No, they weren't. Like all other nations in the Centaura continent, both nations were imperialists. The very reason why Antares won against every nation was because they all believed to be the best nation, and that allying with the others would make them look weak. Even when Cetus fell, Aquila did not ally itself with their neighbors from the north and the east.
@@vinteb7987 during the South corvus war the Aquilans supplied cetus with manpower arms and muntions as well as taking in Cetan refugees. This alliance during the South Corvus war is what led to the invasion of Aqulia.
If Antares never got involved the conflict between Cetus and Aquila, then Aquila would have kept on pushing through Cetus, until they would reach the coast, then they would either be at the gates of Nauta, but never take it, or the only places in Cetus that would be independent would be the Western Islands. The only way I can think of that Cetus would defend against the invasion and keep a bit more of their land is that the Cetan naval officers weren't so cowardly and sent the Exercitus Maris to assist the Cetan Imperial army, which the Exercitus Maris had more personnel than the Cetan Imperial Army, so it could be enough for Cetus to keep a bit more their land, before forcing Aquila into peace negotiations with the majority of Cetus being occupied.
i’m pretty sure this did happen in the centaura lore but instead aquila won and that’s why the border is a straight line (aquila annexed eastern cetus to a certain longitude) also the Aquilan capital isn’t Altair it’s Volucris.
Fun fact: South Corvus wasn't captured in this timeline. Which makes this alliance not unlikely, as if Cetus as actually acting like a nation, it would try to ally with its neighboring countries and if they get good relationships with Corvus, they could build their ships in mass still. But this time not fighting a 2 front war
Make the alternate history when Orion still embrace conquests during 1800's I know it's nonsense so yeah. In lore, Orion learned a lesson from Libran Empire for keep doing that.
Aquila's mistake: They were too focused on 1 Front, To the fact that they lost Southern lands, Destabilized the Frontlines against the Cetans, and then Triggered the Antareans from their past Conflicts before. (They never should've done those past Conflicts to Antares)

Cetus is genuinely just an almost landlocked worse version of UK, with a great navy but in this case, terrible army.
