For the princely sum of 3 bucks, I celebrated my 15th birthday and very first concert sitting in the 3rd row of our local AM radio's annual "appreciation day" concert. The year was 1969. Bob Seger and Kenny Rogers opened and Neil Diamond was the headliner. Not too shabby,
The funny thing about the duet, Neil Diamond wrote the song and recorded it. Streisand covered the song shortly after. A DJ heard both versions and spliced them together. Either Diamond or Streisand heard it, and the 2 decided to record the duet.
I went to see him in 2000, and he is so amazing on stage. Parkinson's has taken the control of his voice away that's the only reason he isn't still singing live now. I will and my vote to all the songs listed to listen to and add "Beautiful Noise". He wrote his songs and a ton for everyone else. Enjoy the ride
Did you know that Parkinson’s doesn’t kill . It the only disease that doesn’t kill the person. The person wants to die ti get away from the pain. But the disease doesn’t kill you
Yes he writes his songs! They are personal snapshots from his life. He wrote "Theyre Coming to America" about his grandmother fleeing Europe for the US as a young girl. It's a great anthemic, patriotic song about the American dream that has brought millions to our shores in search of safety and the chance of a better life and it's my personal favorite from Neil Diamond.
i went to a concert in the 90s with my mother and father and my husband (their mates cancelled and they had two spare tickets). and omg as you say swoon, my father and my husband were embarrassed as their better halves swooned and squealed to him.. man he has the 'stuff' and he wasn't young then. I recall thinking.. he's as old as my parents but wow.
Where do I begin? Well, your review is one of the best of Neil Diamond I’ve seen on here. Your appreciation for his songwriting and baritone voice is critical. To help you with his catalogue his pop hits included “I’m A Believer”, “Red Red Wine”, “Sweet Caroline” “Girl You’ll be a Woman Soon” (Pulp Fiction) and “Brother Loves Travelling Salvation Show” (Once upon a time in America). “Cracklin Rosie” His big hits included “I Am I Said”, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers”, “Solitary Man” “Be” (Jonathan Livingstone Seagul) “If you Know What I Mean” (Beautiful Noise - produced with Bobby Robertson) “Holly Holy”. He did one film The Jazz Singer which had huge success with songs “Hello Again”, “Love On The Rocks”, “America” He was really special though as a live performer and there’s plenty of footage of his work In The 1970s live on TH-cam that you can view. Small incidental facts, he’s always been very close with Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder. He introduced Elton John to the US. His drummer was Ronnie Tutt (who played for Elvis until he died and went to Neil in 1979 and stayed him. Lastly I am biased because my late father became very friendly with him in the late 60s and I spent a lot of the 1980s as a kid touring with them…
I saw him live about 6 years ago and he killed it still. He didn't have a band open for him. The whole concert was just him and his band. Was one of the best concerts I have been to
Neil was born in NYC to a Jewish family. His father was a cantor in their synagogue. Seems his family is full of vocal talent. Thanks for checking out my favorite Neil Diamond song.
My family knew his from Brighton Beach and their store Diamonds on Brighton Beach Ave. I don’t believe Kieve was a cantor. One of his grandparents, might have been.
@sukie584 You could be right. I remember reading that someone in his childhood was a cantor. There was a time when I read everything about him I could find. Had a huge crush on Neil Diamond! @ 15. Now I'm a lifelong fan 50 years down the road. ✌️
Neil Diamond's father was a teacher at Tilden High School in Brooklyn NY. My dad was one of his students. My dad used to tell about how Mr. Diamond would talk about his son in his classes.
Neil Diamond has the best voice. I took my mom to see him in 2006, I may have the year wrong but it was the best concert. His stage was round. I saw him in 2016 it was his Diamond anniversary, he'd been performing for 50 years and shortly after that it was announced he would no longer be touring because he was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. There is a show on Broadway titled "What a Beautiful Noise " that chronicles Neil Diamond from the beginning of his career. These are some of my favorite songs you should do: America (from the movie The Jazz Singer), Forever in Blue Jeans, Sweet Caroline, You Don't Bring Me Flowers--duet with BARBRA STREISAND!!!), "Song Sung Blue," "Holly Holy," "Kentucky Woman,".... I could go on and on. You will enjoy his songs, I've never heard a bad song from Neil Diamond.
I went with my mom in 2007 or 2008, and it was wonderful. He was still such a showman. That moment when the flag dropped during America was so cool. And the pure joy of the audience during Sweet Caroline was so wholesome.
Neil Diamond is one of those rare artists who can take his own personal pain and write a song that is lyrically pure poetry and clever as well as getting a haunting melody where the two combined connect right with your heart and help you feel the same things he felt. Just incredible.
Love Neil. Still alive but old and poorer health. Seen live twice. So glad was lucky enough to. Ty for reaction. Smooth as Smooth. Songwriting unmatched. Maybe Paul Simon. That's the money grit. 😊
HE IS TO ME AMERICA'S GREATEST SINGER/SONGWRITER. WITH OVER 100 HITS AND MANY OF HIS HIT HAVE GONE GOLD AND PLATINUM. HAS WRITTEN SONGS FOR MOVIES AND OTHER ARTIST TOO. THE MAN IS AN ICON. HE WILL GO DOWN AS ONE OF THE GREATEST ARTISTS OF ALL TIMES. THIS SONG (I AM I SAID) IS A MINI AUTOBIOGRAPGICAL LOOK INTO HIS LIFE AND PSYCHE. IT WAS A CALL FOR HELP. WHEN HE WAS GOING THROUGH THE FEELINGS OF LONLINESS AND EMPTYNESS AND TRYING TO REACH OUT TO FAMILY, FRIENDS AND OTHER ARTIST FROM BOTH COAST. NOT EVEN HIS THYRAPIST (THE CHAIR) WAS LISTENING TO HIM "LEAVING HIM LONLY STILL. LIKE THE FROG WHO DREAMED OF BEING A KING. NEIL HAD IT ALL. WITH FAN ADULATION, FAME AND FORTUNE. AND STILL THE FEELINGS OF LONILINESS AND EMPTYNESS WILL NOT LET HIM GO LEVING HIM LONELY STILL. "I NEVER CARED FOR THE SOUND OF BEING ALONE."-NEIL DIAMOND
There is a show on Broadway right now called Beautiful Noise about Neil Diamond and his music. I’ve seen Neil two or three times. He puts on a spectacular concert. When he had a large band, same musicians for years and years…and when he toured, the whole family of those bandmate traveled with them!! He said in an interview that it kept his band mates from being lonely, it helped keep those marriages strong and they all became a huge family who knew each other well. And that band stayed together from the mid 60’s through his whole career!
A fond memory I have is listening to his Taproot Manuscript album on my portable cassette tape player while sitting on the lawn between classes at college in the early 70s. In the 80s I was able to see him in concert 3 times. He was amazing!
Neil is a Legend. He was absolutely fantastic in the movie The Jazz Singer and the soundtrack is fire I love the track America from the film. He did a favourite duet of mine with Barbara Streisand You Don’t Bring Me Flowers
I saw him in concert and he did 32 songs (all hit songs for himself or songs he wrote for others) and we all left listing the songs he didn't sing....he has that many recognizable hits.
Song sung blue. I believe it's what you was trying to hum. It's a good song. First time I'd heard it was at a concert. Right there on stage he was showing us how he wrote songs. True master.
This song spoke to my adolescent loneliness. Wanting to be free of the oppressive scene at home, dreaming that someone who hears me and sees me. Neil is a singer-songwriter and did write this awesome tune. Peace to all.😊😊
My darling dad and I would listen to Neil Diamond when I was about 14 and only into rock music like AC/DC. But I loved sitting with my dad, just us two, and I started to love Neil Diamond. This song in particular reminds me of my father, who I lost in December 2022, and I know that I will cry hearing this but such strong and wonderful memories are attached to this song, and my dad who I was so close to. Miss you dad.
Neil Diamond is for sure a treasure. He wrote his own songs as well as songs for others. Only found out a couple of days ago that he wrote my favorite song by the Monkees "I'm a Believer"
A legend of modern music. And yes, he wrote his own songs! Sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and broke attendance records wherever he performed. His voice is so distinctive and unique and in my opinion very underrated.
Yes, Neil Diamond is still alive. He grew up in Brooklyn and in fact went to the same high school (Erasmus Hall) as Barbra Streisand, although they didn't know each other. Years later, he presented her with her Oscar for writing the Best Original Song "Evergreen", the theme from "A Star is Born" (1976). A short time later, they recorded "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" as a duet, after having both released their own single versions.
Took my Dad to a concert (as a gift) back in the 90's not really knowing anything but that Dad liked him. Walked out a fan with the CD and matching t-shirt's.. Instant fan. He was unbelievable.
Ive seen many, many live music shows. From "Rock," Jazz, Classical and a lot in between. Niel Diamond...THE BEST show I have ever experienced...seriously...Bloody amazing performer~ song writer. I cried three times during the show. Once, convulsing in my diaphragm like a baby......Jesus, just outstanding.
You should hear his performance of "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" on his live album "Neil Diamond Gold: Live at the Troubador." He doesn't holds back. He poured himself out, on that stage, doing that song.
0:32 Everyone sings along with "Sweet Caroline." Yes Neil Diamond is still alive but he doesn't perform anymore because he has Parkinson. Need to check some of his "newer" songs off of the album "Melody Road." I believe it was released in 2016.
Krizz, if you want to follow the Neil Diamond trail, let me recommend a path less traveled - his album "Beautiful Noise" was unique and definitely worth the listen. The songs were written in a "Tin Pan Alley" style and are a great diversion from his top hits. I'd recommend the title cut "Beautiful Noise" or "If You Know What I Mean" as a good intro to his Tin Pan Alley days.....
You are thinking "Sweet Caroline". You grew up with head phones to listen to your music. When I grew up we could not afford that luxury. I wore out my fathers vinyl album of Neil's "Hot August Night" laying between the speakers of an RCA Console Stereo, on the living room floor!!!!
I'm a 70s child and born in NM. I moved away at 19 yrs old. Lived in the west and east coast. Currently in VA. Every time I hear this song, I connect to it. I've never felt connected to either, east nor west coast. I always feel the desert is calling me. But I'm sure, as we all get older, we want to re connect to our hometown. ❤
What's up, my favorite rapper of all time? Neil Diamond is a monster, glad to see you reacting to him. Nobody knew how to arrange French horn, flugle horn, and strings better with accoustic guitar better. Hope your getting paid well for that Apple commercial. See you next time you're in the ICT! My older sister introduced me to Neil Diamond, just love him. For a real experience, shut off the lights, lay down and listen to the Johnathan Livingston seagull album. He masters anything he tries. ❤
I saw BP do a reaction to “Coming to America “ and “ Sweet Caroline” but the crazy thing was at work on the intercom they played “ Forever in Blue Jeans “. Do you know how long it’s been since I heard it? Years. It’s been years since I heard this much Neil Diamond.
Neil Diamond (his real name) is still alive but has Parkinson's disease and can no longer do concerts. He wrote most of the soundtrack for "The Jazz Singer," and it is tremendous. Also, check out "America" by Mr. Diamond. So many great songs in his catalog.
You just won me back. Diamond is incredible, and this is actually my 5th favorite song of all time! You should check the live version of this from his Hot August night, live at the Greek album from 73ish. He also wrote so many.... like Red Red Wine
My father was a huge Neil Diamond fan & turned me on to him. Sweet Caroline, Forever in Blue Jeans, America etc. .He was in a movie called The Jazz Singer That I watched with my dad back in the day. Absolutely fantastic movie. You must check it out.
In my youth, I didn't appreciate Neil Diamond. I thought of him as "old people's music." Over the years, I've grown to appreciate the artistry and really enjoy his work. I guess I just had to get closer to "old people" status!

WOW!! (From Australia 🇦🇺)
How lucky!
Wow!!❤️🤘🏻
I am jealous. 😜
Check out Neil's song "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show". He lets it rip!
Did you know that Neil and Barbra Streisand where in the same high school choir? Years later they did a duet called “you don’t bring me flowers”.
almost 70 years old and didn't know that til just now....unreal when you think about the odds of that.......
The funny thing about the duet, Neil Diamond wrote the song and recorded it. Streisand covered the song shortly after. A DJ heard both versions and spliced them together. Either Diamond or Streisand heard it, and the 2 decided to record the duet.

“Sweet Caroline “ maybe?
That’s the one I thought of. It’s my favorite of his.
My favorite too along with Crackling Rose

Sweet Caroline - Hell Yes!!!

I saw Neil Diamond in concert way back when...swoon 🥰 - This is one of my favorite songs by him - although he has so many, it changes often

Saw him in concert in Oklahoma City back in the 70’s.
And yes he had the whole audience singing Song Sung Blues.
Great show!
Just subbed
"Holly Holy" is a fantastic song to listen to as well :)

@@sukie584nope his dad owned a haberdashery store. He’s mixing it his story with the Film The Jazz Singer
My favorite too. Very introspective, personal track.
Neil Diamond's father was a teacher at Tilden High School in Brooklyn NY. My dad was one of his students. My dad used to tell about how Mr. Diamond would talk about his son in his classes.
Now you need to list to The Traveling Salvation Show. That shows his true power.
Yes!DEFINITELY! That’s my FAVOURITE song of Neil’s!
one of my fav Neil Diamond songs along with Shilo

He is a warm bass-baritone (very rare voice type), but can also reach up to tenor high C5 (also rare for a bass-baritone). Silky, silky voice.
I went with my mom in 2007 or 2008, and it was wonderful. He was still such a showman. That moment when the flag dropped during America was so cool. And the pure joy of the audience during Sweet Caroline was so wholesome.
That deep silky voice just takes me back to when it was on the radio. I remember w here I was when I first heard it.
Such a fine song.
Truly one of the greatest performers I ever had the chance to see. He has given us so many memorable songs that we can always cherish.
Neil Diamond is one of those rare artists who can take his own personal pain and write a song that is lyrically pure poetry and clever as well as getting a haunting melody where the two combined connect right with your heart and help you feel the same things he felt. Just incredible.
Sweet Caroline!! Everything Neil does is wonderful!!

The ORIGINAL release version of his HOT AUGUST NIGHT album is incredible.

Holly Holy classic
Great memories ND listening to it on 8-track tape with the parents 70's in the car 🎶🎵🔊

My aunt Judy wrote a song for Neil. Not a classic but he ended up making it the title track for an album called I'm Glad You're Here With Me Tonight.
Neil Diamond is for sure a treasure. He wrote his own songs as well as songs for others. Only found out a couple of days ago that he wrote my favorite song by the Monkees "I'm a Believer"
If you're in a bar and "sweet Caroline" comes on, everybody sings!!!!!
You’re thinking of Sweet Caroline…. He also wrote Red Red Wine which you might know from UB40.
🎵 "...a man lost between two shores..." 'twixt NY/LA, Neil Diamond: "I am, I said! To no one there! No one heard at all...not even the chair..." 💧💎🪑

Neil Diamond -"Love on the rocks".
Neil diamond is absolutely an excellent singer And songwriter he wrote many songs for other people Anne wrote pretty much every one of his own songs.

He doesn't holds back. He poured himself out, on that stage, doing that song.
Hot August Night Live: Holly Holy, Brother Love and Sulaimon.
Always loves the drum,...reminds me of a heartbeat pulling me back
Yes, he is still alive. I love Solitary Man. From the 60s, as I recall. The one everyone knows is SWEET CAROLINE.
0:32 Everyone sings along with "Sweet Caroline." Yes Neil Diamond is still alive but he doesn't perform anymore because he has Parkinson. Need to check some of his "newer" songs off of the album "Melody Road." I believe it was released in 2016.
I love Neil Diamond, always have. He was extremely popular in the 70's and had great songs.
Great voice, great songs!❤❤❤❤
that was a little shorter version. Yes, he was songwriter before he sang.
Patty-I saw him in concert once and had the best time. I loved everything he did. My all-time favorite is Solitary Man.
Yes the grit in his voice makes him so manly lol ✌️💞
I adore Neil Diamond. My favorite is Cracklin’ Rosie, but the one I recommend for you is Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show.
Fire reaction man 🔥
I'm a 70s child and born in NM. ❤
beautiful song, i love it every time you say, give me a pause
Seen an apple commercial with krizz song genius on it. I was like hell yea 😂
GENIUS!
You recognize that line of the song because it’s used in a currently running car ad!
I saw him in ‘08 I think he was in his late 60’s the show was amazing 🌟

Sweet Caroline and Neil is alive but In January 2018, Diamond announced that he would stop touring after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Sticking to this theme, listen to "I Got A Name" by Jim Croce.

Neil Diamond/Done Too Soon😮😊Don't miss out on this forgotten classic😢You will be the very first to react to this inspiring classic hit😊
Many great hits from this man.
Neil is been a long time member in the song writers hall of fame
If I recall correctly this was his first big hit song. TI was not a teenager yet when this song came out. I am 69 years old now.
Thank you for keeping my music alive
He is alive!! He is the best! Been listening to him since I was 11 or 12, and that was a long time ago. This is one of my favorites by him.
Love it. And you have a good voice also 😊
In my youth, I didn't appreciate Neil Diamond. I thought of him as "old people's music." Over the years, I've grown to appreciate the artistry and really enjoy his work. I guess I just had to get closer to "old people" status!
One of the many favourites i have of ND.
My mom loved Neil Diamond. His voice is so unique.
This one gets me in the feels every time. Yes, Neil wrote his own songs.
Great song.
