    Me *comes to video knowing absolutely NOTHING about the arichidonic acid pathway*
    MP *makes 18 minute video full of freaking magic*
    Me *leaves at end of video feeling like a subject matter expert*
    I know this is a 4 year old video but still. You do incredibly important work here, man! Thank you!

    • @ricardobaroni1714
      @ricardobaroni1714 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MedicosisPerfectionalis Because ASA inhibits the COX pathway, consequentely inhibits the production of prostaglandins, wich are responsable for the production of mucus. Sorry for my english, I am still learning haha

    one explanation i came across with aspirin is that platelets can not generate their own TXA2 so TXA2 is not replaced, whereas endothelial tissue can generate more PGI2 despite Aspirin inhibition, hence PGI2>TXA2 in the presence of LOW dose aspirin. HIGH dose aspirin will inhibit both.

    About the anti-platelet activity of aspirin, despite its inhibition on prostacyclin synthesis, I found this piece of information in Voet's Principles of Biochemistry: "Vascular endothelial cells are not so drastically affected, since, for the most part, they are far from the site where aspirin is absorbed, are exposed to lesser concentrations of aspirin and, in any case, can synthesize additional PGH2 synthase".
