I think gothel was a follower of zhan tiri but she only followed her to learn I think gothel only followed zhan tiri to learn about the sun drop probably when gothel found out that the sun drop could restore youth she used the it. i feel like gothel only followed zhan tiri for information and we never see gothel attempt to bring back zhan tiri like the other disciples
When comes to her hatred of Cassandra, I think Gothel may have actually fallen in love with a man who only cared about her looks or just wanted one thing from her. (We know what it is. I'm not gonna say it) Then at one point, the man found out that either she was pregnant or her real age and left her. I say that because in the reprise of Mother Knows Best, she sings, "This is why he's here, don't let him deceive you. Give it to him, watch you'll see" "Trust me, my dear. That's how fast he'll leave you." I know she was using that to try and convince Rapunzel to return to the tower, while giving her a warning that Eugene will betray her once he has the crown. But she may have also been subtly hinting she had gone through such a betrayal. She opened her heart for the 1st time in centuries and paid the price. Cassandra is nothing but a reminder of what happened when she let herself feel love for anyone but herself. But why would she head back to her cabin after grabbing Rapunzel other than to lead the guards to where she maybe able to cut them off and buy more time? I believe, she may have gone back to grab her daughter so Cassandra would care for Rapunzel while she went out to do....whatever she did when she wasn't in the tower. Maybe with a "sister", Rapunzel wouldn't want to leave the tower as she would have someone to play with, while simultaneously having someone she could talk to who, for the love of her mother, convince Rapunzel that it is too dangerous for them to go out. If that was the case, then when Rapunzel and Cassandra may have locked Eugene up until Gothel arrived and she may have even killed Eugene or maybe turned him in for reward money that she could spend on herself. But because the guards were too close, she wouldn't have time to grab Cassandra and just abandoned her, probably not even caring if the guards would take her away and raise her. As a bonus, she was free to manipulate Rapunzel as she pleased without the risk that her "lousy little pest" of a daughter would spill the beans and reveal who Rapunzel really was. That's my theory. It may not be great, but here it is. Hope you liked it.
I seriously think Mother Gothel can bring all the other wicked stepmothers of Disney to shame...maybe not the Evil Queen, but still...the way she manipulates and treats Rapunzel and Cassandra, acting as a caring mother, but also a control freak. Plus she has such a hunger for power, which all the other wicked stepmother do as well, but what she does to get it is truly diabolical...
Maybe she's also a godmother , because that's what her original name, DAME Gothel meant. In fact, she could also be Rapunzel's fairy (or hairy) godmother. What do you think?

What if the only reason Gothel had Cass was to be a vessel of sorts? Gothel could have been looking for a way to transfer her spirit to Cass' body and start over, the Sundrop only being a method to keep herself young enough until she found a way. When the flower was stolen, Gothel had to give up on that plan as she had no way to do it.
Creepy, dark and... utterly believeable! For some reason, I had a nasty feeling why Gothel kept Cass around despite the fact she hated her so much. Then, you brought it up and it just made sense! That Wither and Decay spell could've been altered to rip Cass's soul from her body to allow Gothel to posses it; the Sundrop, as powerful as it is, only prolonged the inevitable with Gothel's body, and we saw the result when she touched Rap's hair after Eugene cut it! 0.0
I think that mother gothel’s vanity wouldn’t oet her transfer her soul into a new body... I feel like there’s a spell, like the sun drop, that can transfer life force but a distorted version that steals a living being’s life force... that’s whe she kept cass as some kind of emergency battery
@@kaytlinjustis5643 I don't think the Hurt Incantation is capable of doing that, it can harm a living being to the point of death. Which means trying to transfer her soul into a dead body won't re-animate it.
But in the movie it s clear that Gothel found the flower before the founding of Corona while in the flashbacks it is shown that Corona already exists the timeline doesn't really add up, my theory is that she found the flower and knew of the healing incantation by herself but soon found Lord Demenitus and Zhan Tiri looking for it so she decided to join them as their pupil as a way to protect her flower and stealing their research for herself. After Zhan Tiri got vanished Gothel went into hiding and had Cassandra, going out often to search for the moonstone herself.
i think during that time when mother gothel have found the flower, Corona was still small, not a huge building of a kingdom, this is why we have the part that is Old Corona where Varian lives. It could be the hometown of Lord Demenitus and was starting to become a kingdom.. But i guess this Theory is possible too...
@Kin Man yeah, she has no use for it so why bother finding it. Probably when she found out the moonstone is only capable of destruction, she rather have the sundrop instead.. She is pretty vain.
How could she know about the healing incantation all by herself, she’s not a witch, or at least not a great one, like Zhan Tiri, nor a scientist, like Demanitus. She’s more like a normal woman who does whatever she can to get some benefits for her own beauty.
Her actual backstory is written in a book called “mother knows best” in the villains series but who knows im not sure if it’s canon but it’s a real book approved by disney

For someone that supposedly truly hated her daughter for a moment Mother Gothel did appear to struggle making the decision to leave Cassandra, but of course she did ultimately revert to her true selfish persona and did such a thing. Of course one would have to wonder the thoughts going through Gothel's head during that moment of struggle, was it actually a love moment towards Cassandra or was it a damn! I had a good slave for a time, but now until this little brat that I'm holding grows up a little I have to do all of the chores that I had that lousy, little, pest do for me.
Idk I think her natural mother instincts kicked in just for that single second. She didn't look annoyed, she looked slightly worried. But ofc she's an evil witch at heart so she had to turn those feelings off and get the heck out of there
I think most of Gothel’s thoughts was she was caught and had to figure out a way to get out of there. She was maybe also thinking would Cass be useful to her or would she get in the way. I think that is where some of her struggle came from is wondering if Cass would be useful
Surprise mother Gothel never tried to move the flower to a new location. I guess it risky because u don’t want to kill the flower. But if she had taken and dug a lot of the dirt around it and was careful not to destroy the root she might of been able to transplant the flower behind her cottage or in a pot and it probably would of never been discovered xD
You gotta realize that even back then? People had no way of moving a plant (let alone a flower.) from one place to another. I mean look at the romans and how they treat now extinct flowers from the past. Also, even if there were some people who know how to remove a flower from the ground without ruining the roots. It was better at the time to not touch plants. I mean they live in a time where they though the earth was flat and believed the Earth was the center of the universe and the sun revolve around our planet and not the other way around. It’s complicated.

Alena Conrad I know. XD Also, funny enough Mother Gothel may have a form of Lima Syndrome the minute she started kidnapping her as a baby and rising her better than her own biological daughter. I mean outside of the animated series revealing more backstory about her personality and life before Rapunzel. I think her rising Rapunzel could have mentally changed her into a Pseudo motherly refigure right down to almost killing Rapunzel‘s boyfriend just to tell her to get back to the tower. Excusing the eternal youth hair here. She kinda became one of those crazy insane over protective moms that cared so much for a daughter that doesn’t belong to them that even murdering another human to basically break Rapunzel’s spirit just so she can finally get Rapunzel to *wake up* to the real world. Just hurts a bit for both of them at least. Rapunzel knew Mother Gothel all her life growing up it’s like an anime betrayal once she found out the real truth about her origins and to me. That is how you write a villain that you hate and feel sorry for when she finally kicked the bucket after Rapunzel’s long hair got cut off. Basically Mother Gothel cares for her captive a little too much. 😞
@@jor_ixsintaxx1238 No, it didn't. Them turning the flower into a powder for the mother to drink is what killed it. After that the remainder of the flower dried up since it no longer held magic. Transplanting it isn't what killed it, removing its magic killed it.
I agree that she was a disciple but I just feel that Cassandra was born for a reason. That the notes weren't just left preserved for nothing more than Gothel's ego. But that's my little theory. Anyway, love watching your theories, Issac.
Talk about the definition of vain, Gothel is the meaning of it. Putting personal interests before even her daughter...that is truly evil. And she cared about Rapunzel even less, due to her possessing the power of the Sundrop.

there’s actually a book called mother knows best. i’ve just started watching the video so i don’f know you if you mention it or not. but it was written by an author who was asked by disney to write a series and the book is considered canon. it has a lot about mother gothel’s childhood
As I had said in a previous video I think that, not only did she resent Cass for being a "drawback", I think that as Cass grew up she would see her as a competitor for admiration. While Gothel did have some attractive physical attributes it's pretty clear in the show that Cass was far more beautiful as her attributes came from within, ie bravery, loyalty, intelligence and humor. I think that, if Gothel saw and heard how lovely Cass grew up to be, she wouldn't bat an eyelash in finding a way to destroy/possibly kill her.
Looks like the Sundrop/Flower/Hair's youth restoring powers are temporary and she aged at an accelerated rate after each restoration. It would probably just stop working for her at some point.
Nothing is meant to last forever. The Sundrop may have rejuvenated her body, but it didn't turn back time for it. Whatever age she was in total each time she used it, it was still the true age of her body and so it was still going to break down degrade the way it was meant to. Literally, the only thing that kept that from happening from the magic of the Sundrop. Chances are it had gotten to the point where she had to use the incantation almost daily, (if not twice a week at least going from the movie), when Rapunzel eventually left the tower.
I have been wondering this myself. I would have thought that she would age naturally after the incantation was said and only have to repeat the incantation when she started to age again over the years.
I started getting the theory that Gothel periodically has a child over the centuries for the exact reason she had Cass doing chores that were too big for her, and Raps pretty much did everything around the tower that Gothel didn't feel like doing herself. Housework takes time, and she wants to live like a college student. When the kid gets big enough, they either run away to have a life of their own or she kicks them out for getting their own mind and to keep up her own charade of 'oh, I couldn't be that person's mother, I'm too young!', which is how she was so practiced at resisting itty bitty Cass's charm. My biggest reason for thinking this is Varian. Streaks in the hair aren't a very wide trait in the show, and even the colors are similar. I used to think that Varian and Cass were both her children, but when it hit that Gothel wouldn't bother with a boy when she had Raps to worry about, so I think it'd be very possible that he's a descendant of another kid she had, which is why he doesn't have as many streaks as Cassandra. And there have been recorded cases of family members falling in love with each other before they find out they're related because they can sense a connection. Or she did go ahead and have Varian, hence the missing mom, but dumped him with a note on his dad's doorstep since she can't be bothered to raise a boy when she has a flower to manipulate.
Abby Swayze oh, back then, when the movie was released, I hated Mother Gothel for the way she is. Now thanks to the TV series, I hate her most than before
When I watched the episode "Lost and Found", I heard the voices of the three followers summoning Zhan Tiri, and one of the voices definitely sounded like Gothel. But now that I know it was her voice actor who voiced the third follower in this episode, I'm fully convinced that Gothel is the third follower. And thanks for providing an idea as to why she never became a spirit like the other two. Since it could be that Gothel betrayed both Demanitus and Zhan Tiri, what if she was playing both sides the entire time, and was only out to gain power for herself to preserve her youthful beauty. This is just what I think.

I picture there being a point later in her life, that she just said the incantation to every golden flower she found, and imagine the bystanders: *Look at that crazy person talking to a flower*
When Mother Gothel was a student of 2 masters, when she betrayed them, she went through all that trouble within her perspective to stay alive, young and beautiful. Even as she despised Cassandra which I still find hurtful for poor Cass, we still don’t know who her biological father is!

What would have been really interesting, is if the solar eclipse over corona was a once in decade kind of thing and that Gothel returned at one point to research a way to extract the sun drop so that she could eventually discard Rapunzel. It would have tied in with the final episode of Zhan Tiri being inspired to use the same method, and would have shown how much more of a calculating heartless person Gothel was. I feel like the eclipse was just landed on us out of convenience, there really should have been more foreshadowing.

I believe that after Zhan Tiri was imprisoned, Gothel became the Evil Queen from Snow White in order to use the power and prestige as a way to have protection from Lord Demanitus and a way to get attention for her beauty. When things went south for her at the end of Snow White, she was stuck as an old woman and was unable to reach her potions at the castle. So she had to search for the sundrop in the nearby kingdom of Corona in order to regain her youth and beauty. After centuries, she eventually had Cass, kidnapped Rapunzel, and years later, finally had her karmic ending...

I said it before and I’ll say it again . Cassandra doesn’t see being abandoned for Repunzel as of being for her hair , she sees it as repunzel *besting* her again . If *everyone* said Repunzel was better than her to the point where her own Mother would leave her for Repunzel , than don’t you think maybe she’d think it’s because she’s being second bested again??
Okay but to be fair Gothel did try to just get some hair but that didn’t work she didn’t leave intending to abandon Cass and Kidnap a kid and fun fact the whole movie could have been avoided if Gothel had told Rupnzel her birthday was on a different day...
I absolutely agree that Gothel was a disciple if Zhan Tiri, nothing else makes sense otherwise (how would she have the knowledge that she does?); but I always wondered if Cassandra wasn't a product to try and harvest the moonstone as well? She had been handling the sundrop safely just fine, but she MUST have known that the moonstone would be dangerous, so it wasn't a priority compared to finding the sundrop. But once she finally had it, maybe she gave birth to Cassandra as a vessel to handle the moonstone? She wouldn't risk being destroyed, so why not use someone who would be devoted to her instead? But then Rapunzel happened and, well, she already has the sundrop, so maybe she can harness the moonstone too, when she finds it? (I believe that that's what she did whenever she left the tower) So yeah, no need for Cassandra anymore.
I read her about in a disney book, where disney wrote the biologies of the disney villains, so far, it is said, it is all because of her, her life is connected to all the disney villains. she has three sisters as witches, Gothel is also a witch the tower where she kept rapunzle wasnt her real home, the reason why she left the tower is to visit her forever asleep sisters. which they were hospitalized in a different house. It is also said that Rapunzle was sometimes dragged to the house were she hospitalized her sisters. The sun flower that was given to rapunzle was the last of her family heirloom. The flower was owned by her late mother who is a witch. The rest of the flowers were burned by the guards (or so what I remember). The reason why she kidnapped Rapunzle was because the sun flower. It is said by her mother to her that the flower can heal, thats why she kidnapped rapunzle... I only remember a little because it was 2019 when I borrowed the book from my school library. The book title was "Mother know's Best" By Serena Valentino... New subscriber BTW!
Good video. I was blown away by Tangled the series. It's the only Disney series 'sequel' that actually explores and expands the mythology in a meaningful way. Not to mention the character development and music is top notch. One thing that's missing is Mother Gothel's motivation. She hoarded the sunflower for who knows how long, and what did she do with it? Make a room of magic mirrors and get off on compliments from the fishmonger? What was she really after? She had all the power and did nothing with it. She didn't really become an impressive sorceress. I wish they had expanded more on her history and given her an agenda bigger than magical plastic surgery. The series is really Cassandra's journey. Anyone notice how Rapunzel doesn't really develop as a character? The most compelling character arc is Cassandra.

Okay, that's the theory. Could ZT have persuaded Demenituse's students to betray him by manipulating them, as she had done with Cassandra, until they became what they were now? No, I don't think ZT's the only one to blame, I think the adepts had their own selfish reasons, but I'm interested in her influence. It would also be an interesting parallel. If Cassandra had been influenced by ZT much, would she have become like her mother and the other adepts in time?
I agree there is definitely somebody that knows about Casandra and changes her thoughts and turns her evil. And when repunzal did touch the blue stone her hair did come back there is something that you found.

Since this is part of the tangled series I can’t disagree. I read a Disney book (made by Disney) and they explain when we got those entire backstory including her childhood. I very much recommend anyone to read it and it will make Rapunzel and Flynn Rider seem very insignificant to the whole story.
I think the reason as to how she got pregnant is probably because she tried to find more answers about the sundrop and the moonstone in the hopes of finding a way to stop using the sundrop flower so much but still maintain her youth, so at one point she went to the dark kingdom and tried to seduce King Edmund into giving her more answers, or maybe the moonstone itself, then the two could've had a relationship, until Edmund discovered who Gothel really was, he threw her out, but not before getting Gothel pregnant his second child, so that means Eugene and Cassandra are half-siblings P.S Wotso I know u made a video about who Cassandra's father is, but still
There’s a book I believe that tells her whole backstory. I read it and it’s pretty interesting to learn about her heritage and family relations! Like her sisters and her mother! And how they lived away from all the others and etc. I really recommend it! I read it in German tho so I only know the title of the book in German. „ Das verzauberte Haar“ Or in english „The magical hair“
I've just had a thought, is it possible that Gothel had other children over her long lifetime like i simply can't picture her lifting a finger to clean her own cottage, how may more Cassandra's and Rapunzel's had passed through her cottage over the years. I have no evidence to support this theory other than you never see her lift a finger to clean the tower or the cottage but it leaves me to wonder how many Cassandra's she's had.
Isac, can you do a video about Cassandra and did Sundrop magic incantantion affected her in any way. Since she is biological daughter of Mother Gothel. She carried Cassandra in her womb and frenquently used the magic/icantation to stay young, so...there should be some effects on Cassandra.🤔
I personally think that if Cass stayed quiet Gothel would have went back for her so Rapunzel would have someone to spend time with and stay with as she grew up but since Cass exposed that she was there she couldn’t go back for her and even if she did there would be danger in bringing Cass with her because as Cass grew she might have exposed her to the kingdom
Something to consider is that if Mother Gothel hadn’t gone to steal Rapunzel, she probably would have died within the next few days or even the next morning, considering how fast she was aging, and left Cassandra motherless that way. When she left to go get Rapunzel, she looked just generally old. But when she was rushing back that night, she looked absolutely ancient and haggard. I do think she planned on getting Cassandra after, but maybe not out of proper parental love and more or “helpful servant to help with baby”. She did show a hint of hesitation on what to do before Cass unintentionally alerting the guards to her presence. I don’t believe she would have given up Rapunzel, she’d die if she did. But she might have been trying to figure out how to get Cass (as evidenced by her hesitant demeanor before cutting the bridge, but maybe it was just maternal instinct then. She was a mother (although a terrible one) and seeing your own kid in danger can sway emotions even if they never really loved them before.) before she was just “Eh f*** it.”
If you look closer at Mother Gothels face when she was about to cut the rope, Gothel looked worried about Cass. She had to chose, she might not wanted Cass to be put in an orphanage because she got put into the castle jail. Plus, Zoin Teri may have put that stuff there to make Rapunzel and Cass to believe Gothle had a secret room. Remember, Zion teri took a piece of the mirror and put the mirror in Rapunzel's bag to make Cass think Rapunzel took the mirror because it showed prof that Gothel Loved Cass. So, Zion Teri may have planted the stuff there as part of her plan to make Cass and Rapunzel think they were mending a broken friendship between them-selfs. Mother Gothels dress was based on the Renaissance.
Hey, Isaac, I was watching ” The Black Cauldron” yesterday. I always wondered the magical sword that Taran found on top of the “ great king” tomb; who do you think the “ great king” was? And what’s the name of the sword?
According to the book the book of three .which is the first book in the prydain series. Which is what the Disney movie is based on. The sword is named "dyrnwyn the black sword " . no connection to Disney. The author said he based alot of the series on Welsh and Celtic mythology. The author is named Lloyd Alexander Again. No Disney connection.
Side note, Eden Riegle is the voice of Kiara in the Lion Guard, Yuna in the English dub of The Anime "Stitch!", and A young Miriam from the Prince of Egypt.

Could be a theory, i think that Gothel is a witch which seek for a way to stay young. Judging by how she ended in ashes in the movie Rapunzel, she may be older than the timeline where the movie took place in. She may have heard of the flower in a grimoire book, its powers, especially healing and keeping the host healthy. If it could help a birth, it could help with the ability of defying death. Thought for a witch, she doesn't have any familiars, nor can use much magic, outside of knowledge about it.

Well actually, if you read the books that Disney has confirmed that Mother Gothel is actually a witch and she takes place after her mother and actually keeps Rapunzel cause Gothel had dozen's of flower's that came from the sun. She hated the kingdom and decided to get revenge, she was already heartbroken after being tricked by 3 evil witches and her sisters died. She already new the power from the flower's cause she learned from her mother and THAT'S how she know's the words to activate the power. She actually believe's what she was doing to Rapunzel was right cause she actually feared the world after what happened to her sister and her home (read the book). She thought she was protecting Rapunzel as she to was raised only in a home was not able to go outside cause her mother didn't let her. That's why when she sing's Mother Know's Best she really is talking about Mother as her mother told her about the danger's of the outside world and after the witches betrayed her and the human's raided her home, Gothel was convinced that the whole world was evil. She took Rapunzel to get back at the kingdom and show them what it's like to get something taken away from them cause they took her flower's. Gothel is just a grief strucken lady, who wanted to get revenge.
My theory about the opening of tangled is that Goethal found the flower much later than it seems in the movie all we know Is that Goffle found the flower and start using the healing spell that does not mean she found it when I first landed

Here’s an idea for a video did zhan tiri whisper in Cassandra’s ear when she interact with others between Rapunzel Topia and the season two finale and when she confronted her dad
With how much knowledge Gothel had about the Sundrop flower, she HAS to be connected to Zhan Tiri! And I agree with you about how she felt towards her daughter, Cassandra. Interestingly, Gothel also left Rapunzel on her own a lot, too (not much different to how she raised Cassandra, including making them do the household chores while she leaves them unattended for long periods of time 😔); because Rapunzel had the Sundrop's powers, though... Gothel put up with raising Rapunzel and acted "motherly" to keep her in the tower for 18 years. Constantly telling the lost princess that the world was cruel and would abuse her healing powers, keeping her occupied with her art and making Rapunzel her favorite food, and always breaking Rapunzel's self-esteem through cruel "jokes".
Mother Gothel seemed to respect the flower and keep it in its natural state, rather than pluck it out of the ground. She must have known that by uprooting it, it would destabilize the world and cause harm to the world. She would have taken it centuries ago. Perhaps she is not as bad as all that. And not greedy. With all of her powers, she could have been wealthy and even had her own Queendom. And she knew who to talk to the men in the Snuggly Duckling. She was street smart, cunning and shrewd. Not to make this about race, but.... Notice her black curly luscious locks, curves, and dark olive toned skin. Like Zan Tiri, they were woman of color. That's probably why they were hated by the Coronins. Perhaps Cassandra's dad was Coronin and made Cass a biracial child which was illegal. Maybe that's why she kept her in a cottage alone. And when Cass was adopted by the Captain she and integrated into Corona they made her a servant instead of a noble court member. Even the Saporians didn't like Corona. They waged war in the past. A descendent, Andrew, was olive colored as well and one of his followers was a brown wooly haired lady. Cassandra had a fling with him, perhaps because he was of the same kind. seems to be a Demanitis pupil with a hidden agenda and she didn't want to kidnap Rapunzel until she found out that she couldn't possess a magical lock of hair. Her quick wits and agility at such a feeble age is impressive. Kidnapping the girl and keeping her in isolation for 18 years even though she was a part time mom makes you wonder what she was doing on her off days. It seems that 22 years ago, she was in love with a good man and bore his child, Cassandra. Demanitis was a scientist/engineer and magician/alchemist himself. He controlled the weather, shape shifting, putting his soul into a monkey, made machines

Yes, it was a disciple members took for but it failed because of ego.
I think gothel was a follower of zhan tiri but she only followed her to learn I think gothel only followed zhan tiri to learn about the sun drop probably when gothel found out that the sun drop could restore youth she used the it. i feel like gothel only followed zhan tiri for information and we never see gothel attempt to bring back zhan tiri like the other disciples
Seems to be the case her silhouette was shown and Zhan Tiri indirectly mentioned Gothel to Cassandra.
When comes to her hatred of Cassandra, I think Gothel may have actually fallen in love with a man who only cared about her looks or just wanted one thing from her. (We know what it is. I'm not gonna say it) Then at one point, the man found out that either she was pregnant or her real age and left her. I say that because in the reprise of Mother Knows Best, she sings,
"This is why he's here, don't let him deceive you.
Give it to him, watch you'll see"
"Trust me, my dear. That's how fast he'll leave you."
I know she was using that to try and convince Rapunzel to return to the tower, while giving her a warning that Eugene will betray her once he has the crown. But she may have also been subtly hinting she had gone through such a betrayal.
She opened her heart for the 1st time in centuries and paid the price. Cassandra is nothing but a reminder of what happened when she let herself feel love for anyone but herself.
But why would she head back to her cabin after grabbing Rapunzel other than to lead the guards to where she maybe able to cut them off and buy more time?
I believe, she may have gone back to grab her daughter so Cassandra would care for Rapunzel while she went out to do....whatever she did when she wasn't in the tower. Maybe with a "sister", Rapunzel wouldn't want to leave the tower as she would have someone to play with, while simultaneously having someone she could talk to who, for the love of her mother, convince Rapunzel that it is too dangerous for them to go out.
If that was the case, then when Rapunzel and Cassandra may have locked Eugene up until Gothel arrived and she may have even killed Eugene or maybe turned him in for reward money that she could spend on herself.
But because the guards were too close, she wouldn't have time to grab Cassandra and just abandoned her, probably not even caring if the guards would take her away and raise her. As a bonus, she was free to manipulate Rapunzel as she pleased without the risk that her "lousy little pest" of a daughter would spill the beans and reveal who Rapunzel really was.
That's my theory. It may not be great, but here it is. Hope you liked it.

Plus she has such a hunger for power, which all the other wicked stepmother do as well, but what she does to get it is truly diabolical...
Maybe she's also a godmother , because that's what her original name, DAME Gothel meant. In fact, she could also be Rapunzel's fairy (or hairy) godmother. What do you think?

What if the only reason Gothel had Cass was to be a vessel of sorts? Gothel could have been looking for a way to transfer her spirit to Cass' body and start over, the Sundrop only being a method to keep herself young enough until she found a way. When the flower was stolen, Gothel had to give up on that plan as she had no way to do it.
Creepy, dark and... utterly believeable! For some reason, I had a nasty feeling why Gothel kept Cass around despite the fact she hated her so much. Then, you brought it up and it just made sense! That Wither and Decay spell could've been altered to rip Cass's soul from her body to allow Gothel to posses it; the Sundrop, as powerful as it is, only prolonged the inevitable with Gothel's body, and we saw the result when she touched Rap's hair after Eugene cut it! 0.0

@@kaytlinjustis5643 I don't think the Hurt Incantation is capable of doing that, it can harm a living being to the point of death. Which means trying to transfer her soul into a dead body won't re-animate it.
But in the movie it s clear that Gothel found the flower before the founding of Corona while in the flashbacks it is shown that Corona already exists the timeline doesn't really add up, my theory is that she found the flower and knew of the healing incantation by herself but soon found Lord Demenitus and Zhan Tiri looking for it so she decided to join them as their pupil as a way to protect her flower and stealing their research for herself. After Zhan Tiri got vanished Gothel went into hiding and had Cassandra, going out often to search for the moonstone herself.

i think during that time when mother gothel have found the flower, Corona was still small, not a huge building of a kingdom, this is why we have the part that is Old Corona where Varian lives. It could be the hometown of Lord Demenitus and was starting to become a kingdom.. But i guess this Theory is possible too...

How could she know about the healing incantation all by herself, she’s not a witch, or at least not a great one, like Zhan Tiri, nor a scientist, like Demanitus. She’s more like a normal woman who does whatever she can to get some benefits for her own beauty.
Her actual backstory is written in a book called “mother knows best” in the villains series but who knows im not sure if it’s canon but it’s a real book approved by disney

For someone that supposedly truly hated her daughter for a moment Mother Gothel did appear to struggle making the decision to leave Cassandra, but of course she did ultimately revert to her true selfish persona and did such a thing.
Of course one would have to wonder the thoughts going through Gothel's head during that moment of struggle, was it actually a love moment towards Cassandra or was it a damn! I had a good slave for a time, but now until this little brat that I'm holding grows up a little I have to do all of the chores that I had that lousy, little, pest do for me.
Idk I think her natural mother instincts kicked in just for that single second. She didn't look annoyed, she looked slightly worried. But ofc she's an evil witch at heart so she had to turn those feelings off and get the heck out of there

The idea of Mother Gothel being a former disciple of Zhan Tiri certainly explains how Tiri would have such an extensive knowledge of that old witch.

Surprise mother Gothel never tried to move the flower to a new location. I guess it risky because u don’t want to kill the flower. But if she had taken and dug a lot of the dirt around it and was careful not to destroy the root she might of been able to transplant the flower behind her cottage or in a pot and it probably would of never been discovered xD
You gotta realize that even back then? People had no way of moving a plant (let alone a flower.) from one place to another. I mean look at the romans and how they treat now extinct flowers from the past. Also, even if there were some people who know how to remove a flower from the ground without ruining the roots. It was better at the time to not touch plants. I mean they live in a time where they though the earth was flat and believed the Earth was the center of the universe and the sun revolve around our planet and not the other way around. It’s complicated.

Alena Conrad I know. XD Also, funny enough Mother Gothel may have a form of Lima Syndrome the minute she started kidnapping her as a baby and rising her better than her own biological daughter. I mean outside of the animated series revealing more backstory about her personality and life before Rapunzel. I think her rising Rapunzel could have mentally changed her into a Pseudo motherly refigure right down to almost killing Rapunzel‘s boyfriend just to tell her to get back to the tower. Excusing the eternal youth hair here. She kinda became one of those crazy insane over protective moms that cared so much for a daughter that doesn’t belong to them that even murdering another human to basically break Rapunzel’s spirit just so she can finally get Rapunzel to *wake up* to the real world. Just hurts a bit for both of them at least. Rapunzel knew Mother Gothel all her life growing up it’s like an anime betrayal once she found out the real truth about her origins and to me. That is how you write a villain that you hate and feel sorry for when she finally kicked the bucket after Rapunzel’s long hair got cut off. Basically Mother Gothel cares for her captive a little too much. 😞

@@jor_ixsintaxx1238 No, it didn't. Them turning the flower into a powder for the mother to drink is what killed it. After that the remainder of the flower dried up since it no longer held magic. Transplanting it isn't what killed it, removing its magic killed it.
I agree that she was a disciple but I just feel that Cassandra was born for a reason. That the notes weren't just left preserved for nothing more than Gothel's ego. But that's my little theory. Anyway, love watching your theories, Issac.

there’s actually a book called mother knows best. i’ve just started watching the video so i don’f know you if you mention it or not. but it was written by an author who was asked by disney to write a series and the book is considered canon. it has a lot about mother gothel’s childhood
As I had said in a previous video I think that, not only did she resent Cass for being a "drawback", I think that as Cass grew up she would see her as a competitor for admiration.
While Gothel did have some attractive physical attributes it's pretty clear in the show that Cass was far more beautiful as her attributes came from within, ie bravery, loyalty, intelligence and humor.
I think that, if Gothel saw and heard how lovely Cass grew up to be, she wouldn't bat an eyelash in finding a way to destroy/possibly kill her.
Looks like the Sundrop/Flower/Hair's youth restoring powers are temporary and she aged at an accelerated rate after each restoration. It would probably just stop working for her at some point.
Nothing is meant to last forever. The Sundrop may have rejuvenated her body, but it didn't turn back time for it. Whatever age she was in total each time she used it, it was still the true age of her body and so it was still going to break down degrade the way it was meant to. Literally, the only thing that kept that from happening from the magic of the Sundrop. Chances are it had gotten to the point where she had to use the incantation almost daily, (if not twice a week at least going from the movie), when Rapunzel eventually left the tower.
I have been wondering this myself. I would have thought that she would age naturally after the incantation was said and only have to repeat the incantation when she started to age again over the years.
I started getting the theory that Gothel periodically has a child over the centuries for the exact reason she had Cass doing chores that were too big for her, and Raps pretty much did everything around the tower that Gothel didn't feel like doing herself. Housework takes time, and she wants to live like a college student. When the kid gets big enough, they either run away to have a life of their own or she kicks them out for getting their own mind and to keep up her own charade of 'oh, I couldn't be that person's mother, I'm too young!', which is how she was so practiced at resisting itty bitty Cass's charm. My biggest reason for thinking this is Varian. Streaks in the hair aren't a very wide trait in the show, and even the colors are similar. I used to think that Varian and Cass were both her children, but when it hit that Gothel wouldn't bother with a boy when she had Raps to worry about, so I think it'd be very possible that he's a descendant of another kid she had, which is why he doesn't have as many streaks as Cassandra. And there have been recorded cases of family members falling in love with each other before they find out they're related because they can sense a connection.
Or she did go ahead and have Varian, hence the missing mom, but dumped him with a note on his dad's doorstep since she can't be bothered to raise a boy when she has a flower to manipulate.

When I watched the episode "Lost and Found", I heard the voices of the three followers summoning Zhan Tiri, and one of the voices definitely sounded like Gothel. But now that I know it was her voice actor who voiced the third follower in this episode, I'm fully convinced that Gothel is the third follower. And thanks for providing an idea as to why she never became a spirit like the other two. Since it could be that Gothel betrayed both Demanitus and Zhan Tiri, what if she was playing both sides the entire time, and was only out to gain power for herself to preserve her youthful beauty. This is just what I think.

When Mother Gothel was a student of 2 masters, when she betrayed them, she went through all that trouble within her perspective to stay alive, young and beautiful. Even as she despised Cassandra which I still find hurtful for poor Cass, we still don’t know who her biological father is!

What would have been really interesting, is if the solar eclipse over corona was a once in decade kind of thing and that Gothel returned at one point to research a way to extract the sun drop so that she could eventually discard Rapunzel. It would have tied in with the final episode of Zhan Tiri being inspired to use the same method, and would have shown how much more of a calculating heartless person Gothel was. I feel like the eclipse was just landed on us out of convenience, there really should have been more foreshadowing.

I believe that after Zhan Tiri was imprisoned, Gothel became the Evil Queen from Snow White in order to use the power and prestige as a way to have protection from Lord Demanitus and a way to get attention for her beauty. When things went south for her at the end of Snow White, she was stuck as an old woman and was unable to reach her potions at the castle. So she had to search for the sundrop in the nearby kingdom of Corona in order to regain her youth and beauty. After centuries, she eventually had Cass, kidnapped Rapunzel, and years later, finally had her karmic ending...

If *everyone* said Repunzel was better than her to the point where her own Mother would leave her for Repunzel , than don’t you think maybe she’d think it’s because she’s being second bested again??

I absolutely agree that Gothel was a disciple if Zhan Tiri, nothing else makes sense otherwise (how would she have the knowledge that she does?); but I always wondered if Cassandra wasn't a product to try and harvest the moonstone as well? She had been handling the sundrop safely just fine, but she MUST have known that the moonstone would be dangerous, so it wasn't a priority compared to finding the sundrop. But once she finally had it, maybe she gave birth to Cassandra as a vessel to handle the moonstone? She wouldn't risk being destroyed, so why not use someone who would be devoted to her instead?
But then Rapunzel happened and, well, she already has the sundrop, so maybe she can harness the moonstone too, when she finds it? (I believe that that's what she did whenever she left the tower) So yeah, no need for Cassandra anymore.

Tangled series is the most wild disney princess story, that i didnt know existed
I read her about in a disney book, where disney wrote the biologies of the disney villains, so far, it is said, it is all because of her, her life is connected to all the disney villains. she has three sisters as witches, Gothel is also a witch the tower where she kept rapunzle wasnt her real home, the reason why she left the tower is to visit her forever asleep sisters. which they were hospitalized in a different house.
It is also said that Rapunzle was sometimes dragged to the house were she hospitalized her sisters. The sun flower that was given to rapunzle was the last of her family heirloom. The flower was owned by her late mother who is a witch. The rest of the flowers were burned by the guards (or so what I remember). The reason why she kidnapped Rapunzle was because the sun flower. It is said by her mother to her that the flower can heal, thats why she kidnapped rapunzle... I only remember a little because it was 2019 when I borrowed the book from my school library.
The book title was "Mother know's Best" By Serena Valentino...

Good video. I was blown away by Tangled the series. It's the only Disney series 'sequel' that actually explores and expands the mythology in a meaningful way. Not to mention the character development and music is top notch.
One thing that's missing is Mother Gothel's motivation. She hoarded the sunflower for who knows how long, and what did she do with it? Make a room of magic mirrors and get off on compliments from the fishmonger? What was she really after? She had all the power and did nothing with it. She didn't really become an impressive sorceress. I wish they had expanded more on her history and given her an agenda bigger than magical plastic surgery.
The series is really Cassandra's journey. Anyone notice how Rapunzel doesn't really develop as a character? The most compelling character arc is Cassandra.

No, I don't think ZT's the only one to blame, I think the adepts had their own selfish reasons, but I'm interested in her influence. It would also be an interesting parallel. If Cassandra had been influenced by ZT much, would she have become like her mother and the other adepts in time?

I miss tangled the series
Since this is part of the tangled series I can’t disagree. I read a Disney book (made by Disney) and they explain when we got those entire backstory including her childhood. I very much recommend anyone to read it and it will make Rapunzel and Flynn Rider seem very insignificant to the whole story.

I think the reason as to how she got pregnant is probably because she tried to find more answers about the sundrop and the moonstone in the hopes of finding a way to stop using the sundrop flower so much but still maintain her youth, so at one point she went to the dark kingdom and tried to seduce King Edmund into giving her more answers, or maybe the moonstone itself, then the two could've had a relationship, until Edmund discovered who Gothel really was, he threw her out, but not before getting Gothel pregnant his second child, so that means Eugene and Cassandra are half-siblings

I've just had a thought, is it possible that Gothel had other children over her long lifetime like i simply can't picture her lifting a finger to clean her own cottage, how may more Cassandra's and Rapunzel's had passed through her cottage over the years. I have no evidence to support this theory other than you never see her lift a finger to clean the tower or the cottage but it leaves me to wonder how many Cassandra's she's had.
Isac, can you do a video about Cassandra and did Sundrop magic incantantion affected her in any way. Since she is biological daughter of Mother Gothel. She carried Cassandra in her womb and frenquently used the magic/icantation to stay young, so...there should be some effects on Cassandra.🤔
I personally think that if Cass stayed quiet Gothel would have went back for her so Rapunzel would have someone to spend time with and stay with as she grew up but since Cass exposed that she was there she couldn’t go back for her and even if she did there would be danger in bringing Cass with her because as Cass grew she might have exposed her to the kingdom

Could be that on a night that she had many compliments, she probably had Cassandra conceived that night. And years later popped cass.
Something to consider is that if Mother Gothel hadn’t gone to steal Rapunzel, she probably would have died within the next few days or even the next morning, considering how fast she was aging, and left Cassandra motherless that way. When she left to go get Rapunzel, she looked just generally old. But when she was rushing back that night, she looked absolutely ancient and haggard. I do think she planned on getting Cassandra after, but maybe not out of proper parental love and more or “helpful servant to help with baby”. She did show a hint of hesitation on what to do before Cass unintentionally alerting the guards to her presence. I don’t believe she would have given up Rapunzel, she’d die if she did. But she might have been trying to figure out how to get Cass (as evidenced by her hesitant demeanor before cutting the bridge, but maybe it was just maternal instinct then. She was a mother (although a terrible one) and seeing your own kid in danger can sway emotions even if they never really loved them before.) before she was just “Eh f*** it.”
If you look closer at Mother Gothels face when she was about to cut the rope, Gothel looked worried about Cass. She had to chose, she might not wanted Cass to be put in an orphanage because she got put into the castle jail. Plus, Zoin Teri may have put that stuff there to make Rapunzel and Cass to believe Gothle had a secret room. Remember, Zion teri took a piece of the mirror and put the mirror in Rapunzel's bag to make Cass think Rapunzel took the mirror because it showed prof that Gothel Loved Cass. So, Zion Teri may have planted the stuff there as part of her plan to make Cass and Rapunzel think they were mending a broken friendship between them-selfs. Mother Gothels dress was based on the Renaissance.

Hey, Isaac, I was watching ” The Black Cauldron” yesterday. I always wondered the magical sword that Taran found on top of the “ great king” tomb; who do you think the “ great king” was? And what’s the name of the sword?
According to the book the book of three .which is the first book in the prydain series. Which is what the Disney movie is based on. The sword is named "dyrnwyn the black sword " . no connection to Disney. The author said he based alot of the series on Welsh and Celtic mythology. The author is named Lloyd Alexander

Judging by how she ended in ashes in the movie Rapunzel, she may be older than the timeline where the movie took place in.
She may have heard of the flower in a grimoire book, its powers, especially healing and keeping the host healthy.
If it could help a birth, it could help with the ability of defying death.
Thought for a witch, she doesn't have any familiars, nor can use much magic, outside of knowledge about it.
I thought her back story would be like the book "mother knows best" the book made way more sense then the series but I guess it would make sense that they would change her back story cause the book was pretty dark but again made a lot more sense on how she found the flower and why she used it

Well actually, if you read the books that Disney has confirmed that Mother Gothel is actually a witch and she takes place after her mother and actually keeps Rapunzel cause Gothel had dozen's of flower's that came from the sun. She hated the kingdom and decided to get revenge, she was already heartbroken after being tricked by 3 evil witches and her sisters died. She already new the power from the flower's cause she learned from her mother and THAT'S how she know's the words to activate the power. She actually believe's what she was doing to Rapunzel was right cause she actually feared the world after what happened to her sister and her home (read the book). She thought she was protecting Rapunzel as she to was raised only in a home was not able to go outside cause her mother didn't let her. That's why when she sing's Mother Know's Best she really is talking about Mother as her mother told her about the danger's of the outside world and after the witches betrayed her and the human's raided her home, Gothel was convinced that the whole world was evil. She took Rapunzel to get back at the kingdom and show them what it's like to get something taken away from them cause they took her flower's. Gothel is just a grief strucken lady, who wanted to get revenge.

Actually their is a real Disney book that describes Gothels whole life. It makes me look at the whole story of rapunzel differently. I recommend it :)

With how much knowledge Gothel had about the Sundrop flower, she HAS to be connected to Zhan Tiri!
And I agree with you about how she felt towards her daughter, Cassandra.
Interestingly, Gothel also left Rapunzel on her own a lot, too (not much different to how she raised Cassandra, including making them do the household chores while she leaves them unattended for long periods of time 😔); because Rapunzel had the Sundrop's powers, though... Gothel put up with raising Rapunzel and acted "motherly" to keep her in the tower for 18 years. Constantly telling the lost princess that the world was cruel and would abuse her healing powers, keeping her occupied with her art and making Rapunzel her favorite food, and always breaking Rapunzel's self-esteem through cruel "jokes".

Mother Gothel seemed to respect the flower and keep it in its natural state, rather than pluck it out of the ground. She must have known that by uprooting it, it would destabilize the world and cause harm to the world. She would have taken it centuries ago. Perhaps she is not as bad as all that. And not greedy. With all of her powers, she could have been wealthy and even had her own Queendom. And she knew who to talk to the men in the Snuggly Duckling. She was street smart, cunning and shrewd.
Not to make this about race, but....
Notice her black curly luscious locks, curves, and dark olive toned skin. Like Zan Tiri, they were woman of color. That's probably why they were hated by the Coronins. Perhaps Cassandra's dad was Coronin and made Cass a biracial child which was illegal. Maybe that's why she kept her in a cottage alone. And when Cass was adopted by the Captain she and integrated into Corona they made her a servant instead of a noble court member.
Even the Saporians didn't like Corona. They waged war in the past. A descendent, Andrew, was olive colored as well and one of his followers was a brown wooly haired lady. Cassandra had a fling with him, perhaps because he was of the same kind.
seems to be a Demanitis pupil with a hidden agenda and she didn't want to kidnap Rapunzel until she found out that she couldn't possess a magical lock of hair. Her quick wits and agility at such a feeble age is impressive. Kidnapping the girl and keeping her in isolation for 18 years even though she was a part time mom makes you wonder what she was doing on her off days. It seems that 22 years ago, she was in love with a good man and bore his child, Cassandra.
