Thats not Goose steeping like the Germans did
The goose step dates back to the Roman Empire. It was both a display of physical fitness and military discipline. Plus the sound of their hobnailed sandals pounding the ground scared the crap out of their enemies 😏
It just sounds silly
@@iandavies6575Said no one, ever :-/
Been out for almost 20 years and hearing a drill instructor call cadence and hearing those foot steps is one of the best sounds I’ve ever heard
I remember back in 2014, our favorite DI got selected to DI for USN officer recruits. He left right after the crucible so we didn't get to graduate with him. His last day with us, he marched us to morning chow one last time and did one of these slow melodic marches. We leaned back so hard that god could look down at our faces and our heels were so crisp and loud that the devil himself hid in a cave in Afghanistan. It was awesome. The man, the myth, the legend, SSgt Munoz
Wow. Thank you for sharing!
dosnt the truth today show us that USA was/is the devil in afghanistan?
or let me say it in a fair way. the US army soldiers did devils work in afghanistan. young man risk ther live for powerfull rich ppl who wanted to get more power and became richer
Everybody has several "peak" moments in boot camp -- physically, mentally, everything. Our COD moment was in San Diego coming back from evening chow. We were, for that moment in time, a perfect drilling machine the likes of which had never been seen anywhere. All our senior could say after we did our facing movement in front of our squad bay was, "Well, no shit!"

Totally new to me, an old codger. Can't believe I'm seeing Marines doing a 'model walk' then a goosestep!
Beautiful to watch.
Reminds me when we did the death march on a foggy morning back in 83. Marines boot camp. It was a really slow step, with a blues way of singing. I’ll never forget that. First time I ever felt one with everything.
I went to PI in May of 2001. Thank you for the nostalgia with your amazing cadence SSgt, Semper Fi Devil

Have never seen this march before. Thank you all for your service!
76 to 80 and I remember it like yesterday, a soul that is still a Marine. SEMPER FI - WE NEVER DIE.
I’m an Active Duty US Army soldier. When I was in BCT, my Senior Drill Sergeant was a prior service Marine scout sniper & infantry man with multiple combat deployments, & my platoon Drill Sergeant was a prior service Marine infantry man that transitioned into the Army infantry. They would make us perform D&C to this standard. Needless to say I went through Marine boot camp in the Army 😭💯 kinda crazy bc I went for the Marines but the recruiter was an idiot so I went to the Army recruiter who had a few more brain cells, & now after being in for a little while, I plan on transitioning into the Marines after my contract 🖤🇺🇸
I was AFROTC and decided to join the NAVY, but all 4 chair's were full, MARINE sargent said, have a seat, and wait for them to finish, you know what happened next and 6 months after boot the a NAVY Captain, soon to be Rear Admiral lower half O7 ask me would I want to come and use my skills in the NAVY 😮 It was 4 years before I knew my command seen my gift for communication, I didn't thing was a big deal until 1979 and was single out by the Inspector General for the best at Camp Pendleton CA.
Go Marines, GO NAVY, and GO Airforce-Spacefoce.
I did tell the NAVY what my SRB would look like. That i could not make up my mind 😅 it would be hard to get promoted. They would ask, "Are you going to join the ARMY next?" No😊. Ok, go, army.
I served in the USMC from 84-88. I'm gonna tell you to stay in the Army or go Air Force.
There are more opportunities in the Army and Air Force. The USMC doesn't give a crap about your prior service. They'll treat you as if you've never served at all. You'll lose rank if you go USMC. If you leave the Army a Sgt E5 you'll have to go through boot camp in the USMC. You only leave boot camp an E3. The Army advances you to E4 automatically. In the USMC E4 is a Corporal, NCO. You have to work your butt off to promote to Corporal. Why start over the hard way? Too many BS games in the USMC. If you get into any trouble, they don't forget it or let you redeem yourself. You have to walk on water to advance
Good luck!
You don't transition from any branch into the USMC. You will have to go to boot camp again if you join the USMC. That goes for anyone. Even if you are an officer in any other branch and join the USMC, you WILL go through boot camp. If you are prior service USMC, you can join any branch without having to go through their basic training.
This is so AWESOME!!! always wanted to be a marine but I couldn’t because of my back …talked to a recruiter in high school and yea, he said I couldn’t 😢😢😢 but yea, thank you to our military for your services ❤❤❤ GOD BLESS!!!

This sounds so familiar. Thank you for sharing :)

At age 71 I will remain a Marine until the day I die. Back in my day we tried some monkey drills, but after so many sick bay calls were needed it was decided we were better firing howitzers than drilling.

MCRD - San Diego, 1967, ours was the top drill platoon in the battalion, we loved making that thunder!
If you want to pay for college, join the army. If you want to see the world, join the navy. If you want to learn a job for after you separate, join the Air Force. If you want to find out who you are, you join the United States Marine Corps.
I’ve always wanted to enlist since I was 3 my dad was a marine and then switched to the army, he worked with army special operations and I’ve always wanted to follow in his footsteps. I’m stuck between army and marines it’s just something about the marines that they’re so intense with spirit but at the same time Army has some cool ass special operations
For those wondering about the goosetepping, it is done as a training exercise by some platoons in order to ensure that they are driving their heels and keeping 40 inches back to chest. We never did it in my platoon but i saw others doing it, it's not something you would do during an actual graded drill. Yes nazis and north koreans do it but i can assure you the US Marine Corps is not a fascist organization and never will be, it's just marching, nothing more, nothing less.
I hope you’re right, because it’s the first thing I noticed in this video.
Civilians will never understand. They just imagine
@@Tkcrypto1 My dad was career Army, 82nd Airborne and Third Army. I grew up an Army brat in half the Army Posts in the Western Hemisphere. I understand way more than you think. Whatever your opinion of civilians, Goose-Stepping is not a good look in today’s political climate.
@Debbie338 I agree that it doesn't look for from a civilian or political view, but in the Marines we do not have a political view, we do not have racial or ethnic bigotry, we are a brotherhood and marching is about discipline. People have the right to think freely and make assumptions but what I think he is trying to say is that unless you have been to bootcamp then you wouldn't understand, it's almost impossible to explain what goes on there.
In 1977 when I went to Boot Camp, we were expected to make some noise during drill as well. But it never involved goose-stepping
Thats why I love my Marine💙
Marching in any type of boot that has rubber heels is difficult at best. As a Marine Drill Instructor myself (3rd Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD San Diego) from 72 to 75, trying to get a platoon of 40-70 recruits to sound as one is hell of a chore. I remember in first phase (there are 3 phases of recruit training), I've often had the recruits lift their legs and dig their heels in order for them to hear themselves march and then adjust accordingly. At times, some civilians visiting the base would seem shocked to see a few recruit platoons seemingly "goose step," and I always had to laugh when I saw their expressions. The best boots for marching have leather heels and cleats. The Germans to this day still use the older high black boots with leather heels and cleats in their honor guard battalion based in Berlin. They don't goose step anymore (when you lose two wars, you give up the right to goose step I suppose). But the sound these boots make, enables all involved to hear themselves and adjust accordingly. Here is a quick video of of the German Berlin based honor guard (used for ceremonial purposes). Here you can see their boots bloused under the trousers.
Listen towards the end of the video when the honor guard has arrived and they are marking time - now listen to those boots!

That was pretty tight at the end. Thanks for the video recommendation. Semper Fi.
I was in Class 16-73 at Navy Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS)...14 weeks with Marine DIs whose orders were "Make them quit!" and whose only limit on them was "Don't get Court Martialed." There was an officer who first went through Parris Island to become a Marine, then Quantico to become a Marine officer, then AOCS...he recorded in a book about AOCS that getting through AOCS was the toughest of the three.
They created Marine officers in Navy wrappers...and we loved them for it.

A lot has changed since 66. Semper Fi Brothers.
Dumb question, but does anybody know if the Navy is intense with their drills? I understand the Marines being this intense, its what they're known for.
No, neither is the Army or AF.
I am a seven year active duty Marine veteran from the 80's and I was prior service with the Army. I'm not knocking the Army or any other branch, but once I arrived in Marine boot camp, I quickly realized it was a totally different ball game, so to speak. The mentality level amongst fellow Marines is second to none, hence the term, "Esprit de corps". I have been accused of being arrogant, but I see it as being confident. Marines calling cadence sometimes sounds like they're speaking a different language, but the results can be seen and heard in their precision. Calling out, "Left, right, left" and "Ten hut" just seems to have no positive impact on their morality.
@@toddcooper2563it’s true. Went through MCRD San Diego in 91. We had a 4 year prior army service vet in my platoon. He said it was a different world. Marine boot was way more challenging.
Oh those were the days, 77-81. Semper Fi
Been there done that paris Island 73 remember it well some 50 years later...feels like yesterday.
Back in the 80’s when I was newly assigned to Rifle Range BAS, my HM2 was good friends with a lot of DI’s. So he knew when they would be doing drills like this at one of mainside BN’s and we would go out after sick call, watch/listen to the drills. Six months later assigned to 3rd Marines HQ BN. 8404 😊

I went to boot camp in 1979. I was in first battalion and there was another SDI whose cadence was incredible. He rolled his r's beautifully and the cadence came out like the song Jesus Christ Superstar from the move Hair. I remember thinking, damn I wish he was our SDI. His cadence is great! I tried replicating when I was a DI at PISC and I did okay but no where near as good as the SDI in 1979.
As a former Marine 77-82, I don't remember ever seeing goose-stepping in any US military before. Especially not in the USMC. Not until this video anyway
