Its amazing how these songs and this band seem to have been forgotten in the mainstream, so much so that Stormzy declared himself the first black person to headline Glastonbury, not realising that Skunk Anansie with Skin did that back in 99.
Stormzy is a wanker.
Can't forget Beyoncé's claim in 2011 that she was the first black _woman_ to headline. At least Stormzy exhibited class by admitting to his error. I don't know if Beyoncé ever acknowledged the truth.
Never I always play it
Pretty sure jay z did too? Before stormzy
Stormzy is crap.
2022, and I came back to listen to this masterpiece.
Still pisses on anything in the charts right now 👍🏻
Still a banger ! Skins voice is understated
yep same, oh, only 27 years... same... still goes off, yep, a timeless banger... classic
🙌🙌🙌
2023 and its still banging👍🤘
One of the most underrated bands of all time
Great rock music
Started all my mixtapes with this banger
I could never understand the lack of exposure in the U.S. I feel fortunate to have been turned on to Skunk Anansie in '95, and my love for Skin and band has only grown since then.
What are you talking about? Not even Oasis was big in the U.S., you people ignored Britpop as long as you could. Blur became big because they started to sound like American Alt. Rock.
Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Pulp... you Americans are stupid, you couldn't get fuoking Jarvis Cocker's brilliance.
Case in point: you don't like the band, you have some fetish with Skin and that's despicable... so cynical with your "I could never understand" wanting to imply "it's racism"... it's not fuoking racism, Americans kept ignoring the UK in the 90s so don't flatter yourself: it's stupidity. In Japan all of these bands are huge, same in Europe and even South America.

Assume much? Your reply reads like one of those crazy comments to a The Needle Drop review.
She was a black and bi two things Americans hate with passion
I’m an Aussie and loved them since my teen yrs too! 44yrs old and still listen.
I worked on this video. I worked on the post production involving matte runs, rotoscoping and retouching.
cool story
+gaslett Me too ... obviously we met.
not necessarily - as i was stuck in the Quantel Harriet suite at VTR rotoscoping (copy brushing) removing the central mirror line.
So what. More Infos and it might actually gets interesting
Enough about that ..... great song . Powerful stuff
Damn, she's so beautiful. And she's not aging since the mid 90's.
Skin is such a fantastic performer with such a wild attitude. What a guitar feedback at the beginning and the riff comes in, bursting averything. I was 17 in 1995 when that song and I still jump on it !!!
This artist is seriously under rated and not nearly as well known as it deserves to be. Can't believe if never even heard the name before. Had to figure out how it was properly pronounced.
Well, you know of them now, and this is all that matters.
@@davidadams2395 and spread the word :D
Skin rocks, her vocals are immense and she is badass!!! 👍👍👍
Best live band I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of bands. They should have been much bigger than they were, even now in 2022, they still kick everyone's ass. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
The Naomi Campbell of bands. Oh and that VOICE!! That BASS THOSE DRUMS!!!! SHEESH. Helping me through my break up.
Unreal band! Absolutely get your rage, love, anger, pain and happiness out all in one!
Thats what i like about them, sound angry but with a broken soul 👍
True old and good rock.
Thanks for getting me through my shitty high school times Skin
same
7 years later, still here listening to T-Bug, I mean Skin, and loving it.
love this song. great band
I think I read somewhere that she did some modeling once. If so, I can see why. She's gorgeous.
Also, awesome song. :-)
❤What a voice, what a clip .. masterpiece ❤❤
love how raw this band is.
Not fair that I can't add multiple "likes". Ever since I heard this song - I believe on a Kerrang compilation in the mid-90s - I've loved Skin and Skunk Anansie
Charges me up - I was probably in my twenties when I heard and enjoyed this . Now I'm about 40 but I still feel like in my twenties and that's the charm and glory of it isn't it ? :)
I'd forgotten how good this band are.
Love it!!!! U are amazing Skin!! Ur #1 Jamaican fan!!!
SKUNK ANANSIE - PARANOID & SUNBURNT
Skunk Anansie are a British rock band whose members include Skin (lead vocals, guitar), Cass (bass, guitar, backing vocals), Ace (guitar, backing vocals) and Mark Richardson (drums and percussion). Skunk Anansie formed in 1994, disbanded in 2001 and reformed in 2009. The name "Skunk Anansie" is taken from Akan folk tales of Anansi the spider-man of Ghana, with "Skunk" added to "make the name nastier". They have released six studio albums: Paranoid & Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996), Post Orgasmic Chill (1999), Wonderlustre (2010), Black Traffic (2012) and Anarchytecture (2016); one compilation album, Smashes and Trashes (2009); and several hit singles, including "Charity", "Hedonism", "Selling Jesus" and "Weak". They are often grouped as part of the Britrock movement, as opposed to the contemporary Britpop of their early years due to their overall harder sound. The band, in 2004, was named as one of the most successful UK chart acts between 1952 and 2003 by the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles & Albums, with a total of 142 weeks on both the singles and album charts ranking them at No. 491. Skunk Anansie have sold 5 million records. Influences: Skin has described Skunk Anansie as a "clit-rock" group, which Allmusic clarifies as "an amalgam of heavy metal and black feminist rage". Members Skin and Ace have mentioned the Sex Pistols, Blondie, dub, reggae, electronica, hip-hop and world music as significant influences. Other media: The band also covered The Stooges' song "Search and Destroy" specifically for the soundtrack of Zack Snyder's film Sucker Punch, released on 25 March 2011. The soundtrack also includes a Skunk Anansie remix of the song "Army of Me" by Björk. Band members: Deborah "Skin" Dyer - lead vocals, guitar, theremin, piano, keyboards (1994-2001; 2009-present), Martin "Ace" Kent - guitar, backing vocals (1994-2001; 2009-present), Richard "Cass" Lewis - bass, guitar, backing vocals (1994-2001; 2009-present), Mark Richardson - drums, percussion, backing vocals (1995-2001; 2009-present), Former members: Robbie France - drums, percussion (1994-1995; died 2012), Touring members: Erika Footman - keyboards, backing vocals.
And I have the great, great honor of having five Skunk Anansie CD-albums in my discography, led by the charismatic vocalist and songwriter, Skin. Therefore, I have a unit of the CD-Album PARANOID & SUNBURNT (1995), a unit of the second studio CD-Album, and perhaps, their greatest commercial success, STOOSH (1996), I also have the third studio CD-Album, my favourite, POST ORGASMIC CHILL (1999), two units. And finally, the CD-Album of the greatest hits collection, SMASHES AND TRASHES, released in 2009, which includes three new songs and two live acoustic songs. Altogether there are five CD-albums, including the second copy of the CD-Album POST ORGASMIC CHILL (1999).
Paranoid & Sunburnt is the debut studio album by British rock band Skunk Anansie, first released in 1995 via One Little Indian Records. It was re-released in 2005 with a DVD featuring the videos to the singles. This album was recorded with the band's original drummer, Robbie France, but he is not featured on the cover. The album, featuring a mix of controversial protest songs (mainly about politics and religion), peaked at number 8 in the UK Albums Chart. Singles: Five singles were taken from Paranoid & Sunburnt, four of which were commercially released. Single: "Little Baby Swastikkka" was the first release from the album. It was not a commercial release, however. It was a radio single and only 2,000 copies were pressed. "Selling Jesus" was the first commercial single release from the album. Released in March 1995, it peaked at No. 46 in the UK Singles Chart. It also appeared on the Strange Days soundtrack. "I Can Dream" was the follow-up single, released in June 1995, and charted at No. 41. "Charity" was the third single, released in August 1995, and charted at No. 40. It was re-released in 1996 (see below). "Weak" was the fourth single, released in January 1996, and charted at No. 20. "Charity" was re-released in April 1996 and its peak chart position was higher than the original release. It peaked at No. 20. "I Can Dream"
Released: 5 June 1995
I'll be your sailor girl
I'll tip my cap to your parade
Life won't be dreary no
I'll be the waves inside your bed
Pain is your beauty
It hurts the vision in our eyes
Your eyes are smiling now
They watch me cry, they watch me die, watch me die
I can dream, I can dream
I can dream that I'm someone else
I can love, I can love
I can love, oh love someone else
My saviour, my darling
Your eyes seep through me
You think you hate the way I mince
I'm screwing your dreams now
So cynical at your expense
Oh what a sacrifice
All of my dreams will melt away
Oh who's so special now
No one's more special, more than me, more than me
I can dream, I can dream
I can dream that I'm someone else
I can love, I can love
I can love, oh love someone else
I can dream, I can dream
I can dream that I'm someone else
I can love, I can love
I can love, oh love someone else
My saviour, my saviour, my darling, my darling
My saviour, my saviour, my darling, my darling
I can dream, I can dream, I can dream, I can dream
I can love, I can love, love love
I can dream, I can dream
I can dream that I'm someone else
I can love, I can love
I can love, oh love someone else
I can dream, I can dream
I can dream that I'm someone else
I can love love love, I can love love love
I can love, oh love someone else
I can dream, I can love (dream that i'm someone else)
I can dream, love (love, oh love someone else)
My darling, my saviour
My darling (I can dream)
Dream that I'm someone else
My saviour

Such an awesome almost pure beauty.
Thanks Skin
This was and is one of their best - It takes me on a ride every time I hear it and remains an absolute banger to crank out and scream along to. An amazing band that sounds every bit as fresh now as they ever did.
Great band.
So Floor Jansen of Nightwish is my symphonic metal Queen. And Floor was asked about who she viewed as a rock Goddess and she answered Skin. Such high praise.
High praise, indeed. I'm floored by her acknowledgement of Skin's influence in Rock history.
I went to watch a great band live in Walthamstow, and listening to them made me remember good ole Skunk! Her voice is amazing, but so is the voice od ESE - flipping fab 💯💯💯
I can dream, I can dream ...... that in '23, I (still) love this song.....
Great song and she’s stunning
Their best song IMO. Very powerful theme!
Best track on the album for me
This is a hefty God damn track. I hadn’t heard of Skunk Anansie when I heard this track and I was gobsmacked at how relentlessly in your face it sounded.
Love this tune ❤
Гениальная песня слушал ее еще в 1995 г. просто супер, через столько лет считаю Скин супер вокалисткой!!!
Skin my hero for 15 years :)
My 25 💕

😊
Gorgeous.
WOW What a tune.
Amazing voice 😊😊😊😊
I fell in love with Skin and Skunk Anansie when I first saw this on Cable TV in the UK. That weird channel where you used to call a number and request songs. I was 20, my memories of the time are always painted in summer, grunge was blowing over the Atlantic, Brit Pop was surging, and Skunk Anansie were spear-heading Brit Rock. One year later, I touched her arse and she kicked me in the head...Good times. (She stage-dived at a Rock City, Nottingham gig-Nothing sinister.)
I watched them at Rock City. Absolutely mind blowing live band.
Fantastic song
Geiler Scheiß!🤘🤘🤘

that riff omg
Muy bueno la primera vez que los escucho😮❤
My dad was the start of my music taste, and I'm glad he got me into these guys when they came out. Sure, at the time ai was finding Feare Feactory and Morbid Angel, but these tunes slams in an emotionally heavy way. Now that I've got heavily into fuzz (are you guys using something like a boss FZ-2 on this song?). I'm glad to be back, had no idea they reformed till recently (12 years late). 🤣
great band
Heard it on radio in Detroit in 1995
I love you Skin !!!!!!!!

I love skunk anansie😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁voice skin
i might be wrong, but it seems to me that Roland Barthes touched on the themes of this song in his essay about La Dame aux Camélias in the Mythologies. Being consumed by bourgeois love and dreaming of some acknowledgement. Ah. x
101ST COMMENT!
How to play the bass guitar as part of a band example #1

обожавам их!
