The name "Separation Anxiety" was the name of the comic book story arc that the game was based on. It's a term for when people have excessive anxiety from being apart from their home or loved ones - or in Venom's case, having part of his alien symbiote "harvested" from him and turned into five new villains.

Maximum Carnage has a buch of moves. You have the scorpion type move. You can stand between two enemies and shoot web at both simultaneously and smash them together. You have a shield and can scroll the wall and jump kick off of it. Really great LJN game
Maximum Carnage was the best superhero game of the 90's. Along with X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. Superman was cool too. The Adventures of Batman and Robin. Wildcats. There were quite a few.
i remember screen by screem walkthroughs in print magazines of Maximum Carnage and wanting it so bad. The comics already were great and back then it looked like a top notch game to younger me.
If you know your comics; 'Seperation anxiety' is the prequel to maximum carnage and only features spiderman, Venom, the life foundation and its employes(symbionts too) and NO Carnage.
no different ending tote story in maximum carnage, different levels sometimes depending on who you pick, the last 2 stages you play as both spiderman and venom (you switch between them at will)
Back in high school I played Maximum Carnage every day for a span of months, and during that time I became so proficient at beating it I would actually time my runs and try to beat them - you'd be surprised just how much time you can shave off when you memorize the spacing of the enemies and spam the hell out of the double-enemy attack (standing between enemies and tapping A). Also, don't go to San Francisco or the Statue of Liberty - you get more power-ups in the alternate levels.
I never liked single player side scrolling beat'em ups so while maximum carnage did have better presentation, separation anxiety was just more fun. Aside from all SA bosses being carnage clones, it just feels more fun to play with a friend but both games had room for improvement.
Arcade's Revenge was difficult beyond belief. I remember when my dad came home with it on Sega. I never got past the first Gambit level. Storm always drowned. Cyclops kept falling into the mines, I could never stop the Juggernaut from charging in but I did manage to clear all of the Spider-Man levels. My dad faired better as he actually beat the 2 Cyclops stages. The music kept us going, honestly. Separation Anxiety was another game that was difficult because of the aggressive AI but that's a game that I can actually finish now as an adult.
I only had issues with the two wolverine bosses. Apocolypse almost always killed me, and the one or two times I got to the second stage I couldnt figure out I was supposed to kill jugernaut. Liked the rest of the stages though. Went back and beat it as an adult after watching a couple of videos explaining how to beat the wolverine bosses.
Maximum Carnage isn't as hard as it gets credit for. You have to know where the 1ups and extra heroes are. Carnage is tough but the trick is to keep switching between Spiderman and Venom to get that second of invulnerability, and be patient. Do that stuff and it's beatable.

Bosses were the only thing that turned into a race to see who's life bar drained first, but if you managed to save most of your lives and continues by throwing regular enemies there should be enough health to get through the bosses. 😄👍

I have to agree with you on maximum carnage being the best of the bunch but I think you were a little harsh with separation anxiety...it's not a bad game at all. Yes, you are correct on carnage being way better but I still enjoy the second one a lot too. Whatever, we all have our own opinions.
I've only played Maximum Carnage recently, since I hadn't heard of it until recently. I did however play Separation Anxiety a lot as a kid and it was a ton of fun mostly because it was the only co-op beat em up my older brother and I had to play and we had a blast with it. A lot of good memories with that game.
I remember in third grade, my best friend was able to buy this for about $50 brand new after saving up his "good report card money". We were all so excited, he brought the red cartridge to school just to let us see it and hold it. One of the best SNES games of all time.
Doom was a grey cart in Europe, at least both copies I've owned were, so I think Maximum Carnage is the only red one here. It's insanely expensive too. D'oh.
I freakin' love Maximum Carnage. I owned the Sega Genesis version. Is one of my favorite games. I was so into it back then I could beat it without loosing a single life.
Back then I could never find a copy of Maximum Carnage. I did manage to find Separation Anxiety at a pawn shop for $10 so I picked it up and me and my brother played the hell out of it.
I really do think Separation Anxiety is better than Maximum Carnage. The difficulty is much more balanced, the enemy AI is better and the controls are tighter. But most importantly, it has co-op, which just instantly elevates it higher than its predecessor. Maximum Carnage's only real advantage is the comic cutscenes. I can't even fully agree that the sprites are worse, since I think the only one that looks worse is Venom. Additionally I have to wonder why you believe that the enemy types are the same. Separation Anxiety has all of Maximum Carnage's enemies, but also introduces a bunch of new Life Foundation enemies, and has entirely new bosses aside from Carnage.
If your still having trouble beating maximum carnage try it on the Sega flashback. 10 save slots you can use anywhere in the game and the rewind function.
The '90s animated Spiderman needing cartridges for his web was such a contrivance to get him into jeopardy whenever he runs out of fluid. It's an aspect that doesn't translate well to video game.
Maximum Carnage is pretty cool even for someone who is only mildly interested in the comic series. I noticed the average price went up after infinity war came out
Maximum Carnage is really tough, but it's legitimately fun, and it's one of the few games from back then that I played so much I legitimately mastered it. Separation Anxiety however, is legitimately terrible in every way.
"The music is also a weird fit. I like it, but it's just not what I would've expected." The Spider-man & X-Men in Arcade's Revenge soundtrack is so amazingly good that it's worth buying the game and an SNES JUST to hear it. Phenomenal. The graphics in that title were great for that time too, and Spider-Man's levels are a blast to play. I only wish the X-Men's stages were as good.
Funny you should mention the Genesis X-Men game when talking about the Spiderman Animated Series game as they both were made by the same developer, Western Technologies Inc.
I seem to be the only person alive who actually loved separation anxiety. I don't know why people hate on it so much but it was one of my favorite games. I played mine on Genesis though so maybe that made a difference.

D'oh.
An LJN game that's good!??!?!!!
AVGN is screaming in excitement!!!!!
Arcade's Revenge is worth the buy, if only for the soundtrack by the Follin Brothers.
What about the one with the Fantastic Four..?
I remember it as a stand alone title for the SNES, or is it the Animated Series one..?
Used to *LOVE* Maximum Carnage. Cept I had it on Genesis.
this was the first game i played on the snes as a toddler, with donkey kong country and shaq fu. such a great game.
Fun Fact about Green Jelly : the lead singer is Maynard of the band Tool
Such a shame maximum carnage wasn't co-op. Also, kinda sad they even reused carnage as the main antagonist/last boss in separation anxiety.
That’s how the comic went.
@@aelechko didn't even know that but still kinda sucks the only two games like this have the same last boss
Spidey games are always fun. Ive just completed Spider-man The Animated Series. But Maximum Carnage is a classic!
I've seen my share of Spider-Man games, but I've never in my life seen a red jalapeño
I freakin' love Maximum Carnage. I owned the Sega Genesis version. Is one of my favorite games. I was so into it back then I could beat it without loosing a single life.
How did LJN make Maximum Carnage? A pretty good and faithful game.
Back then I could never find a copy of Maximum Carnage. I did manage to find Separation Anxiety at a pawn shop for $10 so I picked it up and me and my brother played the hell out of it.
Best old school spiderman game was for Sega CD. Spider vs kingpin. Game was awesome.
Separation Anxiety has terrible controls. Maximum Carnage is much more smoother.
If your still having trouble beating maximum carnage try it on the Sega flashback. 10 save slots you can use anywhere in the game and the rewind function.
Spidey has a special move where he shoots webs at two baddies on either side and then whips them together in the air. Venom has the same move too.
Greatest LJN game ever, and yes, I love Cyclops.
I laughed way too hard at the Mysterio sprite getting his ass kicked in Lethal Foes. He’s just standing there while Spidey beats the crap out of him.
James Rolfe considers Maximum Carnage to be rare gem of LJN games.
Maximum Carnage also feature a great black sabbath song as the boss theme, Mob Rules which was a title track.
Maximum Carnage's theme song has been stuck in my head since I was like 12. A real banger, as the kids say... probably.
The '90s animated Spiderman needing cartridges for his web was such a contrivance to get him into jeopardy whenever he runs out of fluid. It's an aspect that doesn't translate well to video game.
Maximum Carnage also samples the theme from Enter the Dragon.
What’s weird about Maximum Carnage is it’s an awesome game that was made by LJN.
Damn spiderman xmen is a classic ...
2:09 I remember! Love you bro :D
Awesome take on these games!
I used to call Maximum Carnage Maximum Cleavage when I was a kid. I was so fricking funny.
This game is rated H.
Maximum Carnage is pretty cool even for someone who is only mildly interested in the comic series. I noticed the average price went up after infinity war came out
Maximum Carnage one of the best SNES games. I downloaded it for my FunKey S to re live my childhood.
It wasn't a bad game for 2 players, but definitely a step down from maximum carnage for single player.
Hey loving your channel man!
0:41 Every Tim and Geoff Follin soundtrack
you should have seen the tick game, that was epic
