  • See the first fully-automated terminal in the United States, LBCT in Long Beach, California in operation and learn interesting specifics about the terminal. The powerful mega-cranes at the quay serve mega-vessels with tremendous lifting capacity in terms of weight and ability to handle multiple containers simultaneously. Fast discharging of containers is further enabled by the fast, fully automatic portal trolley that moves containers between the crane platform and the horizontal transportation. At the yard, efficient automatic stacking cranes featuring fully automatic landing and pick-up of containers on road chassis and remote exception management from a centralized control room, ensure efficient yard operations. The automated intermodal yard cranes serve the trains at on-dock rail yard. All these amazing, electrically driven cranes are equipped with ABB’s Intelligent automation solutions for safer, greener and more productive container handling. Visit www.abb.com/ports for more information.

Yes, but it's better dealing with those ghetto security guards and clerks, not to mention the entitlement from crane operators, and disrespect truckers have to endure along with threats of being banned from the port. It's just overall better for the terminal to save money and for us not to deal with emotional people who have irrational trajectory's triggering there attitutdes.. we just want to get in and out.. clerks and longshoreman's want to feel important but were all replaceable, unless you have a real educational background but most ppl in the ports live middle class lives and rather work than learn.

Would you like replace all robots in the world with humans doing Pick & Place operations 8 hrs / day? I think that our brain can do more than that. There are plenty of new opportunities to get better payed and more interesting jobs than just moving containers the whole day and "playing" the brain of the huge harbour crane. Let PLC do the job for our brains and we would use them more efficiently in other areas.
