I love the idea of not literally being speechless. I mean, she is for a majority of the film, but actions often speak louder than words, so in that way she isn't speechless.
This hits hard since a major point in the original tale is when the Little Mermaid is at the wedding of her prince, spending it in painful sorrow, knowing that she is destined to turn into sea foam and cease to exist by sunrise.

This should have been in the movie! Why does a live action remake exists but they didn't come up with such an idea for Ariel ?? The additional reprise in the movie is not strong enough...
