Light over my antique kitchen table is an old kerosene 4 lamp that was converted to electric many years ago. My dad found it in an old barn along with the table.
My house was built around 1959. It has the original wood Anderson awning windows. I just love them. I can have them open when it is raining and no rain comes in. One of the first things a friend said when they saw my house was "You're going to replace these old windows aren't you?" Of course I said "Why would I do that? They're wood and there's nothing wrong with them."
I love the hallway entrance light and how you stay close to the age of the house. I am enjoying this new adventure and intrigued with how the finished results will be! Ashley and you simply amaze me. As always, thank you sharing your lives with us!
Love your videos! At 82 and 74, my husband and I are learning so much from you on home improvements and renovations. We're hoping to retire and retire so we can become more independent. You all look so happy in your new location. God bless!
I used that Rockwood in the basement between the sill plate and the floor, I found it easy to work with. I like that it's fire proof and mold resistant, and doesn't itch like fiberglass, good choice👍👍p.s. it's also pest resistant.
There's so much I love about this video. I love the light fixture, the info on the insulation, the music (that y'all haven't put in your videos for awhile), the update on the beautiful yard, but especially how y'all plan to not use any sheetrock. We will be soon in the process of putting up walls in our polebarn/house and we don't want to use any sheetrock, either. Looking forward to the ideas y'all come up with. I know whatever y'all do, it's going to be fantastic.
You are correct; wood windows will last longer than plastic vinyl. My son lives in a 1917 foursquare and it still has the original windows. My house was built in 1990 and the vinyl windows are turning brittle and breaking off. The seals are gone in them. For your wood walls... great idea. My grandmother's house (1930-1980s) was a mining camp house that my grandpa disassembled and rebuilt on their land. It was all tongue and groove boards on the inside. i remodeled my bathroom, a lumber supplier found a sawmill to cut me tongue and groove boards to closely resemble a picture I had of my grandmother's living room. My daughter lives in Florida. She loves it there; many different places to kayak and see nature (gators, manatee). Fall is manatee season to come in to the springs. You have to go watch the manatee. They are the most beautiful animals to watch... so peaceful. We kayaked with them in Silver Springs. The year before, we went to Homosassa Springs wildlife park to watch them come in.
I don't know exactly where you're located but if you're anywhere near Gainesville Florida they have a place there on 23rd I think it's Avenue might be street Gainesville strange they have a place called Repurpose project. They have all kinds of doors they have windows bathroom stuff all kinds of stuff have a place that's been torn down you've been torn down and the stuff is still good and you could buy it for a good I mean fantastic price so you might want to check there before you get too far into what you're doing at your house
@@joansheppard6576 exactly where I went today and purchased all new hinges and door handles that were brand new Roth & Allen brand for all 25 kitchen cabinet doors and 9 matching drawer pulls for 50¢ a package.
@Tony McSteven In the first place, you can't DM on TH-cam. That function went away years ago! And in the second, called them out how?? She just suggested a store where you can get second hand building materials and furniture, for a bargain price. Did you not properly decipher what she was saying?? 🙄
You guys have taught me alot. Love the fact Ashley gives us natural wisdom! You have encouraged me and my 10 year old to watch a bug grow to see what it turns into! Love you guys.
Awesome work....love the new light...very unique and I have to agree about wood windows....we grew up with all wooden windows and the glass was wavy...lol and they all had window weights...they lasted 60 yrs and that's just the yrs my parents owned the house....no soft spots....leaks or trouble!
The Lamp Fixture.. is outstanding! .. It's unique, brass (which is understated) and fits perfectly with the narrow entry hall. Just lovely. Looking forward to seeing it lit, with the glass shades in place.
Fantastic job !!! Winter is also a very good time to mark your land for land fill or free dirt dumping from construction sites that might be near by.... This would be the perfect time to be looking for free dirt ..... This could allow you to landscape your yard this spring . Mark off where the pond edge is and fill back to that point. Might only take a foot and a half of dirt from the 🏠 back to your marked off yard .... Next summer you wont flood....
I love the choice of the light fixture in the entry way. I was surprised at the same time. You are keeping to the age of the house when making your plans. Excited to see the end result of this renovation as it is going to be different from the others you have done, yet will have your added touch. You both are very talented individuals! Ashley's smile just keeps getting bigger! It's great to see how you both are more relaxed, less stressed and much more content since you have moved. As always, thank you for sharing your life with us fans.
🎶When the perky music started I almost jumped out of my recliner to dance 🎶I've missed it and the other sound effects. 💃 Love to see you so happy. WELL DONE TEAM 💕
Look for a window and door Surplus Store near you. I found one here in Washington, and was blown away by the prices. I got a new fiberglass clad, 68"x57" 20 light with natural wood grills, double panes, Marvin window for $125. It is probably a $5000 dollar window. I called Marvin to order the plastic drip edge that was partly missing, and they said it has a 25 year warranty! They also had a huge inventory of doors, and will build the natural wood casing I wanted for each, at about 1/3rd of the price of Home Depot or Lowe's. These are all new windows and doors, not used. Most are orders that were not right, and were returned. But the good news is the wood windows are actually cheaper because they are harder to sell. Granted, I was building a new addition and got them before the framing was done, but the doors are pretty standard sizes.
Preparing for winter in the South - Don’t pack up your summer clothes Ever 😂 The End. The property is coming along so well and I got a little nostalgia charge from the “ happy work music “ 🎵
Our 100 plus year old house still has the original wood windows! We love them! They have the rope/weighted window lifts and a few that have the pegs that push in the sides of the window frame to hold them up. Old house charm!
Good to see you wearing your respirator. I wish I had something like that back in the day but back then I would probably have been run out of the county for being a freak 😂. Anyway, great job on the renovation 👍
Loving the joy I see in your lives as you adjust to this wonderful new home you've found for your family! Enjoying and learning as I watch you renovate your home. God bless yous!
Ashley Ashley Ashley you are absolutely beaming. This move has just improved your whole mood as seen on your face looks so relaxed!!! Love the projects, dedication, and your children growing !! so glad you both make these videos!!! learning about all of the surrounding agriculture and inspect, bird and animals you guys encounter... how great for the kids!!!!
Many northerners find that when they move to FL, they're first winter they're still swimming during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe all through the winter season. You may not even need any heat this winter because our blood is thicker when we're from cold climates. After being down here for a year or two blood thins. So Enjoy!! Enjoy the gorgeous weather. In fact I'm in the Plant City area right now myself. 😀
You literally meant WINDOW SHOPPING🤣😂🤣 I thought you spent two days just browsing window shopping like you hadn’t nothing else to do 🥴😂😂 love the light , the pond looks amazing …👏🏻👏🏻 on the progress of the insulation 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
You are going to love winter in Florida, I grew up there (70 years old now !) and we only needed a windbreaker or thin sweater all winter long, that's why the snowbirds ( northerners ) come every winter :D hahaha it's the Sunshine State but it rains just a little everyday ! We had a newspaper that was free if the sun didn't shine at all for one day !
Glad to hear the “Popple” music, I’ve been missing it! I totally agree about insulating your interior walls, noise reduction alone makes it a great idea.
I have been watching and enjoying your older posts. Your talents are amazing. Too bad most in current society don't strive to accomplish more outside a very narrow niche.
Thank you soooo much for talking about the benefits of WOOD. i grew up in a lumber family and my dad and grandfather spoke to everything you said about wood even back in the 60's and 70's when aluminum and vinyl were taking off. Cheers to you
Like several other commenters, I too love the entry light you selected! You're moving right along and it is a completely different vibe than your previous home. Enjoy that weather! Be well and stay safe! 🌻
If I were you I would build the attic door and instal with it covered with insulation so that you can prevent attic heating to overheat your work area. Nice to see your progress.
October was my favorite month in Florida. The weather is amazing. Also you are so right about the wood windows. We have the original 1954 wood windows in the main part of our house and they are in great shape. Where they renovated the garage into a family room at some point they put in vinyl windows and they ALL need to be replaced for various malfunctions.
I live in the Pacific Northwest close to Canada & it was a cool fall this year. Right now it's raining & the high is 55 & low 43. It doesn't get nearly as cold as your last house. But I understand why you are smiling. Love the Entry light fixture.
I personally love everyone of the light fixtures that I've seen so far. You two have good taste . I love your choice for the fixture that you've chosen to hang in the entryway . I think it's going to be awesome! Also I cant Imagine any other windows on your home but for the wood ones that you guys are going to install in place of the old ones. They will so make your home look beautiful. What a great job that your doing Doug . Ashley I've gotta hand it to you , you do great work in all you do as well. So tell me how is Miss Claude Monet coming along with her art work ! I would really like to buy a picture of her painting that would have colorful butterflies on it and at least one beautiful Caterpillar in it. Think she will do one for me? If so contact me. Good job guys!!
When the pond is dried out a little bit more, if that even happens, you could go metal detecting out there for all the gold doubloons that fell out of the pirates pockets when they fell out of their kayaks. I love vintage over modern so this house is going to be very exciting for me. I wish you could keep that higher up octagonal window and make it into a stained glass window. I remember that from my childhood when my parents lived in this great big mansion that was the house of the foreman on an estate in massachusetts. It was a stained glass window at the landing of the winding stairs. I would get up early when the sun was coming up and I just stand on the landing and hold out my nightgown so the colors coming through the window would shine on my white nightgown. Belle could design it. Maybe palm trees, with the sun setting over the ocean with a dragon in the foreground.
I live in central florida. There are some really fun places to explore. Silver Glen springs, Alexander springs, Rainbow river and many ‘rails to trails’ that you can ride bikes along beautiful nature trails. University of Florida also has a Natural History museum that might be something your family would enjoy. Just a thought since you all seem to enjoy being outside.
We used to take our boat to lake George chains. We took a houseboat and pulled our ski boat behind and camped right in Silver Glen. Lots of boats parked there together and everyone partying and having a Great time. Oh gosh that was back in the mid 90's. 👍🌝 Haven't been in years now.
The house my husband and I are building is also not going to have drywall. I love wood. Excited to see this house! You are going to inspire me I know it. Probably going to copy some of your ideas. 🤣
As a Floridian I can tell you, you will love our Fall & Winter (especially since you came from Mich.) You'll also be able to work straight through on the house. Enjoy!
Doug! Nice job you're doing on the house!😊 I was a little taken back (surprised is all) that you're not going to use any drywall! But, the wood look that Ashley wants will be beautiful! Ashley, you're doing such a nice job cleaning up the pond! I know it's such hard work now, but when you get it the way you want it, it'll be beautiful looking too! Thank you, you two for sharing your life with us! You are my favorite channel to watch! And I've always enjoyed everything you both have done!
Love love love the light! Glad you explained why you cutting the insulation that way...I just knew you had a good explanation for it. You all look so much happier since moving to Florida😊. Great video Doug and Ashley. Take care and God bless your beautiful family🤲💐💓
I'm so happy y'all are happy. In this video I could truly see the happiness in your faces at the end. It looks good on you two. Florida is magical...the Sunshine state does a body and mental health good. I could tell you so many joyful memories I had as a kid growing up in south Florida, the middle of nowhere, 20 miles from any town in all directions. Maverick and Belle are blessed beyond measure. This was such a good decision for y'all. Take care. God Bless. ❤️🇺🇸❤️🇺🇸
Love how you explain why you are doing what you are doing. Wood has been around and still standing as long as you take care of it. Keep putting out great videos.
I totally love the chandelier and yes to the wood windows , I'm a pca and had a client that lives in a home built in 1899 and the wood windows are still in great shape.
Love your choice of hallway fixture . As for wood windows you are a hundred percent right , my Dad was a house builder and wood has been the top choice always, so glad you stuck to your guns about that . Nice to see you enjoying the weather as so many are tucking in for winter right now , I live in southern Ontario Canada and we get nicer weather than many places in the US so I cannot complain , but winter is a comin. Enjoy your channel so much and excited always to see what your up to .
I think you're choice of movie clip was spot on for the reason Florida doesn't want inward swinging windows. Just not safe with hurricane winds on a regular basis. Have you researched hurricane straps for your roof and walls. Very important, and I would say code. If not required, they should be.
Great fixture. I have the original electric overhead lights in my home. The house was built in 1886 and my guess is that these are from the ‘20’s or ‘30’s. They have been retired and are used in conjunction with recessed lighting. These small details make a house a home.
Hi Friends, Love love love the entry light!!! I mean it is perfect for your house (and mine!!!). Good find!!! Beats me why, but watching you insulate the walls is mesmerizing for me. It's almost like watching an artist (Bob Ross) at work. You make it look so easy when I know it really isn't. We had to use the old pink, itchy stuff when we built our house long ago - YUCK!!! Looking good!!! Keep up the good work. Take care, stay safe and healthy. Hugs n love!!!
Window hunting for us too, here in michigan, has been retched! 3 months and weve finally hired a crew. They are about 12-15 wks out tho'!😲 I love the hall light choice. I love vintage!😍 We doing another home reno too. Keep up the good work!
Doug you will love Florida winters, 60's and 70'. We do get cold fronts blow in , but they only last a few days. But it also depends on the part of Florida you are in.
Love your videos and LOVE your family. You do amazing work and I'm learning so much for my own home improvement projects. I do hope you keep the that cute little octagon shaped window. It adds amazing character to your home.
I really love your light fixture. It was a really good choice. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with that little window in the top of your master bedroom.
The entry light is PERFECT! You are absolutely right about the insulation and the windows. My Grannys house was built in 1929 and the windows are beautiful wood with the weight inside and they all still work. Love how it's going guys! ♡
Habitat restore would have been great for Windows and light fixtures...handles etc ........Doug please donate what Windows you take out...love love the light...just beautiful
Loving the wood window plans. The house I grew up in has wood windows - the windows are 50+ years old and still look great. Florida suits Ashley well - she looks happier now. Keep up the good work!
You guys must be further North than me , as we have not dropped below 70 at night just yet. Typically Winters in SW Florida can get down to the 40's ( at night) and on two occasions we had Ice in our bird bath (Only twice in 6 years). Lower temps are usually in January and February. I must admit that I look forward to that time of year. That is the time of year where I will try to get outdoor projects done. Enjoying the progress. Later
So pleasing to see you both so very happy, If you had told me 50 years ago how expensive things would become I would have changed my business plans for sure lol. I sure hope you get a chance to take the kids to the places I suggested in my email. The light will be beautiful. As always sending you many prayers and blessings ❤❤ for your beautiful family❣❤❤❤
There are people in Florida that go in and take out excellent doors windows vanities kitchen cabinets lights in multi million dollar homes . People will buy a beautiful mansion and want to modernize it completely. My husband had a friend who redid his condo this way.
That tends to usually be the case with most things … battling costs with wants…. Lol…We make adjustments and try to bring the look & feel of what we want into our home in other ways. The light is really nice. You’re getting into the best weather time in Florida…that’s why all of the Snowbirds from the North migrate there… December is usually the coolest month and even then it rarely gets below freezing at night and warms up during the day. Even then we had barbecues for Thanksgiving & Christmas. I just could never wrap my brain around Santa on surfboards. If you can take and love the Heat, it the best place for you.
The rockwool sound deadening is no joke! Adding it to the interior walls was a good move!
The light is beautiful. You guys are knocking it out of the park

A small solar powered aerator floating in your pond, I believe, will also help passively clear up both the water vegetation and the color.

The forecast for Florida winter is warmer than normal and dry , enjoy your new life in the sunshine state . 😎
Use your old windows to make a greenhouse or some cold frames for your garden. That would look lovely..
I used to be a window specialist at HD and I would absolutely recommend wood windows clad with aluminum
Awesome work....love the new light...very unique and I have to agree about wood windows....we grew up with all wooden windows and the glass was wavy...lol and they all had window weights...they lasted 60 yrs and that's just the yrs my parents owned the house....no soft spots....leaks or trouble!
See if you have any habitat for humanity resell shops by you and look for antique doors to refinish. Would be cool if you can find them
Yay! THERE’S the working music! Habitat for Humanity has great doors and windows for amazing prices.

The ceiling light for the front hallway is AWESOME🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻😊🥰😃🎉🤩❤️🙏🏻
Love the light fixture!😍looking good! I agree wood windows are the best!
Y'all are awesome, light fixture is perfect for that house!
I totally love the chandelier and yes to the wood windows , I'm a pca and had a client that lives in a home built in 1899 and the wood windows are still in great shape.
Love that light in the entrance way, and Ashley you are doing a good job with that pond,
Love your choice of hallway fixture .
I agree this time of year cooler nights and warm days. It's wonderful
I think you're choice of movie clip was spot on for the reason Florida doesn't want inward swinging windows. Just not safe with hurricane winds on a regular basis. Have you researched hurricane straps for your roof and walls. Very important, and I would say code. If not required, they should be.
There were already hurricane straps, but we added more.
@@diyfferent 😁😁👍👍
They are about 12-15 wks out tho'!😲
I love the hall light choice. I love vintage!😍
We doing another home reno too. Keep up the good work!
Doug you will love Florida winters, 60's and 70'. We do get cold fronts blow in , but they only last a few days. But it also depends on the part of Florida you are in.
I knew there was a good reason why you chose that kind of insulation. Thx for sharing that info. Hugs to Y'all Ü
It is way better insulation.
Throwback channel MUSIC!!!! Fantastic! The entryway light is awesome.
I live in the northeast, and we are having a wonderful October, still in short sleeves, too.
My home was built in 1978 and all my windows are wood. I love them and you’re right. The wood last forever. Diann👵🏻
Everything is looking good. The lighting for the hall entrance is outstanding. Hard work and perseverance. Be blessed.
You will love the weather here. In a year or two you will notice a slight change during the seasons.
Loving the wood window plans. The house I grew up in has wood windows - the windows are 50+ years old and still look great. Florida suits Ashley well - she looks happier now. Keep up the good work!
I like the light fixture. Good job.
The light is going to look beautiful! In my case the wooden window last long!
The pond looks amazing Ashley. I absolutely love the hallway light, its perfect. Great progress!
