I feel like the family probably needs some credit. Trey is a pretty happy guy, and I feel it's partially because he's just treated with respect and love.

To be fair chromosomal deletion disorders can also contribute to a happy personality, for example Angelmann's Syndrome caused by a loss of function of Chromosome 15 has this effect. This isn't in any way to take away from the importance of a supportive loving family in living a good life but it did strike me immediately that his demeanour is likely heavily a result of chromosomal deletion.
I think that he'd be loving either way.
Imagine if everyone was as happy, friendly, non discriminating and accepting as Trey. Trey, you are amazing!

When he asked “Is he this friendly with everybody?” at 6:24 the way Trey looked at him and nodded for confirmation was so sweet. I love this compassionate interviewer. Always makes my day!

I'm so proud of my non-verbal son progressing in school. I'm going to show him this boy; trey is so intelligent because you can see he is communicating with his eyes, let alone his signs.

Have they tried a speaking device for him? His understanding is great. Imagine he would learn to communicate more detailed with an device working with pictures. He would explode being super happy! 😍
i'm not an expert in disabilities but i know even if someone has working hands or eyes it can be hard to get someone to communicate in a way that's new to them, and for some people they just don't pick it up that easy. But that's just a huge huge guess on my part, its hard to see somoene's whole life in a ten minute video haha

I guess they tried it at school and at home. Maybe he didn’t response to it. I was just wondering, why they didn’t speak about his communication journey that much, but he’s happy anyways and that is great to see. ☺️ and maybe someday he will find a way to communicate more detailed.
I was wondering that too. He obviously understand language and all the words being said to him. It would have been nice to hear more about how he is being educated. And I would imagine such a device you mentioned could open his world up more.
How is he to ask questions? I would think he does have questions and curiosity about things.
I think basically you and I and probably others are hoping that he is living up to his potential and getting all the help he can to expand his world.
He seems like he is happy and well cared for.
@@helenasatire5848 I’m not sure he has the fine motor there, but he could possibly have some modified signs! Also with his use of ice there are special computers now period we got some amazing tech

This boy is such a beautiful example of a human being, he is not at all disabled. He is enabled to see everyone with love, a very special gift to the world this made me cry
I think you said that beautifully. When you look at some humans today being unnecessarily hurtful, violent, etc. - those are the mentally and emotionally challenged people. Not someone that is so genuinely loving and sweet.
This guy’s eye contact is phenomenal. He really knows how to make people feel welcome and comfortable around him.

I love that whenever I watch an SBSK video there always seems to be a focus on showing us how to form bonds without “typical” communication bc I feel like ppl with disabilities especially if they struggle with verbal communication get ignored and ppl assume they don’t need to bond with ppl.
It's horrible! Even if you are nonverbal and highly intelligent, a lot of people have a lot of prejudice and assumptions of people with disabilities. I have autism but I am about to graduate university with a degree in physical anthropology. I am engaged and going to go onto teaching biology at university in the next year ( hopefully they accept me haha). I agree even if you can't communicate like a 'normal' person, no one deserves to be left out and given up on! We all deserve a chance. Hope you are doing well :)
I feel like a huge part of that is people underestimating their level of cognition and intellect due to the fact that they are nonverbal without considering it is well within the realm of possibility to have brain dysfunction that impedes speech without negatively impacting their intelligence. If i'm being honest it's a mistake I made in my own childhood purely out of ignorance.

Trey seems absolutely lovely! i know a little girl with autism and she's nonverbal too, even without that form of communication she's so full of life and finds all sorts of ways to communicate. Hoping you make many many amazing friends throughout life Trey!!!

Chris deserves a lot of respect for his dedication, kindness, and understanding. Most people would feel uncomfortable in certain situations, especially when your personal space is being encroached upon. He just goes with it. I'm in the medical field. I've been in very uncomfortable situations, and I did not handle it as well as Chris does. 🤗

I didn’t know mosaic trisomy 1 wasn’t lethal, let alone 1, 2, and 20. You learn something new every day.
Two things:
First, from what I can gather, this is not a trisomy. A trisomy would be having an extra chromosome, hence tri meaning three. This is missing a chromosome rather than an extra.
Second, they mentioned nothing if this being a mosaic genetic condition, which would be when some cells in the body have the genetic abnormality and other cells do not. Is this mosaic or does it effect all of the cells? It seems that the abnormality occurred very early in fetal development it wouldn’t be, but if it occurred sometime later in development when cells are already clearly differentiated then it might be mosaic

Oh, monosomy, I’m sorry. I’m pretty sure that makes survival even LESS likely than with trisomy, mosaic or not?
@@happypiano4810 I'm assuming there's a deletion of a segment of all three chromosomes, ie partial monosomy. indeed survival isn't possible with complete monosomy of these chromosomes.

It's so easy to watch this video and miss just how aware Trey is of what's going on around him and the conversations being had. I had to watch this one twice just to look for some of the things I saw other people had noticed in the comments. It's pretty awesome that he has at least a reasonable level of cognition and yet is still so outwardly happy.

My son Tyler has missing chromosome also. Maybe he is in the group of ten. He is also very happy. Although my story is hard because the state had him. He is 27 in a group home. I video chat and get pictures. Thought he was autistic for a long time. State thought it was behavioral issues. I fought the state for years. God bless your family

I'm someone who gets really anxious about being touched, and I have such admiration for the interviewer too; he was just so sweet and comfortable with Trey. I feel like I've gained something just from watching this. I can't really explain. But thank you to the interviewer and especially thank you to Trey and his mom! ❤

After seeing this young man's joy, I am suddenly not a big fan of chromosomes 1,2 and 20.
I absolutely love what you are doing as well as these wonderful families. There was a time, not so long ago, where the general public had no idea about the lives of individuals born with these issues. I can say as a lifelong neuro-divergent individual with depression and anxiety, there is something to be said about the inability to understand evil as long as you have loving guardians.
