  • Have you ever flown down the Kona Coast? We take you on a personal tour with us from Kailua Pier to Keauhou Bay and give you some history, personal stories, information and views to die for on this video tour!
    Eric used his best drone work to produce this video. Julie drove down Alii Drive while Eric flew his drone keeping it in line of sight all the way down the coast. We are pretty sure no one else has done a video like this one on Hawaii Island before!

    Nicely done, and appreciate the different viewpoint. Also a couple of good tips for dinner and/or drinks.

    Wonderful video, thanks for the effort. We lived near Honl's in the 60's and 70's, sadly on leased land which we couldn't keep, but we spent many summers roaming the area and the turquoise waters as kids. Seeing it all from the air in this drone footage is a kick.
    Most of us (including me) could improve our Hawaiian pronunciation. If I could offer a few tips: The double vowels like I's, E's, and O's in the language (as in Hulihe'e) are always pronounced separately, with a glottal stop, never like the vowel pairs in the English "keep" or "coop". Hawaiian vowels are pronounced much like those in written Spanish, so Hulihe'e sounds more like Hooleehay-ay. The glottal stop also comes between the two I's in Ali'i (which has no "H" sound in it Julie). It should sound like "Alee-ee", not "Aleehee." The stop is voiced in the same way English speakers like us place it between the vowels in "uh-oh". In some instances, the stop is dropped in common usage. As an example most of us pronounce Napo'opo'o as Napopo and get away with it, but persons pronouncing it with an English "oo" sound as in roof or sloop are practicing linguistic cruelty (you guys have not committed this grievous crime). Lastly, the first syllable in "kanaloa" rhymes with "con" not "can".
    I've learned to rely on my ear and not what I may hear in my mind's ear when reading written Hawaiian-which can be confusing to the uninitiated English reader.

    The park near Casa de Emdeko is Puapua'a and it's a 12 acre piece of land just purchased in 2021 with 2%Land Fund money. I wrote the resolution for acqusition in 2006 when Virginia Isbell was a Council member.

    Really enjoy your videos. Have to make one correction when you were talking about the filled-in swimming pool. Hurricane Iniki hit the islands on 9/11/1992. This date sticks in my mind because we had planned for a family trip to the islands for just 2 weeks after that. We had to scramble to change our plans because basically Kauai was destroyed. That tragedy, along with a bad US economy (round trip plane fares from the Midwest were under $500), caused all the hotels on the other islands to waive all of their 30-day in advance limits for their cheapest rates.

    Lovely video to see Kona from the other side! Thanks for that!! We are still looking for a hotel in Kona with a real beach. We have been going to the Waikoloa Marriot niw for 8 times because we love the large beach that is so easy to access from the hotel but I would love to stay in Kona once. But we like to have a large beach very nearby ( I am mobility scooter bounded).

    Hi. So, a couple of things. The footage is wonderful, thanks. Please learn the correct Hawaiian pronunciation of Hawaiian names. The Kona coast has a rich, rich Hawaiian heritage with many complexes of aliʻi here, and significant events in Hawaiian history lending names to places. If you can't spend the time to get them right, you lose your authority to talk about them in a meaningful way. Also, this is not a town made entirely of condos and the things around condos, like golf courses and pools. You may find some fascinating things to celebrate if you take your focus off of those recent arrivals. There are several community kupuna who could help you fill in the gaps. Also: poke, the dish of raw fish, is pronounced "poh kay". There is heritage there, too. A story to discover. One interesting possibility is that you could have a community longtimer speak a more historical narrative over this same footage. It is possible that amazing stories will emerge. Aloha.

    • @365HawaiiRealEstateInfo
      @365HawaiiRealEstateInfo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Sarah for your thoughts here. Would LOVE to have a Kupuna voice over the drone video. Do you have any suggestions for someone who is familiar with the entire coastline?

    • @mauijaystar
      @mauijaystar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@365HawaiiRealEstateInfo you may want to reach out to the Kanuha family, who still have a strong presence along the coast. You may wish to contact NPS and have them recommend area kupuna, as they work with Hawaiian community elders on parks interpretation. I would also check with the folks at Amy Greenwell. Once the Hawaiian cultural programs are ready to roll down at Kahuluʻu you may find valuable contacts there.
