PSA::::: Not all these manufacturers agree on how to rate sensitivity. While some are measured at 1-watt/1-meter as explained in this video, others (focal, JBL, Infinity, etc...) are rated at 2.83-volts/1-meter. These two ratings WOULD be equivalent if the speakers being compared had a nominal impendence of 8 ohms. But since they are not, it's important to understand the difference. Due to Ohm's law, a low impedance 4 ohm speaker will be pulling twice as much power (2-watts) during a 2.83v test than it would during a 1watt/1meter test. This causes the 2.83v rating to be +3db louder than a 1w/1m test. If you drop the impendence even more the, as is the case with the 3ohm JBL speakers, it will pull even more power at that voltage and sneak in even more decibels. So as an easy rule, when comparing 4 ohm speakers of various manufacturers, simply take away 3db of sensitivity from any rated at 2.83v and you will have a much better apples-to-apples comparison. 2ohm 2.83v speakers need 6 db taken away to compare.

There’s no correlation between bass range spl and speaker sensitivity. If you hear a difference, it’s probably because you set the tweeter to +3 db. Sensitivity is a measurement like you explained. Individual speakers are manufactured differently. That’s what causes a difference in bass response.

What I saw in this video the Memphis was the loudest sounding. And that would be one reason someone would want to get it over having their stock speakers.
I had the OG kicker speakers back in the late 2000's in my 1993 honda del sol and I loved them. punchy, tight, and bright. They were insane. coupled with a kicker 12" sub in a closed box I was in heaven. After that I tried many other brands over the years and ended up using polk, but polk have like no mid bass at higher volumes for some reason. they distort. so you need a solid subwoofer that can play into the mid bass range to overcome that.... recently I saw the new sony ES line of hi-fi speakers and sub (10") coming out and if they are as good as they seem, I am thinking about a full overhaul with all sony gear. (love their headphones, mdr-1am2 and mdr-z7m2 are some crazy sick headphones)

I've seen soooo many people make statements about certain things that do and don't matter that are completely misleading and misunderstood as far as amps are concerned... It'd be nice to just point them to a video for a "Breaker's Breakdown" that gets things like Sensitivity, S/N Ratio, and Dampening Factor correct.... I'd much rather point them to a video of yours than trying to explain it in the comments to some numbskull who's been repeating the same wrong info for whoknowshowlong... 😅
Great idea! Using old car speakers to create a unique and functional piece of furniture like a bookshelf is definitely a creative way to repurpose items that would otherwise be thrown away. The fact that these speakers can produce such deep bass notes at only 10 watts each makes them even more impressive. Keep up the great work! 👍

Thank you… All 6.5” challenge. alpine 2 way coaxial S series vs fosgate coaxial 2 way vs the JBL coaxial you just had on here. They are all at $100 price point. I’ve always went with Fosgate bcs it does so well with heavy metal music as apposed to “rock” which is good for tuning your system if you listen to instruments made music. My alpine s series do well with techno and rock but heavy metal sounds distorted earlier than rock. Techno plays loudest with least distortion. Those JBL came in how I like to hear them so that’s why I want to see this showdown!!!!
Speaker sensitivity rating has no correlation at all to frequency response. Subwoofers have sensitivity ratings, some of them quite high. Its quite obvious when the second speaker listed, with a higher sensitivity, has almost and octave lower frequency response. The sensitivity rating tells you the spl at one meter with one watt, and you can ascertain that for every 3 db increase, the power must be doubled.
I've been wanting videos like this forever, so bad that I was about to do it myself, thanks for this. Do some higher end stuff? I can submit some samples of some DLS and morel
Nice testing, probably as good as can be done given that in-car performance will vary from car to car and from sound room. I'll nitpick a bit and say the HU has an amplifier built-in, it's just less power than the outboard amp used. It might be nice to know the difference in RMS power at the same distortion level (CEA rating) between the two. I'd guess about 18 W RMS for the Alpine HU compares to the 65 (?) of the out board amp. The relatively small differences in SPL (peak?) would seem to indicate that the low power amplifier was distorting before the speakers in those test cases. It might also be nice to know the range of measured SPL for some repeated test cases, changing nothing. The sampling rate of the meter might be too slow to catch the same peak each time.
I'm tripping out that's exactly how I'm doing my girlfriends truck this week!!!? Great question. Ok here’s how I understand it. Efficiency is a function of mass. So in order to produce bass the key indicators in speaker are Magnet size ,stiffness of the cone and a longer or larger voice coil for longer excursion We’ll in order to gain efficiency you can reduce the magnet size, lighten the cone and shorten the voice coil to reduce the weight but that will all effect the bass response. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question!
Good day, very nice content. Can I ask what can you recommend for my car I just want to change the factory speaker on the door. But I will keep the old head unit. Without using amplifier and sub

Impedance is a big deciding factor isn't it. What impedance are most stock stereos, 2 ohms? So you should decide upfront if you are replacing your deck or not and that decides what impedance speakers you should get and that limits your choices right
Most stock radios are 4 ohm unless it’s a badged upgraded factory system. Then it can be 2 ohm. So yes decided what your end goal is before buying speakers. If you are strictly wanting to replace speakers and don’t plan on changing the radio or adding an amp then first determine what ohms you factory speakers are.
@@BreakersStereo ahh thanks. What happens if you upgrade your deck and your interior speakers are 2 ohm. If they are 2 ohm, that would usually mean there's a separate stock amp that you can leave in place, unless you want to upgrade speakers as well? Would the extra power usually make 2 ohm low quality stock speakers sound worse? And in that case you wouldn't want to upgrade half the speakers and mix up impedance hey, that would just be off balance then right? Thanks for the videos and channel, rekindling my interest in car audio. A comparison of speakers was very helpful.
@@mcjonner Your impedance comes from the last thing that connects to the speakers in the series... So if there is a stock amp, upgrading the HU wouldn't affect the impedance any for just changing that. Also, you wouldn't be "adding any power" to the system's output, as that's still a matter of what's coming out of the amp to the speakers. HU to amp is indifferent, unless we're talking about just the quality of the sound going into the amp from the HU, where a higher amperage HU would create clearer sound via RCAs, not through "high level" inputs though, so it'd depend on how it was wired if it made any difference or not. But if you're not wanting to change the HU/deck, then it's a matter of the last thing that interacts with the sound before the speakers that you'd want to concern yourself with, usually an amp. Just note that typically most systems will come together for "rated" combinations, meaning that if you upgrade your amp, chances are it won't play well with your stock speakers, as they'd be rated for the stock amp's power, not the upgraded one's. There's some "wiggle room" in that statement though.
I have a touring motorcycle. It has 2 5.25 in front and rear. The radio puts out 25w per channel. I do get tweeter fatigue in the rear. What would you recommend? I would like a no tweeter in rear. Right now I have polk 5.25 on all 4.

As he mentioned sensitivity has quite a bit to do with it as well... not to forget to mention the frequency they are crossed over at.... more to it... but a good video as far as covering what to get for your money....
Alpines always sound more cleaner an are the best 😎
Great list of affordable speakers that deliver great sound! Co-ax cables are a smart choice for connecting multiple devices. Highly recommend checking out these options for your next speaker purchase. 😊🔉
That tweeter on the JBL sounded very crisp... But the Alpine had a fuller sound. I can't decide between the two.
Fuller sound is always more pleasurable.
A Great review, done right! Someone please tell other reviewers that you can't hold a speaker in your hand and test sound....
Yooo Josh this was great. Do the next level of speaker bro💯💯💯
Thanks man. I’m working on the script right now! Any speakers you’d like to see at the $200 level?

If you're taking suggestions, I'd like to see a 6x9 comparison:
Alpine R-S69.2 ($219) (must be the .2 version!)
Focal RCX-690 ($180)
Infinity KAPPA-93iX ($176)
JBL GTO939 ($135)
Rockford Fosgate P1694 ($120)
Could also be seen as a "justification for the price"-kind of comparison as well.

There’s no correlation between bass range spl and speaker sensitivity. If you hear a difference, it’s probably because you set the tweeter to +3 db. Sensitivity is a measurement like you explained. Individual speakers are manufactured differently. That’s what causes a difference in bass response.
Thank you for your video and the comments are very helpful
Am Using alpine 660e HU
Alpine PWE s 800 Active subwoofer
S 65 c and co axial
After seeing the suggestions in comments Now going to Adding S 32 F
Loved your video from India
The challenge for good quality sound will come down to the Tweeter reproduction and the overall balance in off axis responce placed low on doors.
Off axis response? Can you elaborate on that? You mean mid speakers?
i got some tx65s from skar for $60 and they’re pretty damn good
I got those kickers in my ute powered by a 20 year old Sony xplod amp. Good speakers imo.
I paid 20$ on mines and they are really great
Pioneer 280w
I’ve just recently started to upgrade the factory speakers with the pioneer TSA 1680 which has a Continuous Power Handling (RMS)
80 Watts
Maximum Peak Power Handling
350 Watts and being someone with no experience with Car/ truck sound systems other than turning on the radio I’m learning as I go. The best sounding speakers out of the 5 speakers in this video to me was the MEMPHIS PRX 602. I was wondering if anyone has had the pioneer speakers I’ve got now, Pioneer TSA 1680 and how they feel about changing to the MEMPHIS PRX 602’s. Thanks and great video, very easy to follow
Excellent video thanks to it I decided between the Kicker speakers and the memphis speakers and for obvious reasons I bought memphis
THIs is how comparizing should be.. thx, i will follow this channel
I find it mind blowing anyone would pick any Memphis driver in an A/B comparison over the other speakers in this lineup.
Why?
What I saw in this video the Memphis was the loudest sounding. And that would be one reason someone would want to get it over having their stock speakers.
kicker sounds the best to me
Those are great!
That’s because this list doesn’t have PRV, Rockford Punch series, American Bass, or DB Drive!
Can we get a video like this about amplifiers? I've seen soooo many people make statements about certain things that do and don't matter that are completely misleading and misunderstood as far as amps are concerned... It'd be nice to just point them to a video for a "Breaker's Breakdown" that gets things like Sensitivity, S/N Ratio, and Dampening Factor correct.... I'd much rather point them to a video of yours than trying to explain it in the comments to some numbskull who's been repeating the same wrong info for whoknowshowlong... 😅
Yeah man we can do that! all those things you mentioned are important on how an amp will perform. Thanks for the comment and suggestion!
Great idea! Using old car speakers to create a unique and functional piece of furniture like a bookshelf is definitely a creative way to repurpose items that would otherwise be thrown away. The fact that these speakers can produce such deep bass notes at only 10 watts each makes them even more impressive. Keep up the great work! 👍
Man i love the way you explain things, no bs, u a true g
Thanks my dude! I appreciate that!
You speak like William Shatner as Captain Kirk. Good video!
Which of these speakers do you think is the best? I listen to a lot of rap/hiphop so I have to have bass but I also want to be able to hear the artist clearly.
If you have a sub present for with the Memphis. If you don’t have an amp running the interior speakers than powerbass. If you do have a amp running your interior speakers:Alpine
Thanks for the comment we appreciate your point of view. It really helps us and others hear what people have to say. Thanks again!!
Speaker sensitivity rating has no correlation at all to frequency response. Subwoofers have sensitivity ratings, some of them quite high. Its quite obvious when the second speaker listed, with a higher sensitivity, has almost and octave lower frequency response. The sensitivity rating tells you the spl at one meter with one watt, and you can ascertain that for every 3 db increase, the power must be doubled.
was looking for someone to comment this, car dudes really don't understand specs and how metrics are taken for speaker specifications
AMAZING VIDEO!!! Thank you!! this provided me alot of value!
We appreciate it!! Takes a lot to put these comparison videos together. Glad it provided you value.
I've been wanting videos like this forever, so bad that I was about to do it myself, thanks for this.
Do some higher end stuff? I can submit some samples of some DLS and morel
You better throw Skar and Audio Legion in that line up! Recoil makes a budget gem too!
Skar really doesnt make any coaxials that sound good. The TX line of coaxials offer plenty of bass but midrange isnt there
Alpine and JBL sounds best for me :)
The sampling rate of the meter might be too slow to catch the same peak each time.
the best testing video on yt right now
Yeah. Thanks man!
Nice video man perfect.
I think the Alpine are perfect
Thanks 🙏🏻 thanks 🙏🏻

I got a pair if the power bass 3XL's silk dome tweeters they sound good clean crisp defend themselves against infinity tweeters are the best tweeters
Please explain the physics behind efficiency and a loss of low frequency response?

I like to see you do some of the higher end ones for a passenger card that's not necessarily constrained by price. Like are there Bose speakers out there? Bose may not be the best but that gives you an idea.
Bose is at the top tier of crap speakers. 😆

Thats a great video!! I would love to see one with low cost 6.5 components in same price range
There's not too many components speakers at $100. And I don't think they would be that good if there is. But I wanna see a components video for sure
good review, there is just one missing, focal auditor 13cm coaxials. 90 db 50 w rms.5" .
... thanks for the video.
Yes that would have been a good addition..one problem I can only juggle 5 speakers at a time lol!
Can You Do A Review on what Are some really Loud Components Mids And High Like The One You can Hear The Music From A Block Away Full system with 4 channel Amp ? Much Appreciated If You do that video
Alpine R and X series. Subs- Alpine, or budget friendly Skar. My neighbor has 2 evl 12's and they shake our entire complex.
I’ll say this then look them up on TH-cam for yourself!
American Bass NEO 6.5 they cost around $60 a pair and will seriously blow away any competitor away in clarity and distance! 96db loudspeakers that still pack decent bass! Nothing can touch them at this price point! NOTHING
These videos are so well done. Thank you
I have the alpines i love them sound great
Impedance is a big deciding factor isn't it.
I got kicker cs amp 75 watts and they sound great 4 in the door 100 watt nominal 300 peak
Great clear speaking video!!
I have a touring motorcycle. It has 2 5.25 in front and rear. The radio puts out 25w per channel. I do get tweeter fatigue in the rear. What would you recommend? I would like a no tweeter in rear. Right now I have polk 5.25 on all 4.

Wondering if the Aplines are going to fit my 2012 Nissan Altima. I'm about to order them.
What are the best 3.5" dash speakers to replace the factory ones???
I've rather sensitive ears that preferr soft smooth sound with good bass.
Are the alpines suitable for my kind of weak ears? They don't cost that much where i live (Finland).
Im inclinded to replace my current speakers in my 1999 v70 since the prev owner shoved some shitters in it that just ruin my ears due to how poorly balanced the audio is even if i try to make it proper through the stereo unit.
My previous S70 which ran stock speakers had miles better and filling sound than this one.
Try JBL GTO speakers they're very smooth and and natural!...also ear friendly!...not rhe clubs and all that stuff but GTO series speakers all of their subs from budget to competition are extremely musical!...give em a try and thank me later!...oh and they're super sensitive so they'll work with just about all head units as well amplifiers

I recently installed x4 kicker CSC65 (the same but a quarter inch smaller than the CSC67) and sound-deadened my car and I was shocked at the high end response. To describe them is 'bright' is disingenuous, they're actually shrill or harsh and very fatiguing if you listen to music that uses higher tones (rock etc). They sound great when you're dwelling in the low end but that top end is atrocious. This is coming from someone who enjoys high quality bright headphones. I'm hoping some EQ can help
Does your head unit not have an 8 stage or 13 stage eq so you can adjust?
I personally like Rockville speakers and sub and amp and amp install kits
