After watching your last video, I tried to lean more into the acting side of disguises, and I was actually so shocked by how trusting people can be if you actually act like the class you're disguised as. Also I passed a psychology course so that just makes me a really good spy player obviously.
This is what ive been saying for *years* The disguise kit is so underrated and I honestly wish they would fix some of the bugs with it like missing pyro heads and demo legs so it can be more consistent
A tip for some disguises from a 6k spy main. 1. If you jump and double tap crouch near the height of your jump while disugised as a scout, you can fool even highlander teams from time to time making them think you'd double jumped. Spies can't double jump, so they will disregard you for a bit. 2. If a Soldier is wearing gunboats as their secondary... don't disguise as them as they are most likely a roamer. Of course if they aren't wearing the boots or a rocket jumper, feel free to use their disguise. When disguised as a soldier, make sure to reload your revolver when someone is looking at you to reload his rocket launcher, and do it about 2-3 times in succession to mimic an actual soldier reloading his rocket launcher. Since Solder has the most obvious reload in the game, people will disregard you if they didn't know you were a spy. 3. Not much to say about the pyro disguise, although if your waiting around a corner as a disguised pyro, keep your secondary or melee out. Your flamethrower will poke out a lot and give you away. 4. Demo has the same tip as soldier, obvious reloads that you can chain. Or Melee out demoknight yelling "spy!" 5. Heavy, if your low hp running towards a health pack even if facing the enemy team whiile doing so is fine. Or holding out a lunchbox item while enemies are wounded to catch the food item. Free amby headshot this way. If the heavy has GRU, use them if not in a spot where you'd be shooting. Finally, if the enemy team has a medic that is well protected and you don't think you can get a stab, but can get a disguise/uncloak fully. Disguise as a heavy, call medic, and run towards your team. Their team will ignore you since you didn't try to stab anyone, and their medic will often follow you into his death. Or if he has uber, he might uber you at which point try to act like an uber heavy would to lure the medic in deeper to his doom. He also just wasted uber on an enemy spy, so yeah, you made him feel like a huge clown. 6. Engineer, a good sell for an engineer disguise is to hold your wrench out, crouch, and look in a corner where most engies set stuff up. If you know setup spots for engineers this will fool basically everyone but people who spycheck religiously. Of course this requires mental imaging to know where the enemy is likely to go after they look away from you, but yeah. 7. Medic... not really too many tricks here. You do have a unique "ubercharge ready!" command though! 8. Sniper... Additionally occasionally 'reload' your sniper rifle. This will make it seem like you took a shot, which can fool other snipers in the sniper nest unless you know, its the sniper your disguised as. 9. Spy... Really not much to say about this one. Its actually your worst disguise unless you need a disguise while with your team but you aren't going to disguise as your own team. Reason? this subconsciously reminds players that spies exist, and will make them more weary of you. So NEVER use this disguise. Walking in a straight line scout is better for your gameplan than a disguise that instantly flares up paranoia. Additionally a few tips for disguising as team mates. At the start of the round, disguise as a friendly heavy to make the other team think you have more heavies than you do. Additionally disguising as a friendly scout while your running from spawn is often a good thing because you don't have a chance of being seen as a spy, and thus enemy paranoia wont be heightened. They wont think twice about a scout going a bit slow on the enemy team. Additionally Scout is the best disguise to use to do dead ringer fakes because.... well how often do scouts run into sentry guns and die? But aside from friendly scout or heavy or medic disguises (Medic is in the same category as heavy, OR as the scout disguise, its a decent middle ground.) you wont use friendly disguises that often. There is one additional use for the friendly medic disguise if your doing a dead ringer fake, and thats to take a rocket and fake your death while your medic isn't in sight of that team member. This will make them think they got the medic pick and saves your medic. They will also attempt to get closer to you than other classes to get said pick, so you might lure them into a trap to get destroyed while you dead ringer away.
Thanks! I’ve never really though of enemy spy disguises like that. I use the spy disguise so I can be with my team and enemy sentries won’t shoot me lol
I’ve actually found decent success disguising as spy when my team is making a big push and pretending to hide amongst them. Take that with a grain of salt though, I don’t really have much experience and that might not work on high-level players
"You can ask your team to shoot you" Something better: say your team there is a spy as you, they would spycheck you. Edit: now that i think about it - this can be called triple acting.
For me, if I see a friendly spy disguised near the enemy, I will treat him like the rest of the enemy, just expecting it to either help his act, or get him caught.
I like to imagine that the Spy disguises are like Ditto from Pokémon. They all rely on the Spy’s memory of that merc, so when he gets confused, you get a Pyro with no head, or an Engie with a knife.
A funny little quirk you can do is while performing the A-pose glitch is to swap to the disguise kit and use the engineer or spy disguise and press b. Because the last held weapon is now null and void, the disguise kit will stay in your hand without automatically switching when pressing any of the numbers, and because of this quirk, you can equip the construction pda or the disguise kit on your disguise (to swap out of the disguise kit, type "build 3 0" in the console). It's EXTREMELY situational, since it has a long setup period, and it comes at the cost of either your instakill tool or your reliable backup tool.

It'd be interesting to see a Spy tier list following this, including disguises, weapons and tropes like trickstabbing. Basically anything that a Spy would do and how effective it is in general
Back in the day i used to play a lot of spy while pubbing with my friend. That said, i did still play a lot with every other class, spy just was my most used one. So over the months i kept learning how each class ticks, and as a side effect got more proficient with spy in turn as i learned how i ought to act. Meanwhile i was teaching my buddy my way of thinking like a spy, and it became pretty much an arms race of skill as we each got more proficient in the game. Some times hed end up as a the opposing spy, sometimes id end up as the opposing spy. In the end we just accidentally kept training each other to become stealthier and more convincing when playing spy, and more aware when playing any other class. It came to the point where the one of us playing spy would be consistently able to completely dumpster the lobby except for the other one of us since we had trained each other to be so damn paranoid.
I remember when I first played hitman (game of the year edition) and the whole idea of hiding in plain sight and disguising when people should be to only trick them. I definitely noticed a difference when I was playing spy. It's like a mindset thing, like watching to make sure no one sees you doing your things that would normally get you caught.
You can use double acting on a stair stab too by heavily telegraphing what you are going for and jumping just short of top of them so they turn around to counter you and turn their back to you
Personally I like to go friendly as spy and disguise as my own teams heavy so that whenever someone is nice back I can cloak and fade away like a ghost
The fact people say "DISGUISES DON'T FOOL GOOD PLAYERS" is proof it actually does. The intent of "fooling" is that it requires the enemy to think they are not being fooled.
a niche use I've had for disguising as your own team is to pop dead ringer, a spy dying quickly or just breaking his legs after falling 2 centimeters is an obvious feign but pedrominecraft2007 the F2P stock Pyro isn't exactly what the enemies will think of as a good player and they're honestly expected to just die without a fight, and dying whilst looking like a random enemy that was in no way a spy is a good way to get a convincing feign.
There was this recent moment that really got me. I was on defense at the beginning of the round. Some teammates and I managed to pin down a demo, soldier, and medic. My group and I took down the two power classes with relative ease, and I was going as a Pyro with the Dragon's Fury to land three fireballs on the medic for an important pick. Guess what happened next? The medic turned out to be a spy, which left me open for a quick ambush once I realized such. Clever spy...
This is easily my favorite kind of video. Of course the main videos are always so amazing, but any kind of post main video that's just a follow up/bunch of random stuff is so much more fun because it's so much more casual and well, follows up on a lot of the information
1. I watch these video's 2. I get motivated 3. I bootup tf2 and play spy 4. I die to the enemy pyro 5. I close tf2 again 6. I watch a video again 7. Repeat
8:17 You can disguise yourself as someone from your own team. I only found one use for it. My team had a Hoovy so I disguised myself as him, watched him die a few times while cloaked until the enemy team ignored him most of the time and just sat in the corner where he used to be. Nodded at people a couple of times, said thanks, passed up a few free backstabs in order to blend in. After a backstab, I just went back and crouched. When our Hoovy arrived, I cloaked and went somewhere else. When they killed him, I went back to his place. There was one pissed off Demoman that really hated Hoovies, so when I saw he died, I cloaked before he respawned. Worked a couple of times until the enemy team caught on but it was really funny.
bro, i want to thank you for helping me trying to get good at spy. These tips with disguises, paranoia, and and cloak stuff really helped me. I'm a scout main trying to play spy as he is my least played class and I want to try and main him and see what happens. yesterday, I got a triple stab and these player genuinely believed that I was a sniper, engineer, demo, etc. Thank you bro.
I cannot believe that the first spy featured in the video is named "Dubspol", which is a DEEP dig at the STAR_ and Jerma videos way back when. Holy shit. Great video boss. Editing is A1.
I'm trying so hard to get back into TF2 after a 3 year hiatus. Spy's always been my favorite class, and these videos have definitely made an improvement, tho most of the time I still screw it up. Love your content!
Kind of a cool thing that I'm not sure was talked about, scouts using the baby face blaster will move slower making it a bit easier for people to fall for you disguise
Very nice follow up! I'll elaborate on my disguise recommendations: Scout- This is mainly if the Scout has a pistol- if you crouch and go to a corner or so, it looks like you got out of an engagement and are reloading or whatever. Additionally, if your team has a Sentry, aim your pistol and crouch whilst looking at the sentry- It'll trick your enemies into thinking you're lining up a shot on the sentry. If the Scout has Mad Milk or a drink, if you crouch and call for Medic, it'll look like you're waiting for your team to show up so you can use that drink on the enemies. (This is my personal understanding) Demo + Sniper: These two classes are weak at close range, so if they whip out their melee, it looks like they're trying to hunt down a Spy (An enemy class trying to exploit that weakness.) Don't make too much of a habit of it, but it can usually work if you have melee out and start moving to the backlines while making people think there's a Spy. (Try going towards flank routes, such as the pit under First RED Spawn on Upward or the outside stairs on Doublecross) This especially works if they have a Non-Stock melee like the Pain Train or the Bushwacka because it shows you aren't clueless. Pyro: You covered this iirc, but it looks like you're engaging in mid-range combat.
Hey, just wanna say, i loved the first video about disguises, I mean the fact you went so deep as to see cosmetics and try to act like you had as much experience as someone with those cosmetics would was kinda funny, but also really interesting, and I kinda wanna see gameplay of that now lol
clicked on this video wanting to learn about spy. was hit in the face with PTSD from ultrakill... It has been over a year. I have just woken up. 10/10 amazing video i am way better now
Literally, the first spy that stabs you in a video is a reference to Jerma and Star and if that doesnt fit a video about shpee's IDK what will. Well done boss, banger video
There should be a video on how to set up disguise-related binds. I think dedicated buttons for common disguises (medic with the medigun, sniper, engineer with a wrench, pyro with a secondary) and three buttons to instantly switch the disguise's weapon to primary/secondary/melee then quickswitch to your previous weapon are useful.
Now I am an actor type spy.) Thanks to you.) Right now I am continously not learning how to trickstab. Just to practice this buetifull art. I an kinda new to the game , and my biggest killstreak is around 9.(and this killstreak was on my most played scout , and never been achieved once again.) ,Yet by simply acting and using terrain properly (with cloak and dagger) I managed to reach 5 killstreak as spy. Thank you for your videos.
A quick side note: You should make a bind to remove your disguise. Reason being is in the cases where you quickly need to remove your disguise to surf damage or to avoid spawn xray

Holy crap, ur channel is a hidden gem. Amazing videos, been watching for a while!
You can use double acting on a stair stab too by heavily telegraphing what you are going for and jumping just short of top of them so they turn around to counter you and turn their back to you
or, you know, just running after they stand still.
Personally I like to go friendly as spy and disguise as my own teams heavy so that whenever someone is nice back I can cloak and fade away like a ghost
subbed, thank you so much for highlighting how awesome disguises are!!!!!!!!!
The fact people say "DISGUISES DON'T FOOL GOOD PLAYERS" is proof it actually does. The intent of "fooling" is that it requires the enemy to think they are not being fooled.
Me vlogging my trip to London 0:51
Snipers are some of my favorite disguises because unless there’s a pyros checking, you can often just fool people.
a niche use I've had for disguising as your own team is to pop dead ringer, a spy dying quickly or just breaking his legs after falling 2 centimeters is an obvious feign but pedrominecraft2007 the F2P stock Pyro isn't exactly what the enemies will think of as a good player and they're honestly expected to just die without a fight, and dying whilst looking like a random enemy that was in no way a spy is a good way to get a convincing feign.
I appreciate the TFtubers that still educate people on the game, watching this video reminded me of when I first started playing Spy.
love the ultrakill intro also great video very motivated to play spy now!
I convinced an australium black box soldier to move in front of me while disguised as a heavy. Thank you Jontohil2.
Ultrakill reference heard. Subscribing.
I apreciate the ultrakillness of the editing
This is easily my favorite kind of video. Of course the main videos are always so amazing, but any kind of post main video that's just a follow up/bunch of random stuff is so much more fun because it's so much more casual and well, follows up on a lot of the information
Fun Fact : SPY HAS A GUN
2:30 oh i also think he was a spy because HE IS BURNING AS A PYRO
Wdym?
1. I watch these video's
2. I get motivated
3. I bootup tf2 and play spy
4. I die to the enemy pyro
5. I close tf2 again
6. I watch a video again
7. Repeat

You can disguise yourself as someone from your own team.
That was very much so implied in the episode. You didn't need to say this
Suggestion: how spy act in each team (defence and offence)
For disguises to work, play all class
3:43 killed me irl bro that was so funny
bro, i want to thank you for helping me trying to get good at spy.
Editing is A1.
ooooh that outro sounds very spooky
2:34 the reason why tf2 is my favourite is because of some of these panic moments with someone that after the panic both of you laugh
Another great episode of Spychology yes sir
I'm trying so hard to get back into TF2 after a 3 year hiatus. Spy's always been my favorite class, and these videos have definitely made an improvement, tho most of the time I still screw it up. Love your content!
God i love when you put those cut short screams they’re so good ☠️
Based ultrakill music choices and nice sfm/content? Subbed
Man I got fooled for the first time by a spy acting and it really threw me for a loop
Best education for spy and you had some good taste on Ultrakill ost
just watched your previous video, im definetly improving, im now getting a kd of 1 instead of 0.5 which is a good improvement
Dude tanks for helping by making these vids, i was playing spy as a sniper going directly to the medic's back lol
I watched this before playing ULTRAKILL so I was surprised by the background music on a re-watch
video: how to avoid enemies as spy
me: whatching to know how a good spy play to kill then
Kind of a cool thing that I'm not sure was talked about, scouts using the baby face blaster will move slower making it a bit easier for people to fall for you disguise
Yeah but nobody is going to look at your gun for long enough to see if it’s a baby face blaster when they can just shoot 1 shot to spycheck you
Dude, you edited your voice to sound like you are in a spacious room like im the background? Thats good attention to detail.
Very nice follow up!
I'll elaborate on my disguise recommendations:
Scout- This is mainly if the Scout has a pistol- if you crouch and go to a corner or so, it looks like you got out of an engagement and are reloading or whatever.
(This is my personal understanding)
Demo + Sniper: These two classes are weak at close range, so if they whip out their melee, it looks like they're trying to hunt down a Spy (An enemy class trying to exploit that weakness.) Don't make too much of a habit of it, but it can usually work if you have melee out and start moving to the backlines while making people think there's a Spy. (Try going towards flank routes, such as the pit under First RED Spawn on Upward or the outside stairs on Doublecross)
This especially works if they have a Non-Stock melee like the Pain Train or the Bushwacka because it shows you aren't clueless.
Pyro: You covered this iirc, but it looks like you're engaging in mid-range combat.
5:49 most accurate depiction of my thought process playing spy
your channel is soo underrated
I like that you put music in this video from ULTRAKILL.
something really evil I imagine you could pull off would be to act like a spinbotter disguised as the enemy sniper to get them kicked.
10/10 amazing video i am way better now
3:47 you killed pootis
Very informative and good advices about disguises, thank you for this video!
This channel is really underrated, you deserve way more subs dude
Nothing makes me feel more like an evil little goblin than using the “Thanks” voice line to the enemy medic as they heal me.
Hey man, your videos are fucking awesome, I'm genuinely having more fun playing spy thanks to your tips!
Literally, the first spy that stabs you in a video is a reference to Jerma and Star and if that doesnt fit a video about shpee's IDK what will.
Well done boss, banger video
like an hour after i binge your stuff and subscribe there's a new video
it's a christmas miracle
an Australian bloody Christmas miracle
it’s November doe
@@Jontohil2 It gets even funnier if I say it in January, trust me.
I love these spychology videos, there really helping me play as spy easier
3:39 this part was so funny to me cause the heavy was fully convinced his salvation had come but it was his demise LOL
Didnt expect death odyssey after the one voice evryone uses as v1 in a tf2 video
How the hell does this man only have 6k subs this man is fucking amazing at editing and an amazing youtuber overall
i like your editing thank for the france tutorials
Spy is my second least played class but you have helped me want to try him out again. Thanks.
5:16 that cutoff made me laugh for some reason
I actually took your advice and I’m surprised that it worked 3 times out of 5!
I've actually tried these strategies out lately after the first video, and it definitely works a lot better and is so much goddamn fun
I love how stylish this series is
Really good content man :)
I don’t even play spy and rarely touch tf2 due to bots, but holy moly I love watching your videos! Keep it up man!
It is nice to see new tf2 videos from a new creator i wish u luck
2:52 the fact that the disguise is so good that Jontohil even managed to confuse himself
Now I am an actor type spy.)
Thanks to you.)
Right now I am continously not learning how to trickstab.
My man’s didn’t even count the pyro being on fire as a giveaway for the spy
I personally disagree with your opinion on “Spy-chology” but it’s your channel, and respect your choice to not name this series that.
5:56 Bro just got a Neuron Activated 😂😂😂
That advice about heavy bringing out the sandwich from comments is ultra evil
2:30 not only that but he was on *FIRE*
And i wouldn't even realise it if you didn't mention it
Pyro mains with paranoia spychecking every damn corners
