    I’m 100% sure y’all are gonna restore that property better than it ever was. You run into issues, but you think outside any boxes and that’s what makes your channel so interesting! I love natural wood too, but painting it sometimes really makes a space look and feel better. I can’t wait to see what designs you all create there. It’s going to be perfect!

    Not to be critical but please don't let Maverick around the pond without someone bigger, I know you haven't seen any alligators but they can show up unexpected and Maverick is small enough to be considered a food source to them, but Belle would discourage an attack... I love you too much not to mention it. I lived with a swampy pond for years and eventually it was full of alligators and other wildlife ! Love from Shreveport Louisiana 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 when I lived in St Pete FL not Louisiana !

    • @Patty747
      @Patty747 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I was thinking the same thing. I hate to be critical too, but coming from up North, they might not be aware of the danger or didn't think about it.

    • @bonriver9420
      @bonriver9420 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I agree 100%. I was holding my breath all of the time that Maverick was by that pond. Alligators can move very fast and pull someone, especially a small child into the pond.

      I "liked" this comment, but hasten to add that I believe that it is already the "rule". Our little ones are our treasure, and even when we are allowing them to explore the wilderness we have precautions in place. Last night I took our twin grandsons (14 months), and their 2 yo and 6 yo brothers on a walk. I planned every bit of their roaming time, even that I was in my comfortable clothes and shoes so that I could re-direct them. It may have looked casual to an observer, but I was on high alert :) I believe it is the same for Doug and Ashley.

    • @clarehayden8314

      I admire you both but please keep Maverick safe, didn't Ashley say the water flows in from a bigger body of water, even more reason to assume it could be dangerous with gators, don't mean to be interfering but I really would be concerned.

    • @bradyhunsberger

      It can happen so quickly and unexpected. I remember hearing of a boy snatched from nearby the water at Disney World… DISNEY! You would never think that… you don’t think it’s too big of a deal, until it is, then it’s too late. I also don’t want to sound negative or punitive.

    I hope y'all are planning on setting a a foundation and building a well house? If so, set some French drains around the base and build the building out of cinder blocks. Protect your well and pressure tank! Have y'all had a water quality test done? If not, you need to have one done. No amount of filters can help if you have a contaminated well, with the flooding y'all have, you need to know.

    Don't touch the fuzzy caterpillars, almost all of them are toxic or venomous and can send you to the hospital. Rule of thumb, if its poky or fuzzy, let them well alone.

    I'm in TX and got hit hard last February from that freeze. The pipe between pump and tank cracked. I was staying in town as conditions at my place were unlivable, no power, no heat, no water, etc. for a week. When the power was turned on the well pumped water for over 12 hours and due to that broken pipe my place was flooded. Happy ducks and geese. You buying that tank before it actually was needed was a happy blessing.

    You just never know what's going to pop up during renovations. Years ago when we were doing a home renovation we would tell our Daughter (6 yrs old at the time) whatever you do, don't flush the toilet, then we would say it's ok to flush the toilet, then we would spring another leak and say don't flush. This went on for days and she got to the point where she would ask if it was ok to flush today. It got to be a running joke in that house lol. All good memories though. You too will collect those stories as you go and they will bring smiles to your faces for years to come. Hugs to Y'all Ü

Been very nice to see a young couple do good. And your right about living up north the six months of cold does us all a disfavor. We move back up north 2 years ago because we are getting on in years and need to be closer to our children. Living in Florida for 15 years was good. But we are getting on in our years and will need help soon or later and our Kids are all still working. We can't be having them go back and forth between Minnesota and Florida. Great to see you addressing the well head area:) I like the barrel idea to use as a form and the way you have raised the tank base up, it’s always enjoyable to watch the way you guys attack problems:) And having the well head raised is a great idea, where we live our code requires a minimum of 12” above the ground, I don’t know what your code is for your area, maybe higher then possible flood waters? Anyhow I know you will figure it out and make it better then is needed. It’s amazing how you guys do the work and film it as you do it then edit it then upload it, just the video work alone is tedious, so thank you for sharing your world again and again with us:) And I like the way you add in the family having fun together, and Maverick’s drawing:)God Bless

It's like hügelkultur for concrete (rather than a raised vegetable bed). Glad you were planning to replace the well/pressure tank anyway. Using the metal barrel as your concrete form was ingenuous. Great thinking Ashley. .. . . Doug: Do you think this'll fit in there?
    Ashley: Uhmmm. . . . Might JUST fit. . .
    Doug fits the big concrete block in.

    I really love that you think outside the box! It’s almost a necessary talent when you are renovating an old structure you have to be constantly on your toes and ready to spring into action on an unexpected and unpredictable situation! Great job! Your piers are looking awesome!

    Wow you really amaze us with all you accomplish in every video. Looking forward to more. I do worry with Maverick playing so close to the pond. He is so inquisitive I hope he stays safe. Love that boy and his love for his DADA. The trampoline is real fun for all of you too. Be safe and happy.

    When I read the title of this video before watching I became physically ill. I thought you had painted the ceiling and then had a roof leak! While I was so sorry to see you had a leak at your water source, the fact that you had planned to make repairs there and it was Not the new painted ceiling brought me such relief!!!
    I see in the comments that there are others like me that are amazed by your resourcefulness but I'm just going to say it again. Good on you Ashlie for thinking of the honey barrel as the perfect form for the well tank stand!
    What a caterpillar that was Bell! So beautiful in it's way. I wonder what it will turn into? Nature is just the absolute Greatest Thing!
    As always, know that you guys are my Favorite youtube family and I love you all.

    I am thrilled at how calm you guys are. My husband is like you, calm and resourceful. I, on the other hand, am chicken little... the sky is falling, the sky is falling! It does no good and I don't feel better but I do it anyway. 😁 So glad you are prepared and take it all in stride. Well done you. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

    What a great idea to put your tank on. What about building a flower box high enough to cover the drum? I hate to say I laughed out loud when you dropped that brick in the drum and the water splashed. If anything, a mud bath can be good for the skin. It’s great to see Ashley on the trampoline.

    So good to see you twice a week , soldiering on , meeting challenges and overcoming them . The ground seems pretty good by the way , fairly well dried out by the look of things . That didn’t take on long at all . Some wood really does need painting , the ceiling looks very nice .

    Being flexible and able to adjust to the unexpected are great traits and I think you have them in spades, Doug. I've always appreciated your ability to think outside the box, create new ways of doing things and simply putting into action things you dream up in your mind. You really have your hands full with this house but you are making great progress. I'm enjoying watching your children grow and explore, too.

    There are caterpillars that sting in Louisiana, it was bad they would build huge nests up in trees and thousands of them would fall out and on top of you.
    You'll see trees with aluminum foil or a paint stripe across the tree so they don't climb past it.

      I stripped asphalt siding off my house pulled the nails, filled the holes, sanded the whole house then hand brushed the whole out side with primer, then hand brushed Sherman Williams paint with 2 coats. When I sold the house I got my asking price, no problem.

    When you were showing the old rotted out pad the water tank sits on, I felt so proud of myself when I immediately thought "concrete!" LOL. I have learned some stuff from you guys! I love seeing your creative use of materials: the old rubble and the burn barrel as a form. And the new piers and beam look perfect! When you had originally shown how bad that situation was, I thought it was a deal-breaker, yet you took care of it. Great job!
