  • I've been testing the BOBOVR S3 Pro Battery Strap for Meta Quest 3 over the last few weeks to see how it stacks up as a battery strap solution for Quest 3.
    This video is going to cover everything you need to know about this head strap, my experience of using it, and all the pros and cons, to help you decide if this is a good head strap for you to choose for your Quest 3.
    I own three other battery head straps for Quest 3 and I've been able to test them head-to-head to see which one is the best. Hope this video is helpful. Thanks for watching.

    I love your reviews enough to have subscribed and this one was highly anticipated! You have some really nice pros and cons. I haven't seen many comparisons of standard head straps, and the reason that would make sense to do is because a lot of kids need lighter weight as well as for wearing for long periods of time, relaxing on the couch or playing a very aerobic style game you need less weight. So a lighter head strap with an external battery pack would make more sense in all those use cases, but nobody is doing any comparisons from this perspective. This is a completely valid perspective to investigate because of the Apple Vision Pro's approach to head straps and that thing is heavier with an external battery pack. So along those lines, and for all those who might thing heavier and more complicated is not as good, a video comparing regular head straps and their valuable use cases would be highly welcome!

      @VRLowdown  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great feedback, and thanks for subscribing. I've got a few regular head straps for Quest 3, but only put a little time into testing them. You make a good point about using a tethered battery pack. This might work quite well, particularly in view of AVP''s approach.

    For the battery buzz:
    It seems that this only happens when the Quest3 is at high battery %.
    If you unplug the battery and let the Quest3 get down to 70% or 50%, and then reconnect the battery, the buzzing sound won't be there.

    I use this with the AMVR face cushion. You are right, what I did was move the strap over the hump of the face cushion so it sits just behind it and it works great. You will have to slide the head strap unit a bit out so the sides won’t be flushed but still slides in enough. My battery takes 8 hours to charge using the quest 2 power brick, probably need to use a better brick for it. I’ve been very happy with mine and the fact that I could still use it with the more comfortable AMVR face cushion was a win for me. Thanks for the review! Oh I don’t get any hum on mine.

    • @VRLowdown
      @VRLowdown  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Glad to hear that you're not getting any hum from the battery. May just be an issue with some units. I have a similar experience to you when using the AMVR interface. I can def get it to work, and it's very comfortable, but it's a tight squeeze and leaves no room for adjustment. Really impressed with the S3 Pro head strap overall. So comfy regardless of what facial interface I use.

      I use it also, it just means you can't rotate the front arm/hinge on the strap, without turning the other hinge (next to the lenses) first.
      I don't get any noise either, guess it's just luck.

    Great review! I am using the Bobovr M3 Pro because they don't directly ship the S3 to my country, and I have to wait for resellers :(.These head straps are great for mixed reality without a face interface. In fact, 90% of the time, I use my Quest in this way.

    Great review! One point however, BOBOVR explicitly warns against charging the headstrap battery while it's attached to the headset. Per bobovr, don't charge the battery while it's charging the Quest 3

    Thw worst thing about it is the fan. Not the noise but it's effectiveness. With the cushion and can right on the forehead, it blocks most of its airflow power and with a bunch of messing around you might get it to blow some air into the eye space, but very hard to achieve. Definitely needs to rework their fan and actually make it useful.

    One thing you didn't cover was the ability to get extra batteries--though at a price for sure. And they have that charger that can supposedly charge the batteries faster and can do up to three at once.
    But with my Quest 2 I was happily working with the M2 pro and I never had to get another battery though it would have been nice. (I sold that setup to a nice family that would not have been able to buy a HMD at full price.) I may consider getting another battery for the S3 anyway. Another side not is that BoboVR now has upgrade kits for their older straps to convert them to be able to use the new battery but sadly the socket is not backwards compatible with the older batteries.
    My big question is have you found a good facial interface that pairs up nicely with the S3 yet? I'd be happy to find a good, more breathable option.

    @VR Lowdown How is the wobble versus the kiwi? I bought both for the quest 2 but I'm very active in VR and the Bobo wobbled More than I was comfortable. This led to me having to tighten down and adjust Bobo until it was giving me headaches.
    I've heard from several reviews that the wobble is slightly improved with bobo's quest 3 strap. What would you say?
    The advantage is that Bobo sent most other reviewers a head strap in the reviews are pretty damned bias.

      Try the BoboVR C2 Case which fits this S3 Pro and the M2/M3 Pro perfectly. At some point in the near future BoboVR are supposedly releasing a new case especially for the S3 Pro as well as a separate Dock with an extra B100 Battery which would should mean continuous gameplay by switching batteries whilst in use.

      I just disconnect the battery after I'm done, so I don't think there's much of a role for a button to turn the headstrap off. I just turn my headset off in the normal way, disconnect the battery, and then charge both.

    I've seen some people say for games were there's a lot of movement, maybe turning around fast and often, that the official elite battery strap would keep the headset on your head better whereas the BOBOVR S3 would tend to move around more during these movements.
    What's your opinion on this? If i'm looking for both comfort and stability with quick movements, would the Elite be more stable?

    • @Mapleaple
      @Mapleaple 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi I own this headstrap, and I hate to say it, but you will still have to be careful turning or tilting your head down too quickly. It's a heavy headset with the battery on the back. The fan really doesn't do much neither and would be difficult for the fan to really keep the V.R from fogging.
      Overall it's great and you really can tighten it to make it more stabl, but then a lot of the pressure goes back around your eyes instead of your head, which makes the whole Halo part irrelevant. The battery is amazing allowing you to play V.R for gosh like 5 hours. Charges pretty fast with a fast usb c charger.

      @@Mapleaple Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and got the elite battery strap. Though after using it for a while and realizing the battery life on it was still shit, sometimes I was getting like 2 and a half hours total running Virtual Desktop, I went ahead and got an extra battery pack that I keep in my pocket and connect with a wire to the elite battery strap while I play.
      Sometimes it seems like the elite battery strap struggles to push power to the headset quickly enough as sometimes I'll be down to 25% headset battery and 85% elite strap battery as it's being charged by the battery pack, but just yesterday I was able to play for 5 hours and I was still at 25% headset and 85% elite strap battery levels with the battery pack at like 7%.

      FWIW, I retired my 7-year-old DAS when moving to the Quest 3. I purchased it for my Vive, then purchased Frankenquest mods for the Quest 1 then Quest 2. I'm using the Kiwi battery headstrap now and what I can say is that I like the Kiwi far more than the DAS. I was very surprised to discover that I actually prefer Quest 3's native audio to the DAS. Obviously that's subjective, but that was the primary reason I kept using the DAS. Also, it is MUCH nicer not having to tether battery to the headset with the DAS. I can't give you any advice on the S3 Pro (other than that I've only seen favorable reviews) but I do think you're on point wanting to retire your DAS. The Quest 3 is very power hungry and a proper battery strap is a must-have and you'll have a better experience whether you get an S3 Pro or a Kiwi battery strap IMHO.

    S3 is simply the dumbest headstrap. They flew too close to the sun. Not compatible with old batteries, new batteries don't have charge indicators, the charge indicator on the strap itself makes no sense at all, a ridiculous fan and a ridiculous high price. I wasn't aware that it didn't work with AMVR interface, making it even more crappy.

      its expensive however it works as it should and as expected. i should mention;
      -old 5k battery shape is different because of the form factor of the battery however i couldn't care less if its compatible because its w output and 5k is simply not enough for q3.
      -there is a charge light indicator on battery
      -tiny display on headstrap shows exact percentage of power status and fan status
      -additional fan is subjective but its a welcome one for hot climates and long sessions. Its just another tool in my arsenal to help combat foggy lenses.
      -i have amvr and s3. it's a little finicky to adjust yet working together just fine. Understand that this depends on your face/headshape.
      one thing i gotta say i dislike is that it is VERY heavy. Mostly because build quality and 10k battery on it but theres simply no other way.
      Ive been using this thing for a while now and i like it. Could have been better for the price but theres simply little to no competition out there.
      BoboVR as a brand established a healthy business along with the community. I would rather buy BoboVR now rather than no name aliexpress knock offs.
      same can be said for new emerging companies that follows bobo too.
      if i could buy another q3 right now, id simply buy another s3 too.
