Very cool to see these beautiful artworks! But you can see the Japanese big 3 the Pokémon are a bit more “zoomed in” than the English side by side. Preference for me are those sparkly Japanese borders, the feel is a bit more classy and upscale than the English version.
Magic 30 should've been like this. The decks, the layout, everything. $400 for something really, really cool as opposed to $1K for a few packs of sadness.

Just preordered for myself. Now that I’m older I’ve been waiting for a box like this to have all the base set originals in one. $400 is a small price to pay to relive my childhood. It’ll be a great Christmas present to open for myself. Excited!
I feel ya man if I was gonna shell out 4 to 500 it would be on the og versions not jus another reprint they are kool n beautiful cards but I prefer the old 1s I had as a kid. This might be kool 4 collectors with a lot of cash 2 throw around unfortunately that ain't me gotta save up 4 stuff.

Gotta say, Rev when I first seen these I was disappointed the English cards weren’t getting the shiny borders. But after seeing them on camera I prefer the English prints for the more classic look as you mentioned which means a lot to me as I started collecting at 10 with Base set and prefer the traditional look that’s just a little more spicy.
I was not going to buy this set but I think I will now! Just looking at the upgraded holos they did is outstanding, these are how the newer cards should look too, I get they want to go in a different direction with Scarlet and Violet but I personally think they should do a full new set with the classic card designs it be so nostalgic ❤
Ive been following this collection box all year and finally purchased it at what i think is the lowest price. Sam's Club has it for $194, non members have to pay $20 extra at checkout but it brings it just under $250 after tax and shipping. I think its a great deal at that price
I have always like the Japanese cards with the Silver boarders. I am glad to see English move in that direction. Holo on the edges would make more sense for the price, but all the cars look sick.
Ended up buying the Japanese version after watching you open it. The cards are so vibrant and sparkly, but it's nice seeing the English side to it as well.
I'm not a long-time collector or even knowledgeable on anything Pokémon but if "value" was equal across the board, Japanese cards would be the way I would lean towards. In my opinion, the overall quality of the cards is night and day when compared to the English versions. To me, it almost feels like the English market is based on financial gain and massive turnarounds, whereas the Japanese market seems to be more focused on the beauty and quality of the product.
isn't it just really cool how Mitsuhiro Arita has been one of the main artists for the TCG since the 1st gen? another veteran would be yuka morii, which I (am pretty sure) worked on the expedition set.
From the standpoint of nostalgia as an American consumer, I don’t mind the yellow borders because it’s closer to the way they were originally printed in english
For me personally, the yellow borders represent nostalgia and just give off an amazing old school vibe but those japanese silver border trainer cards are fucking gorgeous
English man. the yellow brings back that nostalgia for those cards like Squirtle, and Wartortle. Cards we had as kids but NOW they are holographic, it makes them feel a little more special. The Japanese cards are quite attractive there is no doubt there, it brings out the "Ooooooh Shiny!" in me yet i still love to see that solid yellow border. When i was a kid and the EX cards started coming out, I collected a few but I stopped buying them because I didn't like the lines at the bottom of the card that you could swipe into the E reader thing.. stupid me though, because if i wouldn't have stopped i'm sure i would have a decent collection of classic cards. I'm half tempted to buy this just to hang on to for 20 years

Wash considering buying this but it doesn’t have all the base set Pokémon. Pidgey, Gastly, Abra and other cards or evolutions. Doesn’t feel complete and wouldn’t justify the price. Not fussed about the borders, it gives more original feel
Voltorb and electrode are the first two cards I bought from this box, I always thought that electrode should have been holo when I was a kid and now finally seeing it holo is impressive!
Both sets have the positives. The Japanese set with the shiny borders but thd english set looks more old school, really going for the classic look ❤ . I'm not sure I'd part with 400 quid for the set.
I agree that the words on the border makes the cards look cheap and almost like they’re not legit. Glad you compared them though! I’m learning Japanese so ima make it a goal to keep going in learning Japanese to the point that I can read Pokémon cards and I’ll reward myself with the Japanese version! Thanks! At first we thought the English version wouldn't have the holo pattern since the scans didn't have the holo, I'm glad it does. Although it's the classic tale of Japanese cards is ALWAYS better than English in both quality and printing.

That was exactly their intention. Each card has the border it had at original printing. Hence the switch card having a different border

I think the gold and silver borders are better. Especially when they're made to match the hollow.
I think I prefer the OG borders this time. It just feels right with the REAL OGs. It is the classic collection and not the flashy collection. 😎
