R-24R and R-24T are both great missiles that allow the MiG-23ML/MLA to mix things up and prevent Air RB's repetitiveness from getting too stale, unlike many other jets that only have one viable loadout. Great replayability.
imo MiG-23ML/MLA should really be at 11.7 BR due to how much they seal club on 10.3 jets. My KDR on the MLA went up after Apex Predators, which I didn't expect to happen. R-60MK lets the MiG-23MLA do to every jet what R-60 could do to the F-14A from the front prior to Apex Predators.

Ever since they were buffed during the Drone Age update, SARH missiles at top tier are mostly undodgeable unless screwing with the radar lock. This means their two most important attributes are now acceleration and range. R-24R out-accelerates every NATO SARH missile currently in War Thunder and it's a very underrated missile.
R-27ER both out-accelerates and outranges every air-to-air missile in War Thunder except for AIM-54 Phoenix and this is why people will say R-27ER is the best SARH missile in-game.
A third important attribute that many players might not know about is that some missiles are easier to notch than others regardless of the jet's tracking radar. SARH missiles have their own radar receivers that can be notched independently of the jet that launched it!
@@eesangWT can you maybe explain, or mention the missiles that are the most resilient and the weakest towards notching? I cant find anything useful about this

Love your content your underrated from TH-cams standards. I remember learning this myself for wing sweep just got the f16 myself no flares is fun lmao and yeah those r24s are nice locks faster than the aim 7f but if your in a 2k km of farther engagement that’s head on that 7f will win. It’s better to launch at 1.50

Fantastic video, many thanks to you. I just managed to grind my way to rank 7 Germany and it's my first time in proper top tier territory, aswell as the first somewhat BVR experience. Previously I mostly flew the German rank 6 Mig21s and was familiar with R-60s and the primitive R-3R SARH missiles. However the much more complex radar and the unknown new enemy's I faced made my start in top tier a bit unsatisfactory. Now with your guide I know what other planes I could encounter and what to expect of them, what path makes sense to take after takeoff and how capable this plane really is if used correctly.
Thanks a lot once again, I wish you a much larger audience in the future because this content really helped me out for once.

If I may add something, the r24T will more ofthen than not defeat flares from targets running away from you, if lead upward as much as possible, provided it locked on the plane at launch.

The ML is an absolute beast when not having to deal with SARH / Phoneix missiles.
I really struggle with dodging AIM-7s and said Phoneixes, I can pull whatever manuver I like at any altitude but I still get smacked. Just feels like there's nothing I can really do to hide from them other than to just cut my speed and hope the teammates in front of me eat one for me.
Even went below treetop level while notching and popping CM and I still got hit by an aim-7 from a tomcat lol
There are some situations where it's literally impossible to avoid, such as going Mach +1.0 and finding a missile in front of you under 3km: th-cam.com/video/rtaOCIxWTcw/w-d-xo.html
It's safer to react to the RWR than to react to the missile indicator, especially when SARH missiles like R-27ER/AIM-7E-2 finish burning quickly and go invisible well before half their max range.

I can’t get a single kill and I know how to top tier like flare, use air brakes to turn faster, and stay at low altitudes. But, I’m always the first to die in a game in the mig 23ml.
Which keybind do you select for Track MIT for R24 T / R? and is it better to use that than SRC lock?
I also see that you use multiple radar modes. What radar mode do you use at the start of the of match and at what altuide do you fly / side climb, missile selection
I have a question. When i hit my radar lock button (to lock smb up) My radar search square doesnt pop up. Why (it works with the ir mode)
Went from a 0.2 K/D to a 2.1 K/D after watching this video. Just using IR missiles and staying above unaware enemies is THE tactic
How much do you think that guide applies to 23MF? I did grind if from an event a while back and have been thinking of putting talisman on it to grind for german 29 next patch. Main issue I have is dying to missiles too much - I think since it only has 12 CM I try to be somewhat stingy and not use more than 3 flares per missile (works for R60, but 9L from rear is oftentimes a problem). Since you cannot really take chaff then I don't climb above 1km, and try to go from the side (often with mixed results). Also I think R23s are really underwhelming compared to R24s, so maybe it's just 6x R60M and call it a day. I'd say I'm somewhat experienced at air rb, also with top tier including over 1k games on M3C, 500 with M2K and some with british phantoms (mainly when they were good back in the day).
Not much, R-23R isn't really worth using but I'd still use R-23T over the R-60MK. R-23T and R-24T are best when firing down from above so if you feel like you're not safe climbing without chaff you're kind of stuck trying to get side-aspect kills without being noticed.
MF has weaker engines and 12 countermeasures are not enough to keep you alive in furballs at top tier. I sold my copy of the MiG-23MF but I'd guess it does great in downtiers and feels very weak when uptiered.

A lot of 10.3 players aren't familiar with notching SARH missiles so many jets like F-5C are free kills with R-24R.
Great viceo, Man! Only small criticism is, the lack of uniformity in text-instructional is a bit jarring when paired with corresponding edited background footage. Still! Thumbs-up from me; I'm looking forward to trying the MLA out! I ground past it to get to the MiG-29 and am a bit daunted by the 12.0 scene, so... Dropping back to get warmed up, so to speak!

I think I'm aight, there are just too many players at top tier that don't pay any attention to spacing so they'll fly straight into unwinnable situations without hesitation. Spacing as in like map positioning (aka macro in MOBAs).
Yeah, the spotting mechanic range feels like ass sometimes but that's part of the challenge, like keeping general track of where players are on the map in Among Us despite not being able to see them. Search radar is a helpful tool, just like the Among Us admin table.
Im a ground rb player and bought the mig23ml atnd just realised how challenging it is to play air rb lmao
Same for me plus there has been changes to those missile so most of the videos telling us how to play are not relevant anymore.... R24T have been nerfed and we face lots of gen 4 fighters that have tons of chaff/flares...
It is too complicated to me… I can’t use these rockets. The R60M never hits for me. I see different type of radars here. I have not a single one switched on.
Do you still recommend the ML today? Just Finished my US grind to the F16 and looking to get a good Russia Grinder.
Yeah, I think the ML/MLA is still one of the best 11.3 jets in Sky Guardians with only Mirage 2000 and MLD being better, but not by much. ML can do fine as long as you don't fly towards the front of the enemy team.

I just got ML, i get about 2-3 kills per match but for some reason there are times my wings just get thanos snapped, even tho no one sended a missile to me/hitted me
Turn on IAS in the setting, so you can track your in air speed at the top left. If you are going 1440kmh+ your wings snap off

Both R-24 are really good, worth trying out. R-24R = Dueling, R-24T = Ganking.
@@eesangWT the biggest problem I'm having with the R-24R is actually getting the radar lock to begin with. ACM doesn't seem to lock anything further than 5km away from me, and it's honestly a hassle using the standard radar search and lock
edit: if you have the time/motivation I'm sure a lot of players would appreciate a radar usage guide in a similar format to this video. I could never really stay for the long form content like the Tim's variety guides
The Sky Guardian update changed the MiG-23ML/MLA radar and they can't use MTI ACM when they're high enough alt for the search radar to be in "Look Down" mode. It's actually incredibly frustrating and you're going to want to stay within 2km of the ground when using R-24R now. If you're low enough alt to use MTI ACM then you shouldn't really have problems getting locks within 10km on targets flying hot.
Having a short radar range doesn't feel like much of a problem because I don't like sending R-24R at targets that are further than 9km away anyways as they'll have plenty of time to notice & notch. Any further and the R-24R will have lost its speed advantage to AIM-7F/M as well so jousting becomes risky.
@@eesangWT ah, I thought it felt worse this update. I'll keep that advice in mind and work on staying low with the 24R.
And J7E J8B J7D all have no good all aspect or radar guide missiles at 11.0.sad.Gaijin really should add PL8 to them
Not watched the whole thing yet as I don't own these planes, but with the new USA premium in Sky Guardians it might be worth doing a gameplay guide for the three premium Phantoms (US/UK/Japan).
They all have different missiles and radars so its not really possible to do one guide for all three.

Only thing you will really need to learn is radar use r-24 r/ t for long range and r-60mks at 2km or less top tier is hard but you will learn and adapt to it pretty fast
