Excellent documentary, 10/10 ! you gotta admire the chill in the Provos statement "We only have to be lucky once, you will have to be lucky always"! almost worthy of Shakespeare
All the violence, anguish, chaos, fear and destruction that was continuous up to 1998, when there was a peace deal on the table in 1974..makes you wonder. But the main thing is to prevent a return to anything resembling those days again.
They were proper close to getting her though werent they...cant be a coincidence that the Anglo Irish agreement happened pretty much immediately after this
Excellent documentary thanks for the upload, I was 11 yrs old when Brighton happened which was talked extensively at school, I had a few Catholic friends but they hated the IRA, today the conversation is about Muslims...how times have changed.
Enjoyed that history. Thanks. I was at University when that happened. I remember Norman Tebbit in his PJs getting stretchered out of the hotel. I did not like him much at the time but I felt great pity for him that day. There were some scumbags laughing at him. I could not understand their lack of empathy to another human being who was obviously in great pain!
I most certainly was no fan of Margaret Thatcher, she was a cold, arrogant and humourless woman who never did Scotland any good, but I am nevertheless completely against what the IRA did in Brighton. It's also absurd to say she murdered Bobby Sands. How can someone who chose to starve himself to death be a murder victim? A statement that goes against logic and rationality.
i still do this when i stay in hotels ,i put my money and valubals under the bed side cabbinett.never in the room safe .if you forget your safe number just ask the staff they put in 0000 ,and it opens ,i put my number in the room safe 3354 then i put in 0000 and it opens mad safes cheap in hotels .never use hotel safes .
You can have an opinion on the I.R.A you can like or dislike there actions! But the men that were in the I.R.A brought real terrorism to the streets of England! And like the Scottish won there freedom to an extent! Long may the peace last
After this, my dad became part of an elite team of Anti terrorism police, and he and his best friend were personally responsible for the safety of Margaret Thatcher. When my dad passed away, this year, pictures were shown of his time in the Army, when he first joined the police, when he was on anti terrorism and we actually had a photo of dad, at chequers with baroness Thatcher, in the photo. It was a fantastic photo and made me even more proud of my dad. I hardly ever saw my dad during those years. He was constantly on call, and as soon as my dad knew that Baroness Thatcher was in the area, he had to drop everything and get to Chequers. I will tell you a funny story about one time he went to chequers. When he got there, he had to get all his kit on, and wait for her arrival. His gun was loaded and they also had to have a spare clip of rounds. Suddenly dad got up, and searched everywhere for his round clip but couldn’t find it anywhere. They spent an hour looking for that round, before dad remembered that actually he had left them in the safe. That was typical of my dad, he was always losing stuff. Luckily no harm was done. That was the day my dad and his best friend (along with other officers in the elite team) had their photography taken with baroness Thatcher. It really was a tough time then, with all the home grown terrorism. It was hard on us, being his children, as he was hardly ever at home.
As an American I must say that it would probably be best if all UK police officers carried a firearm. Not just members of special units. Considering that despite tough gun regulations these thugs were able to get there hands on semiautomatic pistols it might be the difference between life and death for many officers over there.

Great documentary. Head and shoulders above the crap they slop out today.
They were so close in Brighton.
Ball's of steel no matter what you think.

Imagine during that rescue operation not knowing if there was another bomb in there
Good watch and very interesting. I do remember it and never really knew what the outcome was.
Supergrass is the stupidest word in law enforcement.

32:01 is that Paddy Kelly the leader of the East Tyrone Brigade? Killed along with his men at the Loughgall ambush?

This is never an answer and is a cowardly, snivelly way to do business.
How did they know what room she would be in.? Inside info?
Nah they were a rather smart lot were the RA......
......and in the 60/ 70/80's fulla ex British army...go figure......
It makes me shiver to think what the outcome would have been if the bomb was more successful.
24:40 A woman overdue for a toilet. lol
how do you have a bomb calendar on you that's not encrypted or at least written in a way that makes the context not so obvious.
23:52 That's my old house!
Blimey this is like the old 70s movie, day of the jacket!!
Curiously Anderson’s father was Church of Ireland
All the comments seem like they’re from actual ghosts. Highly frightened right now.
And now Martina is an MEP...

It's always strange when the English use the word "Blitz/blitzen". In German it's a normal word with different meaning(s)
Don't mess with the Irish

It was a dreadful attack, indeed! But my thinking is, it was a statement to what they can manage! Very scary! Very, very scary indeed! Very!
''they pay up to £100 a night for a room in one of the most fashionable spots in the West End''
most outrageous fact from this documentary
100 pounds a night in the best hotel... i wish lol
Who taught Sherry & Mghee counter surveillance? I'd do better than that, not once did they try any counter surveillance tricks,
15.36 The old dear is only interested in the "courting couple".

3:48 I seriously doubt PM Thatcher would go anywhere near that loo ..but ok ..
Um.... so as a foreigner I don’t understand why Irish people hate Margaret thatcher . Could someone explain it to me ?
good documentary ..now the entire show would of been about how racist Ireland is and how much diversity is our strength
Prime Minister Willie Whitelaw, for a while, then who knows?

A suite in a top notch hotel in the West End for a 100 quid?
Is it me, or does he bear an uncanny resemblance to Charles Manson?
Ad victoriam semper
How come they did away with armalites and you managed to get a bigger one ?
I think Bobby Sand's diet was to blame for his death.
Great police work.
100 pounds a night wizzie!!!
Never forgive nor forget
Lol. Are u joking? After everything the brits did in every country they occupied. You've a brass neck.
Good old Maggie she survived and lived on for nearly 30 more years!
God was on her side she had much work still to do:)
NOT in my name
> automatic pistol
That’s not a thing. Do Europeans not know anything about guns?

Fred West murdered Gerry Adams.
