Cuba FM/TV DX from Florida Keys, Nov. 11, 2023

Three days after the cross-Gulf tropospheric event, also here on TH-cam, I traveled to the Florida Keys; the exact spot shown in this video.
This was a great opportunity to check out the new TEF6686 for RDS out of Cuba. Per Free Map Tools, the distance to Havana is only about 130 miles; but one must remember that Cuban FM stations do not run all that much power. Many in Havana run a little over 3,000 watts, on short towers; I had read that it’s mainly due to the constant threat of storms.

Notes:
a. 91.7, 98.3, and 101.5 all had RDS at one time, but it doesn’t look like it now.
b. 98.3, 99.9, and 101.5 are co-frequency to strong Miami area FM stations.
c. *You will notice a very brief drop out in audio for a split second. It seems that every FM station in Havana (Taīno 94.7 relays 93.3 Havana) has this. I wonder if it’s some sort of copyright deal there. (Shrug)

Radio Mayabeque transmite desde mi pueblo natal, Güines, tambien transmite por los 95.9 FM. Esta alrededor de 162 millas de la ubicacion que la recibiste.

There is no unique name for this radio. You'll find it on the web searching for
the TEF6686 chip used in this radio.
