Saw you on The History Underground with JD and had to check out your series. I have a feeling I am going to love this.
Welcome aboard!
Same.
I'd love to have a walk around Normandy with James, it would be so fascinating and I could really geek out over WW2.
My Grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy at Omaha Beach either Easy Red or Fox Green. He was part of the first wave in the 20th Combat Engineers battalion. He earned a Silver Star for his actions that day.
Thankyou it was because of your grandfather and many many more brave soldiers from many nations some who survived and many who fell that day that helped bring the war in Europe to an end.
I am so stoked to watch these. I desperately want to walk these grounds myself and to see these two gentlemen do it and speak through it is something special.
Absolutely love it. Would kill for a Market Garden series too!
You may be in luck…keep an eye out later in the year for Season 2.
@@WW2WalkingTheGroundif you could cover the Recce squadron outside of the C troop ambush, that would be great!
My grandfather was in 12 section, D troop.
I definitely haven't watched these videos in the right order. but I've loved them all. Love Arromanche too. It's the only place to start.
I went to a small British cemetery there, years ago, and they had an old veteran sitting reflecting, He was grumping that the French hadn't been grateful enough. As I found out more of the cost of defeating the Germans, the number of French civilians who died during the campaign, I can see why, if not resenful, at least their joy was subdued.
So excited for this series! It looks set to be a brilliant. I imagine myself walking along with Jim and Al and listening in to their conversations! Can’t wait for each episode to land.
We need more Al Murray
Love to get a copy of Stanley C’s map. Any chance of them being available for download?🙏🏼
As a lover of your podcast I'm really looking forward to the rest to this series. I won't bother saying "have fun" because I know you will!
Smith here reporting for duty! Good stuff. Can't wait.
You guys are the best … off to buy Mr Holland books.. respect to u both!
And I screamed "my dad had a map case like that" and loving it. Wish I still had it. This is going to be so good. Thank you.
James nice set of binoculars made by Hughes , used by RAF ( Nightfighter crew), Al has what looks like a set of Kershaws. Love the "pods" you folks do.
This is so awesome as an American to watch. I doubt I’ll ever get to see this historical place but it’s awesome learning about it in the meantime from these two
Retracing not only the footsteps of giants, but also mine. Your itinerary is the same route I took in March - you thieving gits 🙂. Brilliant.
Can’t wait 😊 love your podcast and to watch you on TH-cam out and about is superb
Great to see these 2 together always entertaining and interesting/informative
Always wanted to walk the ground just brilliant
These should be great! Always entertaining when these two get together.

Oh, I'll definitely have a bit of this. You guys are my favourite podcast.
I know it’s not June cos our Leger tour followed them round in May! Met them at Pegasus Bridge and had the pleasure of saying to Al today “last time we met was at Pegasus Bridge “
I love you guys, listened from day 1 and I’ve heard them all ❤
Just want to say how much I am enjoying the series. I really like the 'uncut' approach. Excellent ! Will you do something on the rocket sites in the Pas de Calais? Thanks, Nicholas Anthony (Author Bellum Sanctum)
Can't wait to watch these, guys!
I've been looking forward to this and I'm not disappointed. Great rapport between them and looking forward to seeing the journey unfold.
A Dunkirk series could be interesting including St Valery en Caux.
Great stuff looking forward to this
I'm visiting Normandy in 3 weeks time with 2 mates. can't wait
Great start ! 👏👏👏
My grandfather, Leonard Deacon helped build those Mulberries.
Chepstow IC checking in!
Looking to go next year and a map might be a good idea.
Fantastic stuff. 👍
Brilliant, bring it on 😊
This is great!

Subscribe and keep an eye out for alerts this week for the next episode.
Well done!
One year I'll make We Have Ways Fest. Hopefully next year for the 80th!
This is a happy second place though
Hewitt of the Ind Coy reporting!
Lovely stereo backwards!😂❤
I very excite!....
Nice car, great episode, but...
Where is Woody?
Which building firm got it wrong though; the ones who's caissons collapsed after two months or the ones who squandered valuable materials and over-engineered their caissons to last 80 years?
As if the war waffle wasn't enough in audio form... now we've got video too 🎉
Going to love this series... tho 8:17 it irrationally boils my piss the way James can't say Greenock properly. "Green-ock".
"And this is where the barmen landed at Gold Beach..."
They made sure they landed with their beer kegs. Fighting makes a man thirsty
I can hear Richard Holmes spinning in his grave lol
Why would he ?
It just feels a bit icky to watch james with all his replica WW2 kit. just my opinion
Brilliant work, can’t wait to watch the rest.
The reversed stereo really off-putting
Didn't realize till I turned my phone, yeah it's bad😂
just war waffle
A bad thing?
