You both are so brave. Every time I watch Doug walk up that ladder carrying planks, windows etc I break out in a sweat. Then when both of you were up there 😱
I remember the days when Doug's ladder stepping was a tad more tentative and he admitted ladders were not his favorite. His expertise and confidence has certainly grown. He moves with precision.
I'd seriously like to know where, you, Doug, learned all your carpentry skills. You seem to know what you are doing ALL the time and you make things seem so uncomplicated, I salute you on your ability to do most all of the work by yourself! You're home is coming along splendidly. I'm a native Floridian, and want to say, I hope y'all love it here and are always very cautious around, ponds, canals, lakes etc, because we do have gators in almost every body of water here, and the gators can be right in front of you and you would never know it. They will also jump out of the water unexpectedly and take your pet also... don't mean to frighten you off, just giving you a warning that I think all newcomers to Florida should receive! Hope you and your family have the best Christmas 🎄 ever! Just think Doug, how wonderful it will be to not have to shovel any snow this winter! Yes!! Lol lol 😆
Shame about the window. I hope you get a good response from the company. I remember the hassle you had in your last home with the totally useless kitchen cabinets saga. I think it's great how you interact gently with the wildlife round your home, it's very educational for the kids too 🥰
I think it’s very interesting when you share the different kinds of wildlife. You’re very gentle & kind…you observe & use it as an educational tool for the kids! Then you release the animal in a safer place, so they’re more protected. How could anyone possibly think this wrong???? Btw, love the windows…hope you do the whole house in the same way or at least with the black frames. Like Ashley said, “They’re cool.”
Ashley your so gentle and anyone can see so are your children hard to believe anyone would complain about you touching any animal reptiles foul etc😂 I love your windows hopefully the company will stand behind there stuff Wishing you a merry Christmas 🎄
Ashley, you look so cute with your hair up. I enjoy your family interacting with the wildlife. It is a teaching moment for your kids. Please do not listen to those who believe you are "harassing" the wildlife.
Our new kitchen units had 9 defective doors or panels, and was from an allegedly good company, so I feel your pain! Going to look lovely when it’s all done. 👍
I always did that with my kids...we always treated everything with respect and put it back where we found it unless it was in a dangerous situation....so I don't mind seeing your children enjoy wildlife because you taught your children to have respect for wildlife so no worries here !
You all have shown that you are very curious and very gentle when sharing the wild life with us that you have found around your house. No worries ! And the windows are beautiful, hopefully they will get you the replacement soon.
It is so obvious that you guys know about animals. I find it annoying that people freak out about animals being handled. Personally I don’t like reptiles, amphibians, bugs etc. but if you don’t mind them then I see nothing wrong with you guys enjoying animals.
That’s to bad about the window. They could replace it. That is so good you have the kids now good snakes from bad ones. They wasn’t hurting it at all. Thanks for sharing
You two scared me senseless being at the top of the ladder together! But then again I also thought how adorable you were snuggling at the top of the ladder! I love that the kids are learning about nature!
Ah Florida with the lizards and snakes, and love to see Belle and Maverick learning to respect and observe wildlife. Love the brass and black on the windows, hopefully you can get the window problem resolved. Ashley I emphasize with when you were up on the ladder holding it for Doug, been there done that. And as always still praying for you and your family for safety and progress.
Your children are adorable. Belle is so thoughtful and kind, and sweet Maverick wanting to keep the little snake as a pet. Maybe in future that little boy will have a dog.
No worries 👍 on the snake. I feel its absolutely awesome you take the time to teach your children and yourself about the world around you guys. Top notch parenting. Again 👍
Such a cute snake ... we had one in our pool and I was able to rescue him. At first I thought it was a worm, but I was pleasantly surprised to see he was a tiny snake. I'm in awe of your large lizards. The ones around our house are much smaller ... and much faster. The only one I've been able to pick up was a blue-tailed skink--which was much slower moving. Thanks for sharing your wildlife encounters ... I always appreciate seeing them. Too bad about your windows ... probably another supply chain issue. Those low profile window cranks are great for if you have window blinds ... the larger cranks always hit the window blinds and make the blinds sit crooked when they are all the way down.
Your doing a great job on your house, it is a shame about the window and not getting all of it's fittings and fixtures. Have a wonderful Christmas with love and blessings from Scotland xx
Good Morning Doug & Ashley,I am sure your window manufacturer will make it right. It is wonderful how the kids enjoy nature.Have a wonderful week ahead.👏😊👍
The Florida ringneck snake, a native exclusively to Florida, is one of the smallest and most docile snakes in North America. Measuring only 6-10 inches long, the ringneck snake is a non-venomous species that got its name from the tell-tale yellow ring around its neck. I am scared of snakes but think it is good that you teach your children about wildlife and to respect it and teaching them the difference of non venomous and venomous snakes, spiders ect...
OMgosh don't you hate it when you buy something new and a big purchase and there is something wrong or missing from it, it shouldn't be that way! Sorry you have to go through that. Ashley you are brave to climb that ladder, too high for me! Great Job Guys! Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
I love the windows! In another life, many, many years ago, I worked in a plastics extrusion factory, a brazing factory, auto parts factory, etc. Quality control doesn't inspect every single item. QC will inspect a batch out of a larger quantity of the finished product. The mechanical parts of the window probably come from another factory and QC works pretty much the same way everywhere. When I did production, I personally would observe the parts as they came out of the machining or extrusion machine for flaws because the parts can become flawed slowly and many somewhat impaired parts can be made before the QC would notice it. If production type factories would make it a point to train the machine operators in quality control and each part were inspected systematically (one in every five instead of one in every 500, or a batch of completed product out of each shift), it would minimally slow production, but significantly reduce the number of flawed final product. That was my observation 35 years ago, but numbers over quality was/is the game. I went to college and became a master's level social worker. Lol! Like you, I deal with the faulty products of still faulty quality control concepts.
I hope Jeldwen stands behind their product. Too many things wrong with it. They should send you a replacement. Cute little snake. Seems the kids have researched the species. Yeh, it did seem a bit stressed, but glad you put itback in a safe place. Good luck with the window co.
I like the style of windows you chose because they are easy to clean. And besides the issues With this one window, they are handsome. Keep up the good work!
First off in regards to the snake, I think you saved it since you found it right by the road. Plus like you said you are immersing yourself and your children in nature. Second in regards to the windows, I think the way you installed them is the right way. Like you said, the way they are suggested to install them it blocks the air flow. Your way makes perfect sense! Sorry you have a broken window.
Folks need to loosen up! Snakes and critters are all a part of living in the country, and it's a wonderful experience for the kids. That's a bummer about the windows. We had the same thing happen years ago when we installed windows, and my husband chose to just keep the defective window. Hope you can get it straightened out.
Don't make the mistake we did. We ordered double hung windows for finishing the upstairs of our cape style home. They were 36" high, which we thought were to code. Come to find out the opening had to be 18". Ours opened 16-1/2. We managed to do some change to the window itself to get it to work and pass inspection, but what a pain it was!
Yes your kids need to see thing and look and learn that's how they learn. I think that's why some people are so scared of snakes bc they don't know about them when they r young. Never apologize for teaching YOUR children you guys are doing a great job teaching them. Great job mom and dad and sister.
I think it's wonderful that your family loves wildlife. Observing and appreciating animals in a crucial part of scientific understanding which will help all wildlife over time. Discover away, Belle and Maverick!
Hope everything works out with replacing the defective window. They should have told you about the parts that were on back order. Since you've had the windows "for a while now," then it seems that the back ordered parts should have come in already. I still love the windows. But, your experience here is a cautionary tale for consumers to open up boxes and check contents as soon as you get them home. That way, we can immediately follow up. Good luck to you. Merry Christmas!
I have always enjoyed how your children are explorers and have such respect for any creatures they find on any of your properties. Each encounter is a wonderful learning experience for them. Well done Mom and Dad!
Great job so far! I work for a Jeldwen Window Manufacturing company in Australia. You should have no problems at all getting the defective window sorted. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎄
You are doing a great job raising the kids as well as working on the house. You kids will be fine, responsible and talented adults. Good job Doug and Ashley.
I love that your yard is a place of learning and exploration. Your children are smart and curious. Hopefully the window situation will be resolved quicker than the cabinet situation on your last renovation. ❤
i have used Pella and they have the same guy that services my area, even though he doesn't live here. the company has been great with my seemingly petty issues, but hey...it's under warranty. i think he's been out 4 times in 10 years :D. love that you are part of this type of crew service
The windows are so pretty...never that I could say that about windows, but they are beautiful. Your kids are even more beautiful....and sweet......love yall...hugs
Ashley, your hair looks so cute up in a bun! Love it. You are cute!!! You and Doug are doing an awesome, excellent job of renovating. I'm proud of you guys.😄🤗
I am not a fan of crank out windows because of the time it takes to open and close. I would not use them where you walk by them, like on your porch. Makes it hard to set up chairs and move about.
This certainly is a big project for you to take on! Going along well. I am sure that you have learned something from every remodel you have done! This one will keep you busy for a while! I am glad you are instructing your children on being careful in handling the wildlife around your new place! Being in new territory some of it could be dangerous. The idea of going to the local library and seeing if they have books or anything to get information from was a good one! Stay safe!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family and hopes and prayers for a happy and peaceful and prosperous New Year ahead!! 🌲🌲🌲❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
You're researching before handling wildlife in your natural surroundings and teaching your children. Great learning experience and example of respect of the wildlife for Belle and Maverick. Awesome job parenting!
The windows look great. It's a bummer you have to go through the hassle of dealing with the manufacturer to get that broken one replaced, but surely it'll all work out. Best of luck to y'all.
Too bad you have such a problem with the window. Something slipped by quality control it would appear. Hopefully the company will stand behind it. Obviously you have a “method to your madness” in the way you are working- good for you - you really don’t have to justify or explain to us. As always what you do looks just great
I read something about the poison cane toad are being found in parts of Florida.. I’m sure you’re probably already aware of it, but , in case you hadn’t heard, you might check it out.. I hope the window company will work with you.. the windows are really attractive and go well with your home ..
The window swing will catch the breeze no matter which direction it is blowing- great idea. If any remodelers know about defects and returns you guys do! Hope customer service treats you right. Enjoy the wild life, ignore negative nellies.
I just love the nature around your home. I taught my kids the dangerous things and things to touch and not to touch. my family was taught to respect nature and to interact with it. You are doing the right kind of teaching.
If we don't look at and experience nature, we don't learn how to live with it. Lack of knowledge creates fear. Fear causes damage. You didn't hurt that presious little bit of life and the kids learned how to respect it. No problem from me.
The way you hung the windows is exactly how I would've done it, it makes SO much more sense! I'm gutted about the defective window, I hope they replace it no problem 🙏
Oh, what a shame about the window, hope they send a replacement soon. Everything has been backed up for all the home builders I have watched, but luckily you can work around the delays. I like the windows and your direction of them, as you can catch a breeze both ways.
I enjoy you and your children experiencing your local nature. Without these types of adventures how else can you learn about the wonderful world we live on. Keep learning and sharing please.
Ashley has come a long way being up on that ladder and using the drill at the same time! It's a good thing you're both so slender to be able to pass each other on the ladder! I don't think I would have the courage to do that! I hope the company is willing to replace the window but I think I remember being told years ago that if it's not professionally installed, the warranty is void. Sure hope that isn't the case. 🤔💕
I am sure Jeld Win will treat you right. Not sure if you aquired them from HD or elsewhere but we've had no issue with anything from them on any questions and were told to call them if we had issues. I love the windows and so sorry that one is defective. When I saw the title I thought one broke the glass while installing. Whew, I am glad that was not the case. Everything looks fabulous and I am so so glad everything is going well.........(less the one window glitch) Wishing you a beautiful Christmas Season and Happy New Year!
I love starting out my week with a video from you guys. That's a shame about the one window, but Jeldwen is a good name, and I'm sure they'll make it right for you. Can't wait to see the next "phase"!
I thought you had left your disappearing mojo in Michigan, but I see it was just packed away!! Good on you! The house will be awesome when you are finished.
That sure is disheartening to have worked so hard to install all those windows only to find multiple parts are missing AND one of the windows is defective! Goodness sakes :/ On tge brighter side, that was a cute little snake :) You always try to have something positive to show or say to keep your perspective, I really appreciate that :) Have a very Merry Christmas !!
You both are so brave. Every time I watch Doug walk up that ladder carrying planks, windows etc I break out in a sweat. Then when both of you were up there 😱

The windows look good...I like that your kids are closer to nature than most kids these days...
Yes the snake will be fine, people can find issues with everything. I always see your respect for wildlife in your videos

So sorry to hear about the defective window, i hope it gets replaced quickly and easily, 😊👍💕💕💕
I love that your children are learning about nature. What a wonderful opportunity.
I never would have thought about how the way the windows opened up would make such an impact! Your forethought is admirable!

Love the windows, they are really sharp looking! Belle, isn't it fun to find all these new little critters? I'll bet you are learning a lot.

Great eye spotting that tiny snake Belle. Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Sorry about the window- but they look awesome! Hope Jeldwin makes it right and sends a replacement for you. 😊

I hate that one of the windows were faulty but they look really nice.
You are doing a great job raising the kids as well as working on the house. You kids will be fine, responsible and talented adults. Good job Doug and Ashley.
I enjoy when you show wild life and plants. I also love those subjects.
I like the style of your doors and windows, it's beautiful, and chic!
please dont apologize for your interaction with Gods creatures, He gave them to us to interact with
Awesome job with the windows.
Have a very Merry Christmas. Be blessed.
I love that your yard is a place of learning and exploration. Your children are smart and curious. Hopefully the window situation will be resolved quicker than the cabinet situation on your last renovation. ❤
I work for a company that makes windows, they should have a service crew that will come to you and fix the window. That is what our company does.

That’s a bummer about the broken window. I’m sure it will all work out and you will get a replacement. I’m really liking the black windows
Like the windows regardless. Th as ts a bummer about the broken one, murpheys law. The place is coming together. Good job.
Have a great Christmas
I think you are very concerned about wildlife, and I love that about your family❤️
The windows are so pretty...never that I could say that about windows, but they are beautiful. Your kids are even more beautiful....and sweet......love yall...hugs
Ashly you are a brave woman. I would never climb a ladder so high.
There’s always going to be bumps in the road! Windows are beautiful and you guys are doing great. I love seeing the progress!
Ashley, your hair looks so cute up in a bun! Love it. You are cute!!! You and Doug are doing an awesome, excellent job of renovating. I'm proud of you guys.😄🤗
Ashley does look really cute with her hair up.

I enjoy watching you and your new nature buddies. Florida has a lot of variety. And in your backyard! So excited to see what you discover next!
You're researching before handling wildlife in your natural surroundings and teaching your children. Great learning experience and example of respect of the wildlife for Belle and Maverick. Awesome job parenting!
I agree!
The windows look great. It's a bummer you have to go through the hassle of dealing with the manufacturer to get that broken one replaced, but surely it'll all work out. Best of luck to y'all.
Cute baby snake!! Sorryabout the window!!!
Looking good. You won't be having those windows open in the summertime !!! Steamy hot!
I thought Doug was getting frisky with Ashley there for a moment. Haha. Love the new window.
Too bad you have such a problem with the window. Something slipped by quality control it would appear. Hopefully the company will stand behind it. Obviously you have a “method to your madness” in the way you are working- good for you - you really don’t have to justify or explain to us. As always what you do looks just great
Harrassment? You guys are so gentle with animals. Block the trolls.
I read something about the poison cane toad are being found in parts of Florida.. I’m sure you’re probably already aware of it, but , in case you hadn’t heard, you might check it out..
I hope the window company will work with you.. the windows are really attractive and go well with your home ..
Thanks for sharing! Great progress guys ❤️
Getting it off the road was a good thing. Also, putting it on the tree will help with keeping insects of the tree and fruit.
The window swing will catch the breeze no matter which direction it is blowing- great idea. If any remodelers know about defects and returns you guys do! Hope customer service treats you right. Enjoy the wild life, ignore negative nellies.
I agre, you do not need to justefy youer self abort the way you are handeling the wild life, you seam very resposeble
Great windows....love the black.
I just love the nature around your home. I taught my kids the dangerous things and things to touch and not to touch. my family was taught to respect nature and to interact with it. You are doing the right kind of teaching.

Bummer on the one window but you two always manage to stay positive and work through these dilemmas. The windows and hardware are lovely!
Please keep sharing all the wildlife you encounter on this new property. You seem to be making a home in a little piece of heaven on earth.
Windows look great. That one has to go back. I’ve had windows that open like these and I loved them. You get great air flow with them.
Too bad about the window, I hope the accommodate you quickly, it would be nice to see a big company like them do right by you all. God bless you all.
nice find Belle ! thanks for sharing....
Oh, what a shame about the window, hope they send a replacement soon. Everything has been backed up for all the home builders I have watched, but luckily you can work around the delays. I like the windows and your direction of them, as you can catch a breeze both ways.
I love all the windows they look beautiful. I'm sure the manufacturer will make good of the window.
I enjoy you and your children experiencing your local nature. Without these types of adventures how else can you learn about the wonderful world we live on. Keep learning and sharing please.
Merry Christmas to you and all your family. 🤶🎅
Sounds like some folks don't think you have any common sense concerning animals. As an animal activist, I think you're very respectful.
Having the same type of windows all around the house would look really good, but I trust your picks because you guys have great taste.👍
The windows look really good👍🙋♀️🌻🙏
I am sure Jeld Win will treat you right. Not sure if you aquired them from HD or elsewhere but we've had no issue with anything from them on any questions and were told to call them if we had issues.
I love the windows and so sorry that one is defective. When I saw the title I thought one broke the glass while installing. Whew, I am glad that was not the case.
Everything looks fabulous and I am so so glad everything is going well.........(less the one window glitch)
Wishing you a beautiful Christmas Season and Happy New Year!
Be careful with snakes down there. Coral snakes are deadly
