    I had fun doing this a while back, wish I took a more organized approach in the beginning like you did! Quickly realized I had no idea which pokemon were gen 4 and which were gen 5. Three 500 card binders has me covered - near perfectly fits gens 1-4 in first, 5-8 in second (including sections for Alolan, Hisuian, and Gigantamax), and a new one for Paldea. Cheap trainer gallery cards are a blessing for this.

      Really looking forward to filling out 3 binders!! But gen 5 and 7 will give me some trouble since I skipped out on those games. Thanks for watching.

    I got back into collecting in July and found Paldea Evolved very fun to collect and complete as I played Scarlet.
    But with all the following sets coming out, I was spending lots and lots of money thinking I “had to” collect and complete those sets as well. I don’t.
    But I do like having tangible cards and something beautiful in my hand, so I asked myself: What’s something I really enjoyed with Pokémon in general? The answer was simple; playing, collecting, and completing the Pokédex in the games. So after a little more thought, I decided to complete Paldea Evolved and 151, but I would focus on creating a Pokédex of my favorite regions/generations. So I set out to create a Pokédex for Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Hisui, and Paldea in three binders total. These were the games I had most fun playing those games as a kid and now as an adult.
    I went one step further than keeping the regular "basic" Pokemon cards. I absolutely adore the illustration cards and decided to upgrade every card that had an illustration card (or a V, VMAX, GX, etc) I liked. It really changed the way I collect now, and I'm getting so much more enjoyment from slowly collecting the singles than I would from feeling like I had to collect everything in a newly released set.

      Great to hear! I had exactly the same thought process. Personally I enjoy playing the video games more than collecting cards so I too felt master sets were not my cup of tea but I always found joy in completing the in-game pokedex. Now we're on the same journey but with pokemon cards.

    I myself am about 400 cards in and started part way through last year. Slow proccess but its gotten me actually into the card game itself as well which is great!

      Same here, after collecting for a while I too got back into the actual card game for a short period. Which helps me appreciate pokemon cards outside of just their artwork.

    Ive been working on a National Pokedex binder on and off since I was a kid but last year I got serious about completing every generation I had incomplete and keeping up on it moving forward. I have specific rules for mine though.
    1. The card MUST be the first normal print card that that pokemon had released. Meaning it must be a common, uncommon, rare, rare holo, promo, promo holo, or deck card. No dark/light pokemon, ex, delta, full art or any other card along those lines.
    2. The card MUST be from a set from the same generation that the pokemon debuted in (Pikachu cannot be a card from a gen 4 set, must be his first card from a Gen 1 set for example). The only card that gets an exception here so far is Eternatus, as its first normal print card is from the upcoming Surging Sparks Gen 9 set.
    3. It must be a "pack pull" card, a card from an actual set, and this is the priority. Promo and deck cards are last resort if the pokemon never gets its first normal print card from an actual set. Cards in my collection that fall under this exception is Mew (WoTC black star promo #9, and the Latios and Latias DVD movie promo cards. The first pack pull cards for these pokemon were cards from sets for later generations, violating the above rule #2)
    4. I always go for the highest rarity and the holo. Some pokemon have more than one card in their first set. If differing rarity, I go for the highest rarity. And if there are two cards in the set, one non holo and the other holo, i go for the holo. If both cards are the same rarity and/or both are holographic, I go for the art that I like the most at that point. TLDR; highest rarity and always the holo.
    5. Card must be in english
    With these rules, it pretty much narrows down the card for each pokmon to choose from. Also, with these rules, all the cards for each generation have the same look and layout. Each generation of cards also has a distinct holographic pattern, so it keeps that in line as well.
    As of now I have every generation done, with the exception of Eternatus, Hydrapple, Gouging Fire, Iron Crown and Terapagos. For Pecharunt, i have the normal print promo in my binder for now, as it has not had a normal print card released in an actual set. It may end up being the permanent card I'm going to use by the time gen 9 is over, similar to Mew, Latias and Latios.
    Bulbapedia has been an excellent resource to determine what cards I should be using.

    This is how I’ve always organized my cards when I was younger! But I kind of want to go back and reorganize my collection. Does anyone have advice on sorting by national dex number, while also displaying multiple different cards of a pokemon? But I feel like it’s quite troublesome when you have like 12 pikachus, all from different sets. I guess I’m thinking sorting by dex number and by a pokemon species in set order while leaving some space for future cards? Or does that sound unreasonable/not pretty? Or is there an easier way to do this? It just feels like such a waste to only display 1 card for a pokemon when there’s so many good arts.

    • @PokemonEliteTrainer
      @PokemonEliteTrainer  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I know that struggle you are asking about. Your idea of leaving some empty space for future cards isn't a bad idea. But personally for me I just decided to keep those extra cards in another binder since I am collecting other cards that don't fit in the national dex theme binder.

    • @PokeDocu
      @PokeDocu หลายเดือนก่อน

      What I personally do is I have a single National Dex Binder (1000+ slots) with my favourite card of each Pokemon inside, sorted by dex number of course. Then all the rest cards I sort them by Pokémon type. I plan to buy different coloured binders to represent each pokemon type (purple for Psychic, red for Fire etc.) and put the rest pokemon inside. For example if I have 10 different Pikachus, I’ll put them in the Lightning type binder. And all the duplicates in a card box for trading/giving away. Hope this helps!

      @@PokemonEliteTrainer I also forgot I have a whole binder thing going on with a page for every Pokemon (like really extensive Pokédex). I think most regular cards just don't get enough love. I'm in Japan at least once a year and you can't some good deals there and also bulk is much cheaper. I have yet to find a way to share my collection with the world because as much as I enjoy it, I also kinda like to show it off and its hard to connect on that (I don't want nor can I take these binders to any card show and stuff like that)

    • @PokemonEliteTrainer
      @PokemonEliteTrainer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This national deck binder has definitely made me appreciate regular cards more since I’m always looking to rotate cards out if a better art work comes out. But share it on TH-cam? It’s hard to carry around multiple binders.
