come to think of it..they made mercurys with the glass top known as the sun valley ....and some dealer promotion cars like this also came with a glass partition in the hood to show off the new y blocks
Also the first year for the new ball joint front suspension. My favorite year old Ford, either a Victoria or Skyliner, but I think the '54 is better than the '52-'53, and they make a nice mild custom also, in the factory color Cadet Blue! 🧏♂️
I had one of those back in high school. Mine was black with a white top and red/white interior. I had put a '57 Ford 312 engine in it with the Paxton supercharger. The car had the 3-speed manual transmission with OD. Last I knew, the car still exists today.
@@GillansGarage It did. I bought the car with the 239 "Y" block still in it but it had thrown a rod through the block. I found a '57 Ford Fairlane 500 that had the 312, with Paxton Supercharger, at a salvage yard. The car had been hit hard in the rear and passenger side and the frame was damaged. I bought that car for $300. My dad helped me do a mild rebuild, on the engine, and we put that setup in the '54 Ford. We then parted out all the useable parts from the '57 at a $150 profit. Initially, the '54 had fuel supply problems. We switched the fuel line to 3/8 instead of 5/16 and installed a dual-action fuel pump for a HD truck. Of course the first obstacle was changing the '54 to a 12v electrical system instead of 6v. We also used the rear differential from the '57 Ford but we had to narrow the housing and find shorter axle shafts. At another salvage yard, we found a 9" 4:11 gears setup from a 1957 6cyl F100 p/u truck. We also located a set of 15x7 wheels from a '57 Ford Ranch Wagon and bought a set of 700-15 Goodyear Bluestreak tires. Baby moon hubcaps, painted the wheels red and stainless wheel trim rings. Of course dual exhaust with I recall were Jardine or Doug Thorley headers. I hated selling the car but I enlisted into the US Army shortly after high school.
@@sergeantmasson3669 Sounds like a fantastic car!! That ‘57 Fairlane would have been worth big bucks today!! But it sounds like you should be trying to buy your old car back, there’s a lot of good memories there!!
@@GillansGarage I've made an offer to buy it back but the current owner is unsure if he wants to sell it. I've already got 9 fully restored vintage/classic high-performance Ford vehicles. The '54 Ford's owner might be interested in swapping it for my fully restored 1947 Ford farm tractor. I'd do that trade in a heartbeat because I very rarely do anything with the tractor anymore.

I still have this car with the glass top father passed away in 93 it’s been sitting in storage since sitting with pounds of dust on it but I Know forsure some fresh gas and new oil new battery it will start and get going not a spot of rust on that thing I swear
Very nice! They’re a lot of fun to cruise in. What color is yours? When you get it going you could bring to the Ford Nationals in Carlisle PA is that’s at all close to you.
They made 13,344 Skyliner’s in 1954. However not all come with all the power options. Ford didn’t keep great records back in those days to be able to break down the production number further based on options.
Gorgeous car. I always liked the coral and white sand color combination.
Thank you!!
Beautiful cameo corral and sandstone white skyliner!
Thank you!!
That's cameo coral. A corral is what you keep your horses in.

That is correct, I know where there’s a Mercury Sun Valley. I just saw some pictures of the glass portion in the hood the other day.
That glass roof must be hell in the summertime if you don't have A/C.
Not going to lie… it’s a bit toasty!!
