    Lets not forget the courage of the young man. It's not easy to accept help from others. Think of the courage it takes to finish an event like that - then consider the option of "failing"... that's part of the beauty of helping and being helped. The only way for it to take place is both men have to participate. ONe needs the courage to help - the other needs the courage to accept help. Kudos to you both!

Isnt is something like every man needed, if you served and didnt get a dishonorable discharge then why be down about not doing anything. doesnt mean you still didnt sign up to protect and serve when other people wouldnt or couldnt. You did. Then thats why allot of people are needed for different things because if everysingle man was fighting then how fucked would we be that everyman is fighting and noone to do the other stuff that people dont consider worthy but it is thats why we are the way we are. OORAH Marine!!! While it's said that any decent human being would have done the same thing, it seems that there is often times a shortage of those human beings who would help out. The fact that this young Marine jumped without hesitation shows me some of the values that are taught to our troops as they go through their training. I'm an Army mom, and a part of the Army warrior ethos is "no man left behind", and I'm sure that is something that the Marines do also. No matter what, this was an awesome ending for this young cancer survivor.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      survivrs I agree, and that boy will remember that for the rest of his life. I believe every branch of the service has some form of the "No Man Left Behind" in their troop manuals, as well as it should be. That also needs to be drilled into the heads of civilians who are too busy with their noses stuck in their phones to take time and help someone else. What gets me are the huge number of people who won't take the time to stop and help a child in need, but that phone is so important to them they just can't stop and help. All those people out there standing around, nobody bothered to run out there and help that boy that's just pathetic. I don't even think he cared if he won, he just wanted to finish the race. That Marine did his duty and helped accomplish the mission. No...I'm not a Marine, I do however know several and looking back I wish I would have chosen the Marine Corps over what I did do LOL.

      William Todd I really love what you said! Something I got to witness when we made a trip to spend some time with our son and daughter-in-law before he was discharged in August (honorably), they took us to see a number of things, and as much as I loved seeing all that, what I noticed that made me so proud was to hear him say "yes sir" or "Thank you ma'am" etc. We got to spend a week with them at Thanksgiving and I still heard him speak that way. He even spoke to me a couple of times like that and my heart absolutely melted. I wish every young man was put through basic training for any of the branches of our military. I think many of them would learn some of the core values that being a member of the military teaches. I think our crime rate would be much lower.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      survivrs I agree, I didn't think things through when I joined the National Guard. I still went through basic training just as every other Army soldier does. I always had good manners anyways, but it just instilled those values deeper into me. I served for 12 years and when my last term of service was up I chose not to re-enlist due to many things that were going on. I should have just went into a different branch of service...but you learn these things after its too late LOL. I'm too old to re-enlist now :(. Anyhow, yes its great to see soldiers regardless of their branch of service being professional and courteous no matter where they are. Sounds like y our son is doing great even past his enlistment and most likely he always will. The military always seems to put something into people that keep them doing things the right way. There are exceptions of course but for the most part those who serve continue to do so even after they are discharged from the military. Thank you to you, your family and your son for your service. I believe everyone in the family serves, not just the soldier.

      William Todd First, I thank you so much for your service and the many sacrifices you made while you were enlisted. I have to agree with your point about the entire family serves. I've watched several kids grow up and join the military, its great to see them doing something that will help them in the future.

    It's great to have a little pride in your work, but not too much. He is a kind man with great humility. He is human first, then American, and finally a Marine. Marine is just a title of a job you do . He is a good man for doing that. Not just because you are a Marine are you good. I know many Marines that are not. But there are many people that are not marines that are not good either. So not just because you are employed by the Marine Corp makes you a HERO or a "good person". Not every marine actually understands Semper fi either. All men not just Marines should be Semper Fi. Marine Corp uses this phrase but we humans should be it too. So to all who also have served with good intentions in their hearts, I thank you for your service.
