  • I started cycling at the age of 50 , many warned me not to , it is risky, but I went ahead . I love the wind on my face and I believe one must not die with their song in their heart !

I started when I was 33, an year back. The best decision I've ever made. But as people say, cycling is not cheap... It's expensive if we want it to be 😉

Started back at 65 now 67 having not rode for 45 years what made it happen was being told I was type 2 diabetic! I bought a bike cut out carbs and just this weekend I did 45 miles of road .The diabetes only lasted 3months as I dealt with it and didn’t need to take tablets ,yes it’s great it’s great for the heart and it’s very addictive 🚴‍♂️👌🇬🇧

I'm 65 & I ride as much as I can, mostly off road trails. Yes, uphills are a bear but once you get to the downhill side & zoom down that hill that's as close to feeling 15 again as you can get!!!

I am happy to see someone who started as late as did. I used to ride bikes when I lived in the Caribbean. A few months ago I discovered my passion again. I am so glad I did.

You are a man after my own heart!
I rediscovered cycling a few years ago just before I turned 60, and these days you can't keep me off my bike.
The feeling of accomplishment is fantastic.
I've always told people interested in exercise and health to find something they like doing, and keep doing it.
That way it's fun, not an awful grind.
Cycling -- even on the smart trainer -- does that for me.
Plus, who doesn't like tinkering with their bike. Endless hours of joy!
    Cheers

If you're over 40 and not cycling regularly you're doing your self a big disservice. It can be fun, helps control blood pressure, blood sugar, tones your body, boosts your mood, not as stressful as running and you can make friends who share similar hobbies. Soon you will find yourself needing less medication. The cost of cycling equipment actually pays for itself in the long run. I lost 15 lbs through cycling.

The key word is passion, as you pointed out. It is the the nr.1 factor regardless of what it is you do. The enjoyment you get out of doing something inspires you to keep on doing it. Ride and enjoy.

Thanks for sharing, my experiences is very similar to yours (also down to the almost meditative experience), such a freedom. I started cycling again at age 53 after a pause of about 16 years. I could not be happier! Today I cycled to my work and back, almost 50km that keeps me going and it beats being stuck in traffic or being packed in a subway train!

Very cool I am 60 and have been on and off bikes since I learned to ride one at 7.Same story always thought to busy. Two years ago I finally bought a mid quality used trail/mountain bike and am looking to upgrade that one. Now semi retired I spend my days off exploring the vast trails in my home provinces of Alberta and British Columbia Canada and have an awesome partner who faithfully follows along 🐕wherever the trails take us. hope to spend more time in coming winters riding in warmer climates. I do plan to spend whatever years I have left riding repairing and trail building. Cheers if you see some old guy on a black and orange TREK with a tan and sometimes a 🐶spotty dog following along do say hello

If you have the opportunity, try mountain biking, but take it easy at first.
