Great video Steve! It does take discipline to keep riding. Some days you really don’t feel like but I have found that those are the days that can be the best on the bike and then you’re so glad you did the ride! I’ll be 73 in January and I can thank my time on the bike for the good health I have. Keep spreading the word Steve!
Thanks for the thoughtful comments Steve. Just finished rereading Covey's "7 habits" book and mindfulness is mentioned in his habit 7 "sharpening the saw". This particular habit is overall about taking care of yourself. You model the way for all of us as concerns taking care of ourselves physically and mentally. As always, appreciate your videos.
I like your videos. I’ve ridden the “Trace” end to end. We lived very near the Trace in Tennessee for several years. Good ride. Very rural except Jackson and Tupelo. There’s good camping on the ride. I just turned 70 and ride every day.
Enjoy Florida Steve . I’m the same vintage age of 72 and heading south mid December for four months to ride and golf. Us old guys have discipline and get out there daily and feel guilty if we miss a day. Leaving beautiful but now cold Cape Cod to enjoy the winter although Florida riding is totally flat and really quite boring. Keep in shape for your big ride! If you get down to Boca or Delray Beach area this winter look me up. I will have several good bikes there. You’ll be comfortable.
Yours is a timely video for me, Steve - thanks. I retire in Aug. 2025, and in fall 2025 plan to fly to So. Korea with my new Brompton to ride their 633km "Four Rivers Ride" over a week's time. I just re-started my riding, after a fourth hand surgery and physical therapy to address some knee and hip pains, to get back into shape and start logging increasingly higher mileage rides so I can complete that long-distance ride in good form. The thought of experiencing this ride and So. Korea's backcountry is #1 on my bucket list and has me inspired! Thanks for the additional motivation, Steve!
Steve, you’re going to love the Natchez Trace. I rode it in April 2019 but had to cut it short in Jackson, MS because of severe weather. I live in the Northeast so it was difficult training in the winter and Tennessee was a challenge because it was hillier than I expected. Beautiful riding, though. I’m 68 and thinking about riding it again, hopefully making it all the way to Natchez next time!
Glad to see you back in Florida again. Great place to ride all winter long. I just finished a 35 mile ride this afternoon. As you said, I didn’t want to go but I am fairly disciplined and told myself that I’m not going to waste a nice day staying indoors! Thanks for great words of wisdom.
Sound and good advise. I'm in Australia where our average temp at the moment is 30C. What kind of temperatures where you are and how do you get around protecting your body in the event of a fall whilst not cooking yourself ?
Hi Phil and thanks for your comment! I was in Florida and the temp was about 27C. Aside from helmet, hat, arm protectors and Sunscreen, I was not wearing any other protective gear. Thanks, Steve
Steve, I am glad to see you riding a normal bike again. I would like to comment about e-bikes as they are useful for people who really need them. This video was really nice. I believe young teenagers who are riding e-bikes and other electric assisted vehicles should be riding normal bikes and not these electric ones. They really need the exercise but the parents normally just give in to them because they want to please them. Electric vehicles are great for people who really need them. I am your age and riding my bike everyday helps me to feel better. I have my health issues but the riding helps me to feel better. Please Steve, I would like to share some thoughts about the current situation in the USA in a private message. How can I connect you? Email, messenger, or Skype? Best regards, your follower. Maurice
What a great attitude you have! It’s contagious!
Thank you Berenice!
Thanks Steve. Motivational can ebb and flow and needs to be refreshed from time to time.
Thanks John
