About why Silvers Rayleigh is called the Dark King : You said it perfectly, Rayleigh is the Darkness to Roger's light. Just like Zoro is more vicious and isn't afraid to show some bloodlust. I would be 100 times more afraid to anger Zoro than Luffy. I view Rayleigh the same way, except, he's a bit more jovial than Zoro is.
It was Naruto that gave flashbacks a negative reputation. And far as I remember it was mainly because they kept replaying that same Itachi kills the Uchia one over and over. Kept trying to milk it for all it was worth using it as filler basically. One Piece the flashbacks are always different and major plot points occur in them.
I've always believed "Dark King" meant simply that, where Roger "ruled" in the light, Rayleigh "ruled" from the shadows. Roger and Luffy are extraordinarily similar, so I imagine that in the early days, Roger had a lot of similar problems and emotional hangups as Luffy did/does. So he needed someone more stern and level-headed to balance him out and keep him on track, the same way Luffy needs Zoro to be that person for him. Luffy will always ultimately do what he wants, but he values Zoro's opinion and input *extremely* highly (see Water 7), so in any realm where Luffy is making an important decision, you can bet that Zoro's opinion on that decision has been taken into account. I've heard "Dark King" or "Shadow King" or similar terms used to describe someone who "controls" a political leader from behind the scenes. We can see this in history in a few places where the proper ruler is too young/unfit/or simply weak-willed and so will be "controlled" or coerced into the decisions an outside party wants. For a One Piece example: Our favorite shadowy chair-sitter Im is absolutely a Shadow King. They rule unseen from the shadows over who we, on the face of things, believe to be the real rulers of the world, the 5 Elders. "Dark King" was likely given to Rayleigh because, in the face of the goofy, eccentric, bananas-ass personality of Roger, people looked at his calm, collected first mate and assumed HE must be running the show, just allowing Roger to maintain the *appearance* of the true Captain and true Pirate King, all the while Rayleigh pulling the strings. This mirrors in Luffy and Zoro as well. People often assume Zoro is the Captain because of his calm demeanor and intimidating presence. What people don't realize when they assume Rayleigh or Zoro are the ones in charge is that neither Rayleigh nor Zoro had/have any desire to *actually* be in control of their true Captains. Regardless of their inherent ability to lead, regardless of having all the qualities of kings, they both comfortably and happily choose second in command, both knowing that when their Captain is MOST in need, he will turn to them before all others. Where Luffy and Roger were *destined* to be kings, Rayleigh and Zoro have the one quality neither Luffy nor Roger had: the willingness to yield power completely and bend the knee to someone else, understanding to only step into power when their Captains need it. In the rare circumstances where the King must step down from the light, the Dark King will *always* step forward from the shadows.
I completely an utterly agree. You broke it down perfectly. In my eyes they've been equal in strength but Rayliegh has no desire to lead even though he is more than capable. He is happy being the second mate of the crew that steps up when needed.

He was surely strong enough to have his own Crew and become the Pirate King, just like Zoro. But I assume it has something to do with his dream why he didn't chase this title himself. He doesn't need the title to fulfill his dream, he probably fulfilled his dream while being Roger's mate. @8:48 I completely forgot about Rayleigh inviting Luffy to train for 2 years, but put in the context of the 20-year prophecy Roger learned about in Fishman Island, it's as if Rayleigh knew Luffy was 2 years too early to go into the New World and acheive what Roger couldn't, so he made sure he would be ready and on time. Maybe the last Road Poneglyph or the gates to Laughtale is through Davy Jones locker which requires a guide to ferry the crew through this underworld. Enter Raleigh.
I love how you mentioned in another video how Crocus was placed at the beginning of the grand line, Rayleigh was placed at the beginning of the new world, and shanks giving luffy the drive to become a pirate in the first place. They are like checkpoints testing luffy to see if he is able to fill rogers shoes and if he is, to keep him on his way.
Rayleigh was the first mate and Vice-Captain of the Roger Pirates. He started the journey with Gol D. Roger and ended the journey with Gol D. Roger. Perhaps Rayleigh’s called Dark King because he was the shadow of the king, metaphorically of course
I’ve been looking for some one piece content like this!! Thanks Ohara keep up the good work man!!!
To top it of he has the friggin best name of this series : SILVERS RAYLEIGH
Hear me out: Maybe he's like Charon or Karon (The Ferryman) in the sense that after Roger was done, he cleaned up (in a sense) and took them across the river styx. (Which might be why he keeps ship wrecking, cuz he isn't supposed to meet any other destinations other than Hades.)
Maybe the last Road Poneglyph or the gates to Laughtale is through Davy Jones locker which requires a guide to ferry the crew through this underworld. Enter Raleigh.

@@HungTruongHudson Raleigh, North Carolina USA 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@HungTruongHudson oh come on bro that’s too cool, I wanna see that now 😔
@@bockskarr6626 sorry about that haha. spellcheck got me.
I love how you mentioned in another video how Crocus was placed at the beginning of the grand line, Rayleigh was placed at the beginning of the new world, and shanks giving luffy the drive to become a pirate in the first place. They are like checkpoints testing luffy to see if he is able to fill rogers shoes and if he is, to keep him on his way.
all the dislikes are from rayleigh enemies who lost to him
Rayleigh introduction was so good 😂
Rayleigh is still a beast even in his old years
god damn that was an especially nice analysis, Idk why but still great job keep it up
Rayleigh was the first mate and Vice-Captain of the Roger Pirates. He started the journey with Gol D. Roger and ended the journey with Gol D. Roger.
His days of piracy may be in the past, but he trusts Luffy and his crew to carry the true vision of what a Pirate should be without the malice that is amongst the current times in One Piece.
Hope he stays alive long enough to see the Straw Pirates achive the "impossible." I can't wait. ☺
Yes I hope he manages to see a new king before he dies

Weiter so!!
Sometimes they say Rayleigh is not strong as other yonkos... Because roger wants to fight powerful yonkos so Rayleigh didn't got a chance... 😅
Too bad for rayleigh he couldn't go all out cuz he already had monsters like gaban and roger in their crew
Literally my favorite character in One Piece from the minute I seen him. I knew right off the bat this dude was godlike powerful
Rayleigh can probably defeat a yonko if he wanted to.
in his prime, yes, right now i guess no
In his prime yes
Not anymore.
Bonney should use her age fruit and then mayb...also yall talking about prime when wb kicked as* when he was near death
@@blistex4234 prime isn’t a thing in one piece, oda said “what if you don’t lose your strength as you get older” that’s why you see all these 60+ year old men being super strong
Brooo you know the character is legend when his bounty is acutal mystery
Rayleigh is the Dark King just like Sasuke is the Shadow Hokage.
Not Hokage*
Shadow fire shadow
