Pro Tip: When assigned a visual approach to a runway where there are helpful fixes for vectoring on an RNAV approach, I usually check in with something along the following lines “Approach, Cirrus 742WT, level 6000, RNAV loaded for the visual runway 16.” At my home airport KADS, the D10 TRACON controllers know exactly what this means. Sometimes they still vector with a heading, but often they will assign a fix and ask to report airport in sight.

Enjoy your videos. I’m an old VFR Archer pilot, but I enjoy good IFR content. You’re one of the only Cirrus pilots who wears your seatbelt snugged down tight across the hips. I’m tall, so there’s never a lot of headroom, and even a small jolt of turbulence has my head hitting the ceiling, so I always have the lap belt tight.

Hey Scott, love all the videos! I fly out of PTK as well. Always on the lookout for 524CC when I’m out there!

I flew into Big Sandy a couple years ago coming back from Kitty Hawk. I had the same problem talking to Huntington app. so you weren't alone. In fact, they descended me down to 3k and all comms with them were lost. They had already called the airport when we were taxiing and the nice gentleman at the fbo was kind enough to let them know we landed safely. Not much out there besides the high security penitentiary. Don't pick up any hitchhikers! 🙂

22T driver here. My rule of thumb is climbs of less than 2k I do a lean of peak cruise climb. 2k and greater climb I go full power rich of peak.

Same - I just trade airspeed for the climb.

8:22 The video quality here looks amazing, almost artificial, on my TV 👍 iPhone 16? “Captain small bladder” made me lol

It’s actually just a 14 pro, but I am using 4k. I was thinking the same thing, it’s crazy good quality. It helped that it was really even lighting too, nothing too bright or dark.

So you made that flight entirely during daylight hours. Not bad!! So 6 hours there abouts?

Wheels up to down, about 4:50… but you include the stop, more like 6.
