IMO...Ardyn won in the end, he got all that he wanted, he wanted revenge on the ones who wronged him ...yup he got that, he wanted to die, yup he got that too, and his original objective before he got shafted, he wanted to save the world from demons, and he got that too as he led noctis to becoming the true king.
I absolutely agree. That said, I would also kill for a prequel game to see how his story started, now that we've seen how it ended. I mean, really.. for me Ardyn was the main character of the game. Noctis just came along 2000 years later to finally give him the peace and the rest he deserved.
I did propose a prequel game on the forums, but no one there seems to care. :( Or, if not a prequel, at least a book, a movie, a cartoon.... SOMETHING. forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/23954/sooo-about-ardyn-spoilers#latest :(
I've seen Kingsglaive, but that's not the kind of story I want told. I want to know more about 2000 years ago when the Starscourge happened, when Ardyn was a healer, and before he got screwed over. I want to know the details of THAT story. It's unlikely to ever happen, but a girl can dream. :)
I got the impression that Ardyn's ultimate goal was not only revenge against the betrayers, but also for him to finally die. Ardyn knew that the only way he could die is from the kings, but in killing him, the betrayers line would also end.
No...he just wanted Noctis to Achieve the Crystals Power so he can defeat Noctis AND the Crystal at the same Time so no one could ever defeat the Darkness...
He was related to “The Mystic” I think the royal edition had some extra content. Not sure since it’s the only one I played but that specific king says “go and free my brother or rescue my brother”
they made ravus look like a bad guy in truth he never was he was angry because Regis didn't help him and his Mom he took off with noct and Luna but Luna stayed behind and ravus I feel bad for him having to hold that anger in I'm sure Regis really cares he probly hates himself for a lot but now both kingdoms are safe now and there will be a new king
+Final Fantasy Peasant I agree with most of your ideas but here’s my take on Ardyn and the whole story (I wrote this quickly, it may be long but stick around, it'll be worth the read): Ardyn is not the villain of the game but he’s the antagonist. He’s not truly evil nor does he want vengeance. He just want to get rid of the scourge that has plagued the world and kill himself to end his suffering. Before reading, remember the quote in Final Fantasy versus xiii: “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” -- William Shakespeare Final Fantasy XV still kept this idea. So here’s what I understand, Eos is the goddess who created humans and since Ifrit wasn’t quite fond of the humans, he released the star scourge or the plague of the stars into the world and upon the humans. In order to protect the humans, Eos sent Bahamut and Shiva and the other Astrals to the world of Eos. And to protect them, Bahamut gave his power, which is to summon swords and use the power of light, to a chosen one. Shiva was in charge of choosing the oracle to help stop the scourge. And somehow they both came and chose Ardyn Lucis Caelum as the “first” chosen one to rid Eos of the scourge, which we see on the cover of the Cosmogony book telling the story of the first “king” of light. The person on the cover has to be Ardyn because in the art book that came with the ultimate edition, there’s two pictures that depict a person who has the power of the oracle absorbing demons and cleansing people of the scourge and was hailed as the savior while walking down the street on his Black Chocobo (and it has to be Ardyn’s black chocobo because his outfit has black feathers on his left arm and that’s the only reason why he would have black feathers on his outfit -- probably as a memory of his last true friend who stood by his side till the end). So, Ardyn is the first “unofficial” King of Light or the chosen one who has both the powers of the Lucis Caelum and the Oracle (it was also pointed out near the end when he fought with Noctis and said “...but you are only the second choice at best” -- meaning that Noctis was the second chosen one but Ardyn was the first). He also mentioned that he was betrayed by “...a jealous king, one who was not yet chosen by the crystal,” which I’m thinking that he could be his brother whose name could be Izunia Lucis Caelum (or cousin but I’m leaning more towards brother because you might not kill you brother but you might kill your cousin lol). And the reason why Izunia is not a surname is because the power of light is passed down through the family, which is emphasized a lot through the game and movie, and there is no good reason why Bahamut would bestow his power on a different family than the same, current family. Because if Ardyn was truly benevolent then there is no reason for Bahamut to doubt Ardyn’s brother to be a good candidate as well. And it would be good to keep the power to only one family rather than two because as a god/astral who can bestow such a great power to humans, why would Bahamut create more imbalance in the world or cause more problems in the world. Remember, what is Bahamut’s true mission: to get rid of the scourge, not saving just one’s life but saving humanity as a whole. So by choosing just one family as a sacrifice (fyi what Noctis did at the end which ended the family but got rid of the scourge) the problem is solved within the family itself. In addition, it is known in the omen trailer that Bahamut can foresee the future, so in this case, he probably knew how to get rid of the scourge even before choosing Ardyn and needed two people to sacrifice themselves (Ardyn and Noctis). Bahamut and Shiva choose Ardyn to cleanse the people of the scourge by absorbing all the daemons into himself (in one container -- sad fate but the truth). And Ardyn can’t become king because if he is immortal who will end his burden. So here is where his brother Izunia comes in. Bahamut and Izunia probably talked and Izunia agreed, not to just help Bahamut but also to help his dear brother to end his suffering. But in order for Izunia to become king, he needs the people’s help so he demonized and ostracized Ardyn by claiming that Ardyn is now a daemon, which would led people to hate Ardyn but choose Izunia who had just as much credibility to be king since he is Ardyn’s brother. So in Ardyn’s eyes, it seems like Izunia is jealous of him and wants to be king, but probably in truth, Izunia just wants to free his brother Ardyn from a never ending burden. Because Izunia knew from the meeting with Bahamut that the only way to free his brother Ardyn from the curse is to have another chosen one to end Ardyn’s curse. And Bahamut can’t choose Izunia as the chosen one because it takes 2000 years (2000 years because Ardyn said he waited that long for his “supposed” vengeance) for the crystal/Bahamut to absorb enough light in order to choose another one as the King of light and get rid of the scourge. But Bahamut probably had enough to bestow the power to Izunia so that 2000 years later, someone from their family line can save Ardyn from the burden and end the scourge. And that 2000 years later just so happens to be during Noctis’s time. The reason Ardyn is not evil or would not want vengeance is because the king is his brother who he loves dearly. If Ardyn truly wanted vengeance he would have done so 2000 years ago during the time when Izunia was trying to take his throne since Ardyn still has the chosen power from Bahamut. Or he could have done so many, many times throughout the Lucis Caelum family line, but he didn’t. He was truly a saint (in the art book he was depicted kind of like Jesus who sacrifice himself for our sins -- aka daemons/scourge in FFXV). To further proof why Ardyn was not evil or even the villain in the game, throughout the game he helped led Noctis to gather the powers of the astrals (specifically the Titan but indirectly with the other astrals, for example Leviathan -- there was a part where he said he knew how to get into the “covenant” with Leviathan but we weren’t given much more info -- and could explain how Ignis got blind), captured Prompto but didn’t kill him, and at the end, he could have just killed Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto but didn’t again. Plus, you might also say that he brought Ifrit to Noctis purposely so that Noctis can finish Ifrit who started the whole problem in the game (because if you think about it, if it wasn’t for Ardyn, how are you going to find Ifrit in the game and finish him off or even getting rid of the scourge?) Also people questioned why he didn’t have a “final form” or used the daemons inside of him to fight Noctis at the end, but this could be because he didn’t want to kill Noctis but let Noctis kill him instead. He just wanted Noctis to end the scourge and end his suffering. And in order to do that, he needed to lit the fire in Noctis by making Noctis hate him. However, you might argued that Ardyn was evil since he indirectly killed Luna (Luna was ultimately killed by Leviathan from drowning -- it was said in the game) but he had to do this because Luna was keeping the daemons at bay by absorbing the scourge into herself and cleansing others. If he kills Luna, the world would turn dark and there would be a reason for Noctis to kill him (after Luna dies, Noctis and his friends learned that the days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer). If Luna is alive, then Noctis does not have to kill himself in order to kill Ardyn. Luna could just keep absorbing the scourge and there would not be a big problem with the scourge yet. So Ardyn has to kill Luna in order for his plan to work, which is to end his suffering and the scourge. If there was any evil, he was choosing the lesser evil or forced to (many people think he won at the end by eliminating the Lucis Caelum family and fulfilling his calling, but I think the Gods are the one who won in their mission). For those who are wondering where Niflheim fits into the story, Niflheim is just an asset for Ardyn to achieve his plan by making the problem bigger. Niflheim exploited the power of the scourge by using the daemons for their magitek technology but at the end, they ultimately failed and the emperor was turned into a daemon (aka Foras). They were also the one who forced Regis to follow through Noctis’s fate by attacking Insomnia and other countries. Niflheim never was the main problem of the story. It was never about reclaiming the throne.*cries* It was about cleaning after the Gods’ mess. This is my take on the story. I think the story is really deep and dark but needs more appreciation. Please share this hypothesis if you like it.
This theory that makes the most sense and should be narrated by Ardyn's fading spirit.. If only they were doing more dlc that is. This was well worth the read.
"Ardyn is not the villain of the game" Really? Wow! Everything he did from killing to giving empire the knowledge to manufacture demons and he's not the villain? Regardless of his motivations he is a villain because of the things he did.
You know one is a hell of a villain when 1) They help the protagonist, 2) They get under the protagonist's skin that quickly, 3) Murder protagonist's beloved in front of their eyes, 4) Actually achieve their goal
@@kain7513 I will agree that Luna needed more screen time. But you’re wrong about the story which is utterly brilliant it was the story TELLING that wasn’t up to par. I know that’s a lot to ask, but you’ll be doing us all a favour
@@BigGamingBossMan In the game itself there was no story and I'm not going to be lootboxed into watching the rest of it via movies and dlc. So simply put the story did suck. 11:26 Gentiana/Shova tells the story of Ifrit in that stained glass cutscene at some point in the game. He was the first of the six to take notice of the good in humanity and aided them by teaching them to make fire to better themselves . He felt betrayed by humanity when they used this knowledge and the technological advancements it led to for war.
I think it's Noctis Lucis Caelum; I think it's likely that Ardyn and Izunia were brothers, which would be a classic tale of betrayal which would fit the story imo.
No, they were father and son. There was never any sibling quarrel or else they would have mentioned this in the book of the gods choosing two, not one King
But there was no brother, if there was then the lore book would have stated this. "The Gods chose two people, The Gods chose twins. The Gods chose Brothers." But it specifically states "The Gods chosen One King" and by cannon story, the ring can only be pass down by HIS BLOODLINE, which is stated in Kingsglave when Nyx wore the ring despite he was worthy of wearing it. Izunia is a boy name, Adyrn has a grudge against his family. Who do you think started that grudge???
Rachel Highfill what's up your ass? Have you played the game? If you had a single brain cell, you would've understand the general story of the game. The combat wasnt final fantasy, but it wasnt bad either . Im sure you're just some edgy gamer girl looking for attention. Shut your bitch ass up and sit the fuck down.
@@pabloquinones9960 Tbh, I don't agree with the way he is talking but all his points are correct. The fighting was awful. It was literally impossible to die. The balancing is a joke. The world looks nice but is empty. The Water city looks stunning but only has 1 hour of content. They could have done so much more. Break Luna out or something. The general story is beautiful. Well, it was before they changed it to be something mediocre. All the interviews and behind the scenes build the world beautifully but the game dumbed it down to a disgusting level. The game had SO MUCH potential yet used none of it. Luna being the biggest joke of them all. The game was REALLY short. The first 1-8 chapters are uneventful until you reach the Water city. After that, you blazed through the last half with a few chapters only being 5-10 minutes long and just being a train ride. There are only 2 things I can give good credit for. ONLY 2. The music and the dungeons. That's it. Everything else is honestly pretty bad up to below average. I regret watching the Final Fantasy XV UNCOVERED EVENT at 3 AM with the announcement of the Platinum Demo and release date. Preordered the deluxe edition with the movie and steelbook. At least the steelbook looks nice.
Dr. Ghoztz yeah I agree with you because the only way to get rid of adryn was to kill him then put him in the ring in the afterlife and after that the ring has to be destroyed and if the ring is destroyed than all the kings in the ring will be gone as well so adryn basically got revenge on them and that's why he wanted to die
Gabe Parnell If there isnt ring no one can activate the crystal until someone worthy like the first king is accepted. That or sone other randon guy wants to collect the 6 crystals.
It is Noctis lucis Caelum, think of it, the facts are at hand, how should noctis have the ability of summoning Armiger weapons just like ardyn? Armiger is a bloodline gift, also if anyone did play it with german subs, if you had payed attention while watching the paintings of the Prophecy you can read that Gladio is saying he could not believe how someone like Ardyn is a Member of the Royal Family, because of Noctis mentioning that Ardyn should have also bee on that painting. So i think izunia may be his little brother, that after ardyn was rejected from the Astrals and crystal because of his tainted soul after becoming Immortal, was choosen from the Astrals to safeguard him until the arrival of the promised true King, and not taking the Throne out of jealousy like Ardyn said to Noctis
Mr. NiceGuy sound logic with solid evidence, but could it also be a fact that Ardyn was absorbed into the ring as well because ALL of the lucius caelum's were required to purge the starscourge?
they werent... the royal line was only charged with defending the crystal until the day of the chosen king which they did which is also why regis let the city fall an crystal be taken... because at that point it was more important to defend noctis than the crystal. only the chosen king was charged with banishing the darkness
To be honest, I never even considered the possibility that the first king was anything other than Ardyn's brother. That's really the only way his anger makes sense. He wasn't just cast out by society and an imposter, he was cast out by his family. That type of betrayal is probably the hardest to get over. Then having to watch his brother take all the glory that should have been his, watch his nephews take the glory that should have been his sons', it is no wonder he has such hatred for his brother's bloodline. I never would have come up with the imposter theory had I not heard other people talking about it.
I'm upset that we had barely any hints to Ardyn's origin till near the end of the game. Square should've did a better job of portraying his backstory in someway before the villain reveal, they hardly even mentioned the story of a character who once had healing powers that fell to the dark until after Ardyn already revealed he was an immortal daemon.
Actually that part is showned kind of the same way that dark souls does it, you have to read the small story hints on the cosmos books that are around the map ith stories about the astrals, the oracle and everyting else
I honestly think they did this purposely, Square Enix is smart, they don't just do things like that for the hell of it (most of the time anyway) they left it to what we could find and speculate ourselves. Which to me is a nice way to switch things up from the games telling us everything about everyone.
ardyn said in the end something like he would be forgotten again. the people simply forgot ardyn and his true powers, that he took a great deal of deamons inside of him and became immortal in the process.
TheSentiment16 What confuses me is that Ardyn was never mentioned again as the first king nor the hero after he was branded as a deamon. We have to assume that no one in the present knows about his true Identity, and the people who would know best (The last king and those before him) are dead. It's more like he wants to be forgotten, and for his suffering as an Immortal to end. All in all, this game basically gave more reason as to why I don't want to be immortal.
Actually when Ardyn talked about Gentiana's face was it was about the day she died. They censored that in English for no apparent reason. And Ardyn Lucis Caelum was his "formal name" according to the Japanese dub. Meaning that Lucis Caelum is a title not a proper family name. He also said he did not remember where he took Izunia from but it might be a reference to the word "iizuna", a weasel in Japanese. Quite fitting.
Someone wrote it on other TH-cam video "Ardyn say that to her." that shiva did died before, even when I play the game again it sound just like the word "Died" to me. just how I hear it.
I have the collectors edition walkthrough guide and there's a timeline of events at the back. It says that about a year after Niflheim attacked Tenebrae (when Noctis was there as a kid), and I quote, "Shiva, one of the six Astrals, awakens. She is defeated by the Niflheim empire". Doesn't explicitly say she was killed, but take that as you will.
she was defeated but not killed. just as she was defeated again in modern time which is why the ice cloud suddenly appears. you need to bare in mind astrals are not purely confined to a physical body so i think dying only means it takes time for them to return. otherwise titan & levi when they died wouldnt have been able to be summoned with the blessing. also look at the animation for shiva summon... unlike the other astrals she chose to maintain many smaller form rather than a large one
So, after Episode Ardyn DLC we can actually confirm that the theory of "Noctis Izunia" is a false claim. Lucis Caelum is a Royal Family name, and Ardyn's brother's name was Somnus Lucis Caelum. So who's Izunia? Episode Ignis has a line from Ardyn that is mistranslated context-wise, but roughly in japanese translates to "You'll never guess what Izunia is", pretty much meaning that it was just a makeup name just like "Adagium" moniker for Ardyn.
So kind of a long theory but what if Ardyn was the King of Solheim (translation: "Home of the Sun"). The Starscourge of course is the darkness that brings about the demons. However, if we look at it metaphorically, this is the process of where the "sun" is literally setting. So we see that in this process the God's bestowed Ardyn (who if we look at the latin meaning of Ardin = "Fiery") with the ring of the lucii (or the "ring of light" to the lucis caelum or "enlightened sky/heavens" lineage). The ring of course has the power to absorb light from organisms. We know this because the ring's power in the game is "death" which is basically the skill that absorbs an enemies life force and heals the wielder. And also Bahamut basically says you need to absorb the entire light of the crystal (i.e. its soul). Ardyn, was both Oracle and King (which is perhaps why he also has the trident in his royal arms - maybe this was his weapon which Shiva bestows on us). But as we know, Ardyn absorbed too much evil and basically went mad. He says though that it was a "jealous king," Izunia, who basically turned him into a deamon. This person was fickle that he wasn't chosen by the Crystal to be its bearer of light and basically turned Ardyn into an actual deamon. And so Ardyn Lucis Caelum became Ardyn Izunia (Izunia = Oath), or a "Fiery Oath". We know that Shiva = Gentiana, which also means "Healing flower." Which makes a lot of sense then if we look at it metaphorically. Shiva gave the house of fleuret (flowers) in the land of tenebrae ("shadows/darkness") the power to prevent darkness from completely enveloping the land. But NOT returning light to eos (the "Dawn"). What prevents the darkness from completely enveloping the night? - The moon! (LUNA). So when Luna dies. We see the acceleration to the whole "darkest before the dawn analogy." NOT necessarily before Gaia or Ramuh disappears. The fact that Shiva is still around and night is still there provides sufficient proof to the idea that the Gods were preventing the darkness. (What the Gods do represent -> Gaia = Earth, Ramuh = Sky, Leviathan = Seas, Bahamut = Sun, Shiva = Moon, Crystal = soul of Eos, or soul of the "dawn" or beginning of life itself, Ifrit = A total dick). And perhaps why Luna was dying rather than becoming evil was because she had the ability to use the light inside of herself to purge demons from people with her actual life force. But the oracles in general would be those that symbolize the house of "night flowers" (or a poetic way to say the "moon") from Tenebrae (or darkness). Also, Nadir also means, "observer/zenith," which we might assume is referring to bahamut who "descended from the stars" to give the crystal. And what if the whole "archean's call soliloquy" by Ardyn was actually him saying how he didn't listen to Titan telling him of Ifrit's plan....what if Ifrit is actually Izunia, and Ardyn simply called himself Ardyn Izunia because he was slave to the spite of Ifrit. Prompto and gang make reference to the fact that its simply been spite that's been keeping Ardyn going this whole time. Essentially the Usurper fucked the Gods plan to give the King the ability to banish the darkness and they have now the Usurper and the Immortal Accursed. What keeps bugging me is the "Omen" trailer that isn't "satisfied." Almost like he's talking to the soul of Ardyn. Which would make sense. What if the Lucis lineage were all those who could never "rest." They were all cursed with "Insomnia." Forced to bear the darkness within themselves, giving up countless lives for the King that would end it all to defeat Ifrit and his Accursed servant. What if this was the curse of ALL lucis kings? That they defeat a great darkness only to have Ardyn ask in the end "So what will you do? Banish me and bring peace?" And instead of the typical "It's not me who was chosen" and the cycle just repeats itself until you have the King of Night allow Ardyn to "rest in peace, forevermore" just as the prophecy Luna mentions before she was killed ("all those enthralled in darkenss shall know peace") as well as his forefather's, essentially being the "cure for insomnia," (no more ring, no more guarding crystals, etc). Which is why at the end you see Luna and Noctis actually SLEEPING.
This is great. I think a big part of Ardyn's plan is also that he wanted to die. He was immortal who was alive for far too long and he knew that only the true king had the ability the kill him that's why given his many chances to kill Noctis, he chooses not to and waits until he became the true king. Either way, the story ended with Ardyn winning. He wanted revenge on the Astrals, he wanted to end the Lucis Caelum bloodline, and he wanted to die.
Actually I don't think Ardyn achieved his full goal. He did come close though. Remember his anger wasn't just toward the Lucis family line, but also the gods who turned their backs on him. He wanted revenge on them as well. It seemed to me at the end of the game that he was getting ready to return to the world of the living after Noctis has sacrificed himself. This is why he's bowing to Noctis at the end as though he's about to take his leave and then starts to turn his back to him. It's also why he's shocked when Noctis begins his counter attack. Ardyn wasn't ready for it. He thought he would wait for Noctis to die and then return like always to rule on his throne once more. Only this time there would be no King of Light to stop him. That would have been his ultimate victory. Noctis would have sacrificed himself believing he had just saved the world and fulfilled the will of the gods, only for Ardyn to come right back and once again trap the world in eternal darkness. The prophesy would have been undone and the gods along with the line of Lucis would have been totally defeated. Ardyn would have reclaimed his throne and ruled the world of darkness for all eternity. Unfortunately for Ardyn, things didn't quite work out the way he hoped. Noctis and the former Kings still managed to overcome him in the end.
Wrong. Noctis' family couldn't have been pretenders to the throne. Why? Because, if they had been, Noctis wouldn't have been able to wear his father's ring. Everyone who tried, that wasn't a member of his bloodline, died...Instantly. Hell, the only person who used its power, even for the briefest of moments, was that Crownsguard guy who went before the ancient kings, and entreated them for use of their powers. And even *He* died, when the fighting was done, and the kings took their power, along with the ring, away from him. There was no begging for Noctis. He simply found his way to his ancestors' tombs, waved his hand over them, and Presto!...Mythical Weapons. Not to mention the fact that, when Noctis finally rejoins the world after the demons have taken over, he looks just like his father.
Shawnee Longbow you mean Nyx, who was of the kingsglaive, not the crownsguard, and he had a chance to gain the rings power /permanantly/ but he was required to sacrifice his best friend or Luna, and he vehemently refused to, to the point of outright insulting the lucii, but upon regis entreating them, they offered a second deal, where his life was the price
That's not how I remember it. In the movie I saw, the old kings told him that they'd lend him their power to fight off the Nifs, but he would die at the dawn of the next day. But yeah, he _did_ have a rather flippant attitude about the whole situation. Which I found hilarious.
After finishing the game I just assumed the bloodline the crystal considered the "official certified Chosen Ones" simply changed. Who's to say Bahamut wouldn't be able to do that?
The crystal chose Ardyn and he rid people of the plague, becoming a daemon himself. "Izunia" shows up, and goes, "you, this guy is bad now" so the Hexathean punish him with eternal life and "Izunia" becomes chosen. Ardyn then broods for the next however many years. "Izunia", if thats the other guys name, no proof, is more than likely RELATED to Ardyn. Ardyn, Regis, and Noct can all use the Armiger, Noct only AFTER acquiring weapons of his ANCESTORS. Meaning it's most likely a blood-line deal. I feel like there is way too much reading into this being done.
My guess is that scene at the camp site was their last camp out together before the end. I think it symbolizes how Noctis' sacrifice was sinking in for him and his friends ahead of time. This was a very good video and it helped fill in the blanks with Ardyn big time.
They could totally make a prequel to FFXV that follows Ardyn's fall into corruption. You start off weak and get stronger by absorbing deamons until the end when you have to fight the Astrals in the Great Old War.
Lord Sin "continue the story" we have to figure out what does it mean. Is he going to give us a happy ending ? Because it is needed. And also Lunafreya should not die, we know nothing about her. And her death was so anticlimactic, I felt nothing
The true beautiful games of this series were FF VII and FF X and X II. But i haven't played Type 0 yet, though I heard that all main characters die or something like that. Tabata also directed it ? If so I'm not surprised he killed all his main protagonists
As long as it's part of the game via expansion without any spin off bullshit then it's fine. I don't want this to ended up like FFVII with bunch of crap spin off that added more bullshit over something simple.
Lord Sin I know, what I mean is that as long as the extra story is added to the game itself is fine. I don't want Square make a completely separate game like Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus just to expand the overall story.
when he said "the face you wore the day you..." i always assumed he meant the day you died, when shiva came back in her colossal form and the empire killed her over the desert.
Maybe it's because I'm late to the game, only having played it now, but isn't all of Ardyn's backstory already clear? He was supposed to be the King of Light. He healed the people infected with starscourge and absorbed the scourge into his body and thus, because his body was tainted, was rejected by the crystal. In his stead, his brother Somnus Lucis Caelum became king and continued the bloodline until Noctis was born. Ardyn became corrupted because of that and, as the "avatar" of the scourge, so to speak, became the one thing Noctis had to destroy. There is no single mention of someone else called Izunia, at least not that I can remember. If Ardyn had not been tainted by the scourge, he would be the king of light, and he would use his power to purge the scourge. The only difference is that during Noctis' time there was someone who "embodied" it. TL;DR: Izunia is just A RANDOM NAME that Ardyn took or came up with.
I had just played the game without looking at any theories, and this is what I was saying to myself while watching this video; if you look in the Dossiers, it's quite clearly this. Maybe these were added in a later patch?
You saved me 12 minutes! I played it a week ago and now it's clear. Thanks. Also wanted to know why Noctis had to die but I guess I just couldn't accept it :_
Before they were Lucis Caelum, Izunia was their surname. It only changed when the astrals, no, Bahamut granted them the Crystal saying that the Lucis Caelum surname befits them more as they ascended into royalty.
Your missing a few things: Basically when they die their souls go to the Astral Plain. Arden needed destroying in both the Human plain, then his true power (soul) needed destroying in the Astral plain. When Luna dies she goes to the Astral realm and Noctis temporarily joins her (i think his whole DREAM power that got completely left out of the story would've explained this)..and she gave him the Lucis Ring. Noctis is the only one powerful enough to absorb the crystals light without being harmed. That is the whole set up for the story. Thats why Noctis has the ring, so he can absorb all the power of the crystal into the ring. Then he can absorb all of the kings into the ring, then he sacrifices himself so that when he dies, he goes to the Astral plain wearing the ring. So basically he allowed the Ring/Kings/Crystal power to cross over to the Other side and destroy Ardens soul once and for all.
I agree on all points, but the tight concept of an astral plain means one thing. The brothers died. If as you say Regis had to strike his son down to allow him to defear Ardyn once and for all on the other side, that implies death is the only way to get there. Though of course Noctis went there not in death. But as you say they could be Noctis' EXCLUSIVE power to enter the realm via his dreams. Nothing says the bros can do the same so they must be dead?
Final Fantasy Peasant No they are in fact living, they must be. Noctis saw them off saying he left the rest to them and for them to walk tall, there's no need for them to have died unless it was old age but even then everyone doesn't reach the astral plane, it seems very different than the average afterlife. I believe what we saw at the end was a what if sort of deal "what if the two did get married and lived happily ever after" or it's simply Noctis' own personal afterlife in which they were created. Noctis' heaven
well we do see at the end the brothers could have died. he says i leave it to you and walks off as the brothers very ready to fight and hold off all those giant daemons so Noct has time to do what needs to be done. then at the point when we see them again they very certainly could have died fighting or it's just that there spirit is with him in the final fight. either way. that's what good stories do, leave it up to the fans to decide what they like best.
But yer, remember when the game was first revealed and they said Noctis could see the expired souls of the dead because he had a near death experience himself. So I think when the Lamia killed Noctis as a child it gave him the gift of traveling to the Astral realm via his dreams.
I think he helped Noctis, for 2 reasons, to take down the chosen, eidolons, and his ancestors all at once, OR to make sure Noctis was powerful enough to give Ardyn himself eternal peace by death
"As strong as Sephiroth" I mean, unless I missed a cutscene where Ardyn destroyed an entire solar system, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one. Still an intriguing video overall though.
Ardyn is one of the best villains in game history. He got what he wanted even at the cost of his own death which he DGAF about. Great job square enix! Also will Gladiolus take the Throne since he's more closer to royalty?
phatbot210 we actually don't know shit about that, as they are fightning daemons once the fight with ardyn is over and noctis go do his thing on the throne...
+Baptiste “Talus” Clavié trust me notics sacrifice himself to defeat arydn then his friends died fighting the DEMONS so noctis could do his thing. in the end they all died
This cleared up a lot of the ending, thanks! While I did get some of it by playing this filled in many gaps. One thing though is I got the impression that he also wanted to die, that he was over having this darkness in him and living forever which is part of the reason why he helped Noctis. Also Caius from FF13-2 is my favorite villain, he pretty much tells you his plan from the start and you try to stop him only to help him. He succeeds in his plan as well!
Ardyn Lucis Caelum is officially the start of the Lucis Caelum bloodline and Noctis Lucis Caelum is the end of the bloodline (Meaning that it was Ardyn's son that betrayed him or Grandson). Square Enix has released a official family tree. It is in the Collecters edition strategy guidebook. Not sure about the standard version. With a straight line to Reigus and Noctis. Even Noctis Mother is pictured. With all the links if you get things mixed up. Read the guidebook it explains the both families linage and alliances. connects to A Kings Tail Final Fantasy XV also.
Thanks for the insight on Ardyn! I looked a bit more into it... from what I found, when Ardyn says "Guess who the real Izunia is", apparently there is a translation error and he says something along the lines of "How did I think of Izunia"... Izunia also comes from the Japanese word iizuna which means weasel. So I mean, either way, he could even just be making a jab at Noctis saying he was the real weasel for taking the title of King instead of Ardyn. This all makes more sense with your theory of Ardyn and Noctis being in the same bloodline.
It has to be Noctis Lucis Caelum because the crystal was bestowed to the 1st king(Ardyn) and the ring to his bloodline. Noctis and his ancestors would not have been able to wield the ring if they weren't of Ardyn's line.
Well the thing is thats not quite true. It's not the ring itself that rejects the person, its the Lucii. Before this point there were no Lucii and no council to pass judgement. If it was true that the crystal decides who can wear the ring then Izunia would have burned because it says "the king was not annointed by the crystal". Therefore the possibility that Izunia stole it, was cursed to become a Lucii because of it and the Lucii formed a council to deny others taking what they had stolen is possible. BUT none of those kings were ever TRULY accepted by the crystal, hence why Noctis is the only one to ever be chosen
Final Fantasy Peasant One would have to be of royal blood to wear the ring. As we seen with nyx in kingsglaive. It's most likely that you guys are looking to deep into this. As for the video, it has way too many "What ifs and maybes" to be called an explanation video.
The ring was made to accept the person by the astrals will, basically. Put it this way...the ring is a device that can only be used by anyone having a certain pre-programmed blood signature. The ring creator, the astrals, can then change the programming to accept Izunia once they deem Ardyn a mistake.
he dd a great job, but honestly i think his english Va killed it better due to the way they transition his voice from flamboyant and jesterlike to the more demented and vengeful ardyn in the 2nd half
jsh020 I think Fujiwara did a perfect job at conveying that too though, in chapter 13 he was very creepy and menacing as well as in the end of the game. I am not saying the English VA didn't kill it, but yeah.
Me: **Blames the game for being so confusing and having to watch a movie and an anime to get what's going on.** Also me: **Never read any of the Cosmogony books.**
A game ending should be the one that opens-up discussions, and makes people remember the game just beyond playing it, instead of simply handing everything on a silver-platter closing any room for discussion.
Yes, discussion, not confusion. You can make a story comprehendable, more than this, and make it discuss able. I find this story amazing, but i would think that better clarification would have made it better overall. If i didnt watch this video, i might have never pieced it together. Luckily, im a huge fan. If i knew nothing of thr peasant, this games story would be lost to me for a long time, perhaps always. I think thats a directors issue. The game could have been less confusing.
Yeah except the problem is, i was super close to beating X before this game dropped and i feel that THAT game was more coherent and frankly finished than this game. I kniw what happened, no matter how wierd it was, and i knew i what i had to do even if i didnt know everything. Thing is it was explained eventually and discovered. This game passes things off too subtly and casually. It doesnt communicate as well. Just looking at that game and this game, the former eventually made more sense. 15, made me have to go somewhere else to learn more.
I never got the feeling that Ardyn was a bad guy throughout the story. He always had reasons for what he did. I thought Ardyns immortality was connected to his bloodline. I got the feeling that in order to release Ardyn and end the star scourge which had binded to Ardyn , Noctus had to choose self sacrifice which would also save the world; rather than rule as an all powerful king as past kings had chosen. I get the feeling Ardyn kills Luna to prevent the cycle (his fate) from happening again to someone else. I don't think he ever wanted revenge, I think he wanted end the star scourge and to die. While also preventing what happened to him from happening again to someone else.
Hey peasant. I have a FF topic that has always been on my mind. Regarding sephiroth in final fantasy 7. This insanity was triggered by discovering his true origin while exploring the library in the Shinra mansion. He was reading "the jenova project" and was horrified that he, himself was a monster. But does that mean he knows the whole truth? did he ever truly find out that he was the child of Hojo and Lucretcia? OR did he only know that he was an experiment made from Jenova cells? did he ever know the whole truth? if so, why would he continue to call Jenova his mother? it seems to me, that if he knew that he was, in fact human and not a monster OR an ancient; then he wouldn't have gone insane. btw sephiroth is my favorite final fantasy character ever so I would LOVE a video about this
After he fell into the Lifestream/Mako Reactor above Nibelheim he gained massive knowledge about the World, so I would imagine he DID know about all that, but only AFTER he fell in the Mako Reactor. I don't remember Sephiroth still calling Jenova his Mother after he falls in the Mako Reactor, in fact, he uses Jenova's power to get what HE wants. He essentially gets a "God complex," and wants to rule, and uses Jenova to try and achieve this. I would love if peasant could make a video on this as well. He could probably explain it a lot better than I can.
Wow, I've never thought about it like that! ^^; I would definitely like an in-depth analysis of Sephiroth's mind - that could be a half-hour video on its own ^o^
Hey Kelly, is is a great topic to discuss! Thing is Sephiroth WANTED to believe he was special and at the end of it all, he never fully says he knows who Lucrecia is. But realistically he must. Through his Jenova cells and the fact he knows Hojo is his father, logically Seph could figure out his mother may have been human. Thing with Sephiroth is I dont believe he wants to know. After he gets twisted by the lifestream his god complex takes over his logic majorly. Thats what I think anyway :D A vid on it could be cool =)
FFP, new subber here and I gotta thank you for this video explaining and theorizing on FFXV's ending. It helped close so many doors and questions that I'd had about the game. While I did enjoy it a lot, there was a good bit of the tale lost for me through my time with it, and I missed a lot of the subtext and story in the game while having a base understanding of most of the events, i.e. (part of) Ardyn's motivations, Noctis' sacrifice, and his true purpose, but hardly anything else you covered in this video. I felt that a lot of the things were poorly translated through the game's own dialog, and I may be alone in that, but either way this video helped me understand a lot about FFVX and how truly great of a title it is in the FF Mythos, which even before this video I held it in high regard. I've been wanting to replay it again to see what I missed and you've increased that desire with this and your other helpful explanations. Don't know if you'll ever read this comment, but you have my sincere thanks and a new sub, good sir. Thanks again!
Your whole theory is WRONG. Here is why - You can't steal the Lucis family name or the ring. Watch Kingsglaive, two unworthy people try to wear the ring, they get rejected and burned because the are unworthy and not family. Then Nyx tries to wear it, even though he is worthy, the Kings still reject him and instead offer him one day of use, which will cost his life the next morning. So it is literally IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to steal the Lucis ring or family name. Ardyn and Noctis are both related, they are both from the Lucis Caellum line. Noctis is not Izunia. Also, Ardyn says whatever he says about what happened to him. Take it with a grain of salt dude. We don't know the full story. He was "helping" people by absorbing demons into his own body. How do you know he didn't have an ulterior evil motive for doing that? Even if his intentions were purely good, absorbing demons into your body has to have some kind of ill affect, even an unintended one. Maybe the King at that time was right to persecute against Ardyn, maybe there was a good reason. Lastly, Ardyn is hundreds, maybe even thousands of years old, but he is NOT the first King. He didn't even complete his ascension, he was rejected by the crystal before he could do that because of his demon absorbing and there was already a Lucis King at that time. If Ardyn is the first King, how could there already be a King before Ardyn even begins his ascension? Ardyn is old, but he is NOT the first King. Also, the first King was ACCEPTED/REWARDED by the Astrals and the crystal, NOT rejected. Ardyn was rejected. They are two different people.
This isn't my theory, this is what is being discussed online. Thats point 1. Point 2 is you are actually wrong. The ring does not reject ANYONE. The crystal does not reject ANYONE. It is the Lucii council who do it! If they had decided ravus could wear it just like nyx he could have. So let's clear this up. A bloodline of people who are NOT chosen by the crystal (hence why noctis is the first after Ardyn), protect and pass judgement over the who wears the ring. While I stated clearly I believe he is still a Lucis Caelum, you are wrong in saying it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to be unchosen imposters. Its actually very very possible youve just got confused on who passes judgment, a pretty big factual error bruh
Final Fantasy Peasant Never said the ring rejects anyone, clearly wrote the Kings do the rejecting when the wrong people try to wear the ring. First paragraph. Read again. "Rejected by the Crystal" is an actual quote from the game, that's why I wrote it like that, I know it's the Astrals and the council of Kings who decide who is worthy or not. In the case of Nyx, I clearly said that despite him actually being worthy, the Kings still rejected him but allowed him to wear the ring for one day but told him it would cost him his life. So anyone not from the Royal Bloodline cannot wield the full power of the ring, they will die almost immediately. This is further confimed by Regis when he says the Ring draws from the life force of the wearer to provide them power. Clearly someone not of the Royal line cannot withstand this. Only the Lucis Caellum family can and even they get weaker, as the years pass. Again all confitmed by Regis.
no not confirmed by Regis. When Regis talks about the ring draws from the life force that is what the ring does to both worth and unworthy holders. The ring ages you, thats nothing to do with selection. But everything you say about 'its not possible for someone else to wear the ring' is just not true. We have PROOF that the ring only burns people through the decision of the Lucii, not the ring itself. Therefore the question is, if there were no Lucii, what proof do you have the ring would burn someone ever? We don't. Hence when Izunia took the ring it was at a time there WERE NO Lucii. He was a jelous king unchosen by the crystal yet he was still able to use the crystals magic. Any notion the ring rejects unworthy wearers just is not backed up by a shred of evidence in the game or movie. Regis quote doesnt support the idea either.
Final Fantasy Peasant That's a pretty big leap of speculation on your part. Yes, Regis does confirm his life force draining as a cost of using the ring. Anyway, not trying to argue, just giving you the facts. What we know from Kingsglaive is that even when someone worthy, like Nyx, takes the ring, their life force is drained within a day, that's the cost someone who is not from the Lucis Caellum family line has to pay. They literally show us this. That's proof enough. So it would be impossible for any non-Lucis, even a worthy one, to wear it more than a day, let alone steal the whole family line.
well the pretty big leap in speculation is right there. We dont know that Nyx lost his life through being drained by the ring the same as Regis. In fact that seems entirely wrong. Nyx dies because the sun comes up, a sideeffect clearly unrelated to Regis' aging by holding up the barrier. Nyx body literally reacts to the sun and causes him to disintegrate. Which is interesting because we also hear daemons cant be in sunlight. On the flip side because despite how it sounds I DO believe Noctis is a Caelum. Noctis gets the same sideffect of his body burning up like Nyx, but then he just seems to heal from it. So there is supporting evidence there that a Caelum can instantly recover from that burning up effect of overcharging the use of the crystals magic. But again, that seems to be a seperate side effect then the aging as it happens to noctis instantly and then he heals.
Unless I missed something, the fact that Noctis' family uses the royal arms as Ardyn does strongly indicates that Izunia was Izunia Lucis Caelum by blood. If not, how do you explain the usurpers gaining abilities (royal arms, magic, elemancy) exclusive to the Lucii bloodline? They might've taken the throne but the abilities? We'd have to stretch pretty far to believe that instead of believing that Izunia was a blood relative. That said, I don't believe Ardyn was ever king! He calls Izunia a "jealous king not chosen by the crystal" which means Izunia was already king during Ardyn's time. I believe Izunia was Prince Ardyn's father. I also don't believe Ardyn to be a reliable historian regarding his past. I'm not convinced his father DID betray him - not the way Ardyn remembers it. Rather, Ardyn became incredibly corrupt (emotionally, mentally, spiritually, etc.) and his father reacted to that corruption as did the gods by rejecting him. Bahamut's telling of events seems to imply this instead of the victim narrative that Ardyn believes in. And this also seems to mesh well with King Regis' omen about who Noctis might become as the Chosen.
Also, in regards to the idea that Ardyn was the first Lucis Caelum and Izunia stole the throne, this wouldn't have been 13 kings ago...it would've been 113 kings ago. King Regis was the 113th King of Lucis. It seems to me that Ardyn wasn't the first Lucis king; he was the first Chosen king, the first King of kings, but he ended up being rejected and Noctis became the second choice. Ardyn actually remarks on this during their fight, mocking Noctis as the second choice.
Here's how, Izunia stole the royal arms from Ardyn. As simple as that. Ardyn was chosen by gods/astrals, so it's within the power of those gods/astrals to chose another different human into the role, replacing Ardyn. It's very logical for Izunia to then stole Ardyn's family name and royal arms, to make it easier for people to accept him as the new hero, despite Ardyn great deed on saving human kind from Daemon corruption. It's also within a likelihood that Izunia was not just stealing, but downright posing as Ardyn. The name of the hero on the history was called Lucii, never known on their first name basis. This shows the possibility that what people know is Luciis Caelum the hero, not Ardyn Luciis Caelum. If we assume the possibility that people never saw Ardyn themselves, or if Ardyn and Izunia have a striking resemblance despite not being a relative, it's very possible for Izunia to assume the name Luciis Caelum and called Ardyn as Izunia. This can only be done with the astrals blessings, which we can see from the game, it can be gain and lose.
Noctis is really a Luciis Caelum, because he's born with that name. So does Regis and most of their ancestors. The first ancestor not being a real Luciis Caelum doesn't change that Regis and Noctis are Luciis Caelum...just not one related with the first original Luciis Caelum. Secondly, the sure name could just be a gift from the astrals...as the name of any bloodline that's chosen by them to be hero and royal.
I never really thought about the fact that Adyn dud indeed reach his goal for the Lucis Caelum line did not survive by ending Luna and sacrificing Noct. dang, good videos
So my thoughts on the name question? I believe that Izunia was a given name rather than a surname. Not only does this theory add more weight to Ardyns's revenge plot, but it also makes more sense. at least to me. the way I see it, only those born in the Lucis Caelum bloodline have the ability to conjure weapons and blade warp. Ardyn being a L.C. is able to do so. Regis and Noctis are able to do so. It could be argued that the entire party can do so, and that the Kingsglaive could as well to an extent. But we know that the Kingsglaive received their power from Regis, and when he died, so too did their power. the reason Nyx needed the ring. I speculate that the only reason Gladio and gang can do so is due to Noctis. possibly a way that they knew he was still alive even after his 10 year absence. this explains a few different things that were never touched on in game. and just makes far too much sense to me the more I think on it
clarus also said in kingsglaive that the council's magic is bound to regis. so it is plausible that noctis's party magic is bound to noctis himself and not regis.
That's very likely as the healing items say that they heal by the way of Nocts powers like potions are just energy drinks but Nocts powers make them heal
Shining Lion gladio and the others have weapon summoning abilities but they depend on noctis it is the same with king regis and the kingsglaive when noctis power was sealed they also couldn't use th eir weapon
Come on, Pes! You spent half of the video trying to explain Ardyn's motivations, that's not an open ended question, it's a plot hole. I really enjoyed the game, but the story was poorly written.
no i didn't. Ardyns motives are crystal clear, vengeance for the ones who betrayed him. I actually spent half the video discussing whether Izunia was a true king or an imposter. Good games leave open ended points to fuel and leave continued discussion. Whether Izunia was a relative or not is not a plot hole, just an interesting topic to discuss.
A good plot doesn't need to be explained, let alone in a 20 min video. You can explain and discuss your interpretation of the story and it's meaning which wasn't the case here. Pes was mainly trying to explain plot holes like that whole Ifrit stuff for example.
No, it wasn't the case here. You can explain and discuss an ending, the moral of the story. In here, he was objectively trying to explain WHY Ardyn was doing what he was doing, if the story didn't tell you that CLEARLY, it's a plot hole and bad writing. This is not Donnie Darko where you have multiple kinds of interpretation, this is a villain whose motives were kinda obscure and never really explained. "There are details in the game that allude to this" It supposed to be a story, not a puzzle to be deciphered. This game have 3 plots merged into 1. You have Luna and Noctis "love" story (never happened), You have the empire (they did absolute nothing relevant) and the bros friendship, only thing that kinda worked.
So, there's one thing I don't get: what happened to the emperor? He was introduced as and expected to be the central villain, but then Ardyn took over that role. I think it showed him in Gralea, but idk for sure. Hoping it'll be expanded upon in the Chapter 13 DLC. Also, you think they'll make a Chapter 14 DLC? That Chapter had so much potential with the whole World of Ruin thing and they blew it.
I don't recall anyone sitting on the throne. Throughout Chapter 13 you kept coming across piles of clothing. In fact, that was how you procured the keycard to access the facility, was getting it off a pile of military fatigues. But when you found your way to the throne, it was just the empty robes. As you ascended, there were many reports you could have interacted with that began detailing the backstory of the Magitek Troopers being experiments, led by Ardyn. TL;DR--Human subjects were transmuted into daemons, who were then imbued into the MT clockwork bodies, where they could be controlled. It was later that you found out the Diabolos daemon (or at least he looked a lot like Diabolos, it's been a while) you weren't able to kill, that was tormenting your ascent, turned out to be the emperor, who even managed to mutter some of the motivations of the emperor during the fight when you finally were able to put him down.
after watching this it made me realize how amazing the story actually is, and how much of a miss the story telling was. If we could play ardyn flash back 2000 years ago and explain things more in his amazing revenge, it would have been so good.
Izunia was a lucias, only the lucii were able to use the crystals power. I highly doubt if some jelous king screws over the rightful king that the astrals and the crystal would just be like...hmm lets give it to this guy. No, Izunia was the first name, most likely a brother, father, or son.
you say that but thats exactly what happens. 'A king not chosen by the crystal'. Either way Izunia was not chosen but could still use the crystals power. Anyone can use the crystals power. The crystal does not discriminate who it empowers.
Final Fantasy Peasant not really, izzunia was still a Lucias, so he was still about the chosen family chosen to guard the crystal. Izzunia just happened to be their second pick from the chosen family
It's probably more along the lines of a translation error. The original Japanese dub statement is more along the lines of "I don't know where I came up with that name" than "You'll never guess who Izunia was"
I wonder if you ever carefully followed the game, advertisements and other media provided for the universe... "only the king CHOSEN BY THE CRYSTAL will be able to save the world." also it is always stated that the lucis only are able to use the powers from the crystal bcs it's their bloodline. but the actual catalysator which provides them their powers is the confirmment of the ring (kingsglaive + small selfmade estimate) aka the 13 previous kings.
There is nobody named Izunia. The English translation took too many liberties and spawned this false theory. In Japanese (and German) Ardyn says he doesn't remember where he got the name Izunia from, and when he wonders this out loud, it doesn't sound sinister like it does in English ("You'll never guess where I got the name from") but more as a matter of fact, as in you can't guess where Izunia came from because he doesn't know either. Personally, I think it's Japanese wordplay that doesn't translate well. Izunia sounds very similar to _iizuna_ which is the Japanese word for a weasel, which is basically what Ardyn is, personality-wise.
That's what I've heard as well, and it drives me crazy that people focus SO MUCH on the line about "who Izunia was" when it's just unfortunately vague wording from the English translation. It's also really annoying to look through old fan theories because so many people thought "Ardyn's brother is Izunia" when we now know (from Episode Ignis, I believe?) that Ardyn's brother and the first king was Somnus.
Dark hound22 I’m watching old videos to try and figure that out, I feel pretty complete with the game I don’t think that anything is missing. But I did get the 3 other episodes so when I play that I know his has different endings. I know there is extra cut scenes
Sorry to correct you...but at 2:34 Ardyn refers to the day Shiva died not the event on the book cover. The other languages are pretty consistent here. Great video, helped me a lot to get an overview.
But...dont want to be rude...but did she died ? Like her giant form died but she still remained. And also how would that made sense..her giant form is clearly the same we see in the summon or when she transforms...It wouldnt make sense for her having this human ish apperiance as giant.. so the only left opportunity is as he explained the day he got his powers granted. You could say she tried to seek refugee in the human form and hide from ardyn before she got "killed" but that is nowhere close mentioned at any point..so
11:25 I kinda disagree that Ardyn's *only* goal is vengeance. I think he's set it up as a win/win. Either he gets his vengeance, which is great, or he gets his death, which is also great.
No I disagree. Arydn got what he wanted. Noctis is Vanished. with the crystal gone in the Ring an the Ring vanished in the end. An the Demeans are still out in the world. the wedding is happening when they sleep in the after life.
Ryan Murphy The daemons aren't out in the world anymore, though, because Noct's death brought about the end of the plague and the return of the day/night cycle. Otherwise, though, we agree. Ardyn got literally everything he wanted, including his death.
Ardyns only motive was vengeance. As you say if he got vengeance and died, he was happy. If he got vengeance and ruled over the ruined world alongside ifrit, he was also happy. The only scenario Ardyn would not have been happy in is if he didnt get revenge.
The ending is so dark yet I feel like it's the best ending possible in this situation.. better than this would have been the god ressurecting Noctis,Luna,Prompto,Ignis and Gladiolus because they ended the Ardyn ''curse''. Idk maybe happy ending dlc? maybe it did happen considering that we see Luna and Noct at the end? or maybe it was just them both in the after life being together.. so many maybes lol They did confirmed more dlc recently so we'll see. That game really is a unique experience and I love it!
Marc M Gladio, Prompto and Ignis did not die... I don't understand why people think they died. The camp scene was before going to Insomnia... and the scene at the crystal they were there as people who helped and are important to Noctis, but they were there in "spirit".
The thing is, we don't know if they did die or what. But I agree that "until more information is provided", imo, they're not dead (while noctis is, and maybe they'll resurrect him afterwards, as this is what square enix does since FF10 : resurrecting dead people)
@@lucifermorningstar3506 omg yes but they only can wield it to protect the king or kingdom but with sacrifice. Noctis cant be izunia and ardyn used the name to hide his identity. They both use royal arms along with every fucking kind of lucis. Im surprised nobody can understand something so fucking simple. Izunia is an imperial name therefore great cover for a prominent man of lucis. Due to his old age he isnt known well but all of lucis knows the stories. The empire took ardyn and convinced him to help them to do so he had to hide his real name....
Well I dont know about them fucking over Ardyn. If its true that Ardyn is the first "True King of the light", there's no one to really reject him nor him needing to ask permission from any Lucii king from the ring because again he's the "first". Also, the final battle obviously tells us he still has lucii powers because he clearly had all of the Royal arms and ring of lucii powers just like Noctis. I guess thats up for a good debate, why and how the hell does Ardyn have the same power as Noctis in their final battle, perks of being the first i guess?
I'm so sad because many people have not understood the fate of Prompto Ignis and Gladio. Everybody dies because of the monsters that spawns behind them, and, after Noctis's death, they are no longer able to use magic. In addition, we meet again in the afterlife together. Really, I wonder how Tabata could explain it better.
great video, but you missed one important possibility: that Noctis is actually of the Coleman family. the clues are right in front of us. where does all of that magical camping equipment come from? why does it all say COLEMAN? you know it all doesn't fit in the Regalia's trunk. just like Noctis summons royal arms, he summons royal camping equipment. and what's the name all over that equipment? COLEMAN. smh, can't believe you overlooked this.
So since there is so much left unexplained about Ardyn Lucis Caelum, I hope Enix makes a spin off, or separate game to explain what all happened to him. It seems like that may be what they end up doing and I say this because his role in the early and mid part of the game wasn't as big as it was towards the end, and ask yourself, "Why would our end-game antagonist be on the side throughout 2/3 of the game?" With that being said, I hope Enix makes a spin-off game to go more in depth into Ardyn's story and early life.
Very good explanation of the story Bro! Maybe you should have mentioned that Luna helped Noctis defeat Ardyn by touching his arm after he stabbed her. When Noctis defeated him in the end Ardyn tried to defend himself but he could not rise his hand because of Luna. This is not a big aspect of the story but it is also a very interesting thing to put into consideration.
Before it was revealed that Gentiana is actually Shiva in disguise she was officially dead since she disappeared from the world for a long time. I just wanted to tell the peasant here that he is wrong on one little detail and since you can watch the cutscenes or play the game yourself I won't answer any more questions.
You are actually right, but I think her death as not specified as how she died so this could actually be some kind of reference to both things, as ardyn could have killed her or aid ifrt in doing so after he got corrupted
I think the king who betrayd him was of the same bloodline, and for this betreyal the future generation kings paid by not being chosen by the crystal. So redemption came to all of them when Noctis absorbed them and they all died with him to save the star.
I'm not sure if Ardyn is over 2000 years old. Ifrit betrayed the other gods over 2000 years ago and started the war of gods. According to the official strategy guide the war ended about 756 years ago when the humans were gifted the crystal and the plague was healed which marked the beginning of a new timeline. So there are 13 kings in 756 years.
My problem with this is THE GAME JUST ISN'T LONG ENOUGH! If the storymode was as long as previous mainline entry FF games, they could've brought this message to all the fans easily instead of making me come here! It's an amazing game that i want more story out of, but not in the way 7 left me, but making me feel like they left a lot of story out of the game. I want more square, love the world of FFXV. Ardyn had THE potential to be the next biggest iconic videogame villain matching or overthrowing Sephiroth when it came to the FF franchise.
*"May you two know happiness"* So I just finished the game about two days ago and though the ending is bittersweet and my initial thought was that everyone died, I'm now starting to have second thoughts. Not because I'm in denial. Not because I didn't accept the ending. But because of what King Regis is saying and how he's talking to them. We can all agree this isn't a typical FF ending. Everyone dies. It makes it all the more emotional when you feel a real emotional connection to the main characters. Surprisingly enough I thought this ending was great. If it ended on a happy note, I still would have been okay with it. This is one of those moments where both of these ending would've been acceptable to me. But that being said, I strongly believe there is going to be a DLC released in explanation to what all occurred in the 10 year gap that Noctis was gathering the crystal's power and the final scene in the spiritual realm just after Noctis falls on his back and his spirit disappears. It reminds me of FFX, VIII, and all the XIII trilogy. And as we all know with FF series, NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS And it's all in Regis's dialogue to them. The way in which he speaks to them. If they're all dead, why is he talking to them in some sort of faraway scope, looking down on them type stuff and wishing them well? I don't want people to think this is a rant, because it's not. It's more like a diagnosis. As much as evidence proves that everyone did indeed die and move on to the farplane or afterlife, there's also minimal evidence which speaks in GREAT VOLUME that that wasn't the case at all. And again, it's all in the way King Regis is talking to Noctis and Luna. Congratulating them. Wishing them well. It doesn't make sense to do that if they're all dead. It's as if King Regis and the other Knights or Dead Kings are rewarding them with life for all their sacrifice. That this dialogue doesn't take place necessarily in the scene we're seeing, but rather in the afterlife right before Noctis and Luna and maybe even the others are resurrected back to life. *"Thank you"* is what Noctis says to his father after those words. Again, it doesn't make sense to be talking to each other like this if you were dead. If that was the case, there would be no need for these words in the land of the dead where everyone is now reunited with one another and should be happy regardless of them being dead because they're all together no matter what. Watching the entire ending for the first time after I kicked Arden's ass, I was a filthy mess of emotions and tears and snot. But the only thing that stunted me, the only thing that made me stop and think was King Regis's words and the mannerism in which he spoke to Noctis and Luna. Because where does it make sense where they alone would have their own realm in the dead and be happy all together if Noctis also cared about his brothers in arms? I think it's also important that we reflect back on various hints throughout the game. No matter how small they are. For example, indications of Luna's wedding dress. Like how Prompto and Ignis were saying in Altissia that the wedding could still be on after everything was taken care of. It's in the small things here and there that keep me guessing and staying optimistic for every turn and possible outcome. I'm going to play it by ear and DLC but for now I will accept that they're still dead and found happiness together in the afterlife. What do you guys think? We all know the OBVIOUS outcome but what are some of your theories for other possible outcomes?
Couple of thoughts while I try to digest the ending myself, and watching your videos... a) Interesting that Ardyn calls Noctis an 'imposter king' in Chapter 13 during his numerous chastisements while you do the level. Probably subscribes to the theories in this and your video on the ex-employee leaks that Noct's ancestors somehow 'stole' the throne and he felt cheated. b) Given the game pulls a lot on both Nordic and Greek mythology, do you think that Ardyn/the Lucis Caelum lineage is almost a Thor/Loki situation? He is chaotic, a menace (as was Loki), and believed he should have ascended as a true king (as did Loki), and felt he was cheated from the throne by a sibling (as did Loki)? Perhaps Ardyn or a Lucis Caelum ancestor were an adopted sibling? And that was the cause of the rift and animosity? As I say, idle thoughts while I try and work it all out.
The way I see it, Ardyn was just like Noctis. Both of them are chosen, to heal Eos. Ardyn absorbing myriad daemons, while Noctis absorb the Old Kings of Lucis. Ardyn was supposed to be dead like Noctis, but somehow he rendered immortal. I believe Ifrit has something to do with it, that damn traitor. Well, in the end... sweet Ardyn won. I smiled actually in the end game. He manage to achieve his goal, the end of Lucis royal bloodline and the crystal is destroyed... though, I personally dislike the end game video where Noctis is all happy and peaceful with Luna. So unfair...
That endgame part alludes to an afterlife, which if it exists, noctis earned at that point lol. Even if insane, ardyn did far too much damage to deserve a happy ending.
It's a happy ending for Ardyn, actually. He achieve his goal. I as his fan, only dislike the happy and peaceful Noctis with Luna. I know the wedding is happening in after life, and I still dislike it. It hurt my heart seeing Ardyn have to die twice, on Eos and on spiritual realm. Sorry, it's a fangirl ranting so better ignore it. I give my vengeance to them by chose Ardyn's photo for their wedding day. Hah!
Estrella Lucis Izunia Well he got what he wanted didn't he lol? quite generous all things considered. It was hardly a happy ending for noctis anyway. Dude died a painful death, watched his fiancee die in front of him (by ardyn no less), and his reward is a slight afterlife before he ascends as a spirit of lucis.
Yeah, at least Noct still have his spirit while Ardyn... #weep People say that they feel sad when Luna died, feel sad when see the end video. I cried when I have to kill Ardyn, twice. I literally cried. It's those Astrals' fault and the jealous king who made him like that, make a true monster of him... 😭😭😭
From what I read, Ardyn was immortal because of the Deamons he absorbed. This is from the wiki "Ardyn absorbed countless daemons to save thousands across the world yet is denounced by the Astrals as unclean, denied entry to the Astral Realm demonized by a jealous king (Noctis' ancestor) who later becomes chosen by the crystal" He then vowed to kill the one true king, being Noctis. I agree, he had a sad story and he was living with this for 2,000 years, who wouldn't go insane and want to destroy the Lucis Bloodline? It seems like the the Astrals used him to stop the Starscourge and then he was tossed away like he was something of pure evil. In my opinion the true villain is Noctis's Ancestor because of his jealousy.
Great explanation I loved it and I agree with you whole heartedly on how great Ardyn was as a villain. As for one of your questions, I think it is truly Noctis Izunia. Just by the fact of what Ardyn said "you'll never guess who Izunia was." As in like Izunia was the king who betrayed him and shole his name aka one of Noctis' ancestors.
i remember a long time ago that versus 13 was going to be loosely based on Hamlet... so brothers betrayal makes sense. feels like they kept aspects of versus 13 and implemented new elements and storylines to push their narrative.
It is a shame the updates to story are after we played though the game, but it's better to get updates than to get nothing. I always play though my Final Fantasy games more than once so it's not a huge deal to me and FF15 will have a new game plus, so I assume you will get to keep your stats and so maybe it be easy to play though the story next time with out having to do the side quests. Plus it's easy to level up quick in FF15 if you know to save up exp and go to a posh hotels and the main story isn't hard at a low level.
Dirqué P. Lmfao what? Square literally brought in enough money with 15 to just say "fuck you guys" and move on to 16, yet the fact that they're actually letting tabata finish the game to what he envisioned (hopefully) is something they didn't HAVE to do. 3 years wasn't fuckinggg enough for this game to be under development.
Didn't ardyn say he was the first king of light? he reference Noctis as the second would be king twice I think? I got from the story that Ardyn was the first king of light chosen by the gods, (not unlike noctis) and once he rid the world of deamons and inturn the Starscourge (by absorbing it all into himself) the gods and king at the time (almost definitely his father) cast him out for being corrupted by daemons. also I didn't think the last scene wasn't a "traditional" afterlife scene I feel it was more tragic than that, (coz tebata) I feel it was a gift from Regis to his son and Luna, it was a gift for them to finally share a moment before falling into a never ending sleep. this is what I took from it and I think it's fuckin beautifully tragic!
yeah and I said I DONT think that is the option. There are forums posts discussing this and a HUGE point is people calling Noctis. Noctis Izunia. I simply adressed that point, explained its possibility and then gave the other option which I stated I think is more logical
I dont make any assumption. I simply state the FACT that Izunia could either be a first or surname and what each entails. That's not assumption, Izunia is a personal pure and simple. As for the rest of the vid, thats just laying out the story as it is.
I kinda found the real betrayal in ff 15 to be how ardyn was given power to save man kind, however that power was meant to save mankind and it did just not how they discribed to him how he used his power to save humanity was how he basically created noctis and max him worthy of the crystals power. I think he was never hateful or evil maybe spiteful but I think he learned his true power was to make the true king by being the trial for him.
I think my comment got deleted or something? Posting again: Thanks for this video Pez. We and the others over at /r/FFXV have been discussing this a lot....As for the question: Noctis Izunia or Noctis Lucis Caelum? I believe it is Noctis Izunia and there are quite a few reasons why. First, Ardyn's comment to Noctis after their battle at the citadel: "Now it is over, majesty. What will you do? Banish the daemons and bring peace? ERASE ME FROM HISTORY ONCE MORE?" ^^^ That right there. Erase me from history once more. They ostracized him, demonized him, and took his name. They (the gods) deemed him so impure of body and soul, and wished to wipe the star scourge and him from history completely and start over with a new King. Adding to the above, Ardyn says this to Noctis during their battle : "You're a second choice at best!" The Izunias were a second choice by the gods, but they wanted to erase Ardyn from history (the first time) so they gave the new line the name Lucis Caelum. It would seem like nothing ever even happened in the history books. Why else would Ardyn comment on being erased from history "once more"? I believe the gods (the 5 of the 6) decided to strip him of the name and grant it to the new chosen. It would just add to the bitterness Ardyn has, and it makes even more sense for him to take their name as an act of spite. Why? Because how fantastic is it for Ardyn that the name Izunia will now be known, after the timeline of the game, as the name of the one who brought darkness down upon the world? It is all part of his revenge: end the Izunia line, tarnish their name, and destroy the crystal. The Izunias/Izunia were/was jealous for not being chosen (out of jealousy or righteousness can be debated - we don't know...although the gods did agree that Ardyn was far too tainted to be granted ascension) - we know that much for sure. Another side note: it is interesting that originally the gods chose for the crystal bearer (Ardyn) to be both King and Oracle simultaneously. After stripping him of both the title and name, they split the duties between the Lucis Line (guard the crystal, special fighting powers) and the Fleuret Line (Oracle, ability to heal those affected by the scourge). This was probably a "we learned our lesson, let's do it right this time with two completely new families". ------------- Sorry I know that's a lot but I strongly believe that Noctis and his ancestors were originally the Izunia line, and it just makes sense for the name swap to occur in both directions for the reasons stated above.
Yes Izunia was the king who banished him. But thats just is, Izunia was the one who took the throne of Lucis and founded Noctis' line! So Either Izunia stole the name or he was indeed related to Ardyn. A son/daughter is entirely possible, just as possible as a brother. Also Izunia BECAME a king after Ardyn, at the time it says he had not been appointed by the crystal. So Izunia whoever he truly is did not ascend to it rightfully, he betrayed his way to it
I remember that Nomura once said that the history of this FF was inspired by the book of Shakespeare Hamlet so i think it's a very big probability that noctis is part of the family of Ardyn
Except Ifrit is on the poster. Barring Shiva(who has extenuated circumstances for her size), Ifrit is the smallest of the Astrals, not look carefully among the Daemons at the bottom. More specifically near to the center as though leading the charge but just a little off. That "minotaur" looking thing? Ifrit.
DemonEyeX I mean that's debatable shiva is the smallest at the moment being a couple inches smaller than adult noctis. But when she was alive (which I don't know how she isn't) she was most likely as big as bahumut.
Cake# That's why I said extenuating circumstances. Shiva in her original form was a freaking skyscraper. Doesn't change my premise of a possible Ifrit being among the daemons at the bottom.
I wonder if the Omen trailer is somehow connected to this, specifically the end of the trailer. Let's recap: Regis: How many more must die before you are satisfied? ???: I have seen many deaths, but now I'm looking forward to one. Then I can rest. Regis: He will take responsibility. ???: As must we all. Regis: May the Gods forgive me. What if the person Regis was talking to was Ardyn or (and this is more likely) this Izunia character?
Have to go with Bahamut, he is the one controlling the Crystal, he is the "main defender", he tells Noctis of his fate as he has been waiting for him in the crystal, waiting for the one true king (which leads me to belive in Noctis Izunia Lucis Caelum isn't far fetched) Noctis sacrifice will be the last death in the royal bloodline, because he purged the world of daemons and their source and also there is no more royal bloodline left in the world. But it might as well be Ardyns death Bahamut refers to ;)
It could be Ardyn the one he is talking too yes, cuz we know Ardyn somehow wanted to die and at the same time he also wants to take revange, so it would make sense that the death he is looking forward to is Noctis, the last Lucian to complete his revenge and to kill him and end his immortality at the same time. But as they said above, it can also be Bahamut, since Bahamut is the one inside the crystal. Yet this doesnt make much sense for me, cuz i dont think Bahamut is the one killing ppl since the first sentence of Regis says "how many must die before you are satisfied", so.... why would Bahamut be satisfied for ppl dying? is bahamut the one wanting ppl to die? He is the one wanting to rest? For me this part of the Omen trailer is obviously refering to Ardyn, cuz they could have put the crystal just to avoid spoiling that it was Ardyn and to make it more "difficult" to find out. But every sentence makes only sense if it is Ardyn. It would give also sense to why Regis took down the wall and sacrified all his ppl (to let Ardyn rest which was the biggest problem of the world). Noctis was the "only death" that would take the whole Lucis generations and Gods with him to death, this completes Ardyns revenge and makes him rest in peace. But i doubt Izunia is Ardyn, i believe that was an older king than Regis... different part of the story, i believe Ardyn is older than Regis. Since there are way more kings that are already dead before Regis (13 in total + Regis 14 i believe). And Ardyn seems to be the one that the "Cosmo" book talks about (i think was named Cosmo). So i think the Izunia name has nothing to do with Omen trailer. Thats longer back in time.
Nyanmaru Unlocked why would regis listen to ardyn? when he says how many more must die for you to be satisfied, he means how many more lives will it cost for you to complete your goal not just killing people outright
Hi! Just one little detail: most of the names in ffxv come from latin, therefore, it might sound strange, but the correct pronunciation of Caelum is "celum", pronouncing the "c" as you would say in "cheers!" or "chinese". And caelum actually means "sky". I'm italian btw, trust me ^^ however, I know it sounds way more cool as "kaelum". Thank you for the video, really helpful!
IMO...Ardyn won in the end, he got all that he wanted, he wanted revenge on the ones who wronged him ...yup he got that, he wanted to die, yup he got that too, and his original objective before he got shafted, he wanted to save the world from demons, and he got that too as he led noctis to becoming the true king.
liked, unliked, just to like it again!
Totally agree. Noctis won our hearts but Ardyn won the greater game in practically every conceivable way.
The scene where Shiva froze Ardyn mid sentence and shut him up is my favorite scene in the game lol
That was mine too
Mine too
Same
"Off my chair jester.... The king sits there"
Technically wasn't Ardyn the "Chosen One" until his backstabbing douche of a brother Somnus stole it from him?:/
@@paulineiv878 technically. But it was still a kickass line.
@@MrProg-lq8od Yeah I like!!♡
Lowkey Kefka referencing too
I got the impression that Ardyn's ultimate goal was not only revenge against the betrayers, but also for him to finally die. Ardyn knew that the only way he could die is from the kings, but in killing him, the betrayers line would also end.
That adds some humanity to his character, that despite siding with the empire, he suffers from being immortal. I'd hate to live that long.
Claus Grimhildr I was just about to suggest this but ya beat me to it! Cheers!
That may be why the final chapter is called "Cure for Insomnia", because Noctis was finally able to put Ardyn to rest.
No...he just wanted Noctis to Achieve the Crystals Power so he can defeat Noctis AND the Crystal at the same Time so no one could ever defeat the Darkness...
it's not the betrayal line, i think he identified the rig the cristal as the origin of all the problems and wanted to end it all
Ardyn not only anted revenge, he always wanted rest.
"A cur for Insomnia" = A cure for immortality.
Ardyn was most probably the 1st king's brother. So not Noct's great great great... grand father but his great great great... grand uncle.
yep
He was related to “The Mystic” I think the royal edition had some extra content. Not sure since it’s the only one I played but that specific king says “go and free my brother or rescue my brother”
And 2 years later, you nailed it. He is actually the 1st king's brother lol.
Thats true
Holy shit, you called it.
"The face you wore the day you --"
I swear when I was hearing that line it sounded like he was about to say "died"
Amber Ramnarine
I believe that was there in the original script. Don't quote me on that though.
Amber Ramnarine even in the italian version he says: the day you died..
+Vero Mal and the Chinese version as well.
I know, right?
Amber Ramnarine but imo....i think he say that day as the empire only see shiva form not geratina form
i think the "Reclaim your Throne" thing was for both sides, thats so fucking dope
that's so cool! also the final mission is called "cure for insomnia", as in a cure for ardyn's immortality since he never got to rest.
damn mindblown
cool
could even the name of the city have something to do with that? could he be the founder of the city? anyone know?
they made ravus look like a bad guy in truth he never was he was angry because Regis didn't help him and his Mom he took off with noct and Luna but Luna stayed behind and ravus I feel bad for him having to hold that anger in I'm sure Regis really cares he probly hates himself for a lot but now both kingdoms are safe now and there will be a new king
+Final Fantasy Peasant
I agree with most of your ideas but here’s my take on Ardyn and the whole story (I wrote this quickly, it may be long but stick around, it'll be worth the read):
Ardyn is not the villain of the game but he’s the antagonist. He’s not truly evil nor does he want vengeance. He just want to get rid of the scourge that has plagued the world and kill himself to end his suffering.
Before reading, remember the quote in Final Fantasy versus xiii: “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.” -- William Shakespeare
Final Fantasy XV still kept this idea.
I also think that he leads Noctis through the game, build up his power and hatred towards him so that he could put him out of his eternal suffering.
Anverto90
Yeah, I completely agree with you.
@Ichiruno I just finished the game and I completely missed all the things you just outlined :P, this story is amazing.
Mr. Skype Call Yea, his goal was not to destroy the world, yet he even managed to do that.
5) Does it in a fedora.
6) Doesn't look douchey in said fedora and rocks a black wing-sleeve
7) makes people actually feel sorry for him because of his dick brother turning him into a villain
dick sister turning on him, lol
seeing Luna go was painful, seeing Noctis go, absolutely killed me
stephen broly They both got married in they beyond so its not that bad i guess.
They never allowed me to get attached to Luna so I didn't car at all. This game's story sucked ass.
@@kain7513 I will agree that Luna needed more screen time. But you’re wrong about the story which is utterly brilliant it was the story TELLING that wasn’t up to par.
Quite possible; I'm not sure myself; but I would definitely say they are related.
Who do you think started that grudge???
classic final fantasy it's pretty muvh like FFIV which this one has a lots of similarities to...
Haven't played 4 yet, but I heard it's fantastic.
I see many similarities to other FFs, especially 6, 10 and 12.

P/s: first time playing ff
You never once mention it's heavily implied Ardyn *wanted to die..*
So i think izunia may be his little brother, that after ardyn was rejected from the Astrals and crystal because of his tainted soul after becoming Immortal, was choosen from the Astrals to safeguard him until the arrival of the promised true King, and not taking the Throne out of jealousy like Ardyn said to Noctis
like your answer
Mr. NiceGuy thats what i was thinking, ardyn wasnt betrayed, he was the one who betrayed the Gods and the people, so they rejected him because of it
Mr. NiceGuy sound logic with solid evidence, but could it also be a fact that Ardyn was absorbed into the ring as well because ALL of the lucius caelum's were required to purge the starscourge?
Woody hmm i don't know but who know :)
they werent... the royal line was only charged with defending the crystal until the day of the chosen king which they did which is also why regis let the city fall an crystal be taken... because at that point it was more important to defend noctis than the crystal. only the chosen king was charged with banishing the darkness
This was made before episode ignus dlc where he said it was his brother.
I can't help it but I think the game had an awesome story with extremely poor presentation.
ardyn said in the end something like he would be forgotten again. the people simply forgot ardyn and his true powers, that he took a great deal of deamons inside of him and became immortal in the process.
TheSentiment16
What confuses me is that Ardyn was never mentioned again as the first king nor the hero after he was branded as a deamon.
Caryn Read Well she did survive as Gentiana (and it looks like her corpse can still freeze things)
she was defeated but not killed. just as she was defeated again in modern time which is why the ice cloud suddenly appears. you need to bare in mind astrals are not purely confined to a physical body so i think dying only means it takes time for them to return. otherwise titan & levi when they died wouldnt have been able to be summoned with the blessing. also look at the animation for shiva summon... unlike the other astrals she chose to maintain many smaller form rather than a large one
Ardyn really was done dirty. He healed people, and they turned their backs on him.
Man, when he said, I'll wait for you in the afterlife or whatever, gave me chills.
Fun fact... Ardyn is voiced by Reinhardt
Best villain since Sephiroth IMHO.
I agree. I have been a Sephiroth fangirl for over a decade, and I think I actually like Ardyn more.
Same. Ardyn was amazing.
I thought Caius from FF13 was pretty amazing too.
iTzOminousTic I hated almost everything about the 13 trilogy.
Caius was the only reason I actually enjoyed FF13-2. He was so badass, love'd the voice actor they chose for him.
Shawnee Longbow
you mean Nyx, who was of the kingsglaive, not the crownsguard, and he had a chance to gain the rings power /permanantly/ but he was required to sacrifice his best friend or Luna, and he vehemently refused to, to the point of outright insulting the lucii, but upon regis entreating them, they offered a second deal, where his life was the price
That's not how I remember it. In the movie I saw, the old kings told him that they'd lend him their power to fight off the Nifs, but he would die at the dawn of the next day. But yeah, he _did_ have a rather flippant attitude about the whole situation. Which I found hilarious.
He had a chance a little before that to, you can even check
I wish Luna turned to be the villain of the story, in my opinion that would have been awesome.
TL;DR:
Izunia is just A RANDOM NAME that Ardyn took or came up with.
Izunia was the family's first name, when they were gifted their power by the gods then they changed their name to lucis caelum
Yeah the later patches added scenes and dialog that make this much more clear.
Before they were Lucis Caelum, Izunia was their surname. It only changed when the astrals, no, Bahamut granted them the Crystal saying that the Lucis Caelum surname befits them more as they ascended into royalty.
Your missing a few things:
Basically when they die their souls go to the Astral Plain.
I agree. Noctis tells them to take care of the world once he's gone. Hopefully meaning he's saved the world for them
But yer, remember when the game was first revealed and they said Noctis could see the expired souls of the dead because he had a near death experience himself.
Louie Vazquez Ardyn's 3 benefits. Destroys kingdoms. Slays the Kings generation. Released from his curse.
Yeah Ardyn wins either way here.
Louie Vazquez But they be gods/summons. Eidolons? xD eyyyy
I thought Ardyn was rejected by the Crystal because of all the demons he has absorbed then corrupting him. So Izunia could be he relative i believe.
ah yes i remember that....
"As strong as Sephiroth"
I mean, unless I missed a cutscene where Ardyn destroyed an entire solar system, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on that one. Still an intriguing video overall though.
Samael that was a stupid illusion...
Kefka Palazzo no
Samael hello bud. If seph did destroye the solar sisteme you would have got the game over screen.
Yes it was an illusion.
Was pretty meh too.
Samael Sephiroth never destroyed a solar system. Hell, he never even destroyed the friggin planet, bruh.

Ardyn is one of the best villains in game history. He got what he wanted even at the cost of his own death which he DGAF about. Great job square enix!
Also will Gladiolus take the Throne since he's more closer to royalty?
if the 3 guys could survive the demons ~
Blitzer all 4 of them died
At the end, in the beyond you could see Noctis and his friends standing together, they wouldn't be there if they were alive
phatbot210 we actually don't know shit about that, as they are fightning daemons once the fight with ardyn is over and noctis go do his thing on the throne...
Read the guidebook it explains the both families linage and alliances. connects to A Kings Tail Final Fantasy XV also.
johnathon maxwell A source please. Link this before I believe any of this.
johnathon maxwell awesome. is there a way to check that out online if we didn't get the UCE?
the book is sold seperately
So there's no online source to back up anything you said here? Not a scan?
His mother isn't pictured, but she is mentioned in the time line, she was a childhood friend of Regis named Aulea
this game has elements from every other final fantasy game
That was actually my favorite thing about the game.
No shit Sherlock? Lol they all have common themes.
Devilikg this was the best FF to ever come out
@@vergilsparda8805 not even..
It actually had the best story telling and a much more believable and enjoyable world than any other FF in my opinion. Also, best villain ever.
Minato Arisato But do remember Nyx had to give the ring back to Lunafreya since he was only borrowing the powers of the Lucii till dawn.
Ardyn and Izunia could have been brothers.
The ring was made to accept the person by the astrals will, basically. Put it this way...the ring is a device that can only be used by anyone having a certain pre-programmed blood signature. The ring creator, the astrals, can then change the programming to accept Izunia once they deem Ardyn a mistake.
Keiji Fujiwara really made the character of Ardyn for me.
Didn't doubt him one bit.
Yeah he really did an awesome job, great playful teasing quality to his performance that suited Ardyn perfectly and sinister when it was needed.
If you watched the Japanese dub of The Dark Knight, he played the Joker and had a similar approach to it.
He made me like the Joker.
he dd a great job, but honestly i think his english Va killed it better due to the way they transition his voice from flamboyant and jesterlike to the more demented and vengeful ardyn in the 2nd half
jsh020 I think Fujiwara did a perfect job at conveying that too though, in chapter 13 he was very creepy and menacing as well as in the end of the game. I am not saying the English VA didn't kill it, but yeah.
Fadburger No i agree full he did a great job there, they both really sold ardyn as a villain, i just personally prefer the English one is all.
Me: **Blames the game for being so confusing and having to watch a movie and an anime to get what's going on.**
Also me: **Never read any of the Cosmogony books.**
U know what after game there still a book to read
I think its a bad thing that this game needs an explanation at all. A story shouldnt be this confusing, even Final fantasy
It's not confusing, not even that hard to figure out if you spend 2 minutes to think about it.
Also this is my forst final fantasy. Might be a factor to it
Yeah except the problem is, i was super close to beating X before this game dropped and i feel that THAT game was more coherent and frankly finished than this game.

Rachel Highfill and why?
While also preventing what happened to him from happening again to someone else.
ericneo2 Really? The SECOND I saw him I knew he was bad. Sort of reminded me of Seymour in FF10.
Thats what I think anyway :D A vid on it could be cool =)
dude do a video about it and compare aydrn with him XD
Final Fantasy Peasant excellent explanation
Christopher Edwards Finally. You actually paid attention to the game. Thank you for that.
Christopher Edwards EXACTLY. So that means...Noctis Lucis Caelum is really a Caelum.
Also just so you know in Japanese Ardyn said Izunia was a throw away name, so it basically murders 80% of Peasant's theory here.
Shining Lion gladio and the others have weapon summoning abilities but they depend on noctis it is the same with king regis and the kingsglaive when noctis power was sealed they also couldn't use th
eir weapon
Thanks. You made me appreciate this story much more. It's a good story, but they fumbled the telling IMO.
You know the plot is garbage when you have to watch a 20 min video attempt of explaining what the fuck was going on.
Every final fantasy ever has had open ended question
Chris Zammit he was one of the daemons you killed in the place with the crystal he was talking to you as you fought him he was easy to kill
Milbox R oh, I remember that. Still want more to it than that, tho. Can't wait for the Booster Pack :D
Milbox R what happened to him, anyway? You said he became a daemon.
Also, who was that sitting on the throne?
Chris Zammit he was turned to a daemons by ardyn im pretty sure
after watching this it made me realize how amazing the story actually is, and how much of a miss the story telling was. If we could play ardyn flash back 2000 years ago and explain things more in his amazing revenge, it would have been so good.
also, when Gentiana appears in the train Ardyn says 'that's the same face that you were wearing the day you died' i'm pretty sure of that
Izunia was a lucias, only the lucii were able to use the crystals power.
The crystal explicitly discriminates. If you're not worthy of the ring, you can't use the crystal.
Replying a year later because I just got time to play it. But the royal edition did have one of the Kings say “go save my brother”
@@Rubedo88 does the royal edition/royal pack have a different ending or changes?
Dark hound22 I’m watching old videos to try and figure that out, I feel pretty complete with the game I don’t think that anything is missing. But I did get the 3 other episodes so when I play that I know his has different endings. I know there is extra cut scenes
@@Rubedo88 yeah i beat the main game along time ago but i dont have any of the episodes so maybe thats what ive been missing.

Sorry to correct you...but at 2:34 Ardyn refers to the day Shiva died not the event on the book cover. The other languages are pretty consistent here.
Great video, helped me a lot to get an overview.
Antipathie also if you listen he gets halfway through saying died
Agreed, he was going to get something he wanted either way.
No I disagree. Arydn got what he wanted. Noctis is Vanished. with the crystal gone in the Ring an the Ring vanished in the end. An the Demeans are still out in the world. the wedding is happening when they sleep in the after life.
Ryan Murphy
The daemons aren't out in the world anymore, though, because Noct's death brought about the end of the plague and the return of the day/night cycle.
Otherwise, though, we agree. Ardyn got literally everything he wanted, including his death.
Yeah, Ardyn wanted death or his ascension. Everything else that could happen would just be a bonus.
Marc M yup, free dlc at that
Lets just hope the dlc will provide more in-depth side stories... Unlike FFXIII-2 weird dlcs that lasted like 30 mins lmfao.
Marc M Gladio, Prompto and Ignis did not die... I don't understand why people think they died. The camp scene was before going to Insomnia... and the scene at the crystal they were there as people who helped and are important to Noctis, but they were there in "spirit".
Jason Negrón I agree idk why everyone thinks they died
The thing is, we don't know if they did die or what. But I agree that "until more information is provided", imo, they're not dead (while noctis is, and maybe they'll resurrect him afterwards, as this is what square enix does since FF10 : resurrecting dead people)
Noctis deserved better
Also where the hell did you get that picture of King Morus
If noctis is not "lucis caelum", why noctis can use the ring of lucis
Its the ring of Lucii. Every king wore it
Igniz can also use the ring in his story
@@lucifermorningstar3506 omg yes but they only can wield it to protect the king or kingdom but with sacrifice. Noctis cant be izunia and ardyn used the name to hide his identity. They both use royal arms along with every fucking kind of lucis. Im surprised nobody can understand something so fucking simple. Izunia is an imperial name therefore great cover for a prominent man of lucis. Due to his old age he isnt known well but all of lucis knows the stories. The empire took ardyn and convinced him to help them to do so he had to hide his real name....

If Noctis whole family were imposters then wouldn't the ring not accept them?
Its the Lucian kings that do the rejecting not the ring.
obviously....
Sterman99 plus people saying "it's a family name" but you can have family names as first/middle names as well
What is common thing among all of them? Bloodline. It's not even that hard to figure it out.
It seems like that may be what they end up doing and I say this because his role in the early and mid part of the game wasn't as big as it was towards the end, and ask yourself, "Why would our end-game antagonist be on the side throughout 2/3 of the game?" With that being said, I hope Enix makes a spin-off game to go more in depth into Ardyn's story and early life.
honestly I think the one who betrayed ardyn was his brother and they shared the name lucis callem
a brother that wasn't gifted jealous of his brothers gift.
Remy Dolce or a son.
He could also be a half brother if Izunia is indeed a surname. An illegitimate child who could only get the throne of something happened to Ardyn.
it's very likely they were brothers. The crown on aryden's head in the cosmology book implies royalty
IT WAS HIS SON. THERE WAS NO BROTHER.
You´re wrong about the part with Gentiana. The day Ardyn speaks about is the day she died.
Did you even play the game? They said there that Shiva has died before. That´s the day Ardyn was talking about.
How is she dead when she's alive and well helping us with ardyn and ifrit.
Before it was revealed that Gentiana is actually Shiva in disguise she was officially dead since she disappeared from the world for a long time.
I just wanted to tell the peasant here that he is wrong on one little detail and since you can watch the cutscenes or play the game yourself I won't answer any more questions.
Oh so she just made a ice sculpture of herself before she died.
Does anyone know the title and origin of the soundtrack that opens with the piano piece at about 7:30? I would like to find it, thanks!
He said it took thirteen generations, wouldn't it be one-hundred-thirteen generations? (Noctis' full name is Noctis Lucis Caelum CXIV, or the 114th)
I also have this doubt because the Lucii is composed by 13 beings but the Lucis Caelum lineage had 113 kings till Regis. Why just 13?
Probably just 13 because Ardyn was the first one to be gifted by the gods
True, he was the first, but you do know Ardyn is over 2,000 years old, right?
I'm not sure if Ardyn is over 2000 years old. Ifrit betrayed the other gods over 2000 years ago and started the war of gods. According to the official strategy guide the war ended about 756 years ago when the humans were gifted the crystal and the plague was healed which marked the beginning of a new timeline. So there are 13 kings in 756 years.
Yingtao now that makes sense. I don't knew about that informations! Thank you
My problem with this is THE GAME JUST ISN'T LONG ENOUGH!
*"May you two know happiness"*
So I just finished the game about two days ago and though the ending is bittersweet and my initial thought was that everyone died, I'm now starting to have second thoughts.
I have to disagree with you, its semetic mythology.
FALSE, the real name is Noctis Uvuvwevwevwe Onyetenyvwe Ugwemubwem Ossas
lmao
o fuck! xD
Best fucking comment EVER
I don't get it.
madscientistshusta look up the name, you'll get it 😂
What's the song playing at around 13:40? And which game was it in?
Noctis Lucis Caelum... Ardyn being part of the bloodline... the next in line being Jealous of Ardyn... If you talked to Talcott, its revealed there.
bukalayzx is it? I'll check that out. thanks
YEP !
you can ask Talcott about the happenings for the last ten years... including how his grandfather was killed
#weep
People say that they feel sad when Luna died, feel sad when see the end video. I cried when I have to kill Ardyn, twice. I literally cried. It's those Astrals' fault and the jealous king who made him like that, make a true monster of him... 😭😭😭
From what I read, Ardyn was immortal because of the Deamons he absorbed.
This is from the wiki
"Ardyn absorbed countless daemons to save thousands across the world yet is denounced by the Astrals as unclean, denied entry to the Astral Realm demonized by a jealous king (Noctis' ancestor) who later becomes chosen by the crystal"
He then vowed to kill the one true king, being Noctis.
I agree, he had a sad story and he was living with this for 2,000 years, who wouldn't go insane and want to destroy the Lucis Bloodline?
It seems like the the Astrals used him to stop the Starscourge and then he was tossed away like he was something of pure evil.
In my opinion the true villain is Noctis's Ancestor because of his jealousy.
what version of Somnus plays in this video @15:00?
Great explanation I loved it and I agree with you whole heartedly on how great Ardyn was as a villain.
As for one of your questions, I think it is truly Noctis Izunia. Just by the fact of what Ardyn said "you'll never guess who Izunia was." As in like Izunia was the king who betrayed him and shole his name aka one of Noctis' ancestors.
Ardyn is the best ff villain on my book now through the game I hated him so much and that on my book makes an awesome villain
Kefka nuff said.
CUBEoneVX I agree. Kefka was a madman.
i remember a long time ago that versus 13 was going to be loosely based on Hamlet...
so brothers betrayal makes sense.
feels like they kept aspects of versus 13 and implemented new elements and storylines to push their narrative.
I am hoping we get an answer with future updates or dlc.
OwtDaftUK they're adding free cutscenes to the game along with much Kris story improvements for free. Get hyped
Address but what about people who already played the story :(
It is a shame the updates to story are after we played though the game, but it's better to get updates than to get nothing.
The free updates are a reaction of SE due to the community. If noone had played the game yet, there would be no free "additional" content
Dirqué P.
That chapter 13. Demons created that chapter
I'm on a hallway to hell
WHAT IS THE SONG STARTING AT 13:24?? PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME
Didn't ardyn say he was the first king of light? he reference Noctis as the second would be king twice I think?
I got from the story that Ardyn was the first king of light chosen by the gods, (not unlike noctis) and once he rid the world of deamons and inturn the Starscourge (by absorbing it all into himself) the gods and king at the time (almost definitely his father) cast him out for being corrupted by daemons.
also I didn't think the last scene wasn't a "traditional" afterlife scene I feel it was more tragic than that, (coz tebata) I feel it was a gift from Regis to his son and Luna, it was a gift for them to finally share a moment before falling into a never ending sleep. this is what I took from it and I think it's fuckin beautifully tragic!
there's too much assumption and you even made an assumption based on your assumption
name a single assumption I made
Final Fantasy Peasant uuhmm... Izunia lucis caelum? Thats the one that I remember. I dont remember all what you've said
yeah and I said I DONT think that is the option. There are forums posts discussing this and a HUGE point is people calling Noctis. Noctis Izunia. I simply adressed that point, explained its possibility and then gave the other option which I stated I think is more logical
Yeah but you still made a lot of assumption, if you've made your title "FFXV story theory" I wouldn't make a single complain
Posting again:
Thanks for this video Pez.
ERASE ME FROM HISTORY ONCE MORE?"
^^^ That right there.
-------------
Sorry I know that's a lot but I strongly believe that Noctis and his ancestors were originally the Izunia line, and it just makes sense for the name swap to occur in both directions for the reasons stated above.
also Izunia IMO was Ardyn's son/daughter, Izunia Lucis Caelum. betrayed by his own child, that sounds a lot more tragic for Ardyn.
He did not exactly say that Izunia was the Jealous king, more likely implied.
So Izunia whoever he truly is did not ascend to it rightfully, he betrayed his way to it
I remember that Nomura once said that the history of this FF was inspired by the book of Shakespeare Hamlet so i think it's a very big probability that noctis is part of the family of Ardyn
kkguate00 i Think that Ardyn is Noctis great great great great Uncle. Izunia was Ardyn Brother/Sister
Which could also end up making the contrast between Regis/Noctis, and Ardyn/Izunia.
Whats is the song at 6:00 because is didnt find at OST
Let's recap:
Regis: How many more must die before you are satisfied?
???: I have seen many deaths, but now I'm looking forward to one. Then I can rest.
Regis: He will take responsibility.
???: As must we all.
Regis: May the Gods forgive me.
What if the person Regis was talking to was Ardyn or (and this is more likely) this Izunia character?
Steven Heymann it's probably bahaumat
Probabbly Bahamut or one of past kings of Lucis
