Continuing our exploration of Alaska, our next destination was Kenai Fjords National Park in Kenai Peninsula near Seward.
We travelled by road from Anchorage to Seward. For details of this journey, please see our previous video, First glimpse of Alaska -- Scenic Alaskan Drive.
From Seward, we took a boat. It was a six hour boat ride. There was ample seating space in the boat both, inside cabins with tables and chairs, and outside in the open too. In the open, freezing cold, strong breeze and choppy sea were more than compensated by some truly awesome views, from close quarters, of mountains (many snow capped), wildlife (sea lions, bears, humpback whales, etc), overcast sky, the mighty Pacific Ocean, and of course the majestic Holgate glacier at figuratively handshake distance.
The boat set off slowly, but picked up good speed (and high decibel engine noise too) before reaching the target area in the ocean. Then the boat was moving at a comfortable speed only, permitting us good time to savour some absolutely stunning views on display around us.
And when the boat reached Holgate glacier, it decided to stay afloat at one spot. The close quarters view of Holgate glacier, almost from hand shake distance so to say, was ethereal. We stayed there, our eyes transfixed on this divine beauty, the exceptionally freezing cold of the place notwithstanding. It is only after spending several minutes in this stunned admiration did we start actually feeling the extreme cold at that place, and rushed indoors.
