  • We spent the BEST three days at Kenai Fjords National Park near Seward and words do not do this place justice! This FREE national park is full of towering mountains, fjords, more glaciers than we could count, the largest ice field entirely in the United States, and endless wildlife. We couldn’t believe that the scenery we experienced here was real life…it was breathtaking!

      We super appreciate that! That means a lot to us! In reality we are nowhere near anything like this 😂 But, as the other commenters said we may lose out on the creative freedom and having a huge film crew follow us around wouldn't be nearly as fun. Although, having others do the filming and do the editing would be nice! haha We're thankful and grateful we get to do what we do and are so excited to continue!

    Hi! New to your channel and it looks great. I just wanted to add my two cents. I am actually in a car driving home from the airport after spending 3 weeks in Alaska. Here was our itinerary:
    1. 7 day cruise from Vancouver through the inside pass. Stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Whittier. Went to glacier bay national park and then to collage fjords. Then took a separate cruise up close to the glaciers - can not recommend enough!! Cruise was amazing!!!
    2. Stay in Anchorage for one night
    3. Head out to Denali for two nights
    4. Head up to Fairbanks for one night
    5. Take a bus up to the Arctic Circle
    6. Stayed in Coldfoot for a night
    7. Flew back down to Fairbanks
    8. Took 12 hour train ride to Anchorage
    9. Flew out to a remote lodge to go fishing for two days
    10. Head back to Boston - right now!
    Overall I agree totally with everything you talked about as it relates to southern Alaska and the fjords and glaciers. That’s where it ends. There is absolutely no reason to do any of the things we did after number 1. The entire state is run down and old. And not charming old. Denali? You can’t see the mountain other than 33% of the time because it is clouded in. The bus ride is long and you don’t see much. Look it up. Most people say to skip it. The bus ride to the Arctic? 9 hours of trees and maybe some mountains at the end. Awful. The train ride? Trees!!!!! A few mountains off in the distance. Flat and unbelievably boring. The fishing, not bad but would never do it again
    Again, stay in southern Alaska you will like it. Other than that, head out and go somewhere else

    Love your Alaska series!!! Having just returned from our own 2-week trip there, your videos are a nice way to look back at our own travels. What I especially love about your videos (and what i think makes them stand out) are all the little details you capture - waves crashing, a man cutting fish, seagulls flying, a cloud above a mountain, water dripping from tree leaves... Those are the kind of little details you capture (in between the main sights) that make your videos so special! Love it!
    P.s. And i also appreciate all the factual / historical information you add about the sights.

    Glad you were able to make it to Kenai Fjords NP. I think the day we went out on the boat into the fjords was one of the absolute most enjoyable days in my life. We had calm seas the day we went, so didn't have to worry about Dramamine. Exit Glacier looks like it has receded 75-100 yards since we were there about 8 years ago. Great video.

      @@tacrewgirl The series of signs that show the glacier leading edge at different points in time is a real eye opener. I don't remember specifics, but I think that there are markers from the early 1900's and that they are at least a half mile, if not closer to a mile, from the current leading edge of the glacier.

    • @tacrewgirl

      @@stevedietrich8936 Yes, I remember the signs. The ones at 2005 and 2010 are most telling. A friend who grew up in Alaska was shocked at how far it had receded from his childhood in 2005.

    Exit Glacier was a great trip from Seward in October 2022, after the season was over. When we were driving to Exit Glacier we saw our first moose as it crossed the road in front of us. We were able to see it as we passed it slowly.
    Since we only had our rental class C, we took it to the overlook. Since it was our fourth day we were so impressed with all of what we saw. Camping at Iditarod Park in Seward. It was incredible to camp right on the water and see the snow capped mountains, sipping on a cup of coffee, and watching a otter swim by us.

    Your video is so well done...did the Kenai Fjords trip 4 years ago and it was awesome...we were lucky to see one big chunk come down...you certainly had a stellar day! Our friend, who has lived there since he was a boy kept asking me do you think this boat trip is worth it? I looked at him like he was insane and said, uh yeah. You live here, you're used to this. I was in awe of the state's beauty.

      As someone who moved here a few years ago, I can attest that most locals do not do the "touristy" stuff. They stick to what they did growing up whether that was hiking, fishing, boating, hunting, ATVing, etc. To them, why pay money for a tour. But every time I've taken a local friend on a trip they are awed and want to return with their family.
      I tell them there's a reason people are spending $2-4k/person for a week up here.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK

    Yall have alot of great videos, but this was one of your best. I loved seeing the glaciers break off and the sound of them hitting the ocean was amazing. Alaska is so beautiful. If you want to get close to beauty, you really have to hike to see it, and it is really worth it. When I was younger, I wish I had hiked in the Great Smokies and in the Appalachians to really see the beauty of the mountains. I have followed you from the beginning in Texas to Alaska, what an amazing journey. Be safe, yall take care and thank you for sharing

    I first visited Exit Glacier in 1980, one year after moving to Alaska. I left Alaska in 2004 but return frequently to visit friends and family. Took a drive to Seward in 2019 and swung by Exit Glacier. Took the hike and was stunned by how far it had retreated in 39 years! In my short 25 years in Alaska, one didn’t need to consult climate data to know the Arctic and other Alaska climate zones were warming. It was noticeable almost year by year! As a pilot, I also watched with dismay the profound retreat of the glaciers.

    Now I am so happy that you finished the Harding Ice Field hike for me so I could see the very top. We made it over half way but were not prepared with food and water and had to turn around. You are absolutely right, you can't visit Alaska just once. We are going back next summer. Loved your boat tour and everything about your trip. I know Kona was happy to see you.

    • @tacrewgirl
      @tacrewgirl ปีที่แล้ว

      As someone who lives here and worked in tourism a few seasons, I would always tell guests that you need at least 4 trips all at least 10-14 days each to appreciate this state and even then that's just a small bit. We're 2.5x the size of TX and maybe only 15% is accessible by car. The rest requires plane and/or boat.
      An RV is the best way to see the road system. A cruise is the only way to see Southeast/Inside Passage. And money, time, patience, and local connections are the only way to see and experience the interior.
      Honestly, if you have the time, work seasonally or volunteer in exchange for room and board. You meet great peeps and have amazing memories over several months. Quite a few teachers do this in the summer. Get paid and get to adventure daily at work and on your off days.

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  ปีที่แล้ว

      That hike was a doozy! We were thankful we made it to the top and were able to see the views we had! It was a completely different world up there! We know we'll be back to Alaska many more times! Kona was very happy to be back with us! Thanks, Judith!

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  ปีที่แล้ว

      We're starting to understand all of this now too! It's been great to be here in our van as that provides the most flexibility. We stuck to car accessible sites and attractions for this trip. In future trips we'll definitely be taking to the skies so that we can see more. And then another trip to get to the Inside Passage!
      Oh that is a super good idea for teachers to come up here for the summer!
