I'd love to see a plot twist character like this: a parental figure who the audience just thinks is overbearing or misguided, but they're actually evil.
It would've been such a fun contrast to have this followed by the reprise of "Mother Knows Best" as we see Gothel become more sinister and less playfully degrading.

Really highlights that except for the whole kidnapping thing she's actually not that bad of a mother like it's easy for stepmother is like lady Tremaine to be actually neglectful or what not but Rapunzel wasn't neglected she was fed she was even allowed to practice all her hobbies and skills and talents and I genuinely think that gothel even with emotionally close with her like she knows what her favorite stuff is Tears of joy she's still like gas lighter and a manipulator and you know there is still the whole kidnapping prisoner and using her thing but I mean she was still more of a mother than a lot of evil Disney stepmother figures Tears of joy it would have been easy to not take care of Rapunzel at all to just keep her locked in the tower keep her the servant have her do work for you but it doesn't seem like that's the case Gotham goes out and does stuff on her own she buys Rapunzel stuff that definitely costs money I'm guessing she knows her favorite foods and feeds her and takes care of her Rapunzel's healthy except for the hair but there's not much you can do about that Tears of joy Rapunzel genuinely loved her in the beginning yeah people say it's awful that you put Rapunzel down but she does say that's teething and I can believe that due to my relationship with my parents that is a thing some parents and kids to do with each other it just looks bad in the context because you know golf is evil Tears of joy but I genuinely think that Gotham did care about her beyond just the hair like people say in the movie it's shown that anytime she shows Rapunzel affection she's only showing it to the hair but also I'm sorry but if this was just her serving girl just being used another girl would not know her favorite soup would not indulge paintings that cover the house would not go to whatever expense you went to for that Rapunzel had all these millions of talents and skills and hobbies and stuff she would have been just kept up there without much like Cinderella Tears of joy it's honestly an even more scary take on bad parents then the typical evil stepmother character because they don't have the complication of loyalty or love built up that a person like gothel would it's easy to say goodbye to the evil queen or lady Tremaine and never come back but Rapunzel genuinely cared about her mother and her mother even might have cared about her and that's what makes the struggle all that much worse

She basically did just enough to keep Rapunzel happy enough to not leave, but even getting her things was just a way to make her stay. She calls her flower. Which is how she sees her. She loves her flower, but only as long as the flower is doing what she says, and making her beautiful and young.
@Rivers Grace and like I said that's kind of the most terrifying thing about her that it kind of worked like Rapunzel completely trusted her and loved her up until finding out she'd been kidnapped and you know if you want to be cynical about it you could read that as a child trusting their parent up until finding out they were adopted and then having a crisis and being a jerk about it of course that's not what's happening here Rapunzel's not the bad person in this story But also some of this kind of feels like Overkill like there's no need to go through all of this just to keep Rapunzel happy she does so so much and like I can legitimately see her comforting young Rapunzel if she like fell in the tower and scraped her knee or something And I haven't watched the furious due to its lack of audio description thanks for that Disney Plus so I have no idea about Cassandra But anyway that's what I'm saying cuz like we've seen the bad figure parent before and none of them are like this lady Tremaine isn't like this even though she also wants to keep Cinderella under her role the evil queen with never like this before she decided to kill Snow White But I genuinely don't believe that it's possible for them to have this relationship like they did and they're to be absolutely zero feeling there even if it is tucked behind other motivations again the panic in her voice when she found Maximus it was worried and I genuinely believe it was worried for Rapunzel safety and not just that her little trick for staying young had been discovered I mean she already has Rapunzel stuck in the tower Rapunzel can't leave she breaked up the door at some point so all of this stuff just to keep Rapunzel in the tower seems like she's doing way too much for something she doesn't think she has to worry about it all And then there's the whole going on a 3-day trip just to get the white shell paint or whatever it was which like clearly Rapunzel has other paints so it's not just that she's getting paint for Rapunzel to distract her this is a specific specialty paint that she brought her once as a gift and is willing to go and get her again just to keep her happy and that's after they had a fight and after she's worried about leaving her because she thinks her pencil might run away possibly or at least she's worried that Rapunzel wants to leave and she still willing to fall for this trick and go on a three day trip and it would have worked if she hadn't seen Maximus I mean let's compare to your analogy of the real world if there's a difference between getting your kid an iPad for them to play with and say enrolling them in expensive extracurricular activities There's a difference between buying your child a SketchBook and letting them paint literally every single wall in the house And how did Rapunzel learn to do all of this by the way you think she self-taught herself or did mother gothel actually sit there and teach her how to do all of the things she knows how to do Maybe it's just me and I read way too much into voices than facial expressions due to being blind but even that flashback of young Rapunzel with mother gothel and the way mother gothel spoke to her didn't sound like an evil stepmother kind of there with genuine affection in her voice I could hear it But anyway weather of genuine affection or not I'm still saying that's the why she's a lot scarier than lady Tremaine the evil queen or whoever else you want to toss in there

Lyrically it’s good and the beat is more upbeat as if she’s being still bubbly and loving but she does give a narcissistic undertones which is perfect for her. Now for Maui he isn’t a villain no, but he was the problem in the movie, he stole the heart of Tafiti to get attention and to be known while mother nature crumbles to darkness, but then of course he gets persuaded through by Moana with the power of friendship and becomes a good guy after accepting his wrong doings and helps restore the heart, and apologizing.
