My English teacher (utd fan) was slashed from his armpit to his hip by a scouser in the 1985 fa cup semi final after the match. Completely changed him as a person, went from being a cool young down with the kids teacher to being serious and moody and losing his rag a lot as I remember.

You could see over the wall from the Clive road end. We all ran down the stairs into the courtyard to get out to them but the big gates were locked .utd fans were asking the police to open the gates but they refused so everyone just pushed at the gates and unfortunately the pillars holding them up gave way and crushed the 2 people. The boro fans legged it chased by the Utd fans who didn’t know what had happened.

They were a strange lot, this 'Red Army'. They ran riot in the mid 70's & when they were in the 2nd Division, thousands of them (from all over the country) would travel to the smaller towns & take them over completely. They used to brag about how many of them there where at the time. Then, when they got promoted back, they went to Goodison & got battered by thousands of blues (& reds) all the way down Scotty Rd after the game.
Then they complained about being 'outnumbered'.....😂
As I say, they were a strange lot.

Boro gets mentioned twice in this video 1980 we had it with them previous to kick off on Ayresome Park Road backwards and forwards for what seemed likes ages , IMO Boro got the better of them , the unfortune incident when the wall fell down was nothing to do with hooliganism , it was because the Man U fans where held back in the Clive Road corner and it caused a build up of pressure against the wall and unfortunately 2 genuine fans i think they where husband and wife lost their lives , the worst violence i was ever involved in at Ayresome Park was against Sunderland in 1981 fucking mental that day , but the best firm i ever seen at Ayresome Park man to man was West Ham , not many in number but they where game as fuck IMO. The second mention of Boro was at The Riverside all game as fuck but the Police had it sorted that day really

I was at the game and it was caused by a lot of boro fans outside the Clive road giving it large. The Utd fans tried to get out of the ground to have it with them but the police tried to keep them back, the Utd fans then pushed the police aside and started to push on the big gates keeping us in and the force made the concrete supports holding the gates to give way crushing the people walking past. The boro fans then scattered and were chased up the side streets by the Utd fans. I only found our people had died the next day. Tragic.
