1st contact (Roland S-1 + T-8)

- Finally the S-1 is here !
For a 1st jam i paired it with the T-8. As a non keyboard player i found that the "step by step" recording was the easiest way to enter the notes :
- hit the record button,
- switch between steps with the rotary knob,
- enter the notes (up to 4 per step)
caution : if you stay in record mode and press play the S-1 will record motion (filter knob action for instance, ...)
I have only scratched the surface of its capabilities by now but it is already impressive ! A welcome addition to the aira compact family !

Great synth, and I was already thinking of buying a Korg Volca Bass, it's good that I didn't have time to do it!
Having both, mho the S-1 packs more features than the V bass. But the former is digital whereas the later is analog...
@@bigkik I think with a blind test, no one can distinguish an analog modern sound from a digital one by sound)

Cool! Great rendition! Which of the two sequences does the S-1? Is the very first one at the beginning before the Drums enter?
Very first "acid" notes are the T-8. Basically 15xC2 and finally a C3 with slide. The somewhat arpeggio is the S-1.

Bonjour, on pourrait résumer comme ça mais c'est vraiment un mini SH-101 avec de nouvelles fonctionnalités. Si je devais résumer mon avis à ce stade :
J-6 : machine idées mélodiques grâce à son séquenceur
S-1 : véritable émulation de synthé (SH-101) avec des fonctionnalités supplémentaire (motion design)
Le T-8 et le S-1 vont très bien ensemble, mais à terme je veux inteégrer aussi le J-6 (c'était d'ailleurs initialement prévu mais il m'a fait le coup de la panne sèche ;-) )

Between S1 and J6 which one do you prefer?
It is difficult to answer... They offer different features. Personnaly I like them both and I will keep them, and i really want to include the 3 compacts at the same time. For me, J-6 is a wonderfull sequencer whereas S-1 is a true tiny synth with extra features. It depends on what you are looking for...

Thank you. They can send (and receive) midi notes and midi program changes. The S-1 can also receive midi CC.

Thank you. I follow my inspirations without pre-planned genres. As a kid of the 80s/90s I was strongly influenced by the electronic music of that era (detroit, Chicago and the euro scene).
I know the "EBM" as a musical genre and have to listen to it a little bit more to improve my electronic music culture. I might do some if it gives me inspiration.
