- The Onsan refinery is South Korea’s premier refining facility and a major contributor to the country’s thriving economy. With the aim to increase output, S-OIL was looking to expand the refinery. A joint venture lead by Daelim was engaged to construct a Residue Upgrading Complex (RUC). The new facility would convert low value residue into high value products such as gasoline and olefin downstream products.
As part of the construction of the RUC, three columns needed to be lifted into an upright position. The challenge posed was that the columns weighed up to 2000 tons each and had to be lifted within the confined space of the refinery. The initial plan to use a gantry system was projected to take three months to complete because of the need to relocate it for each lift. So Mammoet came up with an alternative solution.

you guys need to make longer videos. you edit these massive projects down so well, but i (and i imagine many others) would love to see more of the amazing machinery doing what it does. more of your teams assembling, disassembling, moving, and operating all of those machines/cranes/etc.. even just the pack in and out would be fascinating to watch.

I was wondering where the PTC is based. Do multiple units spread out around the globe exist? Or is it shipped by containers via boat from the Netherlands everytime it is used?

I would like to add my vote to the call for longer videos. This particular video while interesting is kind of like a movie short, barely a taste of the real thing. I also want you to avoid going down the route of the overly dramatic documentary path. They are a pain for everyone to watch. You also need to avoid the overly slick sales video approach, they suck as well. Probably the best solution is to make two versions of the project video, a short 7 to 12 minutes of the project and then a longer multi part video of the project from start to finish with each part being about 20 minutes long and clearly labelled so that people can easily find all the parts to view the entire video and later go back to watch segments of particular interest.
