I spent 2 weeks in Kona in 2002. The best place I have ever been as a tourist. Just beautiful. If I could afford it I would live there. Just a fantastic place. I had hoped to come back and snorkel more but i'm now 63 and the prospects of that happening are fading. If you have the means and desire, it is a great place to be.
We honeymooned there 30 years ago and remember the church and the palace when they were standout structures out in the open. Town is unbelievably built up since then and one could almost miss those historic places. I also walked on the same retaining wall. It’s a beautiful place. Thank you for the video!
Great video. Thanks for not adding some cheesy music. That ruins most of the walking tour videos. I just watched your video fullscreen and pretended I was back in Kona, listening to the actual sounds as I walked along. Next best thing to being there.
I've always wanted to go to Hawaii, and this video has just convinced me even more! Kona looks like such a beautiful and vibrant town with so much to offer. The ocean and beach views are breathtaking, and I love the small-town feel. Can't wait to visit one day! 🌴🌊☀️
Stop saying "one day." Get online and price it out. It can be cheaper than you think, and you might find that "one day" becomes September of 2024. I always said "one day." For years, I thought I'd go, "one day." 32 years ago, I got married. I went to a travel agent, got some brochures, and booked the trip. A week later I had tickets. I thought, why did I wait so long? Going there for my honeymoon was awesome, but my "one day" mentality up until that point meant I was never gonna take action to make it happen. If I hadn't had the honeymoon planning as a catalyst, I'd probably still be saying "one day." I've been back 3 more times after that trip. I love Hawaii.
I was there for two weeks this past November and was considering transferring there but the way the tsunami evacuation signs were everywhere made me reconsider.
wow. what a video the beauty of nature there is really infinite. to me Hawaii is 12 hours time difference. but often I watch it on cams and jeju do too. its fun see ppl in bermuda in Hawaiian shirt it warms up and makes forget winter. thank you for sharing your trip ... I really enjoyed the stroll. ⛰ HAND.
I always come across Oahu content and just found out all about Kona. I love this, so grateful that you shared this! thought I might also share a good travel carry-on bag you can consider on your future travels. It's the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane. It's very functional and a good carry-on on travels ❤🥰
We were just there for a friends wedding and already miss the sites, weather, and food especially lol. Just uploaded a video of what we did also. Can't wait to go back and have some more memories and fun. Mahalo.
Thanks for this walk! Left Kona for the Army in 1994, and heading back there to visit at the end of this month. It already looks way different downtown along Ali'i Drive than I remember, and the area around Kealakehe School has a lot more neighborhoods. EDIT: Kona Inn looks the same kinda, except they had a video game arcade in the 80s and a few New Age 'crystal power' type shops in there when I was a kid. The upper levels were hotel rooms back then, but IDK about now.
Wow this is so cool! I love that my little video somehow brought us together and brought you back to your time in Kona in the 90s! I hope you enjoy your time back in Kona! I wish I could travel out there again soon! HAVE AN AMAZING TIME!
Last time I was there before the pandemic the cost of food even Costco's was 3x the price & about the same as Honolulu & should be cheaper on Bid Island. SiriusXM Radio not get signal there as my rental had it & was surprised. But people were nice & friendly there & love the home town feel. It gets very humid there & I think worse than Florida at times. -Cheers!

Indeed. You can do all the touristy stuff or just chill.

It definitely wasn't too cheap, but myself coming from San Francisco I've come to expect expensive prices everywhere! The people are SO NICE!
Is that Goggle Earth you used at the beginning?
Hi Simba - yes, I use Google Eart and Maps at the beginning over every walk to show you the layout of the areas
Can you say what day you recorded this? We may have been there at the same time. 😂
The cars are way too loud
I agree. I don't like cars.
I lve in Kalapana and own multiple homes. Impossible to do in Kona.
❤
Great time of the day for Old Kona Town! I miss it(the doves too). The Finnish Arctic just don't do it!

"technically" Kona is like half the island so the proper name period is Kailua-Kona Yes, there is also a Kailua in Oahu, hense Kailua-Kona....
