It’s all fun and games until Uncle Dane uses scripts to destroy the dispenser while he’s dead because in his words: “no destruction points and f**k you.”
10:49 This was genuinely, by far, the best guest appearance I have ever seen in a video. Period. There was a gimmick for years where the guest would "hack" into the host's video, give a canned line reading for their segment, then leave, but this is so fluid. The way Dane cuts into the "Spy has a gun" joke to talk about Engineer's combat capabilities, a favorite topic of his. The way both of you swap back and forth reading the script, explaining the situation from each class's perspective. The way each line flows into the next as one well written script read by two people. And how you finish off with in-sync disdain for Random Crits. It's so fucking perfect. Fantastic work.

right!? like, if you REALLY want to destroy a sentry, play soldier or demo. Kill that sentry from a distance and LIVE afterwords FOR SIGNIFICANTLY LESS EFFORT
@@poyloos4834 problem with soldier or demo sometimes is that they can lose to a sentry immediately if the Engineer knows a good spot that gets their sentry out of range. This wouldn't be much of a problem if it was one engineer, but if the enemy team has about 3-4 engineers, it's actually impossible to break through that defense because an engineer will be working on repairing the front sentry with assistance from the sentries at the back and hidden away, thus requiring a medic and good teamwork to pull through. Then the Pybros come in with their flamethrowers and push you away while their medics counter uber. Now it has gone from bad to worse. This isn't a rare scenario btw, this is a common one when the defending team is really desperate to win. This is where spy excels. And when you're on the receiving end, it feels like such garbage because you can be doing really well and win the fight through being good at the game, which feels amazing, but then they hit you once and whatever strategy or experience you have is immediately invalidated. Maybe this doesn't bother people who don't care about getting better at the game, but a lot of players find it really rewarding to improve, and random crits will spontaneously invalidate that JUST frequent enough to get on your nerves.
The soldier got fucking jaunted. Don't be fooled, it was longer than you think. Do you really think disrupting quantum physics to teleport someone to a location kilometres away takes a fucking second?
I honestly love the music choice for all the different strategies, it makes it feel like they're each a boss fight to overcome, and you're in a boss rush with each of them.
I think you're underestimating the disepenser's importance. While it isnt usually the priority, there ARE definitely times when its the one thing keeping a team in the lead, such as when defending on last, where a large group of power classes are clustered around it. In these instances, the sentry is often located elsewhere as a last ditch defense and the teleporter isnt a factor. Its important to be aware that sometimes, that dispenser IS the thing keeping you from pushing, and taking it out at the perfect moment can completely disrupt the enemy team.
I don't think dispensers are the factor keeping the enemy team on your path. But a dispenser means that if the sentry is destroyed, it can be rebuilt and upgraded in a short time. Therefore destroying the dispenser will prevent the nest from being rebuilt if it loses the sentry too.
The dispenser can also be a wall if you need to slow down the enemy team. I use this strategy on 2fort when I'm the only engineer, and I need to protect both entrances. Edit: Is this what you meant? Am I dumb?
i love every single animation, transition, and little quirk- audio included! this has such high production value, i'm loving watching them get better and better. nice work :)
Something i should also add is that if you see a fellow spy about to engage an engineer, PUSH IN. Itll give the spy more time to sap the buildings, and cause a distraction to the engineer for a backstab.
Wow, excellent video; content, editing, presentation - good job! As an engineer main, the best lines when dominating a spy: "If y'all had more gadgets for killin' , you wouldn't need so many for hidin'.", "I just beat on your sneaky ass like a mule, boy!", "Now just stop tryin' ta mess with my contraptions."
Important thing I think you missed with the Frontier Justice: If the engie whiffs his shot, but still some pellets hit and you don't die instantly, the CRITICAL HIT! marker above your head stays visible even when cloaked, so don't overstay your welcome if the engie doesn't 1 tap you
The editing is amazing! You just keep getting better. Laughed out loud so many times, especially during the Uncle Dane cameos. If the spy is engineer's foil, then he is sniper's rival. Just a thought I had while watching.
All the engineer's buildings can also be taken advantage of by spy in some way. You can surf any sentry if you're advanced enough and the enemy team isn't immune to the level 3 rockets, dispensers are obviously support tools that can also be leverage to trickstab off of and teleporters can be the perfect traps and can also be jumped off of. Though aside from those points, it's unreal how well designed these two classes are in accordance with each other.
What do you mean by "the enemy team isn't immune to the level 3 rockets"? Sentry can not friendly fire anyone except its own engineer. Period. And even then, it's not just rockets, it's also the bullets.
As always, the Spy Psychologist nails it once again. Even if a Spy is my destined rival as an Engineer main, watching a video about fighting Engineer is still a fun experience.

You did mention it about engineers teleporting to the teleporter, but something you can do is try to hide behind where the teleporter makes the enemy face when teleported so you can rack up a bunch of kills and then once you feel like it, you can destroy the teleporter and leave.
15:12 That's why i have a bind that says in team chat "SENTRY DOWN" , it's great when you see at least 1 teammate who had read chat and push to destroy all the remaining. Also , an additional strategy that can be really useful , is that if your team is really aggressive but can't do anything because of a weird placed sentry kept by a good engineer , you should know that the Enforcer is really powerful to destroy sapped sentry because it passes through the resistance given by the sapper , and the first hit deals a lot of damage. It can sometimes work to just focus so hard on the sentry that you destroy it faster than the engineer kills you.
I've gotta say this here, but spy psychology is one of, if not THE best TF2 video essay on TH-cam right now (maybe how it FEELS, but it's not really a video essay). I love your more dynamic videos reliant less of talking and more with visuals, yet still keeping an even balance of both. Valve, hire this man (real)
I love this comparison of the spy & engineer being foils/rivals as opposed to hard counters to one or the other, bc they have a similar support role in the team. Both engineer and spy defensively can completely stuff an enemy push, and while the engineer has less offensive utility, depending on how well he can hide his teleporter the amount of pressure he can add to your team’s pushes is phenomenal, in a similar way to how a good med pick or timely sap can be the reason your team’s push succeeds.
15:30 I have to disagree about the dispenser being lowest priority for sapping. For the engineer’s team it can be less important, but if you destroy everything but a dispenser, that’s almost as little as destroying nothing because the Engineer can often rebuild based off the dispenser alone. In my experience it’s often the most important building to sap, especially if you sap other buildings.
20:07 im an enigneer main that primarily uses the short circuit in my loadouts, Id like to point out that the engi can use the primary fire of the short circuit to spy check. if the engineer hits a player with it, it will show a tiny little energy ball at the end of the bolt which will work on cloaked spys, keep in mind that the ball on the end of the bolt shows up on the engineer's teamates to so this wont spy check disguised spys that arent invis, the short cicuits primary fire effectivly works like a mini flame thrower for the engineer that doesnt light you on fire. also remember that the sencondary fire still exists to which can also be a problem for any of you spies aswell, and yes I am sacrificing my main (suprise)counter to the spy as engi for the good of the people

You did mention it about engineers teleporting to the teleporter, but something you can do is try to hide behind where the teleporter makes the enemy face when teleported so you can rack up a bunch of kills and then once you feel like it, you can destroy the teleporter and leave.
10:51 thank you uncle Dane
15:24 that transition was fire
16:46 I've got a feeling I heard this in a WAY earlier Spy Psychology video...
17:20 "OBAEMA MOE SHINDERIU"
"NANIIIII?!"
It can sometimes work to just focus so hard on the sentry that you destroy it faster than the engineer kills you.
how do you bind a text message
@@mamanimepranknewbie in the consol : "bind [key] "say_team [phrase here]" "
For me it's : bind [PAGE_UP] "say_team SENTRY DOWN"
@@MINICUBANT thanks!
16:47 while all of you were focused on the Uncle Dane and HintShot cameos, an elmaxo cameo was hiding in plain sight.
Ah yes my favorite Pizza Tower OST "Pimpin' hot stuff"
(The Description)
I've gotta say this here, but spy psychology is one of, if not THE best TF2 video essay on TH-cam right now (maybe how it FEELS, but it's not really a video essay). I love your more dynamic videos reliant less of talking and more with visuals, yet still keeping an even balance of both.
Valve, hire this man (real)
13:49 Airblast for your life, wee lil pybro.
The production quality and comedic timing in the video is on point. Super well done!
16:24 “blee a blessing”
I love this comparison of the spy & engineer being foils/rivals as opposed to hard counters to one or the other, bc they have a similar support role in the team. Both engineer and spy defensively can completely stuff an enemy push, and while the engineer has less offensive utility, depending on how well he can hide his teleporter the amount of pressure he can add to your team’s pushes is phenomenal, in a similar way to how a good med pick or timely sap can be the reason your team’s push succeeds.
11:40 DID I HEAR A ROCK AND STONE
Rockitty rock and stone
ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE!!!
ROOOCK AAND STOOONNNEEE
IF YOU DONT ROCK AND STONE YOU AINT COMIN HOOME

I thought you were HintShot.
20:53 MARTICIDOPANTS REFRENCE
Impressed by the opening sequence. Good job, editor!
I always felt like Engie Tf2ber and Spy Tf2ber would send hate mails to each other with a gift basket along with it for the fun times
17:17 that part made me laugh
*Eureka effect*
Bro found the third option
20:07 im an enigneer main that primarily uses the short circuit in my loadouts, Id like to point out that the engi can use the primary fire of the short circuit to spy check. if the engineer hits a player with it, it will show a tiny little energy ball at the end of the bolt which will work on cloaked spys, keep in mind that the ball on the end of the bolt shows up on the engineer's teamates to so this wont spy check disguised spys that arent invis, the short cicuits primary fire effectivly works like a mini flame thrower for the engineer that doesnt light you on fire. also remember that the sencondary fire still exists to which can also be a problem for any of you spies aswell, and yes I am sacrificing my main (suprise)counter to the spy as engi for the good of the people
14:48 has pepper man strikes for the music
OH YE-A-A-A-A-A-A-A COME ON!
