    This is in no way stronger 💪 than previous it's an economical repair as opposed to replacement though it won't last nearly as long, still it works and a good example of engineering

      Your funny this is such a horrible repair they didn’t use correct welding procedure and now thst weld is the weakest area from no pre heat

    • @captsploof
      @captsploof ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bojangles1987 This, this right here the technique used to weld the axle wasn't not done properly. As far as engineering go's this is just flying seat of pants, bevel edge for a weld check, plug for rigidity and keeping location and to hello prevent warping check.
      The only thing they left out was a proper welding technique. I would love to see some tests performed on this axle and a cross section of this weld. I know some sticks are better at blowing away rust, but for what honest reason would you not prep all surfaces.

    Great engineering!! Drive the steel plug into the axle stub rust scale and all. That makes for a strong joint, dontcha know??
    This repair does NOT create a joint stronger than the original. Before it broke, the axle was in a constant state of compression - tension as it rolled. Those 2 forces were equally distributed over the diameter of the axle shaft. Now that the center of the axle is a separate piece, it no longer shares in compression or tension as the distribution of these forces now stops at the boundary between the repair plug and the original axles material. This allows the end of the axle to have leverage when exerting tension on the axle so only the repair plug will not share in carrying those loads and the axle can begin to fracture at the outer surface of the plug at the deepest point of the weld.

    • @captsploof
      @captsploof ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was gonna post the same, the axle was not designed in this manner. That weld will produce a weakness in the steel at the edges. I also do not understand leaving the stud with rust and scale it only creates possible porosity at the bottom of the joint. While this might do the trick for sometime, I'm 99% sure when this part fails again it will be by that very weld.

    These axles are so grossly overloaded that I do not know how they survive the abuse they put them through at all??? I don't know how those poor u-bolts hold the axle in place with the extreme weight they are loading on those crazy big leaf springs!!! I work on heavy duty trucks in the USA and these videos just amaze me how they overload these axles 4+ times the weight they were designed to haul!!

    • @tristan6509
      @tristan6509 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Japanese trucks are pretty durable, they're designed to carry alot more weight than the "rated capacity"
      It's still dangerous nonetheless though.

      @QuintonsIchannel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have you ever heard of a 5:1 test ratio? I can't speak for those axles or yours but from what I've seen most axles come between 3:1 5:1 or is tested 3 to 5 times it's marked rating. Manufacturers do this because it safer. Less law suits and its a better product.

    • @captsploof
      @captsploof ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest depth of cut doesn't mean much, it's the feed and speed that controls how much you can hog off. However, the real reason he's taking those cuts like butter is the machine has an available amount of power to get the job done.
      Most lathes on a shop floor which are a more average in nature could take the same cut if they had the same power. Nonetheless they were pretty crazy.

    It would have been better if the pieces were treaded and then welded.

    1st thing the axle was cut almost halfway through and then fatigued and broke the rest of the way . 2nd the corrosion on the press fit plugshould have been removed before pressing in (hammering into place in their case) as rust doesn't hold as well as clean metal on metal , also wouldn't be stronger then original, original was weakened by someone cutting it you can see it plain as day

    Everyone talking about the welds and so on. While im over cringing every time a person gets under a truck held up by a bottle Jack. No the safest thing to do. Or put these trucks in bottle jacks. The jacks are not meant for this. But to each his own. I respect my life more that this . Call it tires holding it up, but all it takes is one thing go wrong 😑

    Instead of welding repairs and patching simply carry the right weight. Problem solved.
