- Why spend a small fortune when you can make a helmet of your own! I go over four reasons why it is better to make a helmet rather than buying one.
Reason 1: 00:48
Reason 2: 02:31
Reason 3: 06:17
Reason 4: 08:33
#starwars #3dprinting
I came across your Instagram a few months ago and it inspired me to buy a printer. Since then I finished my first helmet and am currently in the post processing phase of my second helmet. Awesome video!
Awesome! Stoked to hear that! And thank you!
can i ask what printer you went with?
My first helmet was samoilovart and was gorgeous. I love that it didn't have the glossy finish
That’s where my first one came from too. They’re painting and weathering is unmatched imo
I can usually even make a helmet for even cheaper. I don’t use the Hobart Face Shields, I just sharpie some plastic from different boxes and stuff. It usually ends up being maybe $15-$20, since I have most of the materials at home already and I just need to buy the filament.
Your instagram and TH-cam videos gave me to the idea to make some of my own custom helmets, a buddy and I wore them around campus last Halloween and since then I’ve had at least a dozen people ask me how much I would charge to make them a custom helmet. I’m interested in trying to sell my work, just not sure how to go about it rn lol. But until then I told all of them to go check out your helmets!
I got a 3d printer and been using it for parts to make cool stuff like lightsabers but I just never got into this until now
Very very inspiring dude!! 👍 Never thought about it that way and have always had a slight inspiration of making my own helmets but never thought much about it. Think you just bumped that up a good 2 notches. Might just have to start looking at printers, thanks for the video
For me pricing out my helmets I found it to cost around £9 per helmet in filament, £10 in paint and I vacuum form my own visors since I do halo helmets and that is all together about £35-£40
I love making my own, for me it's the excitement of doing it myself for me
Thanks for making this video. I am printing my first clone trooper helmet and I am in the middle of trying several models. Unfortunately, getting the scale correct on this type of helmet seems to be a challenge for me and I am sort of just guessing and wasting filament as I go until I find the right scale for the right model. Once I get it dialed in I will be fine, but it is a little frustrating compared to let’s say a mandalorian helmet which is more of a bucket shape
You should try printing test rings first to know which scale % will fit you best. I upload my stl into Meshmixer and make a slice of only the bottom piece where your head needs to fit through. Make a ring for like 100%, 110% and 90% and see what would fit best. Saves you alot of filament and is a quick test. Maybe you're already doing this but hope it helps :)
I usually do print test rings but the models I’m using are in pieces that make it difficult to cut to a single full ring to assemble and test fit
@@BVM-12I finished printing enough of the parts of my model to try it on and it’s a perfect fit so far at 110%. I need to print the dome to be sure but I think it’s a win!
Cool Video, That Kind of Art inspires me complelely. Where do you get your 3d modles from?
If you made a video on how to make these, that would be awesome. Multiple of my buddies are interested as well, and we all have 3d printers but no skill.
These are good reasons, particularly the scaling factor. That's the big one for why I would NEVER buy a pre-made helmet, whether it's 3D printed, or cast, or foam, or whatever.
TBH, a good middle ground that I've found and stuck, that works for me, with is scaling files to yourself (with Armorsmith or anything else), and then just having a print shop print, and optionally prime/smooth, the helmet for you. Is it pricier? Yes, but it saves you a lot of time and maintenance and what have you, which makes it particularly appealing to me. Despite owning a 3D printer, I've routinely commissioned a fellow on Etsy to print and prime props and armor pieces for me, just purely for convenience.
I feel the same way about my hobby, it is so fun to say “I did that”
That's cool 3d printer what 3d printer do you use ?
Really cool video, I think it provides good reason on why 3d Printing is better, quick question as well. What do you use for smoothing out the surface after 3d printing, and how do you get the paint to stay? I'm trying to eventually get a 3D printer, but not sure how it works. One of my friends does though, and reccomended something. What do you use for getting the paint to stick though?
Check out my other videos! Clear coat will help protect the paint!
@@3del_printing Alright, thanks!
@@TDF-34212 and dont forget to prime your surface befor painting
@@hultihd6546 Thanks!
Hi, thanks to ur videos, I am about to buy my first printer, I just wanted to know where you get the 3d files for the helmets
What 3D printer do you use and do you have any advice on printing helmets and armour pieces?
Cool helmets
Have you ever made a Clone wars style phase one trooper helmet? Also if someone cant really make 3d models , is there any good site with a accurate phase 1 animated helmet?
Can you link some of the equipment you use to make the helmets?
Hey there I was wondering if you know what filament is the best for Star Wars helmets/cosplay. I am just about to order a 3D printer right now but I had to figure out which would be the best so I don't buy a junk filament to go with my printer.
What 3d printer do you use? Or does it not matter what kind you get?
Just a question, what 3d printer do you use?
Tbh at a highschool open house I saw this darth vader and rex helmet
Where'd you get the file for the arf trooper?
Can you do a mando helmet?
I feel like this would lowkey be cool for a paintball helmet lol
cool
Thank you!
Are any of these 3D designs on thingyverse?, if not do you design them? If not again where do you get them
Any alternative filler you would recommend? i realized my country does not sell Bondo Spot putty.
Star Wars cool 😎
My older brother has a 3D printer with a large enough print area to print a whole helmet in one go. I might buy filament so that he can print a helmet for me.
watching this while my mandalorian is getting printed : )
Which 3D printer are you using?
what printer do you use?
i have a question. can you see through the visors?
They can be made for $40-$50.
They sell for $300-$400.
Interesting…
Well there are those horrifically deformed ones you can get for like $80-$100 😂
What printer do u use
can you pls tell me which 3d printer do you use
Do you just print the helmet all white and paint over it?
My first helmet was too small 😢
I had to get my friends baby brother to model it 😂
Can I make this and use it for making air soft helmets
How much filament would you say you use on average? Already have a printer for another hobby but didn't want to start printing without having enough filament
Each helmet uses 600-800g
It's a neat hobby. But instead of all this cost focus, I think you should go the other direction. Add some sound systems, lights, or even actual combat or safety features. Even just popping an mp3 player in one would be excellent!
what printer do you use
Nice, but how to you make a helmet?
I own a 3d-Printer, I want to make some helmets, but I don't have the space for storing, let alone displaying even one....
I have only been successful in making two helmets a arf trooper helmet and and a airborne trooper helmet but my arc trooper helmet was a complete flop
Hey i was wondering what printer you use
Creality Cr-10s
The question is not why but how
Could you make a full tutorial?
Check out my other videos! I did a full tutorial on two Rex helmets!
@@3del_printing awesome!!
Hey quick question, where do you get your files?
Galactic Armory! Use 3DELPRINT for 10% off
what the printer model
ive got a resin printer the elagoo saturn 3 could i do these helmets on it or not
Yep! If the printer is smaller you can print in pieces. To print in one piece you’ll need 300x300x400 print volume.
Pilot Warthog!
could you share where you got the files? did you make the CAD?
also these are so cool
Galactic Armory! Use 3DELPRINT for a discount!
THANK YOU @@3del_printing
This is basically the Star Wars version of fur suit making 😂
Maybe green
Ian should be a president. Correction. THE presedent
I bought a 3d printer but I could never get it to work and Im still paying it off. 💀
Hey I just wanted to say as someone that does this too and has an instagram page for it, it’s totally worth it!!!!! I love what I do and I think you will to if you give it a chance!
could you give us free templates or stl files please and thank you
I get my templates from Galactic Armory! Use 3DELPRINT for 10% off
I wish I could afford a printer.
