。私も、今までハッピーエンドしか見てこなかったので安心して見ていましたが、まさかの展開にずっと立ち直れずにいます、
全くもっておなじです。感情移入が凄かったんで見終わった後の喪失感が半端なかったです。頭が真っ白になったし、涙はこれでもかってくらい溢れ出てきて、その喪失感は1~3日で消えるものじゃなくて、3ヶ月以上引きずりました。聴いたら涙が出ちゃうのにKing Gnuのprayer Xを聞きたくなってしまってまた大泣きっていう繰り返しで1年くらい経った今でもアッシュを見ただけで涙が出てきますこんなに泣いたことは人生で初めてでした。アッシュは幸せになったかもしれませんが、残された英二の姿を光の庭を読んで見た時は胸が苦しくて苦しくてずーっと泣いてましたねwどうか英二には幸せになって欲しかったなってすごい思います。
一緒に日本に行って、銃なんて持たずに暮らして欲しかった……
Honestly, Ive actually grew to really love and appreciate this ending. (I’m gonna go an a rant, i doubt anyone will even see or read this but honestly I kinda need the therapy, and maybe it could help someone else cope with their post-Bananafish depression?)
The first time I watched this anime I was utterly devastated and depressed for like a week, I just wanted to see Ash and Eiji live happily and I felt I was deprived of that. But after rewatching it and rewatching this ending scene like at least 20 times (Ik I’m insane) and trying to find the meaning in each line (+ losing probably a gallon of tears), I think it is one of the most beautiful, touching scenes I’ve seen in anime. And I think it’s often overlooked as just being super sad and unfair (which it, and most death, is).
I think despite his unfair death, Ash was given a true miracle-this random Japanese man who popped into his life saw through the facades and the walls he build up around him. Ash was always pushing him and others away to try and protect them. He learned to lock away his emotions in order to survive so much cruelty. So he kept adding another wall, another lock to the chain on his heart. And this hurt Eiji because he was able to see past that and see Ash for who he truly was, a severely damaged and hurting human being. He says, “You didn’t come because you thought it was what was best for me... but that is just too painful”. Eiji sees how Ash acts to protect others, but at the cost of himself, and it pains him. Eiji wants to protect Ash for once, protect his heart from his destiny of solitude, like the lone leopard metaphor. “Such indescribable loneliness... I wanted to protect you from that fate”... And I think that is why we continually see Eiji causing Ash to be vulnerable and get hurt. He breaks down the walls Ash has built to protect himself in a hard world. But it is one for the cost of another and we see these two things pulling at Ash throughout the story as he doesn’t know which to chose. In the end, when Ash chooses to accept Eiji’s love, he finally drops the walls he’s built around him, and tries to run to Eiji, to finally open his heart and receive protection instead of always trying to give. However, he gets stabbed as the cost for his vulnerability. But Ash never really cared about his physical body, and in the end, because he finally opened up, Eiji was able to heal and save his soul from a fate of loneliness and pain.
We see the contrast between Eiji at the airport, surrounded by smiles and friends, while at the same time Ash was dying all alone. This was like an amplification of their two different worlds-Eiji in his world of light and Ash in his world of darkness and solitude. But that isn’t necessarily the case. Because beneath the loud goodbyes, and the sudden stabbing, we see Ash and Eiji are actually connected. No matter how far, their souls speak to each other, they carry eachother in each of their hearts... Eiji can hear Ash call out his name, and Ash dies feeling Eiji by his side. He doesn’t actually die cold and alone. And we’ve see just how many people in this anime die in the darkness and filth of the streets. He reads and hears Eiji say, “I will always be by your side, my soul is with you” and looks up and sees the light, shining in through a hole in the top of his dark, cruel world. It is his salvation, he is able to die bathed in warmth and love, and finally be at peace.

I just finished watching it today. My heart is broken. I'm watching reaction videos, reading thoughts of people as I watched it alone & I wanted someone to cry with & yeah It makes me even more sad. I'll need time to recover i guess. But thank u for the rant, for thinking abt someone that could get comfort from ur words. I knew since Blanca said "He choose to love & die instead of hate & rule" to Yut-Lung where things were heading but nthg could have prepared me for it. Despite Ash having people who hated him, there're many people who cared for him. I was surprised how much Dino kept on saying he wanted Ash alive throughout the series & even died saving Ash. I'll def watch it again & again bcoz I want to understand it better. Anyways, it was the best anime I've watched so far

I just finished the last episode today and honestly that was one of the saddest endings I’ve seen. I couldn’t believe it made me cry so much and I couldn’t even believe the ending. Last time I cried like this was when I had my first break up. I was literally the guy on the top right but crying like an emotional baby lol

ずっと放心状態だった。大量の涙と鼻水が滝のように流れた。
一緒にいれば状況が良くなるわけでもなく寧ろ悪化するのに、そういうことひっくるめてもただただ一緒にいられることが唯一アッシュにとって必要な幸せだったって思うと究極だよなあ
この作品は英二の行動が裏目に出れば出るほど、アッシュの人生を英二が狂わせれば狂わすほど、理屈じゃない愛の強烈さとか、魂の結びつきがはっきりと浮かび上がる
ちょっと気持ちが追いつかなさすぎて放心状態だったな。アッシュ生きてるって歓喜させてからのあのラスト。このラストだからこそ心に残るっていうのはあるけどまじでキツい。

もうだいぶ昔に原作読んでショック受けたけど、結末がわかっていても見ていると目が潤んでくる
色んな国の人たちが同じようにショックを受けてるのを見るとは昔は考えもしなかったな
最後に愛を知った。だから…とエンディングで思ったけれど、やっぱりあの終わり方が受け入れられず、あの後続編が出来てアッシュが訪日した、と想像を創作して受け入れてたりした。初めて見た時は唖然とするだけで受け入れがたかったのに、この皆の反応を見ながら観ていたら、涙が溢れてきた。アニメなのにアッシュが私の中に存在しているみたいな感覚がある。

i think why ash just sat in the library waiting for death is because after eiji got shot, ash prayed to the gods to take his life instead of eiji. maybe he thought that his prayer got accepted, that if he died there, then eiji will be safe

Atrapa desde el primera capi pero no estoy contigo de que su final fue injusto,todo lo contrario,fue el final ideal para Ash,no podia vivir como una persona ordinaria despues de todo lo que hizo,hubiera sido injusto un final junto a Eiji,aunque admito que no me hubiera caido mal.
El final fué realista, y eso fué el mentalbreak que nos dió a todos. Pasó un final inevitable, y no pudimos intervenir en nada. 😢

Yeah, our mileage may vary on morality & values there... I wish she hasn't said that. I'd rather the excuse was that sometimes that's just life. Or that grief like this makes stories stay with you. But I really detest the idea that Ash had a comeuppance & had he somehow deserved it, in the grand scheme of things. It's like confirming every self-loathing statement that he'd ever uttered about himself, and that Eiji tried to stamp out. He was a good boy (let's not forget his age) who did his best with the absolutely horrifying hand fate dealt him. I think most people feel the same about this.
