I appreciate the video, but is that light absolutely the best option? There isn't another one with a similar price and the same features that plugs in?
Yes, I plan on doing a natural light tutorial soon! The only downside with natural is you can’t control it fully, but in my opinion it is the best looking light!
I’ve been into cinematography and filming just recently. As a student, I’m always on a budget and need to find cheap solutions for equipment, lightning, etc. But with your tutorials being on a budget doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore and I’m really motivated to work on my videos. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us! It’s really helpful!
Starting out with cheap equipment is the best thing you can do! You’ll learn how to maximize it, improvise, innovate, and then one day when you have more expensive gear, appreciate
Picked up a couple of the Viltrox L116T LED LIGHTs and two sets of batteries (total 4 batteries) and a charger, already had stands and reflector. The lights work great, they drain the battery quicker than I hoped for so good decision getting an extra set of batteries. I do plan to pick up a couple more sets of batteries for on location where there's no power option. These lights really are a great addition to my kit and resolved my issues with video flicker. Thanks for posting this video, super helpful.
You have just helped me touch the lives of many people who need health advice in these times. Thanks so much Ben. All the best with your continued efforts in bringing us value!
I came not even wanting to spend $30 for the good recommendation he made but still benefited from his reminding me that I can use the cheap photography light reflector that I already own as a fill light. Liked and subscribed.
Ive been watchin guides for lightings... and these 2 videos are by far the clearest, most comprehensive, and easy to understand and follow! Will definitely follow these steps and recommend as well to my friends!
I'm obsessed with all of these lighting videos.. Ben makes it so simple. :3 I've really upped my lighting game with just a view videos from Ben. Love it!
Excellent, concise video showing people what can be done with a few inexpensive items positioned in an effective way, great job and of course, thank you
A quick questions. What is your distance between yourself and the wall behind you in this setup of yours? Fyi, absolutely brilliant explanation both in this and the reference video. Thanks @ben for taking the time to shoot such quality videos that help us learn the art of lighting.
Hi there! I know nothing about lighting, but the looks you create feeeel like art to me. Before I purchase all the stuff above, would you change any of your recommendations, now, a year+ later? I would love to hear!
@@benjohnsoncreative Thank you, especially for your quick reply!! I really loved the small size of the first one you recommended, but as I go to buy it now, I see it only goes as warm as 3300. Do you know of small, dimmable ones that go warmer?
Thanks! I'm trying to decide on lighting to buy as a gift for someone interested in filming in their home music studio and I like that these are options that can be customizable but don't totally break the bank.
awesome tips, thank you! look forward to the day you make an instructional video on making youtube cooking videos with lighting on a shoestring budget!
One option I like are those bendy lamps that are mainly used by ladies when they're doing their nails. They're very bright, and you can put colored paper on them to make a cool effect.
Just watched your other lighting vid and thought I'd see what else you had. This is great man. I've only started using a webcam so I can't tell you how much this helps. 🍻
This information is really helpful to me. I’ve just started my youtube channel about a week ago and I didn’t have any clues on lighting. I’m trying to find out how I can boost up the lighting for my videos. Thanks for the great info bro.🙂 Anyone who is reading this, y’all are gonna be successful one day :)
@@benjohnsoncreative Thanks man. Your videos are a gold mine of information. Just ordered some of the suggested stuff here and from your other videos. Excited to give it a try.
Randomly came across your channel. This and the previous video about lighting for TH-cam have been so helpful to me. Thank you so much for sharing this beyond informative content.
Great video. One thing that would be helpful is seeing how the lights are being propped up and their positioning. And what is being used to hold up the lights, especially the rim light.
Hi Ben, I’ve just been served your Lighting For TH-cam video as a recommendation. Loved that video so headed to your home page. This video jumped out at me, and here we are. Couldn’t believe how few subscribers and videos you have considering the high quality of your content (based on the two I’ve watched so far). Anyway, I’ve subscribed and turned on all notifications, and looking forward to seeing what you have in the future. Good luck buddy, great things are coming your way very soon. (One minor little niggle though- please consider shortening your intro, as it very nearly lost me on the first video I watched. I was about to click off, when it finally wrapped up. I was keen from the thumbnail and title, so wanted to stick around. Thankfully, the content was so good and to the point without any excessive waffle and b-roll that I’m now fully on board). 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching, and yes a new shorter intro is on the to do list you aren’t the first to recommend that, Thankyou for taking the time to share the constructive feedback! 💯
Thanks for this content, Ben...I'm trying to get some knowledge and ideas for lighting a small studio space. Love the FPS-style background lighting selection scene, btw. I laughed.

Oooooh I like those lights, I may not need 2 as I record in a room that uses natural light as a secondary light source but the single light and the reflector would be perfect to get started with. Thank you!!! Edit: Looked into the light and reflector, you do need to purchase a tripod for both along with the battery for the light. Going to just go with the single light for now, I think that the reflector can come a little later but I actually have 2 windows in my recording space and after reviewing my options decided that there should be plenty of lighting just from that.
Most lights dont come with light stands, unfortunately. This video: th-cam.com/video/nNdLe_E2228/w-d-xo.html shows a light that I use often and it comes with a lightstand
