It's always good to see you ! My father was a tilesetter and by the age of 10 I worked with him and my uncle as their helper, mixing mud, grouting and clean up ! That was the early 60's, I had to join the helpers union as Donnie and wear a hat to hide the fact that I was a girl ! Watching you two work makes me so happy, I have always enjoyed remodeling and building ! I'm 70 now so I don't do much of anything and boy do I miss it so I live vicariously through your videos ! Thanks so much for the memories your renovation brings to me ! Love from Shreveport Louisiana ❤️💕❤️
Hi Dhana!! I love watching these guys and gals!! They are doing amazing things on this renovation!! I just wanted you to know you are not alone! I started doing renos on my and my 2 sons home when I was in my mid 20's. I'm pushing 60 and for the first time in my life, I hired help.😢 I could have done it alone but it takes me 4 times as long to get up off the floor and the 2 hours soaking in the tub is more time spent. I'm in the middle of our, my husband and my forever home and thank the LORD he put a cousin and his wife in our lives and have been such a blessing! I'm still puttering around but the house framing and concrete work through the years, have finally caught up with me. I love watching these guys and glad to know I'm not alone in the "omgosh, I wish I could do that agai", club!!😁
If I am not putting an actual door on an entry, such as from the hall to our living room, I like 42 to 48 inch openings. No squeezing furniture or taking handles off of appliances.
You guys should do a wall in a room that will be last and do a story board. Take pictures of things and ideas you like..... paint colors, fixtures, samples of wood and tiles and on and on. It helps you create visually where you want to go with the project. Especially when you are collecting from so many sources and not using a homecenter showroom.
Your door widths are important. Use 36" wherever possible to accommodate access by EMS personnel and equipment. We had a DWMH and the hall to one bedroom was very tight as well as the door. My father in law was in serious condition had to be carried out on a canvas litter that caused him much pain. Long story a little shorter. Plan your door ways and passage openings too work in a medical emergency. Also good for wheelchair and walker use.
I bought a 1926 American Four Square, here in Wisconsin, and I'm lucky enough that all the doors, including the closets, are 3' wide solid wood. Makes everything much easier to access. The tile is absolutely perfect and a hit for the period of your home. Very nice!
Ashley, beautiful tile. Love the design and the color. Can you have the kids show us their most current drawings/projects? I miss seeing their creations. Doug, don’t get down about not getting much done. Each job is a time consuming task. Keep up the great work. Stay well.
Oh my I'm totally in love with the mint tile, it's gorgeous...take a tile and stick to a board and try different colours of grout....just to be sure ...and be better to have a wider door for moving furniture 😁💟
Are you putting an actual door into the opening to the living room? If not, I think you should widen the opening all the way over to that first stud to the left of the door. Just a thought.
They had said in the beginning they needed to leave space for a couch living room not that big. Go back to the first diagram when he is explaining the floor plan. I go back to it a lot because I forget their original bideas.
That tile although I don't care for it myself is I think a good representation for this house and what your wanting to accomplish with it keeping within it's time period, what's ironic is that my parents selected the very same tile in a house or should I say frame of a house they purchased back in the later 70's. and this tile was used in the upstairs bathroom. although I think the tile was a bit darker green if memory serves me. For this house, it's going to look good along with everything else
When I saw the tile, the brown backing paper made me think of brown grout, right away. I know you want dark brown. But you can see with the paper lightish brown isn't bad either.😁👍. Glad to see the door way wider. Not so closed and claustrophobic.
oh I love the tile!!!! it's so pretty! Also working around the plastic and not tearing it was amazing lol I would have ripped it to shreds 🤣 I so enjoy your videos. Hugs and love from Mississippi ❤
I love how Ashley’s eye light up…you really know when she is committed to something in the house design! Love the tile and the color! Can’t wait to see the doors!
You guys that arent subscribed. Here is a bit of a teaser on a perks. We knew about the tile for a little while now. You would get updates on a lot of things between videos. Its worth it trust me!
I love the tile you selected. I often forget about Overstock. Sometimes they have amazing deals, other times their prices are the same as everywhere else I look. I like the idea of dark brown grout, but I've never installed tile or applied grout so take my opinion as one from a person with zero experience. I did see that same tile in a color called Glacier and LOVED it! I'd love to have that in my bathroom or kitchen backsplash. Be well and stay safe! 😊🌻
Huh, I went even more classic in my mind - my first thought was Roman mosaic tiles... 😉😂 It will be fascinating to see how easy they are to lay, and what the finish will look like. As always, we're not the ones living with any choice you make, so carry on doing what you want to do. I can still be curious about how it will look in the end, but I have no right to say it's a wrong choice. Although, if I like something, I do tend to say. Doesn't mean if I don't comment I don't like something, but what I am rambling about is your personal choice is what's important here, and you always explain what you are aiming for. Great to see how the renovation is coming along, and thanks for bringing us along.
Yes! I would feel very safe standing in that doorway during an earthquake of which there are many in NZ. Love those tiles! Your house appears to be very solid.
Hi Doug and Ashley, you can see how big the space is after your clean up, a lovely light and airy room. And your en-suite tile is beautiful, I love the shape and colour. 😊
So awesome you guys, great choice on the tile Ashley, it is so beautiful, love the color and the shape when I saw it made me go awww! I agree on the door opening needing to be 36 inches, that makes it better to move things through it. I am just loving seeing this renovation, it always gives me so many positive vibes and wanting to get my own projects going. Thanks for sharing another great video, and no worries that you say you didn't get much done, you are amazing in all of the things you do. Can't wait to see the next video, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
My son and his friends place a stick vertically in the grill of their four wheelers - they call it their hillbilly web whacker (we live in the Appalachian mts)
I don't know much about building houses, it sure looks like your house is going to be able to withstand any kind of storm that may come up! Can't wait to see the tiles laid, they"re pretty!
Love that tile! The color is up my alley! Happy to see you guys are going with different options! ❤️❤️ Can’t wait to see those doors! You are coming along!
I love the title you picked, Ashley. Almost mid century look and not just white, some color to flow into your bedroom. Good planning and nice idea. Love you videos and if one pops up I click on it immediately! 😀💕
The tile is a pretty color.. the shape is unique too.. it reminds me of tile I’ve seen in older homes built in the same era I think your house was built.. I look forward to how it looks once it’s installed..
Little smile on Ashleys face when Dough said Im Making progress in the Bedroom!!! (ha-ha). Before you screw big screws in to wood dip them in liquid soap they go in better. Thanks for video from UK.
A great advantage of small tiles with a wooden house is that if the house moves with continuous wet or dry weather the smaller tiles don't crack; sometimes the larger tiles do.
Tile is such a departure from the previous bathroom! Love it! We purchased knobs and drawer pulls at Overstock. The prices were the best! Thanks for the update.
Everyone ok no one hurt you all doing all right I HOPE SO it's been a while but always worth the wait well take care and Lord bless this family take care
Doug you are working so hard and it shows in all the projects you have completed. Again in every picture it is great to see Ashley smiling❤️❤️❤️, the bathroom tile is so cool and the color is great so tired of seeing builder grade beige . Green is suppose to be very soothing in the bedroom.
Absolutely LOVE that tile. I would be stumped on choosing the grout color though. Perhaps getting small grout samples and testing them on a small tile section would be fun before committing?? I think your brown color might be the better choice in the end though. I am so excited to see where you go with this re-build after seeing that tile. You both have a good eye for design and I sense a little period appropriate retro flare coming ???
love the tile, look very vintage and antique. the mint reminds me of some traditional Victorian tiles. never tried overstock. might have to look there too for some vintage looking tiles there.
Ashley, I LOVE the off-the-wall comments you sometimes make. This time it was at the end about riding into a large spe-ider web. 🤣🤣🤣 I agree! GROSS! And, Doug, you always do such beautiful work. A true craftsman.
I love the tiles beautiful color. That is definitely 60's style and color. My kitchen is 60's style. My coffee pot, toaster, hand mixer and milkshake mixer is all in that color. Turquoise blue. I also have colorful pots and pans.
You guys rock. Not sure if you watch Renovation East or not. ( love that channel ) but he mentioned you guys on his channel last week. Said he watches all your videos. Very glad I found both of your channels a couple of years ago. Can't get enough of you .
Very pretty tiles. But try the grout in some off cuts first to make sure you like it. I’ve made that mistake before! Green is such a lovely peaceful colour.
I think the tile is gorgeous. What a beautiful color and so Florida colors. I think brown will be easier to keep clean. It will be so nice when you all get to enjoy your bedroom

Watching you amazes me how thoroughly you do your work! I wish we had more of the younger generation of men like you!!!!
If I am not putting an actual door on an entry, such as from the hall to our living room, I like 42 to 48 inch openings. No squeezing furniture or taking handles off of appliances.
We prefer to preserve more wall space in the living room for furniture.

The shape of the bathroom tile is vintage. It will become a soothing and calm presence. If you're going vintage, that's a good shape and color.
I bought a 1926 American Four Square, here in Wisconsin, and I'm lucky enough that all the doors, including the closets, are 3' wide solid wood. Makes everything much easier to access.

Very intelligent design choices. You definetely have a style that is uniquely yours. Really well thought out.

Ashley, excellent choice in tile. The color and shape is so classy. I can't wait to see the bathroom done. 😄
I think those tiles also fit in with your idea to go with a more vintage look in this renovation.
I'm checking everyday for new footage. I'm so excited to see your progress. Your both doing an amazing job. Xx
Doug I just love how y’all plan everything out so it fits your needs. Y’all are doing an amazing job!
Are you putting an actual door into the opening to the living room? If not, I think you should widen the opening all the way over to that first stud to the left of the door. Just a thought.

That last work should have been “ ideas”.
Don’t know how to make corrections after I submit the post?
No actual door, just an open doorway.

When I said dark, I meant medium brown. Most brown grouts are very light so I meant dark in comparison.
You can also get grout in mint green or other greens and the brown edges will stand out... might be something to consider... could be pretty
Good idea.
Thank you. Everyone is doing white. It's nice to see you are adding color with the tile.
Very very pretty tiles. Love ❤️
oh I love the tile!!!! it's so pretty! Also working around the plastic and not tearing it was amazing lol I would have ripped it to shreds 🤣 I so enjoy your videos. Hugs and love from Mississippi ❤
I love the tiles!!! It’s got a 1920’s feel to them👌🏼❤️

The minty colour came through just fine. A lovely colour.
That tile is beautiful. Awesome choice. Y'all rock this remodeling thing.
I love the tile you selected. I often forget about Overstock. Sometimes they have amazing deals, other times their prices are the same as everywhere else I look. That tile is so pretty, it reminds me of one of the sea glass colors.
A sand colored grout with a sea glass colored tile sounds pretty.
LOVE the tiles! Can't wait to see them installed! Thanks for sharing.
My living room is about that color green. It's so calming and I have not gotten tired of it at all. I painted it that color a few years back.
I love Egyptian and Turkish tiles they have amazing colours and design
Love the tile the color and design. great choice
Yes we used a bar of soap to keep large diaper pins (for cloth diapers) in to make them slide in easily.
That is beautiful tiles great choice,I love all greens
The tiles are so pretty. Well done you!!
A great advantage of small tiles with a wooden house is that if the house moves with continuous wet or dry weather the smaller tiles don't crack; sometimes the larger tiles do.
Love the tile. Something different. Such an exciting time.
Love the tile, perfect for the era of the home. I’ve had that color in my last three homes,
Tile is such a departure from the previous bathroom! Love it! We purchased knobs and drawer pulls at Overstock. The prices were the best! Thanks for the update.

Love the retro tiles! Reminds me of the beautiful classics homes from the 20s-40s!👍🏼
Absolutely LOVE that tile. I would be stumped on choosing the grout color though. Perhaps getting small grout samples and testing them on a small tile section would be fun before committing?? I think your brown color might be the better choice in the end though.

I love the color and the design of the tile. Great choice!
love the tile, look very vintage and antique. the mint reminds me of some traditional Victorian tiles. never tried overstock. might have to look there too for some vintage looking tiles there.
you might want to do a small test sample with the grout and tile to see if you really like the color combination
As soon as I saw the tile I thought "perfect" and then I said oh I hope they go with brown grout. Like you channel.
Hey, my dears, good to see you doing well. I really like the tile, a chocolate brown grout would look amazing! ❤🖖🙏🇨🇦
Love the design and color of the bathroom tile.
