Very interesting! Would love to see how they were creating the organic forms in SketchUp. It is not a simple push and pull of vertical walls.

I also made sure that using Sketchup it is easy to communicate with builders

It'd be good to add some context as to how Sketchup was used so as to not confuse people as to what Sketchup can do. The project was designed and modeled by LMN Architects using Grasshopper for Rhino plus Revit. None of the building geometry was created with Sketchup. Turner Construction used a combination of Grasshopper, Rhino, Revit and some Sketchup to do modeling for sequencing and construction planning.

This is so exciting to see what can be done with Sketchup, the software just keeps getting better and the cross discipline communication keeps improving as a result.

    Awesome project.
14:29 "Oops, looks like somebody forgot to weld before using Follow Me", and somebody literally implemented the design😁
    Thanks Aaron!

Thank you Aaron for this video and your time sharing us this content. It was very useful. I hope you show us more examples to explain more about SketchUp modeling features.

I love the "Built in SketchUp" series! It's great that as a tinkerer/maker, the tools I've come to love and use (and that my school-aged kids can also use) are the same tools used by professional architects and designers. Also, congrats to @aarondietzen2995 on the callout/props from Trimble CEO Rob Painter on this great video! I can't wait to go back to Seattle to check out the Aquarium.

Even though I may have a few complaints about the Sketchup Team :), watching this video brought me immense joy! It's precisely what I was looking for, and I encourage you to keep producing content in this video format.

We plan to! Of course, this level of production does take more time than the shorter content, but we do home to release a few of these each year!

I’ve been checking the progress frequently coming up 3 years. I’ve not heard if there will be funds to polish up the old aquarium a bit.

So yes, I think it’s a good idea that SketchUp can do this step. I think it will be more easier than revit. I mean as a very fast sketch using iPad for example.

I thought it was only Revit that can make all these details when the building is under construction. So we have now another competitor software. I remember when I was working as site engineer., I want using such the software to give us a construction background of how the building will be built in the future so we can avoid all the mistakes or conflicts during building.

I know I am biased, but making changes to a model during construction or generating information for RFIs is SO much easier with SketchUp than in those other softwares!

I'm so happy that you are finally going in the right direction. The majority of Sketchup users are architects, and it's a shame that the Sketchup Team has permanently ignored them.

    • @SketchUp

Sorry to hear you say that! The majority of our userbase is now and always has been architects and building designers. We feel that most of our content directly supports those users!
