  • Every day, ships from all over the world unload thousands of tons of goods at Spanish ports operated by maritime terminals operator Noatum. Efficiency is key to Noatum’s business model. That means they needed to have the right cranes in place at every port to load and unload the different kinds of cargo. However, moving these cranes between ports is a massive challenge.
It requires the crane to be dismantled, transported by road and reassembled at a different port. This is a time consuming and costly process. But what if they could be moved in one piece and transported by sea? Actanis, a company specialized in complex logistics services which belong to Noatum, went in search of a partner who could find the most efficient solution for transporting these huge structures between different ports.

At a glance I'd assume those things are far too top-heavy to move but that's my problem.

Is there anything that Mammoet can't lift or move?

how is this cost effective? with the down time, removal/transport/installation costs, and risk. why are they shuffling gantry's around from port to port, instead of having the right number/type of cranes at each port. is the juice worth the squeeze?

Considering the fact that this was the Avenue they chose, I'd say "fuck, obviously!"

Not all cranes are equal: perhaps some ports don't have any cranes large enough to handle big ships, while others have two... also I found an article saying that one or two were destroyed in an accident recently.

Building a new one is expensive and slow too, if you can receive a ready to go crane it's very time effective.
