Stunning 1958 Fairlane. Gulfstream Blue is my FAVOURITE colour on this year Ford. I once owned an AMT/SMP model of a 1958 Sunliner and this is the exact colour combo I painted it!! My first car was also a 58 - the Skyliner model! This was in 1962. Pretty heady stuff. I tried to make it go fast, as street racing (the real kind) was what we were about. Any red light might present a new opportunity. A squint eyed glance at the other driver, a rev or two, and IT WAS ON. Only......my Skyliner, while beautiful in it's Royal Metallic Blue Paint and a total chick magnet (almost as good as a Vette), was a stone. The 352 4 barrel even though modified with 370s out back was no match for the weight of the car. It was kind of like 1990s and 2000s Lincolns with the 4.6. Too much weight, too little torque and horsepower to get it done. I became quite familiar with the taillights of Chevies. Still, I loved that car! It was almost majestic going down the highway at speed. At the risk of offending everyone, I would add this opinion: The front end and side views were terrific, but I always thought the 57s had a nice tail end with the rounded headlights. I suspect others thought that as well because Ford went back to the rounded jet turbine look for the 59s.

Uncle had a 4 door 1958 Ford Fairlane Town Victoria. Seaspray Green body and Colonial White roof and inside the oval. 4 door hardtop. Rare model. This was the middle line of the 1958 Fords. Between the Custom 300 and the Fairlane 500. The Custom 300 and Fairlane 500 also had the gold trim on the sides. The Fairlane did not have gold trim. It had a stainless oval style of trim that inside of the oval had the same color as the roof. Rusted top of the front headlights due to road grime and snow caught under the front headlights. The area above the rear wheels rusted.

Doesn't get any better. 1958 was a big year for Ford engine engineering, introducing its new FE (which this car has) and MEL series engines, which powered countless Ford products through the 60's and with the FE, into the late 70's. Much better engines than the old Y-block family they replaced. Again, this car is just amazing...congrats to the lucky owner! And BTW, the little 'atmospherical' vignette of the spaghetti house was fun...who doesn't remember 1960's spaghetti houses?...might be a good addition to your future Joyrides where we get to see a little bit of the environment these cars lived in!

Charles, that has to be THE most gorgeous Fairlane of any vintage that I have ever seen!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us! And Vince's Spaghetti looks good enough to warrant the three day trip from Ohio!!! At least you didn't lose that FABULOUS meatball to the floor! I love your channel and am looking forward to many more Space Age trips down memory lane!
    I KNOW................

I'm not much of a Ford fan, but that car is beautiful. Thanks so much. 🙏

I found your channel astonishing. After checking Plan 59 site You Tube needs something like this.

Just came across you. I like you, your a funny guy 😀🤚. I’m a 1954 Ford guy and of course I grew up in the 50s so I’ve always had a passion for those old fords, Buicks and Mercurys not so much the Chevys. I have subscribed.

Every bit as good looking as a '58 Impala.

The chrome around the headlights is aftermarket. These were a facelift on the all new including frame and suspension 1957's. The V8 was the first year of the larger V8 series he referred to. One with those options, particularly the AC (not integrated, but integrated controls) is a great find.

So I wasn't the only one to notice the air conditioner type. The factory installed A/C had its outlets at the base of the windshield, as did the '57. (55 and 56 exited on either side of the radio speaker at the top of the dash). The '59 went to this style of outlet. My guess is that this was a dealer installed system, issued by Ford accessories. Note the outside of the passenger door, just below the vent window. The badge denoting air conditioning installed badge is present. That, or someone did a masterful job of integrating 58 and 59 parts to build a complete, functional system, still using all contemporary Ford parts. Nice work either way!

I stand corrected on my earlier reply to this point. I have the factory parts manuals for this car, and I have discovered that Ford DID switch from the windshield outlets to the lower outlets in this video for the 1958 model year, even though the instrument panels are basically the same. The center duct had a revision done for '59. This '58 has a factory installed system.

So true about the headlight doors. The first thing I did to my 58 was to have those chromed. :-))))))

Fairlane. The actual name of Mr. Ford’s house.
